Well sushi All i can say is no mmo starts with 100’s of pvp maps. It will take them time so until then you should just figure out how to play the balance issues in your favor. or do like i say in an article a while back create an all ranger guild and impersonate team rocket.
Yes obviously WoW does have quite a bit of development time under its belt. Which is why I’m being lenient on GW2. However WoW (other MMOs as well) did ship with varied objective based maps aka CTF, Siege (you could argue WvWvW fills that niche pretty well) and yes the 3 cap nodes.
why dont you and your friends help your server win in WvW? I mean thats really what the end game is. Guild Wars = pvp.
Which is why I have so such high hopes for this game (notice I said ‘have’ and not ‘had’. I am a PvPer. And I know Guild Wars 1 had a reputation of being a popular pvp game. So I figured, “Guild Wars 2 is going to be the game for me.” So here we are 4 maps that all have the same objective. That all play out the same, kill cap node rinse and repeat. Class balance is still a mess. Still fun none the less to mess around in.
WvWvW. I love doing this but since I’m not part of a huge group that does it all the time (aka wvwvwv guilds) I don’t enjoy doing it with only 3-4 IRL friends for extended periods of times.
I think the issue is because most people are used to gearing up for somekind of content in other MMOs. However GW2 literally has no endgame. None. The only thing you have to do is 100 percent the map OR go for a legendary. You can grind for gear but for what? Just to look cool?
Most people were disappointed by the lack of actual content to complete at level 80.
I know this is a kinda crazy idea but why not have a life whilst you play a game on the side? You say GW2 has no endgame, WRONG. The whole game is endgame. Designed to be fun from lvl 1. I wonder what makes running the same dungeon dozens and dozens of times= a fix to GW2? To actually think that is completely asinine.
Uhh can’t believe you just said, “Get a life.” really we are back to petty insults? I’ve been playing since the BWE and it took me approximately 2-3 months to hit 80 because I was taking my sweet sweet time. I’m going to the military pretty soon so when I get back to playing after 2 months I’ll expect to see some changes (hopfully balance and bug fixes).
Level in this game was a blast. But the thread isn’t about leveling, its about endgame. To say the entire leveling system is the endgame thats silly. That means whenever I hit 80 I beat the game? No. It was just a cleaver way for Anet to avoid any talk about what the have going on or such. Like I said I’m being patient and waiting to see what Anet offers. I want this game to succeed SOOOOO MUCH since I’ve been waiting years for this to come out. It just kinda meh when my friends and I get together and we are like, “what do we do today? Fractals? Naw we just did that yesterday? No need to do TA again since we got the gear from there. AC? (its a joke cause we hate doing that one).” So we go PvP for like an hour then move on to a different game.

there is a lot of content in the game.
thats your endgame.
they will also add more. and pvp and wvwvw will get polished.
thats your endgame.
(until they gave in to the hardcore endgamers; fractals for you guys, best loot and endless!!! have fun)
For the record I did in fact play WoW. Not for the PvE mind you. I wasn’t in to the ‘wail on this guy for and hour with a chance of not even getting loot’. I did the PvP. I would do the same here but I am waiting for more varied objective maps and better balancing. I’m being patient with Anet cause I’m definitely not throwing the game to the side just yet (I mean geezus its free).
I have just recently hit 80. I find your post great. There is still plenty to do. i have only 175 or so hearts completed. Between that and all the other dungeons and exp modes i still have months of content. The best part is I am not paying so if i get bored i just need a break and come back in a couple of days.
Doing hearts falls under the ‘100 percent the map’ category. Yes there are exploratory dungeons, which is another way to get gear. I’ve done a few and found them okay. Fractals I actually had fun with. (Friggin mossman) But none of that content is restricted to 80s (although some people think it is but thats for a different thread). Thus I don’t really consider it ‘endgame’ which would explain what Anet was talking about.
Also I can only do the same 4 capture the node maps for so long. (CTF or something else PLEASE). And WvWvW for me is just a place to mess around in. I useually stop if I die then have to run across the map again.

…Can we get name changes next?
Honestly not sure what Anet was thinking when they made this ability because its basically an instant win button anytime I’m fighting as/against a Mesmer. It bugs me because my friend who plays Mesmer acts all high and mighty since hes ‘the 1v1 god’ even though I destroy him whenever his Moa isn’t up.
Question is how do I counter it? If such thing exists.

