A lot of us understand that Anet is a company and needs money to pay bills and salaries, etc – and players want WvW fixed – so why not let players put their money where their mouth is? There are plenty of threads in this forum with many good ideas to fix problems or redesign current mechanics, which shows that the community wants things to get better. We want to see WvW succeed. Why not offer the people something that they want, and see who is willing to pay for it?
I’d readily throw down $20 if it guaranteed a better WvW experience.
Anyone else?
One thing you could do to help with legitimacy concerns is to run the contest through a larger guild or gaming group that is well known and reputable.
The main problem I see is the possibility of 2000 entrants and the 2000 ticket threshold. I have seen other larger guild do these kinds of things, but they had 6-8 officers/leaders handling mails and ticket purchases.
- I have 10 character slots, at one point half of my characters were necros – one of every race. I deleted several of them to make way for different classes. Occasionally I get tempted to buy a few more character slots and make more necros.
- If anyone ever asks, I say that RPing is silly and weird. Yet all my characters have meaningful / proper names – my Asuras have single word names, my Charr charactrs names all reflect their common warband. Most of my characters have backstories about them.
- I dislike pvp but have will usually engage in a 1 v1 wvw roam fight if the opportunity arises.
- My first GW game was Factions, then Nightfall so I have little sympathy for anyone who likes Ascalonians.
- I feel that people who play mostly human or norn characters are boring.
- I often say that I’m poor even though I have a Juggernaut, two full sets of ascended armor and several ascended backpieces.
- One night I was mapping wvw on my level 60 necro and was attacked by a level 80 condi engi. I won the fight; this was the only time I ever danced on someone’s body.
You guys in ArenaNET thought that underdogs would team up vs strongest enemy server which was another ground breaking mistake – even in real life people stand united with stronger and smash the weaker.
This is what was happening past 2 years in wvw since the launch – strongest server attacks weaker and the other weak server just backdoors the weakest server. (why go poke the beast while you can just go pile points on the weakest server)
My suggestion is to give rewards to encourage players to attack the 1st place server, if they’re winning by a substantial amount. If server A is winning by a large margin, give some sort of buff (magic find, wxp, xp, hp + power, whatever) to server B and C when attacking A. Or, if A (in 1st) and B are heavily dominating C, then the buff is given to B and C for attacking A. If you want this threeway style fighting, then you have to encourage people to work together, otherwise people just take the easy road and dogpile on the lowest server, as previously stated. This would encourage lower servers to work together as Anet wants and keeps things (hopefully) more exciting if one server does have a substantial lead.
A way to solve this might be to implement some sort of “underdog” buff where if your server is trailing the lead server by a certain % (or #) of points you gain extra wxp or karma or something for attacking them. It could encourage the two lower servers into attack the leader instead of each other, which would make things more exciting all around.
Some really good ideas here – as a GW1 player, I think the wvw updates / announcements are a great idea.
Outnumbered is also a good suggestion – many people agree that this has been a big problem for a long time.
I agree that there should be better ways to show your wvw pride and time/commitment that players put in (shameless plug for my ideas here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/WvW-rewards-suggestions/first#post4434086)
A couple suggestions I had, with an emphasis is for making wvw appealing to non-wvw players:
Aesthetic rewards:
Make player’s ranks visible to other people outside of WvW. If a person is Bronze Knight, they can receive an option to toggle a bronze ring around their character portrait (like an NPC veteran) and receive Bronze Knight as a selectable title in the achievements panel. If a person has the rank of Gold Soldier they have the option of a gold ring (like a NPC champion) and get Gold Soldier as a title, etc. If people spend a good amount of time in WvW they should be able to show it off as they progress (without having to kill a million dolyaks first).
Personal rewards:
The rank-up chests need an overhaul. Nobody wants green weapons; I would suggest removing greens as a potential drop and replacing them with siege. Maybe add guild heroes banners, wvw infustions or siege golem minipets to the prize pool? I would also like to see some guaranteed rewards for people who put in time in wvw, something like a random ascended trinket every 100 ranks, or an ascended weapon or armor chest every 250.
WvW specific weapon skins:
No, I’m not talking about the Mistforged Hero weapons. Anet already made those too easy to get so there is little prestige in those now. How about giving us a set of weapons/ skins that are an exotic-level random drop, or purchasable with badges if you’re over rank 500? – something that really says that you consistently put in your time in WvW, and not just during the tournaments.
Visual overhaul:
Not really a rewards topic, but I would love to see WvW get a facelift and look more like EotM. Have the Red BL look like desert, Blue BL look like snow, and Green BL look like jungle; the three corners of EB would reflect this facelift. I’m not suggesting the other events or NPCs, but EotM looks beautiful and really wish WvW looked the same.
Not a bad idea, I can think of a set or two I would buy.

