Wow that sounds like Diablo 3. Run same stuff over and over on harder and harder difficulty to get better loot so you can do next level.
…and what’s wrong about that, Diablo is a great success after all. Once the grind set in, the playerbase expanded like mad!
Right.
Oh, I’ve mentioned it before but I’m saying it again: I deleted my credit card information from the game. Telling them that you don’t spend anymore doesn’t change a thing. Show them that you mean it!
Nothing wrong with Diablo, I enjoyed it a lot. But not enough to play same story over and over again. It keeps success because you can buy/sell gear. Just hope this isn’t first step towards real money trade post in GW2…

Technically in Diablo III, since they added the Monster Power thing, you’d usually run the lowest monster power possible (0 or 1 depending on which act you plan to farm) to get better gear because it’s more effective.
Ok no idea, I got to Inferno act 2 and then got bored. Didn’t really do any research into most effective way to farm.
Can we have an official answhere?I think that at this points guys, the game don’t come back to their phylosophy. Why you are here only to delete post like mine before and don’t give us a real answhere?

Full breakdown in new mechanics
Wow that sounds like Diablo 3. Run same stuff over and over on harder and harder difficulty to get better loot so you can do next level.
I really am not sure why this is such a problem, for myself I also spent alot of cash/time on exotics and getting geared out. But I am very happy with the new ascended gear as I know it will add months and months of more enjoyment for me, this time however i wont have to do AC a load of times to get my exotics/cash/tokens I can do the fractal dungeon and get the peices from doing the bosses there.
Some people call it months and months of enjoyment others call it months and months of grinding same dungeon. Guess it depends how you define the two.
I would be glad if ANet could answer one question:
Is Ascended tier going to be the last to be introduced or we will see Ascended 1, Ascended 2, 3 and so on?
Even if “filling the gap” sounds like an excuse on ANet’s side, anyone can make mistakes, but if this is only the beginnning of a tier system…
Well then all they said in the manifesto, all their declarations are nothing but a bunch of lies and I will not play a game made by liers.
More likely to be;
Infusion → Infusion critical mitigation → Infusion critical bonus mitigation → Infusion resists → infusion condition resists → Infusion critical condition resists → and so on…
Also, for those of you too lazy to go and read it, here’s the main point:
- “We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.”
Problem is this doesn’t really answer many questions people are having.
So if it’s not every 3 months then how often?
They also said they would add “progression” with larger updates. So this means we there will be at least 3+ months between updates/new content?
They say it’s not gear treadmill. However other games that do have it usually add new gear with expansions. Can be years between each expansion but it’s still considered a gear treadmill.
But most important is they said pre launch exotic would be most powerful gear and everything else purely cosmetic. If the new gear is meant to be a step between exotic and legendary then why have better stats on it? Would love for someone to explain this, maybe there is something I am missing here.
no, thats not how things work. Maybe in a perfect world when both p[layers play perfectly always. But your reaction speed varies sometimes you do a wrong keystroke active a cd early. Those play a larger role than the 5% stat increase. Honestly how often do your duels end up being a double ko. seriously
So if they said people that run the the new dungeons could use that new gear in sPVP and tournaments you would be ok with that right. As it’s only 5%, thats nothing…
If they want to make money and keep people playing add more stuff to Gem store. Just because people are stuck in a tread mill wont give them more money if there isn’t anything worth buying except gold.
And that open slot is for dungeon and useless out of it. Didn’t you read?!
yes but the point is Anet said they would not have gated content at 80. Meaning you do not need to grind dungeon A before you can do dungeon B. As there will only be one dungeon now that requires infusion gear it’s not a big problem. But I think what most are worried about is how it will be after a few more are out. For a new level 80 will they have to grind some old dungeon first before they can do new ones?
1.) Acended ring kill jewelry crafting.
2.) It is not “just” one ring or one backslot. It’s a beginning of new Tier gears.
3.) Agony/Infusion mechanic means — if your equipment sux (you do not have enough acended gears), then you are not allowed to do those new dungeons.