Does anyone else get annoyed with this? Your clearing out mobs one at a time because well if you took on anymore you’d prolly die (this is an issue on my Ele and Thief btw (not lv 80)), so you killing them off one by one, not facerolling them mind you, then whenever you get close to clearing them out BOOM all those previous mobs respawn then all aggro to you.
I cannot tell you have many times this has happened when I’m trying to solo an event or skill point. I know my friends and I both have this issue, I feel like Anet expects us to be clearing mobs at a warriors rate or something. NOTE: IM NOT TALKING LEVEL 80
So do you guys think the mob respawn timer is too short?
So I’ve been toying around with some builds and so far in PuGs I’ve been enjoying myself with pistol/pistol.
http://www.gw2builds.org/create/bwe_1/thief#1.1.3.0-3.8.7.14.2-20.30.0.0.20-11.2.13.12.5.12.11
I have shortbow there basically for mobility purposes.
I’m using Runes of Divinity, I have Sigil of Superior Ice on my MH and Force on my OH, and Beserkers Amulet with the Beserkers gem in it.
So far I’ve been able to easily kite people around with the caltrop dodge and most ranged fights I can win easily with the blinds.
Just wanted to know if theres any actual competitive pistol/pistol builds that work for both pvp/pve?

Is Anet planning on adding this at some point? Even if it was a couple bucks I wouldn’t mind I just want to be able to change my Asuras pink hair… geez what was I thinking.
I’ll warn you now that I’m going to be dropping the word ‘WoW’ in this so just be warned.
Lemme start by saying I’ve been waiting for this game for a year and a half. It started whenever I saw TotalBiscut cover a very early version of this game at Gamescom. When I saw this game I was like, “Wow this game looks friggin amazing!” Not doubt it is/was. When I played in the BWE events I was so excited and impressed with everything going on. The questing was great, pvp was fun, everything was going awesome.
Fast forward to release, game comes out and my friends and I are playing non stop having a blast. We are like, “This games got nothing on WoW.” So we level and level but as time goes on I fall behind around the 50s region because I wanted to play some other games. Meanwhile my friends all hit 70/80. So I come back from time to time gaining a single level and then logging off just because I’m bored.
Why?
Questing feels like a chore now, the population has dropped in areas so its near impossible to do some of the group quests, and the biggest reason is I’m too anxious to do my personal story mission but I can’t because the current leveling speed is far behind the story required levels. Also I’ve run out of hearts in my leveling zones thus forcing me to go back to lower areas and 100% them. None of it is fun to me, just feels like a chore since I have sprint my way back and forth across areas.
I talked my friend about whats what around 80s. He said honestly theres nothing to look forward to. Just endless grind for gear thats near useless since theres zero endgame content. He said the last dragon boss was the easiest out of all the dragons that are already a joke to fight since there is no fear of failure.
After hearing that I just said to myself, “Whats the point of leveling then?” This game prides itself on having open world raids and such but its near impossible to get any true challenge since there is no holy trinity or organization for that matter.
I don’t want to use the world casual to describe this game but thats exactly what it is. There is really no appeal to the hardcore MMORPG player in this game. Theres no raiding content, spvp is a mess which I don’t really see taking off as an E-Sport anytime soon. Definitely not like GW1 pvp. Dungeons are just a mindless zerg fest that is apparently dominated by Warrior/Guardian only groups. Yea I got kicked from a group because I was a Elementalist. Was I mad? No. Because they said why would we take you when we can get a Guardian that has way more survivability and healing? So I figured that made sense and I just moved on. But I digress.
I’ve tried really hard to sit down and just quest just so I can hit the cap, but I can’t. I just get so bored of running back and forth trying to search for that last Point of Interest. Theres no endgame in this game. I don’t think there ever will be (at least on a WoW standard of raiding a such) just because there is no Holy Trinity. They pushed that as there main marketing thing. But now that I look at it, its really working against them. They can’t bring order to this game at all, it will be forever just a zerg fest. The comboing system is near pointless, cool on paper but execution was poor.
I really thought this would be my messiah for MMORPGs but I can’t keep to it since it caters to such a casual audience. Again I don’t mean casual as an insult but in a game where theres little to no incentive to hit max level I can’t find my self playing this game long term like WoW.
Of course I’ll keeping playing from time to time but I’ll really only be playing SPvP since thats the only part that interests me.
The search continues.
Just finally did it, honestly I stuck in fire attune this time and just bursted everything down.
Goes to show attunment dancing can be a bad thing at times.
How do you guys deal with these guys? I’m level 50 and my next story quest I have to fight a bunch of Risen in Lions Arch.
Everytime they spawn I immediately get downed because I had to blow all my cool downs trying to kite the kitten people.
I’ve been running S/D (20/10/0/10/0) and its been effective against everything kiting wise. They just straight up run faster than me.
All the other times I’ve fought risen my Ranger friend was with me. Now that I’m by myself I get overrun.
It makes me laugh whenever people say Ele has a high skill cap. It might but really it only differs whether you are useless or mediocre. High skill cap is something that should be rewarded but instead we are rewarded with mediocre damage and forced to run most (if not all) our cantrips so we don’t get blown up right away.
@Wulfrim
Yes we do have a very high survivability when you spec into that however that doesn’t help any if you can’t do the damage. All you are then is just an annoying Ele that just doesn’t die right away.
Are you honestly saying you just cant kill people in sPvp? How do you think a guardian does it? Their dps is lower than ours even if we go tanky but they are persistant. Other classes can’t heal as effectively as a elementalist can so we outlast them. Apply your burns, your bleeds, your constant poking and he will fall before you. Not every fight is three seconds long nor should any fight ever be three seconds long but there isn’t anyone I can’t kill. Especially with burning. Burning reduces their healing by 50%. All those classes that only have one skill that heals them get destroyed. Especially thief. Fire 5 spikes for a lot of damage if it crits. I assure you I’ve never ran into someone I couldn’t kill because my damage wasn’t enough to beat their healing cooldowns. Not to mention the fact that they CANT run away from a D/D Ele. We have three charges, a root, two slows, two breath attacks, two knockdowns and other things that make escaping impossible.
I’m not saying I can’t kill people 1v1. Normally I can, however I can do it faster and easier with other classes. I really don’t think Guardians have a lower damage output especially when you go Greatsword. I think the only class that MIGHT have a lower damage output would be Necro but thats because they are condition damage.
The only classes that actually give me trouble are Engineers (highly underrated if you ask me), Mesmers (who doesnt?), and Ranger that knows where there doing.
We have some of the best o snap buttons in the game, and we do have the potential to be good once we get somekind of rework because quite frankly I agree with the people who say this class in sPvP is too high of a skill cap for the little reward we get.
@Wulfrim