First of all, bamboo robot is an awesome name.
Second, hi and welcome. I’m from Binary Alliance, a small/ medium sized guild on the Crystal Desert server. We’re mainly involved with PvE, but have some members into PvP and WvW as well. We accept all skill levels and are happy to help new or returning members learn the game. Most of our members are in the 20-30 age range with a few older and a few younger than that. We are very social ( website/ forum/ FB group /Teamspeak 3) server and like to get to know our members – this greatly minimizes any kind of drama that larger guilds sometimes have. We have weekly guild meetings, run guild missions, have contests, WvW nights, do all sorts of semi random things. If you are still interested in us, feel free to visit our recruitment post and website:
http://www.binary-alliance.com/about-us
Please don’t be afraid to contact me if you have any questions.
Good luck and have fun!
[edit] we don’t require that you be on our server to be in our guild, and can help defray transfer costs should you want to move.
For me, I’d like to see details up front, then personal info. Especially helpful are things like playstyle (PvP/PvE/WvW) and times online, whether or not the LFGer is willing to transfer/ other guild commitments – basic type of info that can help a recruiter determine if you are a good fit on the basic level. After determining whether a person is a good logistic fit (you don’t want a PvP player in a PvE guild, etc) then its really nice to have an idea of the person that you will be potentially inviting. even if the person is not a good fit (for whatever reason) I’d much rather read about a person than the bare bones (tldr) type of posts.
Hi Cory!
I’m from Binary Alliance and we are all about building community. We don’t take every member that comes along and actually take the time to get to know people before they become full-members in our guild. This means we don’t grow as fast as some guilds but we build stronger bonds with the people within our ranks.
We’re mainly a PvE guild based on Crystal Desert, but we also do a little PvP and WvW on the side. Most of our guild members are 20- 30 years old an have been playing mainly MMOs. We accept members of all play levels and are happy to teach new or returning players.
If you’re interested in learning more about us, feel free to visit our website:
http://www.binary-alliance.com/about-us
and we have a (mostly) standard guild recruitment post here on the forums:

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or any of our officers.
I’ve been getting this disconnect error over the past few days as well. Already tried all the aforementioned fixes. Nothing seems to work.
+1 and a bump (Can we get this, or something like it stickied to the top of the forum?)
Hellos! One of the most important aspects of this game (or any in particular) is that you know what you want to do. I had trouble nailing down which class was my favorite and like you, had a bunch of characters getting worked on before I was able to finally make up my mind.
If you still need a guild, my guild would be happy to have you apply for membership. We are Binary Alliance, a small / medium sized guild on Crystal Desert. You don’t have to be on our server to join and we can help defray costs if you want to eventually transfer over. We are a very social, PvE-based, casual guild with most of our members representing NA eastern time zone. We have a website/forum, TS, FB group, weekly events, guild meeting on Monday night, contests, etc. Our guild prides itself on the community we build and we welcome players of all skill levels.

I’d vote for the Fall of Abaddon regardless of how it is exactly meant (original imprisonment or end of Nightfall campaign). The Thaumanova Reactor already exists, as does an Asura themed fractal so adding more of that to the game seems far less interesting than being able to visit a time/place integral to GW universe lore. A Fall of Abaddon fractal seems like it would be a greater departure from everything else already in the game and it would be nice to go back to Elona / Realm of Torment (whichever the case may be).
A lot of guilds are willing to help new players, but it might be easier to find a guild if you post a little about yourself and what you’re hoping to eventually do in the game. Are you mainly a PvE player, or looking into PvP as well, how about WvW? Are you looking for a larger guild where there’s always people online or a smaller, more close knit guild?
I’m from Binary Alliance, aPvE focused guild that is always happy to help out new players. We also do some WvW but are light on the PvP side of things.
You can read about us here:

We aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but we welcome players of all skill levels. I would impart some general tips of Thiefiness but its one of two classes I don’t currently play. Generally speaking though, learn to dodge. A lot of people consider it to be the most important mechanic in GW2.
Hi there, I’m from Binary Alliance [BA], a small / medium sized PvE guild on CD. We welcome players of all skill levels and are happy to help new players (or returning players) get adjusted to the game. We have a website, forum, FB page, TS server, and weekly meetings and in-game events.

