Well, I expressed severe dissatisfaction with GW2 when it came out, disappointment with the direction I saw the game heading. I was attacked by all brands of defensive fanboy-ism (humorously, mostly from people whose GW introduction was GW2. Myself, I’ve been around since the first few days of GW1).

Seeing all the various disrespect the company seems to have for its fanbase, the cashing in…nickle and dime-ing (and quartering and dollaring), etc etc.
Well, sucks to see an IP I loved go down the tubes as a mediocre, microtransaction piggy bank for the company.

I feel vindicated at least.

(….guild halls finally. Hmm, wonder how many hundreds of gems they will cost.)

I’m pretty sure it’s been all but confirmed that you will earn Guild Halls through events or something of the sort. I highly, highly doubt they will involve gems.

Honestly, boo hoo. Even if ANet slips up here and there and messes up prices, they’re still doing better than some other companies and compared to how some devs are acting, they’re saintly. Be thankful that they chose to support the game with microtransactions for purely cosmetic or utility-based things that don’t effect actual gameplay at all rather than making it P2W or giving it a sub fee. Microtransactions are not the root of all evil in the world.

Before you whine about gold buying: People would do that through black market gold traders anyway, having a conversion method wards that off. Besides, gems to gold isn’t that super effective anyway.

Hmm, I don’t think I said anything about gold buying.

And of course, this is a video game, so all things are cosmetic, frivolous, whatever. So I suppose my point is less directed at the idea of “transactions” for content (I will gladly pay fair prices for adequate content) and more at the “micro” portion. The nickle and dime model they have adopted. Much of the content added as LS content feels a lot like it should have just been in the game to begin with. Likewise, a lot of the gem content feels the same way. Sure, some are pretty legit purchases (extra character slots for example). Well, in any event, what is in the store rarely piques my interest anyway…but their attitude seems to carry over to how the base/expansions are handled as well. The game so far has been hard pressed to keep my interest over sustained periods of time…mostly just holidays…that, and when I get anet emails (like what brought me here today). LS content is also completely banal as far as I’m concerned. Story was underdeveloped, lost my interest, and the rest of the game feels like a scavenger hunt….fill up your wardrobe with skins and versions and such.

I don’t know, It’s just not enticed me to want to buy an expansion…especially one that appears as if it is going to be relatively pricy.

I never have used real cash to purchase stuff in game and I never will.
Probably won’t buy any expansions if they come out either. I’m not
out to rag on the game, I mean…it’s fine?
I guess it’s just not up to the standard to keep me interested like it’s
predecessor was (more like a namesake, they really aren’t very similar).

The gemstore and the living world content factor into that. It’s just no
fun to have to play content on their time (living world stuff) or to
have limited access to a great deal of content (gemstore), especially
when I shell out $60 for a game. If that’s not enough, and you have to
continue squeezing for more…well, I’m sorry, you’re just pushing me away.
Better than subscription gaming I guess. Still, given the other game choices
I have, GW2 is probably the end of the line for me and Anet/NCsoft.
There’s just other stuff out there that’s a better value, and where I’m
not constantly begged for more money.

Anyway, that’s my take on gemstore in general, and I suppose, the living story
patches like Tower of Nightmares.
I don’t think the companies are greedy, they just see an opportunity and they’re
going after it. But, its just not for me. Others maybe, but not me.

So…

You don’t like men being treated the way women have been for decades in most media and video games, you don’t like the fact GW2 favors portraying women in important roles rather than men, and you think this is a issue that needs to be fixed or “balanced”?

So…

By the token of “the best thing to fix inequality is to reverse the trends of the past” you would think that the military (the US one at least) should be all women…women who should all sign up for the draft. Thousands of other example…media and games being some of them.

Equality is not built on vengeance. (“men being treated the way women have been for decades”)

As to GW2, the most serious offense is that all the characters seem relatively shallow and boring. There certainly seem to be more prominent women than men however. As someone who tries not to make too much of a deal of sex, I’d be likely to ignore it if I didn’t see so many people making comments like yours above.

