I always found it disturbing that mobs where immune to being knocked off cliffs. Same thing with the invulnerability they get, when the mobs are on terrain one foot lower than you.
GW2 has nice physics, yet the mobs immunity butchers it. Improve AI instead of giving them immunity, please.

In GW1 the guild I was in always talked with the other guilds in alliance… Rarely was the guild chat used instead of alliance chat. Alliance chat ftw.
Either bring alliances back or make it so you can view all your guild chats.

So he talks about balance in WvW and PvP:

“One of the issues that’s brought up alotta times is the AoE.”

Then he goes on to talk about PvE content:

“Right now especially in dungeons too, if you have a lot of AoE you get through encounters just by spamming AoE, which is not something we obviously want. So that’s something you guys have mentioned, and we definitely know it’s an issue so we’ll definitely be looking at that.”

There’s a couple things I don’t understand:

1. Did people REALLY complain about AoE in PvP/WvW? If so, then could someone please fetch me 5 threads about it prior to the livestream? Shouldn’t be too hard to do since it seems to be a hot topic. I mean, they even mentioned it in the livestream… Sadly I couldn’t find any myself.

2. People whined about balance issues in WvW/PvP. Nothing was said about PvE, so why is he talking about PvE balance?

I agree with OP. The only profession that is fun to me is the Elementalist because I get to interact more with my avatar. The boss fights are sometimes very stale and require zero interaction, you just stand there slashing/shooting at the enemy for 10mins.

I know this will never happen in GW2, but: a combat system where you carefully interpret the enemys moves and ready an attack / defense to counter their move is something that never gets boring. There are a couple MMORPGs where that combat exists, and it’s awesome. Every fight forces you to pay attention to what the enemy is doing even if it’s an easy one. Because if he is using a counter, you can’t just blindly attack or you’re the one getting hurt. Instead you need to use whatever beats that counter.

Also, having profession selection at the character creation is bad. I spent way too much time picking a profession because I didn’t have a clue which ones I liked. Being able to change class whenever you feel like it or just have no class at all is very appealing to me. I really don’t see why more games don’t take that approach. It has more positive than negative things about it, just needs to be designed right. Players who like playing a single character would be very happy, while people who like making alts could still make them. But how is this related to the topic?

I was a bit surprised by what this thread was complaining about… Who cares about the party requirements, when the battle itself was disappointing… Zhaitan was way too easy and he just stood still until he died. He could have at least struggled a bit? I felt sorry for him, just standing there taking the hits… I was expecting him to jump at the ship and bring it down or something. His minions are stronger than him. Those tails were cut off way too easily. C’mon, dragon scale is sturdier than that. I feel disappointed when there are giant monsters, but all they do is stand around as if they were too fat to move. Occasionally pawing at the ground, not even casting overpowered meteor storms or anything. Karka roll would OHKO Zhaitan.

Whatever the next class will be, it better be more like the Elementalist in terms of difficulty and skill use frequency. All the other professions get stale very fast. I won’t keep my hopes up though, or I’ll just be disappointed because the developers/designers have different tastes.
Something with heavy armor and a ton of skills…

I have two things I’m unhappy about in this event:

1. Unbreakable Choir Bell on RNG
2. Choir Bell Ensemble can’t be played with friends without first playing server roulette

I would have also preferred a harder puzzle, but I still like the one we got.

I honestly don’t understand why so many people are saying this JP was too easy, and yet the number of those saying it’s really hard seem few and far inbetween when I see a ton of people attempting it time and time again too. I’ve probably given this at least 100 attempts so far, and I still have yet to make it to the peppermint section.

You don’t understand why it’s too easy? Let me tell you – because I did it on my first try. My sense of achievement was nowhere near that of completing the Clock Tower. Still, it was not a bad puzzle, just easy.

I have been incredibly frustrated by the long wait times and the people who breeze through. (Do they even realise there is a time limit?) There are many who are so good at it they can finish and get back for the next timer, while I have 2 minutes or so of boredom. Personally, I like the idea of it being instanced or reducing the wait time at least. Also having multitudes of people jumping on the same spot is incredibly difficult to deal with so perhaps limiting the overflows to smaller groups could be an option.