I was in WvW a few days ago, there were two commanders, one well known and qualified, the other not. The known commander told our zerg to charge an enemy zerg, the other commander told people to retreat. Needless to say things didn’t go so well.
I like the previous idea of evolving the commander icon to take into consideration wvw rank as well. It wouldn’t fix all problems, but I think it would help somewhat.
Hi there! I’m from Binary Alliance [BA] on CD and we’re mostly PvE focused guild, with minor interest in WvW and PvP. We’re a small guild so our members and officers are happy to show you around the game; we’re not some massive guild of faceless names. If you notice, this is the third reply in this sub forum I’ve posted tonight, and I take the time to type out every one of my responses. Why? Because it’s more personal. I could sit here and cut and paste a response, but that’s not our style.
If you want to know more about us, and whether we might be the right guild for you, please feel free to contact me in game or here on the forums.

As a long time GW1 player, let me start with a hello and welcome! I ‘m from Binary Alliance [BA] and we are a small guild on CD that may be what you’re looking for. We go through an actual recruitment process to get to know our members (don’t worry, nothing weird). We want our members to feel like members in a community, not names on a guild roster. If you would like more information, feel free to message me in-game or on the forums, or check out our recruitment post or website:
Hi there, I represent Binary Alliance, a guild on CD dedicated to having fun, and we might be the kind of guild you are looking for.

or feel free to give me a shout any time in game.
I assume that it is some sort of deterrent to keep players from camping outside spawn areas for easy kills/ rank farming.
My guild went through the new F&F Dungeon and was able to finish it ok, I even got rewards from the chest to prove it. I went to Hoelbrak and was able to see Braham’s scene there, but I went to Citadel and am unable to see the scene with Rox. One of my guildmates told me to try re-logging in, and I did, but now I don’t see the Rage Against the War Machine (Molten Facility) event as being accomplished (I’d already completed all the other F&F achievements so far).
I will try running through it again tomorrow to see if it gets fixed, but thought I’d post this here to see if anyone has had similar experiences.
Hi there, Binary Alliance is recruiting on CD
I sent you a PM, but feel free to contact me in game if you have any questions.
Wanted to say thank you and welcome to out newest members, and for everyone else – we are recruiting, so if you need a fun little home, feel free to give us a shout.
Hi there! I represent Binary Alliance, a small tight knit guild on CD. We have forums, a TS server and members who know how to be mature (most of the time ; ) We are US based, and have weekly guild meetings & events, and are always into dungeons.
Feel free to contact me here or in game for more info.
I highly doubt we’d see Joko before any kind of massive GW2 expansion. That being said, I don’t think that he’d want anything to do with the dragons, he’s far too human. I could see him becoming an ally of sorts, again.
Fwiw, from the wiki:
For most of recent history, Palawa Joko has maintained control of the entire Crystal Desert. However, after the Elder Undead Dragon, Zhaitan, rose from underneath Orr, the desert became a warzone between the two undead forces. Furthermore, when the Elder Crystal Dragon Kralkatorrik awoke and flew south in 1320 AE, it claimed the northern portions of the desert as its own. Joko has maintained control of the Desolation and a southern portion of Crystal Desert despite the two threats. The presence of Joko, Kralkatorrik and Zhaitan has cut off the land route from Tyria to Elona, except for the members of the Order of Whispers who have somehow bypassed this obstacle.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crystal_Desert
It does make me wonder if Joko could reanimate Zhaitan’s slain minions.
if you do everything, you should stay on track. Kill, explore, harvest, craft, personal story, etc. You can also earn a fair amount of xp by exploring your home city and Lion’s Arch.
I agree that the Largos design is bad, especially in comparison to so much else in the game. The wings look genetically engineered and attached if anything – there is nothing to show that the wings are organically part of the Largos body – they don’t look natural. Alternately, you could also say that the Largos are too humanoid (ground adapted) to be deep sea creatures. As mentioned earlier, an aqueous/amphibian race would probably be awkward on land (like Quaggan) if using legs or possess alternate methods of movement (like Krait). If the Largos society had lived in the deep sea for an extended period of time, their legs would be less developed, atrophied, or possibly vestigial.
Not a fan of the current two Charr backpacks, but I would buy this. Maybe instead of holding a spoon he can have an apple?
Tybalt Forever!

