Spectral Walk all the time. Spectral Armor’s 6 second of protection and the 90 second cooldown make it so that Spectral Walk is simply better in all aspects. If it were Stability+Protection Armor could be worth it but as it is now, Walk is simply better.
You forgot:
*The only profession that requires a Grandmaster Trait to get Stability
*The only profession that doesnt have access to any blocking or evasion skills
If I recall correctly, there was a kittening huge kittenstorm that happened because the so called class liason for hunters was a total and utter noob. The guy didnt listen to the complaints of the forums just because he thought the class was completely fine, and hunter really was not fine back then.
And I think the same thing would happen here with ANet and Necromancer, ANet has shown time and time again that they do not care about Necromancer at all so of course they would point someone who has no idea what they are doing.
@Softspoken, yes you can. Fear is both a condition and a “stun.” You can remove fear from ally with condition removal or a feared target can use a stunbreaker to get out of it. Fear is much weaker than any other stun because of it.
Also, Necros can only increase the duration of fear by 50% with 20 pointer in Soul Reaping.
For a Necro Staff is a necessity. A build without a Staff is really bad, there is no reason to go without one.
Unfortunately as it currently stands, people have started going the way of “LFXM need guardian, warrior, thief or anything besides Rangers and Necromancers.” I believe that it’s all the result of abolishing the holy trinity and forcing every class to fight with each other for viability.
So in short to answer: Don’t be a necromancer. And your signature pretty much captures that whole thing in essence. “Anything a Necro can do, other classes can do better”
If you want an experience like GW1 Necro, you would get it better from Mesmer. (Sounds a bit crazy right?) Mesmer clones and phantasms are much closer to the minions of GW1 and also actually useful unlike the Necromancer minions, the minion AI is horrible and they really dont have much of an impact.
Hexes are gone and pretty much all that Necro anti-melee and Mesmer anti-caster hexing were smashed together and into Confusion, to which Necromancers have ZERO access besides Spectral Wall+Staff auto (The magnificent 20% physical projectile finisher chance).
Lifestealing or Siphoning as it is now called is not viable for Necromancers at all. The amount you siphon per attack is 29 and can be increased to something above 30 with a trait. Oh and in order to get the siphon you need to spend 15 points to a single Traitline.
Necromancers arent even the best at conditions, all Necromancers have that others cant do is Epidemic and lolmasterdsandyoullbefine.
I pretty much knew that no one would even want Necros into Fractals so I didnt, and wont, bother with them until there is something more to us than “lol just master DS and you’ll be fine”
Unfortunately Necros have no ways of negating any damage they receive , and no using DS isnt negating damage. Dodging(Vigor is required to do it properly), blocking, stunlocking etc. are all negating damage and Necros have none. It’s just the way ANet unfortunately designed Necros.
We cant kill fast enough to not receive damage like Thiefs and Warriors for example, and we cant negate the damage either like everyone. ANet might think that conditions like Blind, Weakness etc. are the replacement but they suck kitten in reality.
Wells belong into power builds: Scepter has really no place to go with wells and you need Epidemic with any Scepter build. Going Bloodthirst instead of Mark of Evasion is just pure madness. Also it does not have Staff
Overall, a terrible build. Only good about it really is Lingering Curse and the Scepter+Dagger set.
@PinCushion, actually it’s +2 Vulnerability on Life Blast
Really, only thing Necros have going on for them regarding Conditions is Epidemic. That’s it. Others are better at applying conditions, they have better damaging conditions like Burning and also better direct damage on top of the conditions.
I noticed they have changed Spectral Walk slightly so that it will bring you back to the location you started from no matter what, so that’s good.
Now, now shizo. We dont want to be walking with 100 might all the time, that would be OP
What? You though anyone but Mesmers, Thiefs, Warriors and Guardians are allowed to have fun and working builds?
The Demonic Spirit, only if you want the forum moderators to close the thread for calling out devs because that appearantly is forbidden
Golem always gave Stability to himself while charging. Also my guess would be that they just fixed some tooltip bug
Arianna here is a guideline: If it’s helpful for Necros, it’s a bug. If it screws Necros up, it’s a feature(See minions+Lich/Plague/Moa)
Laughable really. Not fixing minion AI, nerfing Lich even though it is complete and utter kitten already, removing the blase finisher from Mark of Evasion nad not give anything back, buffing an unusable healing skill which is unusable because of minion AI.
Soul Marks doesnt give 3% Life Force per enemy hit, it just gives flat 3% when a mark activates, so it would bring it to 8% Life Force on activate.
Chilling Darkness doesnt affect Blinding Plague.
The minion has to cast it, and it is as good for making minions attack something as any other ability you have. There simply is no way around their kitteny AI
It isnt instant. It has a very long windup time
Well atleast in GW1 they actually could kill that Skelk and make you wonder “Huh, where did I get that little xp from?” Now it is more like “NONONONO dont touch that! It will ki- SPLAT -ll you…”
On hit means when you are hit
“Oh man, those necros sure can make it living hell for anyone if they get their stuff rolling. Just taking damage by attacking casting like back in GW1. Good thing they dont also have really good expendable minions that do huge damage and also can survive so much”
…something sounds familiar
We have Signets?