Perhaps the people who find this too easy should be happy that they are brilliant jumpers and look at setting their own goals to beating the puzzle whilst the developers acknowledge that not everyone has the latest equipment and fastest internet pings and makes small allowances for us “less brilliant” players who still happen to LOVE jumping puzzles.

The wait time jumps to the end once all players have disappeared from the jumping area. With a few seconds of leeway for the last person to complete to have enough time to get back and start a new round. :P

The best thing I see that could be done here is give two difficulties. Easy, for the people with bad PCs and who just want a reward/achievement and Hard for people who want to retry 100 times and feel awesome after finally completing it. Hard should of course give better rewards, but not something that can’t be gained elsewhere.

For those asking for a harder challenge there IS a hard mode. Go into your video settings and turn your saturation and contrast ALL THE WAY DOWN

Sorry, but you’re going to have to adapt just like everyone else.

Also use all of the shortcuts available without skipping ANY of them, especially the ones at the bottom route. There a few really long jump shortcuts.

How’d you do it? :P I found two possible ways to get up there, though I failed at getting up myself.

That’s the chest area and it is indeed behind the starting platforms. You can stay in there as long as you like.

I’ve been looking forward to the day when we can finally play music. And it’s finally here.

Just one problem, I will probably never get the unbreakable choir bell as it is very rare and the TP cost is way out of my league. So I fear all this fun will be over once this Wintersday ends, at least for a while. I’m hoping this is just the tip of the iceberg for what is to come.

I tried a one-time choir bell which disappeared on me way too soon. Seems it also lacked some polish as it was making unwanted sound effects coming from the player’s mouth and hand movements.

Switching between octaves is still a bit clunky. Maybe give instruments their own set of hotkeys, so the entire keyboard is available for notes, this way switching octaves wouldn’t even be necessary. Alternatively use F1-4 for switching octaves and possibly give an option for triggering octave for when the button is held down.

Alternative: buy 1,000 temp bells (they are cheap).
I kinda doubt you will be able to burn through 1,000 bells in a year.

Indeed, that does seem like a good alternative, except that re-using a bell every 2 minutes is distracting. I would also need more than 1000 bells as 33 hours worth of bells wouldn’t last long.

Regardless, I’m going to keep scoring 600’s in the Choir Bell Ensemble as well as speed-running the Jumping Puzzle and hope I get an Unbreakable one.

I have faith in Arenanet and hope that new and improved instruments will be available for all in the future. I’d love to have a piano or an organ in my future house with my beautiful future lesbian wife and future adopted kids while sitting around our future table eating a delicious future meal together with our future fireplace warming us up and giving us light in the otherwise dark room.

Mini-games and playing with friends

So the Choir Bell Ensemble, Lunatic Inquisition, etc holiday events are all hosted on PvP servers, but you can’t join your friends like you can in sPvP. If I’ve missed some hidden trick or option that allows me to play with my friend, please do tell.

The only option we have to be able to play these mini-games with our friends is to time our joins and hope we get ported to the same server. This is a frustrating and time consuming way to do it. It can easily take up 10 minutes or even 20 minutes of only entering and leaving the mini-game, with no guarantee of ever getting in the same server.

Please, can I play these awesome mini-games with my friends, instead of playing the server roulette?

You can group even as a “solo player”. Just think of everyone else as NPC allies. No words are needed. Being bad with people shouldn’t even matter. Just request party and that’s it.

Even Kirito did a boss with groups while being solo.

The “leader” is the owner of the dungeon, and the owner of the dungeon is the first person to get inside / start the dungeon.

This is a two part question:

1. If you have 33 Choir bells , why do you need the permanent one? Lots of concerts?
2. Secondly, if the answer to question 1 is you’d like to sell the item, then may I humbly suggest a better farm such as FoTM or COF.