4.) It forces you to grind if you want better gears for WvW or if you want to be qualified for the harder dungeons.
5.) Old contents/gears become less useful or even become completely useless.
6.) All these mean whenever Anet pushes a new future, you’ll need to grind new Tier gears again and again.Ok, i dont think you really grasped the mechanics we’re getting.
You can run the whole dungeon without any ascended gear, its not needed for any of the content or rewards. when you have completed the dungeon you have the option of doing it again, on a harder difficulty. If you like this instance you will run if often and get ascended gear to run it even more cycles on harder and harder difficulty. if you dont like it you can ignore it and wait for the next dungeon.
But people will run it to get best gear. Then when next dungeon comes they need to make it challenging. So they set the entry bar slightly higher so you need at least 1 piece of ascended gear with infusion. No big deal most have 1 piece. And then next dungeon most have 2 pieces and so on… Once eveyone has infusion in all slots next stat will come called critical infusion mitigation…
…but it’s not the highest level gear. Not even the best stats, there is no way to know that without seeing it. They may release better runes/upgrades for exotics. It hasn’t been released. They never advertised they wouldn’t add a new dungeon specific gear.
And that is why most are complaining. Anet promised a game with no gear treadmill. Only a few months in and we are on the way there. Even a small increase in stats will make older content gated.
The best thing about GW2 was once you get the exotic you wanted you had the best gear and could do everything in game without any pre requisites. Having gear with better stats or even worse a completely new stat to complete new content is the definition of a gear treadmill.
A new Rift expansion is coming soon. I have not played since start and even though my char was max level with all end game gear when I left I am now so far behind in the gear treadmill I will need to spend ages grinding old content to even be able to try the new stuff. Anet said GW2 would be different. Seams it is not.
I usually respect everyone’s opinion and don’t involve myself into such argument, but I hate to see this..
Stop whining.. seriously!
You don’t have to get the Ascended armor set unless you want to play the new dungeon. It’ll basically gives better protection against the new game mechanic.
It ‘ll slightly powerful than exotic yes, but guess what, I don’t have full exotic set and I don’t have a single problem with dungeons, WvW whatsoever.So.. you making yourselves the problem. If you don’t want it you don’t get it. It’s that simple. If you don’t like the new dungeon, you don’t go in there. You won’t miss on anything.
So.. you making yourselves the problem. If you don’t want it you don’t get it. It’s that simple. If you don’t like the new dungeon, you don’t go in there. You won’t miss on anything.Duh…
You can also do WvW at level 10 with tutorial gear. But most people will want the best gear. I mainly do WvW but I do like to do PvE sometimes. Big part of GW2 compared to other games is it’s free so I can leave it, come back with next expansion and try new dungeons and stuff for fun without having to grind previous dungeons for gear.
All this is going to do it add the usual gated content they have in other game. Need x amount of resists to do this or new infusion stat to try that. This is against everything Anet said about the game before launch/up until now.
After reading blog I must say I am very disappointed with this. No gear grind was one of the big selling points of GW2.
Also infusions sounds very much like the start to the typical resist gear or “crit mit” (EQ2) type stat that usually pops up in gear treadmill games after a few expansions when DPS/Healing/Mitigation stats are out of control. Seeing something like this in GW2 just a few months after launch is absolutely awful.
Force vertical sync on = people angry they can’t go above 60 FPS
Leave vertical sync optional = people burn out their video cards
There’s no winning side for game developers. It’s up to the consumer to know how to properly use their computer. Guild Wars 2 isn’t the only game which is going to burn out your video card.
Unless you have some kind of high end monitor the default refresh rate is 60 anyway. So no reason not to have fps capped 60. People that burn video cards usually have a cooling problem with the card. Maybe overclocked or something and fan just can’t keep up.
Why not try some other tactic to break the turtle? Isn’t it great that WvW is not only about more number and more dps wins the day?
