I’ve been away from the game for about a month, and in that time we’ve gotten a balance patch. In addition, I haven’t played since the WvW changes. I feel like I should update my build, but I’m not really sure what the meta is like for roaming at the moment. What have you guys been having success with?
Thoughts on the tiny shield nerf? Have you noticed it in fights?
Nerf? This is a buff for some builds. Slightly shorter block means faster phantasms.
Remember, it’s only OP if a Mesmer can do it!
why did they do this? can’t they add an option to make our own computer to display this?, or an option, for ppl to disable if it annoys them.
Nerf mesmer on abilities and now on visual effect…
Wow, we are hated so muchAccording to Colin, you’re killing SPvP if you’re against the visual changes.
Killing sPvP doesn’t sound so bad right now. Seriously, it’s getting to the point where I’m beginning to resent PvP and actively avoiding it. Anet’s fixation on it is becoming detrimental to the rest of the game.
The real outrage is that Anet hasn’t said a word about it. At least Colin finally spoke up about WvW. All they had to do was mention that months ago and all the backlash surrounding the new borderlands could have been avoided.
I think they do not get that most of the player base don’t care about e-sports and just want to have fun with friends. And what is there to watch? All the beautiful animations are dying. There’s nothing to watch.
Take the tinfoil hat off for just 2 seconds…..
It’s not about e-Sports, it’s about creating a more dynamic and easier to read combat. This applies to Raids and future content where the mobs do more than just face tank you.
Carry on.
This is entirely about eSports. And take a good look at the new auras and tell me they’re “easy to read.” You can’t even tell they’re there. They are visually and mechanically worse for the game. They objectively suck.
I don’t get it. They received overwhelmingly negative feedback last time they did it, and then they do it again. Their esports pipedream isn’t going to happen. It’s a saturated market as it is, and GW2 doesn’t measure up to other esport games in terms of competitive gameplay. Anet needs to stop neutering the game in the name of PvP (statistically the least played gamemode) and focus on the MMO aspects of GW2
I’m torn between replacing signet for Well of Precognition, Well of Action, or Arcane Thievery for WvW roaming. Have you tried any of those?
Work on PvP is really starting to get to the point where it’s detrimental for the rest of the game. Astroturfing an esports scene never works. If a game is naturally good in a competitive way, esports will follow naturally. The biggest esports titles never went out of their way to design for it initially. PvP is statistically the least played gamemode, and gutting your visuals for it is a terrible idea.
I could imange such high degree of allmost instant burst will break the build, in spcial when it rely on active defence to outlast bursts! Kinda the same issue it can have vs burst Thief/mesmer from stealth, where you don’t have the possiblity to react on the stealth burst!
But it’s a succes at my end, if my post inspired you to make a build you are satisfied and happy with, that were the important part about all this!Burst mesmers with MoD and CS can be a problem, but they are glassy too, and the build excels in putting constant pressure so they retreat quickly. Same with thieves.
Now that I think of, Reapers are more of a threat, especially since they have unblockable skills. You go “all blocking” to win some time for the heal to get off cd and they just kitten you right through your shield
Just fought a reaper, wasn’t hard at all. You can melt through their shroud with your insane clone generation, and remove all their CCs with more shatters and your heal. Not to mention the fact that you can stay well out of their reach and still wreak havoc.
You may want to consider submitting this to Metabattle. It seems that a lot of people are finding the build very effective, and I’ve yet to see any WvW builds on there since HoT launched.
I’ve been trying this out with marauder gear and knight’s trinkets. Good results so far, I’ve yet to die. It’s amazing how much sustain you can get with typically glassy gear.
I’m not sure I follow with the whole health pool thing. It just means that you have a bigger reserve to burn through before you have to heal. Main reason I’m suggesting Marauder’s is because power/precision/ferocity/toughness gear unfortunately isn’t available, and the vitality would be more useful than a little more ferocity. Marauder gear with Knight’s trinkets would make you substantially beefier with little DPS drop.
The new maps are amazing, masteries were implemented perfectly, and all of the elite specs are a blast to play.
Especially tempest -_-
I’ve played Chronomancer, Daredevil, Scrapper, Reaper, Tempest, and Herald. Yet to be disappointed by any of them.
Interesting build. I’ll have to give this a shot. Have you considered giving Marauder’s gear a shot for additional sustain? Also, how do you deal with people who try to run away?
Base Mesmer is still viable. That said, you are absolutely missing out by not getting HoT. The new maps are amazing, masteries were implemented perfectly, and all of the elite specs are a blast to play.
Rofl, PvP is a mess, and WvW is utterly broken, and we’re talking fundamentally, not class balance. xD
But yeah buy HoT, Berserker is great
Can’t really talk about PvP since I haven’t played it much. I’m reserving all judgement about the WvW maps until the population picks up a bit. It’s not perfect, but Anet is trying. PvE maps are incredible, especially Dragon’s Stand.

This statement implies that anybody is actually roaming in WvW atm.
This is a faulty assumption, nobody is roaming, even at high tiers. In T2 (FA) prime time, there’s maybe a 2-3 people roaming on any given map.
