We’ll take a look at the next step “Sign Cutting” being bugged out, as well as some or all of you having to jump through hoops to get the quest to update correctly. Sorry again for the inconvenience – we’ll have the quest’s designer and QA do a deeper dive on these issues.
This is still bugged. It’s been two and a half weeks and this story step is still buggy as heck.
Following up on today’s blog post about raid rewards, we wanted to share some details on specific items:
In order to preserve the challenge of raids, we’re disabling the use of a number of items inside raid instances. Many of these restrictions will be familiar, as they’re also disabled in WvW and dungeons. However, we are also disallowing the use of many runes and sigils that provide bonus damage versus particular types of enemies, as well as the potions that give similar effects. Using food and utility buffs inside a raid is perfectly okay, but most other items that give bonus damage or access to new skills beyond your profession have been disabled.
Could we get a list of what isn’t going to be acceptable? We need a list of all items that are going to be disabled. I don’t want go into the raid with runes or sigils that are completely useless.
Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

Redesign the hero point/elite specialisation unlock system. Number of hero points MUST go down. Difficulty of hero challenges MUST go down. Gimmicks like the boar hero challenge which require chronomancers with aoe alacrity MUST be completely removed and replaced with something else. All hero points must be attainable solo. If nothing else on that list happens, all hero points must be soloable, even the uselessly arbitrary gimmicky ones.
THIS in a nutshell. This is exactly what would fix the vast majority of what people are upset about.
Hey everyone, for those who are having trouble find the Hero Points in the new Heart of Thorns maps I have wrote up several guides for them. Right now I have Verdant Brink, Auric Basin, and Tangled Depths finished and hoping to have the final map done sometime tomorrow.
- Verdant Brink: http://dulfy.net/2015/10/25/gw2-verdant-brinks-hero-points-guide/
- Auric Basin: http://dulfy.net/2015/10/26/gw2-auric-basin-hero-points-guide/
- Tangled Depths: http://dulfy.net/2015/10/27/gw2-tangled-depths-hero-points-guide/
Enjoy!
Thank you. I’m going to make good use of these. The headache of navigating these maps when you have very little play time is going to be considerably less painful thanks to your guides. Thanks, dulfy!
So I recently reached 80 on my toon and I haven’t done the expansion’s prologue. I filled the xp bar and now it’s frozen. If I keep earning xp is that going to be wasted until I do the prologue or does it accumulate?
Your exp will only continue if you have HoT and if you have finished the first two parts of the new story to unlock the Mastery System. From then on any exp you gain will go toward whatever mastery track you’re on.
Why elite spec reqs DON'T need to be changed

When you buy a Zelda game do you cry to Nintendo that you can’t go onto and complete the last dungeon, have all equipment, at the start of the game? Prerelease they marketed progression in this expansion to that of Zelda and Metroid, you knew what you were getting into.
If, without taking sides, I understand the argument – and to use DOOM as my analogy: some players are arguing that they’re being forced to play through almost the entire campaign only to get the shotgun at the end, when all they wanted was to play through the campaign with the shotgun. Especially since they were given the impression from the box cover art that the shotgun would be standard issue.
Kind of, But.
Take the shotgun and put it behind a barrier that you cannot reach unless you have 4 other players standing on a pressure plates at the same time. And this is after you have played the game to death over 3 years using the same weapon and you will begin to see the problem.
This is a pretty good analogy, imo.
basically some people complain because their full zerker gear set is now obsolete in HoT map….
That is not what people are saying At All.
Yeah, no. You fail to see other’s PoV and thus to see facts.
“Optional work is not grind.” That’s very much true. However it is not optional, therefor a grind. Let me explain. Let’s assume you are a person like me and these dynamic events not high on your priority list. So what else to do? Plenty! Story: a huge drawing force for many players. Let’s do it! Oh, wait… it’s gated for no reason after the first. Fine, let’s get gliding even tho I don’t care about it. Done! Story time… and gated again. And again. And again. Fine. I’ll do something else.
This is true for the original 80 levels of the game… You need to gain EXP to unlock the further story steps. Maybe this game isn’t for you ?
It’s completely different from leveling 1-80. To level a character you could do so much to reach lv 80. You weren’t forced into do one thing. As /u/scoorps on reddit said :
“You could do PVP, WvW, solo PVE content, explore, do group PVE dynamic events, harvest, craft, story quests, or do dungeons to reach level 80. I had one character cover 20-odd levels off of nothing but crafting. …No one is actually upset they have to play the game to see the content. They’re kittened that the game’s done a complete 180 on design philosophy.”
Change thread title to “Mastery Progression is Impeccably Designed” and maybe I’d agree with you. Elite Specialization has a major, glaring design flaw. ANet has put challenging content requiring a group on one-and-done content. This is not going to work very well for limited-time players and late adopters.
I agree. Anet either needs to make the Hero Challenges 100% soloable or GREATLY reduce the number of hero points needed to unlock elite specializations. As someone who can usually only play during off hours/wee hours of the morning there is usually hardly anyone in the maps when I’m on —ALREADY, and HoT is less than a week old. This does not bode well for the future of this game. If I’m already struggling to find enough people on to do events with and do the more difficult hero challenges with and that’s just for one character. RIP all my alts. They need to fix this, and I mean fast.
It’s a brand new expansion that I’ve been excited about since it’s announcement on a game I’ve played on and off since beta and have loved for over three years, yet I’m sitting here on the forums reading instead of IN the game playing. That right there should tell you everything.
At this point I feel I’ve spent my hard earned money on an expansion pack that has turned my favorite game into a game I can’t even force myself to log into right now (despite having a very narrow window in which I can actually play). The game has gone from an alt friendly, progress your characters how you want, fun, solo friendly game to a massive grind forcing you to grind 400 hero points, which in turn forces you to grind masteries in the jungle, which in turn forces you to do group events on maps that almost always seam empty. Not a kitten ed thing is soloable and everything is gated. The game’s original play philosophy has done a complete 180.
How fun is HoT? To quote scoorps on reddit: “This isn’t just not-fun, it flies in the face of what the game was supposed to be about.”
Having said that they could go a LONG way in improving this and making this MUCH more enjoyable and fun by not gating our Elite Specializations behind a huge grind. I don’t think I or many others would mind the rest of the grind if we could at least do it on our elite specializations.