You all know you can’t beat a turtle with pure zerg aoe dps. Just because you don’t know (and probably haven’t even tried to find) a counter doesn’t mean there isn’t one.
As far as I can tell only a few guilds of around 50 people of so are using this tactic to the point of “invincibility” . That’s a very small portion of all of BG. How can this be such a big problem so that’s the only thing to discuss? Is there nothing else going on in any borderzone in any other timezone other then the one the turtle is in? And I don’t count hacking.
There are plenty of ways to counter a turtle. But just randomly zerging it over and over is not one of them.
1. sPVP where everyone has same gear/lvl and skills
2. WvW, been really missing large scale battles in other games
3. Dynamic events/Orr, not quite what I imagined but still step up from traditional quests
4. Beautifully designed areas and art work and interesting lore
5. No monthly fee
When I first heard them talk about Orr it was kind of like this I imagined it. And it’s a real shame it didn’t turn out like that.
But I can understand why it’s like it is. With group only content you get way more grief from players. Why can’t I solo? I can never find group. My server is dead and can never complete event. Why is there no group finder? Content is too hard. I don’t like being forced to do anything with anyone… the list goes on.
Thought it was other way around. Login servers are all in US but game servers were local.
I noticed absolutely no difference in latency between EU and US server. I haven’t done any ping tests but it runs just as smooth on US server.
That problem you mentioned kinda makes all the difference doesn’t it? Guilds are abusing that “problem” and calling it SUPER LEGIT STRATEGIC TACTICS.
I agree. But again Anet will hopefully fix it. Memser portal just makes it easier to abuse. Changing portal skill won’t fix the problem.
Rather they should leave portal as it is for now and focus on fixing other skills. Like the warrior shouts that actually cause more problems then portal. And maybe change max aoe targets to combat zergs.
Without some rather OP healing and the lack of aoe dps from defenders jumping a giant zerg into one spot is pretty risky tactic in my opinion.
Of course not being able to see people is a whole different matter. Something that really needs to be addressed ASAP.
People speak French and Spanish in a lot more countries outside EU. Guess there are some Germans outside of EU too, just my geography is bad so no idea where :P
Its funny seeing people defending this crap. Countering mesmer portal bombs? LOL What a good one. There is no hard counter for portal bombs that can be easily laid down by a single mesmer using invis.
Portal bomb is a legit tactic. The problem is the rendering issues, lag and invincible ball it crates when a lot of people all stack in the same area. All things I hope Anet will fix in time. But using a portal isn’t the problem really, it just makes it easier to stack up and “exploit” the rendering and healing/aoe mechanics.
Nice vid. I run something similar build but max in water for aura spreading. Very nice for support in 8v8 but lower self dps. Can’t believe how many of those big earth aoe people just eat. Most times I try them people run away or interrupt me.
All the D/D gap closers are kind of bugged in one way or another. Makes it very frustrating as mobility is one of the strongest sides of D/D.
Find chests → buy keys → fill bags/bank with trash → buy bank/bag space → more room for chest – buy more keys → and so on
Don’t like the idea of spots on map. All they need is to show name tags. If it really is a problem with slow loading models then at least let some kind of model load. Like everyone has human low res model with just solid colour skin.
Why are people so obsessed with winning? So what if a server caps everything during night and wins the overall match? They get absolutely nothing for it except long queue times.
People say it’s not war it’s meant to be fun. Well ask yourself what is fun? Being on a high pop server with long queue times and when you finally get in you see your server already owns everything and there is nothing to do but “win” the match. Or be on a server with shorter queue times where there is always something to fight for but loose.
I don’t care about winning the match. So what? I would much rather be able to jump in to WvW with minimal queue times. Have fun taking forts and killing people while I can. Log off and loose then sit in a queue for hours but be able to boast that I was in the winning servers queue.
As soon as people get their priorities right and start moving to more balanced servers maybe the night cap and queues issues will sort them selves out.
Funny that she mentions forced AA on the list. Does that mean using Nvidia control panel to use specific graphic settings and SLI profiles or even just changing gamma levels in GW2 is considered a 3rd party software and not allowed? What about overclocking software?