^ this or find a bigger / more active guild.
This game doesn’t need AI henchmen/heroes.
I agree with all the guild managements stuff, it would be great to be able to see membership details. Guild capes would be awesome. With the introduction of the guild missions, it would be great to have a better way to visually identify members. I imagine clipping would be a problem with charr or stowed weapons, but I’m sure the people at Anet are smart enough to figure out how to work past that
The Dredge would actually prove to be a very powerful ally for the Flame Legion. Looking at the defense of the Black Citadel, it is very well protected from an exterior assault. From below however is another story. I think it would be completely plausible for the Dredge to either build tunnels below the Citadel to allow it to be attacked from within, or to create a giant sink hole below it and collapse and destroy a significant portion of the city. While this would benefit the Flame Legion a lot, I have no clue what the Dredge would get out of it, unless they’ve been enslaved.
I agree with most of the people here – I want to love my grenades, but the skill1 spam is annoying as all hell.
Honestly here, I think the problem is that you played an MMO and you were looking for a single player RPG (which are almost always better written). That being said, I agree with the previous poster that GW2 is one of the most solo friendly MMOs around. If you need a group, there are places like gw2lfg.com, or you can join a guild, most of which are happy to help people do things in game.
MANAGEMENT TOOLS:
· Allow leaders to see last members last login
· Allow leaders to know the exact date when a member joined the guild
· Separate member list by rank: Say, you want to see the hierarchical list of users instead of a random mess of online/offline
This type of thing is incredibly important, especially to large guilds. I find it strange that it wasn’t implemented considering that it was in GW1. I understand that it might not be a high priority considering the number of guilds at max capacity, but it should be an easy fix and there really isn’t a good reason to not have it in game.
If the dragons are meant to be primordial forces of nature, then why do we get to kill one? Why should we get to “win?” I know there are still a good number of Dragons alive, but the ending to GW2 just didn’t sit right with me.
I originally posted this on my guild’s website, reposting here for discussion.
http://www.binary-alliance.com/blog/item/on-villainy
On Villainy
I found the storyline campaign of Guild Wars 2 to be a severe letdown. With the lore that was established in the original Guild Wars, I was hoping for something much better. The Charr were amazing villians, mainly because they weren’t villains at all. Human expansions had forced them out of their homelands, and the Charr were fighting to reclaim what was rightfully theirs. If the focus of Guild Wars 1 had remained on the Human / Charr conflict, it would probably be remembered as one of the greatest stories in videogames. How would you play a game when you’re essentially the villain?
That aside, another piece of lore was also set down: Humans were not native to the world of Tyria. So, not only are Humans an alien species but there is potentially some Human homeworld out in the universe. It was a very sci-fi move for a high fantasy type game. It was also another piece of lore that could have laid the foundation for great political / social discussions. While the storyline to Guild Wars 1 was somewhat lackluster, the lore behind it showed great promise and that ArenaNet was willing to give the player something to think about.
Coming back to Guild Wars 2, we are given Dragons. Are they big, evil, mean Dragons that want to take over the world? Not really. They just wake up and destroy most life on the planet for no real reason what so ever. Then they go back to sleep. Wash, rinse, repeat. In the game, we’re not fighting something that wants to destroy us, and for all we know, doesn’t even care about us. Maybe if we could sit down with Zhaitan, have some coffee and let him explain it to us, things would be more interesting. Do the Dragons feel that the civilizations of Tyria are destroying the planet and need to be stopped? Have the current civilizations gone through their turn in the spotlight and need to make way for someone else? Do the Dragons simply think we aren’t groovy enough to take up the mantle of world rule? Hopefully, the Living Story will give us some answers.
Originally, I was going to write on the first installment of the Living Story, but plugging fissures in the ground, repairing sign posts, lighting campfires and mending sprained ankles didn’t really seem all that interesting. To me, the first part of the Living Story was dead on arrival (and yeah, I know it was supposed to start slowly and progress, but still…). Hopefully, the second installment makes things more interesting. While there are a lot of different directions the Flame and Frost could go, an invasion of Destroyers seems fairly certain. Hopefully ArenaNet gives us more than that. Will we get to see some of the ancient underground Asura homelands? Will there be stone Dwarves that will fight beside us? Maybe ArenaNet will do something unexpected like throw some of those Steam Creatures into the mix.
From what I’ve seen in game, there has to be a certain willingness to be corrupted by Jormag – the Sons of Svanir believe him to be a superior totem animal spirit and choose to follow. Maybe rabbits and other small animals are too simple to have the desires to be corrupted.