Symbol of Energy: Increased missile velocity by 60%. Increased symbol damage by 10%. The initial burning impact now inflicts two stacks of burning, up from one. This skill can now be fired behind you.
I’m so confused. From Aug 26:
- Symbol of Energy: Removed the burning on impact (no other symbol has an additional effect, so this felt weird). Increased damage dealt by 10%.
I noticed that too, i am hoping that maybe they decided to keep the burning because many people complained about its removal. This makes my condi guard happy!
Now i hope they bring back bleed in some form.
Yeah, after hearing they were removing burning from LB I was pretty much ready to give up on Dragonhunter since I enjoy playing Condi builds the most. Now that they’ve not only kept the burning but added another stack this might actually be something I’ll play. Over all I’m pretty happy with the changes but do hope they add at least one or two other conditions to Dragonhunter’s skills.
Best Elite Ever!
I don’t think my reasons are poor at all, they are personal reasons to me and enough reason to start me looking elsewhere for gaming. The discussion was if you believed the end of GW was nigh, I personally think it is.
I’d have to whole-heartedly disagree with you. This game is still going well and strong and will be for a long time to come. I’ve been playing since beta and it keeps me coming back every day -no MMO except my first one 13 years ago has been able to do that. Guild Wars 2 will be around for many more years. I’m sorry to hear that you might be leaving, but I’m willing to bet you’ll be back.
Pistol: One of the least used weapons, mainhand for Thief is weak and used only in some rare condi builds in PVP, Engineers use it too but it doesn’t have much usage as a mainhand
If Engineers take it as an off-hand, they have to take it as a main hand.
Also with Burn Engie, P/P is the weapon set of choice.
Income is usually RNG based so it runs in ranges. Even if someone was to post a 10g/h avg your personal results may vary.
Yes, but has anyone done any math or data on it? At all?

Hmm That doesn’t really help since they don’t say how long it took. I guess I’ll just have to do some testing myself once I get a little more time to play. Thanks anyway.

we want and need a wvw season
When was the last time we got one? Like 8 months ago?
Definitely mace.
Mace is meta for a couple different Guardian builds. Though that’s probably the only class where it’s meta, so you might be right.
I’d probably guess mace or pistol.
I’ve seen a lot of people say the way to make the most gold in this game is the Silverwastes. Though every time I see someone post about it seams like the “gold per hour” just keeps getting higher. First people where saying “10 gold an hour”, then it was “15”, now I’m seeing “20 gold per hour”. Has anyone done any math on this? I’d love to see some science behind these numbers I keep seeing thrown around. Does anyone have any actual data on the average gold per hour gain from the Silverwastes?
If you’re going to buy it anyway, there is no reason not to prepurchase it – doing so now will get you the free character slot. If you wait until HoT launch you will most likely not get the character slot.
If you’re waiting for a sale or for it to get cheaper, it’s not likely to go on sale until quite a while after launch. In the mean time you’ll be missing a lot of the content that those who buy the expansion will be getting.
In the end though, it’s up for you to decide if it’s worth it or not.
Large Norn Female body type clips on SO MANY armors. This has greatly cut down on the amount of armors she can wear. It’s been an issue since launch.
Ok, guys. Some of you are unhappy about this change, I can see that. BUT… quite honestly, most of you are sort of (I hate to use the word) ranting (sorry!) instead of offering suggestions.
I assure you, the team leader told me not 15 minutes ago, they will listen to suggestions.
- Does that mean you get everything you want? Probably not.
- Does that mean you should suggest something? Yes, of course! Because they’re expecting player input.
So you want lower increments? Think it through and present a suggestion! You want XYZ in the interface? Post that idea. You would rather see something else? Post what you think about that other thing. Please don’t get into the whole “I’m going to kick the devs and their little dogs, too” because it’s not doing you or us any good at all.
I’m not here to apologize. I’m here to communicate and right now, the communication is coming in without a whole lot of substance. Over to you for suggestions and constructive input!
You guys want to do increments instead of letting us chose the exact amount? Fine, then do it at 50 gem increments. At the very MOST it should be 100. The 400 increments is an incredibly bad idea.
Also, bring back the gem/gold history. Many of us use the history as a tool to help us decide when to buy gems, when to convert them, etc. By taking that way you are keeping us blind and taking away an important tool. It also looks incredibly suspicious to remove it. Please bring it back, and if you INSIST on forcing us to buy/convert in increments, make it lower increments like 50 or 100 gems.
