Collaborative Development Topic- Living World

For me, the Living World content is a let down, that has lasted from the start of this year to now. The last world event I thoroughly enjoyed was with the Southsun Cove Karka Queen battle. It had an awesome build up story with the attack on Lions Arch (even if it was laggy, it was still mega fun!), which lead to the amazing final assault on the island! The loot was cool with a special unique 20 bag slot and a first ever celestial jewelry piece! These items are my souvenirs and I remember my friend drooling is awe and jealously as he missed the event. Lesson learnt: attend future GW2 events as they are amazing! Simple superb and one of the best MMO gaming experiences ever for my guild and I.

Halloween and Christmas came and they were both amazing with fantastic scenery. I remember the forums being filled with posts of “Best in-game Halloween Event ever played,” and it was. Then for the new year we hear about the new Living World content starting with Flame & Frost. Excitement builds up again; what could this be, will this involve dragons??!! It sure sounds like it.

No, it’s not. It’s a disappointing part 1 of 4 chain of repairing signs and trying to figure out what’s going on. I remember reading the /map chat comments of: “failed event!” and “is this it?” How was this changing the world? I remember reading a forum post about all this confusion and the favoured response was: “this is exactly where ANET wants you to be,” what confused for months on end with heralds that don’t tell us anything new?

But this was all new trial content. The Living World team only comprised of two people and we know ANET is a big company with hundreds of talented developers, so they must be working on something else…. like an expansion? I believed that to be the case, that your primary efforts were with making new areas/skills/traits/classes/WvW/everything and that the Living World was a small project to keep us occupied until then. Nope, not the case. Can you imagine how disappointing it was for us to hear that Living World was your answer to the expansion.

A while ago, I talked this over with my friend and he said it would of been a lot better if these Living World content had server changing choices. That way, each story would be slightly different on most worlds making yours really feel your own and personal to you.

I don’t know what to say really for adding positive feedback for improvements. It feels like the damage is done and you could of done a whole lot more with this content, but hey no that’s hinds sight for you.

“What’s more is that the team is also working very kitten finding a way to make it so that every profession has access to every weapon and their own weapon skills for those previously locked weapons. Engineer plus Hammer? Check. Again, there’s no specific timeline for this, but a new progression system is coming.” – from the article.

So we progress somehow to unlock or earn the weapon? Either way sounds pretty concrete to me

*edit: lolz, the word h.ard is considered a swear word!

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that we are getting the hammer weapon. It was from a “future of Guild Wars 2” article with Colin Johanson and this was an example of what to expect in the long term. I don’t have the source though : /

Sylvari T2 Medium Armour Colours

Hello, on my ranger I am using T2 Sylvari armour until I can afford the T3 armour, which by the way looks amazing!!

For my T2 look I use the colours Evergreen & Wrath. What is this brown stuff in-between? I’ve tried changing all 3 and I can’t seem to get rid of it. I want to chamge it to a darker colour, anything except light brown!

Any help or ideas on how to change this default shade?

Engineer Tank Stats

I roll WvW a lot with my guild which means a fair bit of zerging. Before the patch, I was a bit lost and confused as to where we would fit in the zerg, if so at all. My picture shows my current stats and from what I’ve seen on the other class forums is this as close to top stats I can get.

I was wondering if there are any other engineers out there that focus primarily on toughness/vitality/armour and surviving the zerg? And what do you have?

Give me:
Rifles – 1200 range
Pistols – 900 range
>>>>Shotguns – 300-600 range!<<<<

Then give us the the TF2 Heavy Weapons Guy minigun weapon kit, with toolbelt skill: “Natasha” spray & pray laugh animation!

And finally the ultimate Sniper Kit, an elite skill, the one and only elite device kit!

Give me this and I will die happy.

Don’t forget the Ranger for those evasive skills. With my Shortbow + Sword/Dagger weapons and the utility Lightning Reflexes, you can jump around, spin around the enemy, cripple and stun.

We don't like Trahearne *Spoiler Warning* [merged]

in Personal Story

Posted by: Stevens.2791

Stevens.2791

My first character was a Sylvari ranger and I meet Trahearne before the battle at Claw Island. Throughout my story he felt like my warrior brother as we stood side by side with our greatswords defeating enemies. So the shock of loosing my mentor for Trahearne seemed perfectly normal to me and back then I couldn’t understand why people hated him.

For my second character I’ve made a human engineer with the Order of Whispers and I finally understand. Loosing Tybalt for Trahearne was just devastating and it showed me how bland and boring Trahearne really is. So I can only conclude to advise all new gw2 gamers to roll Sylvari for their first character, as story wise it made sense.

p.s. I really wanted to marry Caithe and have little salad babies

Staff for Ranger

in Ranger

Posted by: Stevens.2791

Stevens.2791

As a ranger, a lot of time, it feels like I’m playing another class or a similar version of that. I can make builds based around our elite skills + heals.

Like a Warrior: Greatsword/Longbow. Elite – Rampage As one. Gear focus towards P/T/V with Troll Unguent + Fern wolf heal for nearly constant regen. High survivability, low damage.