Because 33 Choir bells last you only 33 minutes. Not even close enough for “Lots of concerts”. Most who want(keyword) the Unbreakable Bell Choir intent to actually use it instead of selling it.
Some of you seem to not understand that this Unbreakable Bell Choir is a must-have item for anyone who enjoys playing music in games. It is the only reliable way to keep playing music after Wintersday ends. I have been waiting for an item like this to appear since before launch. It will be very game-breaking for me if I don’t get it or another permanent musical instrument.

Scout sniped the enemy carriers. Not too hard to do, but requires dedicated achievement hunger. The gift deliver one was a no-brainer and can be achieved with 5 minutes of playing the objective.

I finished the puzzle on my first try.

My friend is apparently having more trouble with this than the Clock Tower. The snowflakes part always gets her. She has a crappy mouse.

Allow players to hide other player models. This would be a nifty fix without having to resort to private instances.

It’s pretty simple, like in normal dungeons glass cannon builds are a total bust and will only give your teammate headaches imo. Guardians are always great for PuG because they rarely build glass cannon.

I’d say you need atleast 2 ranged for an easier time in some dungeons btw. Besides that a lot of it comes down to knowing your class and how to survive with it, building it right and picking the correct skills when needed. I’ve done major parts of more difficult dungeons with 3 people because we know exactly what to do and what the limits of our class are.

I run glass-cannon Elementalist and I’m the last one down usually. Of course, anything that hits for over 10k one shots me.

The swamp is perfectly fine. Just avoid the traps and have one condition removal and you can do it. The hardest part is picking up all three of them at the same time.

Actually, that is a massively ignorant statement Brewbeer. Most of the combat in this game is rather simplistic. In combat being off by small distances doesn’t matter. General kiting required by 99% of the combat in this game does not require anywhere near the coordination of any of the jumping puzzles, even the “Space+W” as you’d put it.

Did you know you can dodge projectiles by moving out of the way? That requires more coordination than the FotM jumps. I’m not going to even talk about AoE circles, I mean, come on…

Why don’t you guys try getting better at it if you really can not do it. Saying you won’t get better at it is really meh. Take your time, use top-down view, etc.

If you can’t figure out WHY there are people with concerns about jumping puzzles in progression dungeons yet, then I’d assume you have some form of mental disability. Its pretty obvious if you read this thread and just pay attention. Instead you come in and just say “Jumping Puzzles are great” or “Lazy gamers”, but lack any consideration for those people who’d like to play a game with their friends but physically CANNOT complete a them.

Some how ANet managed to built a shut off for the dodge the lightning bars coming down the ramp if three people got past it, but didn’t think to make an equivalent for the jumping puzzles? Very inconsiderate to a very specific set of gamers.

This has nothing to do with jumping puzzles in the open world that don’t provide an advantage to players via gear that cannot be obtained anywhere else. Unlike the fractals which very specifically have gear you cannot get elsewhere.

The OP says he REALLY hates jumping puzzles. I say I love them. It’s wrong (and inconsiderate) to say it because it’s a different opinion?

The FotM jumps are easy. If you can’t do them, I don’t know what to say. Just press W and jump(Some don’t even need a jump, just walk down). I could probably do them blindfolded.
I must have a mental disability because I praise Arenanet for making awesome content while having nothing constructive to say to the people having difficulties with easy jumps, thus only praising Arenanet in my earlier post. Sorry.

I’m loving the jumping puzzles… I love jumping.

Finished Southsun Cove Skipping Stones jumping puzzle a while ago, awesome. Also beat that Champion there. Blue drops, oh well.

Need moar puzzles.

Yup… Shadowlancer, please… You don’t need Agony, not for the first few difficulties of the dungeon anyway. So no – gear is not an issue, and if you only take “full exotics” then you are doing it wrong. Half of the people lie about their gear anyway, according to you.

Dungeons are also supposed to be only doable with a group with good teamwork, so I’d say: a dungeon well done!

Tip: I never join anyone who requests any specific profession or gear. The ability to speak and read English gets you far.

I also got this twice, first time the owner of the dungeon was AFK and weirdly just disappeared while still party info saying he was in the dungeon and as he got back apparently he was still in the dungeon and then got booted out to LA as well. Second time the owner of the dungeon left, then we got kicked out of the dungeon. Please fix.