I do use Spectral Wall, it is a good way to get Protection and quick Vulnerability stacks as it puts 10 everytime enemy goes through it. Only thing wrong with it is that the Etheral field is placed on top of necromancer not where the wall is and that the Protection/Vulnerability part is also a bit off from the visual point
I dont even want to call them minions anymore, I have been playing GW1 for the HoM points lately and with proper minions, elite skills that dont feel like ultimates in AoS-games and instead are something you build around(Even the short CD elites in GW1 feel more powerful than any Elite in GW2)
Necromancer with minions is supposed to be handling an army, not housepets. It would be much better if the minions did degenerate and were bound to a weapon with utility skills to heal/boost/etc. them and the max amount of minions at same time would be like X+lvl/Y.
My guess is that it is bugged like the rest of the hp things with DS. DS makes the game think you are at 0 main hp because it used to be the downed state of Necromancers. Silly copy pasta’d mechanics are silly
Agreed with Berullos, I think that other weapons besides Staff are just awful. I see myself having Staff+Death Shroud and nothing more. Sure, I have a Warhorn as a backup interrupt on the other set but most of the time I spent laying marks and jumpin in and out of Death Shroud to shoot off a couple of Life Blasts.
When Flesh Golem is slowed by X%, the charge distance is reduced by that same amount
ALL of the minions aggro on their own. They do not follow the whim of Necromancers at all, they randomly attack and most of the time the things we do not want to. The AI isnt problematic only with Jaggeds but with ALL of them
The Etheral field of Spectral Wall is placed on top of the necromancer that casts it instead of where the wall is
We do not have pets, we have abilities to summon cheerleaders for the Risen.
So, if you are thinking of quitting, what would have to be in the next patch to change your mind?

Proper melee weapon with finishers, increased finishers overall and overall QoL-improvements. These QoL-improvements would include buffs to Staff 1 so it would be usable, rearranging and buffing of traits to make sense
I have tested charge with Rune of Lyssa and it works sometimes and sometimes not. What I noticed is that if you are interrupted during your own animation (when you point at someone) but the command has already gone and Golem charges, it doesnt activate the rune even though the ability goes on CD
@Arolas Look at his skills, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Caladbolg.
Twilight Crash = Illusionary Wave Mesmer
Maelstorm Strike = Whirling Wrath Guardian
Electrolyze = Chain Lightning Elementalist
Skyfall = Backbreaker Warrior
Necromancers have no access to anything like those so… not only is he a Guardian/Mesmer but a Guardian/Mesmer/Warrior/Elementalist
Trahearne might have been a Necromancer, but he switched classes when he got that sword and became a Mesmer/Guardian. I guess someone forgot to told him that there are no secondary classes in GW2.
@silvershadez Transfusion only affects Life Trasfer, the Death Shroud #4 skills. Nothing else
There really is no choice when it comes to Stun Breakers on Necromancer, you either go Spectral Walk or you go home. Spectral Armor is too long CD and has kitteny effect and Plague Signet is bugged beyond all hells.
Well then. Having two of same main-hand or off-hand is a waste. The reason you have two sets is to gain access to total of 10 weapon skills. Two main-hand daggers instead of having an axe (which sucks btw) or Scepter means you are making yourself weaker. Not to mention that every Necromancer should have a Staff as backup, there are no cases where you should go without one.
Bloodthirst is a waste of a trait because siphoning does not scale enough in order to be effective, you are better off having Mark Of Evasion or even Vampiric Rituals.
If you want to be able to do something in PvP (for PvE this does not matter) you need a Stun Breaker. You just cannot live without a Stun Breaker in your skillbar.
You have Hemophilia even though you have ONE source of bleeding and it is on 21 1/4 second cooldown. Again another wasted trait.
This is most likely linked to that Death Shroud was originally Necromancer downed state, so the game most likely considers us to be at 0% while in it
You are aware that the staffs and all same weapons share cooldowns right? By going two Staffs you gain nothing, absolutely nothing
It doesnt actually make it into 130%. It makes the 100% Life Force into 130% of your hp instead of just 100%. It will last just as long but it will have more “hp” in it
Well of Power has too long cooldown for it to be considered having the boons. Now if Necros had a low CD utility or weapon skill that transformed conditions into boons on themselves only then perhaps.
The problem is that ANet thinks that flat health and some armor keep people alive, but this is not the case. What is keeping people alive are boons like Stability, Protection, Aegis and Vigor and also blocking/evading skills.
Necromancer is the only class that has no real access to any of those boons or any blocking/evading skills, and Blindness, Chill etc. conditions do not even come near replacing them not to mention that other classes have access to them while having access to the boons, blocks etc.
Hey dont forget that they also changed the descriptions of Plague and Lich Form. Now they actually state that using them will kill all minions
Not soon. In this patch Necro elites Plague and Lich Form got their descriptions changed such a way that they state changing forms will kill minions, a bug that has been reported multiple times was swept under the rug by ANet calling it a feature.