While Fay is totally right, that roaming have been pretty dead, I would just like to add that it’s slowly starting to live up again!
I at least The last two days in T4 on EU have seen some good fights and stuff! Dueling have start to live up again aswell, so that is great!
But hence, I’m afraid it’s far to early to say what is the roaming Meta, many of the players I meet are running new and intrestring builds they are testing out!
This has been the case with me. FA has picked up a bit. I just got back into WvW a few days ago.
Viper gear is broken, expertise is not applying any effects.
I believe it’s been fixed
Now that we’ve had plenty of time to do all the meta events, are any of the chains particularly profitable? SW has gotten pretty old at this point, and I’ve love to farm some of the new maps.
In regards to point 1, the Dragon’s Stand meta event takes place at the same time. The Mouth of Mordremoth is his physical body. That’s there your epic Elder Dragon fight is. Admittedly, the PS does a poor job of elaborating on this.
Has a clear roaming meta emerged for the HoT WvW metagame? I’ve heard that condition builds are all the rage right now. Has anybody had any success with this? Everybody’s talking about Viper gear too. What are you guys running? How has the meta changed now that we’ve gotten to play with our new toys for the past two weeks?
But that wouldn’t really make sense for why the Nightmare also protects against Mordremoth.
Because it’s technically still part of the Dream, just a damaged part of it.
I always assumed that the Nightmare is the result of parts of the dream being damaged by Mordremoth’s attacks on it. The Pale Tree tries to maintain the illusion, but it’s inevitable that the constant attacks on it will have side effects. It’s been established that they’re corrupted somehow, yet not Mordrem. The Nightmare being an unintended side effect of dragon corruption makes sense.
Now that we know that the Nightmare Court wasn’t created via dragon corruption, how do you guys think they came to be? It’s established that Nightmare Court members are “corrupted” somehow and that it’s a one-way street. This sounds similar to dragon corruption, and that was the popular theory before Anet’s lore post. If they’re corrupted but not dragon minions, what are they?
Personally, my guess is that the “Nightmare” is some sort of byproduct of Mordremoth’s attacks on the Dream. The Pale Tree was able to repel him, but wasn’t able to stop him from damaging some parts of the Dream, hence the Nightmare.
From what I’ve gathered regarding the Dragon’s Stand meta dialogue and from the final instance dialogue is that the Mouth of Mordremoth is actually Mordremoth’s physical body – it’s the mouth we saw at the end of S1/beginning of HoT. The reason why we can’t kill Mordy by killing the Mouth of Mordremoth is that his mind is effectively in all of his corruption so he can just regrow his body (explaining why the meta is a repeating event).
This is correct. “Mouth of Mordremoth” and just “Mordremoth” are used interchangeably throughout the event.
If you think scale is an issue, you clearly haven’t played the Dragon’s Stand event. That’s where all the Pact members you’ve been helping throughout the last 3 maps come together and fight Mordremoth’s physical body, and it’s easily the most epic thing Anet has ever made.
That was a champion, not Mordremoth.
No, that was Mordremoth himself, or at least his head. NPCs and event information refers to it as Mordremoth and the Mouth of Mordremoth interchangeably, it’s far bigger and stronger than any regular champion, and it’s even right in the middle of an area called the “Dragon’s Domain” on a map called “Dragon’s Stand.” The Mouths of Zhaitan are monsters that eat magical artifacts for him. The Mouth of Mordremoth is literally Mordremoth’s mouth.

Given the final instance of Heart of Thorns, there’s the possibility that Zhaitan “lives on” in a manner of speaking, but it’s pure speculation. But Mordremoth is dead.
I’ve of a recent theory that Zhaitan still lives, because of the case with Mordremoth and the situation of Arah explorable having risen talking about Zhaitan as if he still lives.
This is likely an oversight on Anet’s part. The Omadd’s Machine cutscene pretty clearly implies that he’s dead.
I can see Jormag or Bubbles being next. Personally, I actually don’t think Kralk will put up nearly as much of a fight as Mordremoth or even Zhaitan. 5 guys and a dragon champion were able to bring him to the brink of death. Even if he was newly awakened, that’s still pretty weak compared to what we’ve seen so far. Kralk then flew south, and is just sitting there doing nothing as far as we can tell. Personally, I think he’s either dying or severely wounded, and that he’ll die either in the Living World or early in the expansion pack, and the rest of the expansion story will involve dealing with the fallout. Perhaps Joko will come into play. Anet has set him up as a major antagonist.
The spike doesn’t kill Mordy. At the end of the Dragon’s Stand meta event where the map closes, it’s implied that he regenerates himself. In the story, you permanently kill him by attacking and destroying his mind so he can’t resurrect himself.
Based on the original personal story, Zhaitan’s weakness was his gluttony. He relied on his minions alone to bring him sustenance.
Alright, I just did the fight myself. This thing is totally Mordremoth. It looks like what he would speak like, speaks as Mordremoth, is referred to Mordremoth several times throughout the fight, and in NPC dialogue prior to it, etc.