80 Sylvari Elementalist 9/10
Still a lot of things that need fixing but there is enough stuff that works for me to still have fun.
OP:
EVE ONLINE
(i quit it because it was too much life consuming, never ending).
EVE is defiantly hardcore.
Spending weeks mining the same asteroid belt.
Jumping through gates for hours to sell the ore.
Then spend even longer jumping around buying a new ship and all the modules needed and get it down to null sec.
Spend 3 min get owned by a orbiting frigate you can’t hit. Priceless.
I love EVE Online. Seriously. It’s a great game, but not for everyone.
Won’t take any player data as fact. Only way to get facts is to get a official answer from Anet. What we need to know is if the % chance of, say a blue crafting material decreases after x amount of kills. Not how many blue bones you got after killing some mobs.
think of it this way would you think of top guilds/players in the game as casual?
no they are hardcore guilds with hardcore players that want to be the best in the games they play. In gw2 there is no need for this type of players/guilds because its so casual in every aspect
Tell that to the sPVP teams winning tournaments or the very organized guilds dominating WvW.
Top hardcore guilds in other games usually meant world first raid kills. Witch basically all it means is they have enough people willing to commit to x days of raiding a week.
What do you mean with hardcore. Like EQ1 hardcore?
Where you respawn naked and have to fight your way back to your corpse to get gear back?
Where dying in some places without any respawn or way to get back in?
Where disarm makes you drop your weapon on the ground for any player to pick up? Where mob spawns required for progression are so rare you need to camp the same spot for hours/days?
Won’t deny it was a lot of fun back in the day. But tbh if they released that 2012 I think I would have to pass.

Really enjoying how much different things I can do on my Elementalist. D/D is just so much fun. Recently got to 80 and had a first look in Orr. The events there look like a lot of fun if you can push them further in.
PvE exploration is great. Such amazing looking environments. It’s a nice change after running through corridors in space :P
The absolute best part is still pvp though. Even with quite a lot of bugged skills a lot of different balancing issues for both sPVP and WvW. But I am still having a lot of fun trying different builds and play-styles in sPVP or taking down forts with my guild in WvW.
If you are worried enough about getting a ban for something to post on forums about it then if I were you I would avoid doing it. Play the game the way it’s “meant” to be played in my opinion, even if server transfer “exploits” may not be banable.
Cheating ruins your own game experience just as much as it ruins others. Like in single player games, just because you can /console invulnerability it doesn’t make the game any more fun in the long run.
Have to agree with this. Summon Elemental is the only land one that feels remotely useful. The summon sword is fun to mess around with but just doesn’t feel very elite. The tornado is so slow it just doesn’t do much use. To make it more useful they need to make it more like the necro lich skill where you can move around and use abilities. Not just turn into a tornado and hope people run into you.
I’ve seen these exact same type of threads in every recent MMO released.
And every one of them end up being a ghost town.I enjoy the game, but I’m worried about the population of players doing a mass exodus in the end.
Telling people to leave is not the answer.
The exact same complaints come up for every MMO released too. Lack of content/endgame, too much of a grind, not enough/too easy rewards, too hard/easy content. The list goes on. I think people have too high expectations on what a MMO can offer. Not just GW2 but any game. People expect to buy the game, get exactly what they want from day 1 and be entertained indefinitely.
No themepark type game will ever be able to please everyone and keep them entertained for ever. All you can do is play the game you enjoy the most. Doesn’t mean you can’t have a opinion on things. Just don’t expect devs to tailor the game after YOUR needs as something you like/dislike may not be the same for everyone.
I still think 50 times is way too much. that is still 50 hours to get one set of armor you may only like for a week.
and that is if you complete each run in an hour.
It’s all optional. If you want to grind a instance to look cool then it’s up to you. Remember it only turns into a grind if you let it. Nobody says you have to do it all at once. As it’s all cosmetic you don’t need any of it to do any other content. So it’s up to you if you want to grind each dungeon 3 times a day or 3 times a month.