I finally got it on another go. I just went ahead and switched to normal mode. I don’t know if that had anything to do with it or not.

I can’t get it to work either. I don’t know if it’s a bug or I’m just missing something (I did die once).
I followed a guide and then did a thorough search myself….so I have no idea.

Can it no longer be done in infantile?

Anyway, followed Dulfy’s guide for safe measure and then
went ahead an scoured everything myself. Still not working.

So anyone else still having trouble?

I find it insulting the way all these people are bashing these crafter people. I know that functionally, it is pointless, they don’t receive anything for unlocking all the recipes, but it’s a legitimate aspect to their game experience, and some people here are being humongous jerks about it. I’d think if any game community would be accepting of people who are somewhat OCD it would be one like this. Guess not.

You don’t have to feel like it’s a problem for you, but don’t pretend like it isn’t a problem for them.

Why was lore presented so poorly in GW2?

Sushihammer.4813

Another thing that confuses me is that they have a lot of leftover lore from GW1, like the Mursaat, Palawa Joko, the Tengu, Order of Whispers, etc.

Palawa Joko would have been an amazing ally/lacky for Zhaitan! And there seem to be Tengu in the game already.

I suppose it’s possible they are saving some of this lore for future updates/expansions. I guess I’ll have to hope they’re keeping their really good cards in hand.

. It was an entirely humans-centered storyline.

I would have been very content to still have humans as the only playable characters. I remember way back when I first heard GW2 would have multiple playable races and thinking “Oh great, that means X number of functionally identical themed areas.” Sure enough, five cities and Lions Arch. There’s not anything specifically bad about that, except that it’s emblematic of the issue…creating five copies of everything takes resources, and when it’s done in storytelling, it’s devastatingly detrimental (in my opinion). Without it, we could have had a storyline five times as long or five times as detailed…whatever.
In GW1, I actually read all those text boxes and watched those cutscenes. They really did, 85% of the time, provide interesting information that added some weight to the story. In GW2, I’m to the point I don’t ever care to sift through the 3-4 minute cutscene to find the two or three sentences that add anything useful to the story, and much of that is repeated “cliche” information (“Charr are violent. Cool, now what else about them?” “Asura are smart. Ok, then what?”). Add on top of that, all the LS content which just feels tacked on there.

In short, I wanted intricate diorama, I got schizophrenic collage.

Isn't it rather sad....

Army FPS would be overkill. It could just be a SWAT commando in full riot gear. They should absolutely add that to GW2.

What bothers me is things like… being able to create 1 piece of charged quartz per day.

The key difference here is that I cannot put any extra work into this. It’s literally about nothing but the passage of time. If that’s the direction this game is headed in, I want to know about it as soon as possible, because I’ll go and play something where my progress reflects the effort I put in.

And by the time you get that much time put in, it’s probably not even worth it, because a year from now, I’m sure they’ll have double-triply ascended gear.

That’s an additional problem between gear stat creep (new gear coming out every few months) and time gated content. Why bother getting the time gated stuff if better stuff will surely be around in a few months anyway.

Slap in the face with the next week LS.

I love the game but would like to see more seriousness to the world and the lore.

I get that. Honestly, I feel like the whole game is getting, or even started out, too cartoon-y for me. I come back every so often to see if it’s got some interesting (read “serious”) stuff going on (SAB is next, so, no I guess). I even played a fair amount of the recent living story content because it felt more important to the game than the actual storyline. Ha.

I guess it’s hard to play a hero when nothing going on feels all that dramatic, important, or heroic. Surrounded by nearly one dimensionally violent charr who, for some reason, are wearing fluffy backpacks and firing unicorn weapons…inescapable, of course, as the world is open. I stop caring about the story and all I’m left with is a gear grab. eh.