From the wiki:
“Unlike other Elder Dragons, Jormag doesn’t corrupt to enslave but rather gives promises of power to those it wants to corrupt…”
As there are pig / boar types of animals, I don’t see why we can’t have pork products in the Chef crafting discipline. There are Slabs of Red Meat and Slabs of Poultry Meat, so why not Slabs of Pork Meat?
Examples:
(1) Slab of Pork Meat + (3) Packets of Salt = (1) Slab of Bacon.
(1) Slab of Bacon + (1) Slab of Red Meat + (1) Loaf of Bread + (1) Cheese Wedge = (2) Bacon Cheeseburgers.
(1) Slab of Bacon + (1) Head of Lettuce + (1) Tomato + (1) Loaf of bread = (2) BLT Sandwiches.
I’m sure people could come up with other recipes up to 400 (Bacon Wrapped Steak?). By now you’re wondering why GW2 needs bacon – what would be the point? Someone is probably reading this and thinking to themselves, you need another reason to add bacon? Yes, let’s play Devil’s Advocate for a second – what effect would bacon based consumables bestow?
Agony Resistance.
Seems kind a obvious when you think about it. What other food product could be added that would be the opposite of Agony?
“Steelbane was always a bad leader. We made up for it. Like bacon makes up for broccoli. Now he’s got no bacon. I’d be mad too.”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dinky
Bacon is already mentioned in passing so (as a Charr) we really should have access to it.
Please let us have our bacon.
Thank you.
I think crossbows would be unnecessary – pistols and shortbows already seem to cover that type of range/ style of play.
Whips sound like a lot of fun for mesmers and necros (gotta keep your minions in line) as well as thieves and rangers.
Polearms for warriors, guardians and eles (maybe).
Knuckle/claw/barehand-type weapons would also sound good for thieves and rangers.
Baton-type or a quick blunt force weapon usable by engineers and maybe thieves.
This critter in Queensdale has been bugging me for quite some time. It doesn’t move and can’t be clicked on; if you press ctrl to highlight names, nothing appears. Location is in 4th pic.
My Asura has started drawing his own conclusions...
There are different types of intelligence and thinking – some of these already stated:
Asura: Very much like a modern 21st century country that is dependent on electricity / telecommunications to survive. The Asura are very smart, but their culture is based on using magic power to supplement their work. Could the Asura society survive without magic or have they become so dependent on it that they would intellectually collapse without it? How intelligent are you if you are helpless in a blackout?
Charr: Reminds me of the Renaissance / Industrial Revolution. Charr society is the opposite of the Asura – devoid of magic (or electricity) and dependent on raw physical technology. If they could use magic to supplement their machines, could they invent bigger and better things than the Asura? How much is the Charr society holding itself back refusing to use the magic that is a part of their world?
Sylvari: First thing I think about is the blue people in Avatar. The fact that they have a hive-mind intellectual database means they could potentially be the smartest, but at the same time, they have a lot of eggs in one basket. The real weak point is complete lack of industry that leaves them (and their intellectual database) defenseless. Of course, this is under the assumption that the Sylvari would want to be the “smartest” and assuming that intelligence means building things like Rata Sum or The Citadel.
Humans: In the GW world, humans aren’t all that intelligent. A big thing to think about is, what is the Human homeworld like? (according to lore, humans were brought to Tyria by the Gods) We can also gather that because of the reliance on the Gods, Humans really weren’t pushing themselves to be all they could. And considering the splintered nature of Humans over the centuries, it’s not hard to see why they haven’t made much progress.
Norn: The problem here is that the Norn don’t exactly value intelligence, instead relying on wisdom as a judge of mental prowess. You could say that the Norn spiritual nature holds them back, but they don’t want to exactly push forward. While the Charr and Asura want to figure out the world and control it, the Norn (and Sylvari) would rather live in harmony with it. The Norn don’t have intellectual technology like some other species, but they don’t need it to survive.
Skritt: Potentially the smartest species in the game, if they could gain the numbers to adequately process the information. Most of the ‘enemy’ Skritt encountered in the game are in small groups and rely on stealing since they can’t create things on their own. In the large ‘friendly’ Skritt cities, they are seen experimenting with technology from other societies. As players we don’t really know how much of the Skritt we have seen – is what we’ve seen the entirety of their species, or are there more somewhere out there?

Yeah, sorry for the wall of text.
It seems to me that the fix is worse than the problem. I understand I wasn’t able to complete the event, thus I don’t get a chest and life moves on. This business about getting people late rewards seems to have opened up a larger can of worms with some people getting chests while others not, and a few people getting extra chests after they had completed the event. I thought that the one-time events were bad enough, but this fix seems to be doing nothing but opening old wounds. (I know that sounds dramatic, but you hopefully get my point).