Well what did you do in other mmorpg? Daily for faction? Dungeons/experts for gear? Raids? Crafting? Well you can do pretty much all that in GW2 except instanced raids. What were you expecting to be doing at endgame?
One hand I agree with costs but if it was free or close to it you would get people just respawn zerging instead. If you are greatly outnumbered maybe retreat and try something else. Without some kind of death penalty (except running back) it would just turn into a zerg meat grinder. Not all battles can be won and it’s kind of up to you to decide if it’s worth fighting for. Having a reduced health pool or stat reduction after death is even worse in my opinion. Rather have a XP penalty or something like Aion(?) had.
You don’t really need to repair unless you get broken gear. The costs are not that bad if you actually accomplish things in between deaths. Taking a fort or something together with selling some trash drops to merchant usually coves most repair costs. All depends how much you die and what you are doing.
How about having catapult and treb have a min distance before they do damage. So it need to travel say 1200 or something before it can actually do damage and if it hits anything closer then that it counts as a “missfire” and does no damage. They are meant to be long range siege weapons after all.
Once it goes to 2 week cycles it wont be much fun if you transfer and can’t WvW for that time. I hope spying and such will sort it self out once people actually have to pay real money for transfers.
Now with longer time servers are matched Anet may be able to get some good data on times when points are gained and things are capped. So if a server is capping a lot during night/early mornings they could maybe match them against other servers that do the same.
Also as match times go longer there is more time to catch up and also more interest in upgrading keeps to make them harder for a smaller group to flip during night.
Got to say this is great. In a lot of other games they make things easier early in due to complaints. Then few months later when people actually know how to beat them they are just so easy it just becomes a AoE speed run. Don’t think it will ever get that bad in GW2 with down leveling system and not being able to outgear anything but making stuff to easy too early is usually bad in the long run. Just wish they would remove the ability to respawn zerg dungeons too.
I could go back to highly scripted raiding or other group content. But no way I would be able to go back to questing or pvp.
Well, with Ele it honestly feels different then with classes like the Warrior.
See, with a Warrior, you’re weapon swapping because you need something situational, and that situational thing won’t always take even half of the duration on the weapon swap cooldown to acomplish. Then once done you don’t need that weapon anymore, and most of the time need your primary again, but can’t get back to it.
Where as with ele, it’s more like.. Ok, you used this element, now you can swap to this next one, which has all the same survival/utility/raw dmg type stuff as the last element, but with different gimmicks to it.
Regardless tho, you can get by with any of those elements, and don’t NEED to be on another one to 100% perform.Swapping between a melee/ranged wep as a War does not feel anywhere near as smooth as ele swapping for an elementalist. :/
Also, Elementalist basically gets 20 skills with smooth swapping due to them all being viable for 99% of situations, vs a melee char switching to a ranged wep to catch up to someone or hit a fleeing mob that then turns around, and stuff of that nature.
Well that’s not really how you “should” play Elementalist. Going fire then buring all CD there, swapping to air, burning all CD there and so on. And no damage/survivability/cc/support and so on are not all the same in all attunements. The skills are very different. And not sure what you mean by 100% perform. Perform what? DPS? This game is not about “look at the damage meter and max dps”. If you try that in sPVP you will fail.
Swapping weapons or attunements on Elementalist is a tactical decision. Not just a hot key to get “hot bar no. 2”. If you want to use a skill on a different weapon set you need to think to yourself, ok I know I won’t be able to swap back for x seconds. Do I really NEED to swap or can I do something else? And if you do swap then try to think out something else you can use on that weapon set before you can swap back. I have not played Warrior but there must be something. OK it may not be optimal but that is the trade off for swapping because you just had to use that one skill on that set. And it works exactly the same for Elementalist. The CD is shorter but the idea is the same.
If you swap to range to catch up with a melee mob and thats all you want to do maybe consider using a utility slot for that.