Giving a voice to Mordremoth was a mistake IMO. Zhaitan never spoke to you and that was awesome IMO because it underlined its otherness from regular beings, it seemed beyond our mortal views, as an eternal like him should be.
The final battle was anticlimactic but mostly it was very very tedious. I dunno who at ANet decided to give the mobs so much hp and toughness, but it was a horrible ideea. The fights are stupid easy, you can’t die unless you potato bad, but they just take soooo looooong.
We never heard Zhaitan talk because he didn’t have the ability to influence minds directly, and because we didn’t exactly have translators like we did with the Sylvari and Mordremoth. For all we know he had deep philosophical discussions with Tequatl during mid-afternoons.
In regards to the fight, Anet must have had a bit of a conflict between designing a huge-scale epic fight that people wanted but would have felt wrong in the story vs a more intimate conflict that would disappoint. They were quite clever in how they resolved the conflict. You get to fight his body in the open world and his mind in the personal story.
I feel like Anet delivered with the Mouth of Mordremoth. The whole Chinese style dragon/vine thing was kinda clever in my opinion. Story-wise, I think the fight against the Mouth is supposed to take place at the same time as the final story chapter. I was hoping I could get some developer clarification here for wiki editing purposes.
Something I forgot to point out, the shadowy image you see behind Mordremoth’s avatar looks almost exactly like the Mouth.
My questions:
What exactly happened to Rata Novus?
Overrun by Chak. They just picked a really bad place to build a city, like Los Angeles or New Orleans IRL.
My questions:
What exactly happened to Rata Novus?
I know we killed Mordremoth’s mind, but is his body still alive? I mean is there now simply a mindless mess of tentacles and roots that was once inhabited by Modremoth’s mind or did his body also die, somehow?
The Mouth of Mordremoth is his body. You fight it in the Dragon’s Stand meta event.
if we did kill Mordy shouldn’t bad things be happening?
The egg absorbed the magic released upon his death. We’ve yet to see what happens a result, but from what I gather the egg/Glint’s baby is meant to be a giant magic sponge to keep said bad things from happening.
The crybabies are beyond absurd, but I’ll admit that 400 hero points was a little too high. It’s worth noting that these hero challenges are considerably more difficult.
(“Mouth of Mordremoth” is plainly visible in the achievements menu, so I don’t really consider that bit a spoiler)
Now that we’ve played Dragon’s Stand and seen the Mouth of Mordremoth firsthand, there’s a bit of a debate as to its nature. Some people are saying that it’s just a dragon champion, like the Mouth of Zhaitan was. Other people (myself included) are saying that it’s Mordremoth’s head (we know that he has a head of some sort from the LS season 1 ending cinematic). Is either answer correct? Do we have an official answer?
I’ve heard that Marauder gear can be obtained in HoT, and it’s a selectable option for the elite specialization weapon, but I can’t find recipes for Marauder armor. Is it obtainable, and if so, how?
Just talk to the master crafters at the crafting stations!
They sell the recipes for the inscriptions/insignias for karma, just like the other vanilla recipes.
Crusader stats are also available.
Ah, thanks. I had assumed that it was bought from one of the mastery vendors.

I cannot fathom why people don’t want to play the game they paid 50 bucks for. Take your time, savor the content, and remember that it’s not a race. Masteries are account-wide, so you only have to obtain them once. People cried for difficult PvE content for two years, now they have it and they won’t stop whining about it taking time.
They’re asking for the classes to be unlocked right from the get-go so they can play a new way and experience the game in a new way, WHILE devouring the new content. They aren’t begging for free legendaries, or to immediately have access to everything, even though it’d be nice to not grind through weeks of bullcrap just to actually see the raids that they’ve been teasing us all with.
The class itself doesn’t take a whole lot to unlock. I have enough points on almost all my alts without even trying. Unlock the base class, equip it, and enjoy the feeling of getting stronger as you complete hero challenges.

It’s almost like it’s one big massive multiplayer game played online!
Congrats on getting the job done so quickly, after 1 day. So now the Maguuma Wastes are like the leftover toxic creatures in Kessex Hills. Pointless. Only reason I got HoT was to see the story continue, like what happens to our mother, the Pale Tree, I see the egg Caithe took. Should’ve just waited for videos like this and bought FFXIV’s Heavensward, where I could fly on a gorgeous dragon. An F for storytelling Anet.
There’s a whole Living World Season 3 after this. Ending cutscene is already setting the plot up. We’ll get to see the fallout, don’t worry
A lot of the criticisms of the maps themselves are grossly overblown in my opinion, but this looks pretty awful
Do we get to see Mordremoth’s actual body in Dragon’s Stand?
Before rushing to judgement, bear in mind that a massive chunk of the player population is off in PvE, doing the new content. Wait a week or two before deciding that roaming is dead.
Just made my way to the last map to get a good look at it. How does it work precisely? Is the Mouth of Mordremoth actually Mordremoth or just a minion? Has anybody beaten it yet? Any pics?