First of all, I love the elementalist. I love the play style, love the attunment switching, love having double the amount of abilities to work with than the other classes. I love them.
I’ve been on and off trying to level my Elementalist but I’m honestly not to interested in PvE. I’m a BIG BIG pvp’r so I spend most of my time in the mists doing sPvP. I’m usually running a semi tanky D/D build because going glass cannon pretty much means instant death. I love how D/D plays. The knock downs, switching attuments to get your combos to proc. But it pains me to see the damage numbers I’m putting out. The highest I ever hit is like a 3k-4k with my Churning Earth (thats it right?) which has an enormous cast time. It wouldn’t bother me as much however I also have a Thief, Warrior, Mesmer, and a Guardian whom I’ve toyed around in PvP with who put up much higher numbers with much less effort. Which is a common complaint amongst sPvP eles.
Even through all of this I always just tell myself, “Don’t worry you’ll get a buff soon then maybe you’ll be the next OP class and then it’ll all be worth it.” But I haven’t seen Anet address any of these issues. I don’t know why I didn’t see this from BWEs. I read that the Ele’s got nerfed before the game went live? Maybe thats why I had such a blast pvping then. Now I just cringe whenever I play sPvP. When I’m leveling I’m having such a fun time and enjoy Ele, but when I start sPvP I’m just like, “kitten this I’m rerolling.” But then that little voice in the back of my head starts up again, “Hey man just man up and stick it out till those buffs arrive man you can do it, besides don’t you want that kick kitten armor Zojja is waring? Plus you don’t wanna have to level up and build your dye library thing again right?”
FML.
My friend and I are huge pvp’rs (thats a big reason we got into this game) and we started talking about World of Warcraft. We both quit about a year almost 2 years ago, (shortly after Cataclysm), however we both started getting on the subject of Arena. Him and I both loved doing Arena pvp. It was tense, organized, and most importantly just flat out fun.
We speculated if Anet would think about adding such a system in the future. Granted not everyone loved the Arena however I honestly think adding 2v2s, 3s, etc would work VERY well in this game. Seeing as how theres no healers or tanks and most fights would be completely skill based. Plus in my own opinion, it would make for a much better e-sport. Honestly right now the Battlegrounds they have now are very bland since all of them are 3 point cap. No CTF, Seiges (I guess WvWvW is for that) but mainly no CTF. But I digress.
Anyone else feel like an Arena system would be great to see in the future?
I want Zojja’s armor honestly. Kinda the whole reason I rolled an Ele.
Hi I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good sPvP D/D builds for the Ele? Right now I’m running a crit build but I wanted to see what Tourney players are using. Possibly something with a little more survivability.
I would go S/D since I see that a lot more but I honestly don’t like that play style for PvP I prefer the more in your face type stuff.
Lmfao, that was hilarious, even if it was quite untrue.
For the sake of pointing it out, Heartseeker was nerfed on the 14th of September. Also, the Thief has the second lowest health pool in the game, only slightly above Elementalist, which when combined with medium armour, makes them one of the squishiest classes in the game.
Come on man you have to say this is a little bit true. While we Ele’s work ourkitten off to get a lil bit of damage Thieves and all the other classes can do the same damage if not more with less effort.
Anet really needs to address this.
Definitely am wondering the same thing, TONS of names I want but can’t because of the same error message.
