Remember there’s no problem to signup now even if you are unsure about 1 player not being able to do it, you can make changes to the roster up to check-in so go go more teams!

Only reason we haven’t signed up is because we haven’t decided on a team name yet!

Honestly community events like this should be stickied somewhere. really hoping this does well, just concerned if enough players will form teams for this since the pool is restricted to non pro players

What would be nice is if a new post was made at the top there.
Or if at least the one that is there listing events was updated.

I’m sure there are many teams not yet signed up but already sorted out.

We just formed a team yesterday and scrimmed two other teams today, all three of which are yet to sign up. Probably more teams in this position at the moment.

I freely admit it yes! I made a single stupid QQ thread complaining about bunker meta, cheese builds and a lack of basic features and argued with Helseth over our opinions at the time. I know you can’t read though but it does say it was 3 YEARS AGO lol. You’ve dug past every single positive post I’ve made in 3 YEARS to find the one single negative post where I was a complete scrub and argued with someone that knows better.

One is a response to disagree and state a difference of opinion, the latter merely makes a statement.

Whether or not we agree or disagree on your use of the English language really doesn’t matter. But unfortunately you chose to focus on that rather than the rest of the contents of my reply : / and well I can see why that is haha, must be embarrassing to be quoted in order to be proved wrong and a liar haha

What does matter is that we both agree that not all the responsibility of creating a competitive scene should rest solely on the shoulders of the players. However, that’s where it is for the moment so why not support what we have rather than whining about it?

However yes, I get your follow up point. I agree, the game would look better to an outsider if the company behind the game ran the events themselves. I never said anything contradictory to this.

2) Auto tournies + ranked team queue + ranked solo /duo + unranked ??? That’s way too many different queues. Do you not see how small our community is? Of course it would be dead.

I was thinking daily / every few days for auto tournies too. Not just weekly. Maybe a weekly/Monthly one that the dailies can qualify you for though.

I’m certainly not “frustrated into thinking” the current system is great, not at all. I pretty much always played as a full team when the old system was in.

The current system is good. We just need a parallel system for teams. Auto-Tournies, other events etc

3) Yes rewards would be great but yes I never said I wanted any more of that either! They really should simplify them. Talk about putting words into mouths! lol

Short Summary Kinda TLDR:
1- A-net needs to support their own game instead of players picking up the pieces.
2- A-net needs to add both ranked team and solo q in the game.
3- A-net needs to add in game organized tournaments for prizes.
4- A-net needs a new game mode that the players actually want.
5- A-net needs to add more build diversity, not meta enforcing power creep to trees.
6- A-net needs needs to avoid heavy handed balance changes from season to season.

1- It would be great if Anet ran smaller, frequent events themselves yes. No one is saying otherwise. It doesn’t mean that there’s any reason for the community not to create these opportunities for ourselves when they aren’t being presented to us by Anet. If people sat around waiting for Nintendo to run Smash events we all know we’d still be waiting…

2- There is no point in adding a Team Queue, it will be dead… Automated tourneys at set times however, have a much better chance of being populated as it focuses the small player base to specific play times to compete. Let’s not pretend we have the player numbers of games like LoL for matchmaking.

3- Yes, adding rewards to these events if they did become a thing would very very likely happen regardless even without community input to ask for it. PvP provides a lot of gold/stuff at the moment, I highly doubt that’ll change back to less rewards and any new system would undoubtedly carry good rewards too.

4- “A new game mode that players actually want.” Like what? I don’t see you or anyone else suggestion any new game modes. I’m pretty sure they’ve tried the classic CTF, KOTH etc etc game types in the past (In house testing). They attempted a new game type SH and look where that ended up. I really don’t think we need any new game types. Especially as it would likely mean spreading an already small player base.

5- The number of viable builds is far higher than I remember it ever being when I was last involved in the scene and I haven’t heard good things about the “tank” meta in the earlier seasons. YOU DON’T have to play meta builds. This is is true of every competitive game. No one is forcing you and unless you’re competing at the top level having an off meta build that you know how to succeed with is fine. I’m not saying anything can be viable, but you certainly don’t need to take the meta builds as the only way of playing the game. Personally I play meta builds and find there to be enough diversity anyway.

6- Honestly I haven’t been around to see every set of patch notes. However I find it hard to believe that they changed their philosophy on balance patching to start doing heavy handed changes. If anything the argument most people make is they are too slow to react to broken and or unpleasant builds. Turret Engi etc. Regardless, far more often than not it is very much possible to play around the “cheese” builds. People should just work on doing that rather than QQ’ing about it on the forums. We don’t need constant posts saying the same things over and over.

In the end, you’ve come off as pretty negative about the idea of the event they are running. Yet spent the time to write a long post about it and bump the thread, so I guess thank you from the community for helping raise awareness of the event?

I think Helseth absolutely hits the nail on the head in the YouTube video linked in his second post, with his hopes and vision for the GW2 competitive scene moving forward.

Solo / Duo and NO Team Queue just has to stay as it is.
What we do need is community run events and or even automated events!
That is a far far better way of providing the full 5v5 team based competitive game.