Like a Thief: Shortbow/Sword Dagger. Elite – Entangle. Gear focus towards Power/Precision/Condition Dmg (can go bezerker tho). Healing with Heal as One for those quick heals. High damage, very weak, lots of CC.

And this is what I would love:

Like a Elementalist: *Staff. Elite = Spirit of Nature. Gear focus towards Toughness/Healing/Boon Duration. Wtih 4 spirits providing buffs and heals, an off hand axe/warhorn providing 24-27sec buff – I would love a staff to provide boons, water cleansing heals, water combo fields and Nature themed animated skills. Healing skill: Healing Spring, which is just amazing.

*I just use the Axe/Warhorn.

S/D Gap-closer

in Ranger

Posted by: Stevens.2791

Stevens.2791

I use shortbow and sword/dagger and I feel like a thief too! Use the Master Wilderness Survival Off-Hand Training trait and that will increase #5 crippling talon to 1200. Combined with shortbot #4 crippling shot, you always have a 1200 range cripple to help close the gap.

But don’t forget we are rangers, use your pet to slow them. Loads of options here. I personally like the Owl, with Malicious Training, its about a 6-8 second chill!

Whirling Defense

in Ranger

Posted by: Stevens.2791

Stevens.2791

The Warrior’s #5 offhand axe skill Whirling Axe is pretty much what your guys are asking for. Same animation, but can move and also does a bit more damage.

In comparison, I can see the dev’s reasoning. The warriors are the melee experts, so they can move. Rangers (are supposed to be) the range experts, so we can’t move. If so, I bet you warriors would complain how a ranger class is on par with a melee class! Hah! Funny how them warriors do more damage with bows than us, but yes I know I know we have the pet dps, when it’s alive…

Frost Spirit & Spirit of Nature

in Ranger

Posted by: Stevens.2791

Stevens.2791

Ok, I think I’m starting to understand this.

The “effect chance buffs” (below the boon line) last for 6 seconds, starts for 6 secs – 3 secs and then restarts again at 6 seconds. While these icons are active you have a 35% chance (50% traited) to activated the buffs.

The Buffs:
Sun Spirit – Applies a 4 second burn condition to your target. Has a minimum downtime of 6 second, assuming you proc straight away. Unsure if it stacks with multiple team members.

Stone Spirit – Applies a 3 second protection boon to yourself. Has a minimum downtime of 7 second, assuming you proc straight away.

Storm Spirit – Applies a 8 second swiftness boon to yourself. Has a minimum downtime of 2 second, assuming you proc straight away.

Frost Spirit – Applies a (unknown) to yourself. Has a minimum downtime of (unknown) second(s), assuming you proc straight away.

So it looks like to me that storm spirit is the best with pretty much a constant swiftness buff, assuming you proc straight away. The sun spirit looks cool as well, as if it stacks with team members then that could be a constant burn condition on your enemy, which is great for boss fights.

But what about Frost spirit, what does it provide? Is it as simple as a straight up +10% damage numbers from your attacks, that you won’t really notice? I really can’t see any boon or condition effect, or a visual aide to show me its working.

Frost Spirit & Spirit of Nature

in Ranger

Posted by: Stevens.2791

Stevens.2791

Yes, I know, they suck. Yes I know, they aren’t viable and still useless. However, I still like using them and can you believe it, when I joined my guild for a Fractal lvl 1 run my friends responses were: “Wow, these buffs are cool, we gotta bring a ranger more often!” gasp

Anyway, my question is with the frost spirit (blue one, +10% bonus damage on hits). Before the update I’m sure the +10% effect was shown with a Might buff on my team. Now I don’t see this at all, I see the protections, swiftness-er-ess and burning from the other spirits but not this might. And also, is the proc chance based around when my friends are hit by enemies, or when they hit enemies?

And lastly Spirit of Nature. I love the revive command ability, I rezzed so many people for the world event when those Veteran Karka’s did their roll move. But where is the regen boon? Does it worked like the others, with a proc chance? I sometimes get it and others it just sits there doing nothing. Seems random to me. Anyone know?

I highly doubt I’ll get an official reply since the devs love visiting us here, but if you guys can shed some intel on this, I’ll be very grateful. Cheers.

Should Rangers be tied to their pets?

in Ranger

Posted by: Stevens.2791

Stevens.2791

A lot of rangers compare our ranged damage to warrior ranged damage and it in straight bow to bow/gun comparison, yes the warrior hits for more.

Yesterday, after the patch was released I was doing some PvE content with my warrior friend. He was using his gun and found out he would hit for 300-600, with myself hitting for 100-300. My crits were his minimum! Now that’s depressing! And I’m supposed to be the ranged rogue bow master.

But I overlooked my pet’s damage. My bear was hitting for 500-600, which then makes me the greater damage dealer. And that was my bear, the tough pet, if I had my crow or lynx out those numbers would be in the thousands. That’s quite a lot more damage than my friend now.

This idea of pets making up half, or even greater ratios, or our damage is great when it works and it does in pve, but most of the time it doesn’t in pvp. I don’t think rangers want our pets to be the greater damage dealers, which is a misunderstanding of our class. Or you could argue Anet didn’t explain this in the character creation class description.

So my answer is yes, if the pet AI issues were fixed it was a good choice to tie in our damage with an AI companion.