I just feel like the lore is weak, even into the actual storyline. I really wanted something that had some sort of meaningful connection to the original Guild Wars, which I felt was excellent. I suppose it is meant to, but it sure doesn’t feel all that connected to me.. At best, it’s sort of a caricature. It’s a finely made game to be sure, and people love it, but it went in a way that’s lost me personally. Of course, I bought it sight….uh, unplayed, so you win this round A-Net. I’ll have to keep looking for the stuff that interests me in it.

So the Ascended weapons arrive

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Sushihammer.4813

Sorry but ascended weaponry will be a requirement if you don’t wanna lag behind others in WvW… It’s already bad enough you can feel slightly hampered being in exotic trinkets if your enemy has ascendeds… Imagine if the gap is enlarged by weapons as well which are the biggest chunk of effectiveness when it comes to gear.

I have eight characters with multiple weapon sets. Even if I were to fork over 50 bucks for enough transmutation crystals to keep their looks (which I’m not happy about), the time-gating component means that it’s going to take an eternity just to get my characters up to par again.

What about this was supposed to be fun, exactly?

That’s why I stopped worrying about stat maxing a long time ago.

That seems to be a common thread in elementalist stories. I keep hearing that the elementalist is some sort of mystical powerhouse, but in all my hundreds of hours of playing one, I have yet to see evidence of it. Meanwhile, I watch warriors doing stuff with no respec and no strategy and they get it on their first go.

I have too much elementalist pride (and only a level 31 warrior) so if I can’t beat it eventually, I’ll just forget about it. Just a mini and a few gold.

Finally beat Salazan. Turns out if you spec for bleeding and conditional through earth and then auto attack with E1 while devoting all attention to not stepping in fire, it’s very, very easy (Didn’t even take a point of damage!).

These pirates, it seems, much less gimmicky than other matches. I can either live and time out or do damage but not survive long enough to deal it all out. I can’t seem to find a balance though.

Any elementalist have advice for another elementalist.

Use your knockdowns whenever you can. Chill and daze are helpful. Armor of Earth is very useful. Stay as close to the edge as you can, you get hit less it seems. I was having a terrible time beating her, but someone told me to stand near the edge and I got it first time I tried that.

I picked Kiel because the WP money saved, however unimportant, is still massively more useful BLC keys. The only thing I will ever purchase from the gemstore is character slots, and I’ll do it with in game gold.

And fractals, well, I don’ care at all about those. Most people who do fractals all day are farmers anyway, so I know they aren’t worried about repeating the same areas over and over again.

No new long-term content since November?

Sushihammer.4813

First, you can’t say something like “no new content,” then be proven wrong (guild missions, new pvp map) and then say “guild content doesn’t count.” For many, guild missions are a huge (and extremely positive) addition to the game. It sorta invalidates the argument.

Second, there is another, very big, permanent addition to the game – the Living Story itself. While much of the individual content itself is fleeting, the story itself is ever present (and changing). As long as they are able to keep the momentum going – and the content enticing (which many think they are) – then this is a great use of development resources.

Those are your opinions, which you are entitled to. Clearly though, a significant number of others do not share that opinion.
There’s no valid or invalid about it, since these are all peoples personal opinions on what constitutes interesting or valuable content.

No new long-term content since November?

in Living World

Sushihammer.4813

I actually haven’t played in a long while because the temporary content is annoying. If I’m going to play a game, it’s going to be on my time, not some sort of temporary schedule.

Not being on all the time regularly means I’ll miss stuff.
Therefore, I can plan on missing most of the new content, which as it seems, will
be temporary for the foreseeable future.

So, if I know I’m going to be missing most of any new content they put out, well, I’m not even really very interested in ever bothering to log on to check any of the temporary stuff out, even when I am able to.

It was a design plan meant to make players more interested, and really, all it’s done to me is make me less interested.

I know my opinion doesn’t have any weight, I mean, I already bought the game so Anet doesn’t care. I know I’ll be waiting several months to decide instead of pre-ordering though if a GW3 ever comes around.