We used to have them, the Academy Gaming events! Personally I competed in many of those and a few ESL events before I stopped playing like many others around the time of the HoT release, but now I’m back and playing regularly and I’m sure I am far from alone in that.

Helseth briefly mentions Smash is his video and I really do see the similarities and value in having a proper competitive scene. As a Smash4 TO, who has grown a large scene from the ground up over the last year and a half. I know first hand how great grassroots events can be and what they add to the competitive scene and once you have these things and if they are well organised and a lot of effort goes into them, it grows and grows and pulls so many new people in.

no. not only do we need team ques we need team events implemented by anet. the community working hard wont grow it alone. no sane person would become competitive in a rng gameplay like this i understand other games can do it. but those games arent so dependent on your teammates like guild wars is.

I think you pretty much completely missed what I was saying.

We don’t need a team queue but we DO need a place for TEAMS for compete as I mentioned either in community run events or even better automated tournaments which would likely have more teams competing in due to the ease of joining them on a whim.

I’m not saying people will become competitive team players by playing solo and duo, they need the community events and or automated events for that. However as a ranked queue for rating, solo duo is the right system. Solo would of course be the most accurate but playing completely alone is boring.

Why I created these subreddits:

I want to see more competitive teams in the PvP scene and I felt that if I could make it easier for PvP players to network with each other and form teams that would be of great benefit to the scene and the players within it.
So I created these subreddits in order to provide a space for people to post their PvP “looking for” posts, where they won’t be buried by the large amount of PvX, PvE and WvW posts, as the these types of posts are so few and far between.
These subreddits allow the PvP players to view all the posts they are interested in, in one place with ease. It also means that you do not need to worry about bumping your thread to keep it visible.

Answers to questions I’ve previously been asked:

Q – Why not use the “Looking for” section of the forums and /r/GuildRecruitment?

A – The idea with both of these subreddit based tools is that it is really easy to view all the posts that PvP players looking for something are actually interested in seeing. Currently PvP posts from players/teams that are looking for something are so few and far between that they quickly become buried by the much larger PvX community in this game. Here you don’t need to bump your posts and there is a clear format to follow, that makes finding what you are looking for quick and easy.

Q – Won’t this fragment the GW2 PvP reddit community?

A – Neither of these subreddits are designed to foster any sort of community within themselves whatsoever. They both merely function as a place to post non-discussion adverts. These are tools to use, not reddit communities and so I don’t believe that they fragment the discussion space for PvP subjects at all.

A new thread to contain both links and all the information about the subreddits I created to help the PvP players network easier than the current methods and so help the PvP scene grow with more competitive teams in the EU and NA regions.

Why I created these subreddits:

I want to see more competitive teams in the PvP scene and I felt that if I could make it easier for PvP players to network with each other and form teams that would be of great benefit to the scene and the players within it.
So I created these subreddits in order to provide a space for people to post their PvP “looking for” posts, where they won’t be buried by the large amount of PvX, PvE and WvW posts, as the these types of posts are so few and far between.
These subreddits allow the PvP players to view all the posts they are interested in, in one place with ease. It also means that you do not need to worry about bumping your thread to keep it visible.

Answers to questions I’ve previously been asked:

Q – Why not use the “Looking for” section of the forums and /r/GuildRecruitment?

A – The idea with both of these subreddit based tools is that it is really easy to view all the posts that PvP players looking for something are actually interested in seeing. Currently PvP posts from players/teams that are looking for something are so few and far between that they quickly become buried by the much larger PvX community in this game. Here you don’t need to bump your posts and there is a clear format to follow, that makes finding what you are looking for quick and easy.

Q – Won’t this fragment the GW2 PvP reddit community?

A – Neither of these subreddits are designed to foster any sort of community within themselves whatsoever. They both merely function as a place to post non-discussion adverts. These are tools to use, not reddit communities and so I don’t believe that they fragment the discussion space for PvP subjects at all.

Let’s see some more teams add themselves to the list!

This is a subreddit dedicated to bringing PvP teams together to compete in tournaments. It has been fairly active since I started it up a little while ago now.

It can also be used by PvP Guilds as these are great places to network with players and form teams. As well as aspiring coaches, who would like to advertise themselves with a view to mentor teams and or players.

It was pretty good overall.

I’d only add that at the start of games we didn’t get into game view quick enough a lot of the time. Especially the very first game I think we watched a good 30s of the players faces whilst the game had started. The opening splits is a key point to see for the viewers.

You need to mention your region EU or NA.

Also drop a post in here if you haven’t already, it’s a place solely for PvP players to find groups where the posts aren’t buried by pvx posts.

In fact I just checked. There are currently 10 EU posts and 11 NA posts. I wouldn’t call that “most posts” are NA at all.

Yeah, if I wanna make a post I need to register which is troublesome. And most posts looking for team are NA anyway.

Troublesome to click “sign up” and type in a username, password and captcha? Your loss I suppose. There is a roughly equal amount of NA/EU at the moment.

I assume that means you don’t have an account on reddit? Even if you don’t have an account you can still read all the posts there. You just need an account to post/comment.
