I used my brand new endless ornate clothing tonic that I got today a few times and then it was USED UP and VANISHED.

This is a public service announcement – Don’t use those tonics!
Also if you could take a look at it ANet, I’d appreciate that.

It’s not a big loss for me, but I can bet a lot of players are going to be very angry if it happens to them.

Nice shirts aren’t supposed to be used only three times before they explode.

What you gonna do VS a Warrior Zerg in WvW?

Tentacle Love.3412

It’s three seconds of not dying to damage.

let me think: Do I want to have a healing signet, which doesn’t have enough healing to keep me alive, or a skill that can make me invincible for three seconds?

Do I want to take 90,000 damage from a zerg and die, or do I want to take zero damage from a zerg and keep their attention long enough for my zerg to assassinate them?

Hmm, let me think about this:
Do I want bags and bags galore, or do I want to suck and be a liability to my server?

Man these are some tough questions. I’m gonna have to do some soul-searching before I decide whether really awesome skills are appropriate for my build or not.

The collusion idea was brought up before but it wouldn’t really work. If 2 teams are going back and for (Aka karma train), they are both leaving their stuff wide open for the 3rd server to take; and the 3rd server wins it quite easily. It’s happened before during the karma train. The other server swoops in and just screws everything up.

It’s called being the Kingmaker. You can’t win, but you can decide who wins. And when it becomes apparent that that’s the deciding factor in the season, it’ll generate a lot of backlash.

WvW Season 1. Coverage is not the problem.

in WvW

Tentacle Love.3412

too much potential for collusion.

example:
team A, B, and C are fighting WvWvW
team C does nothing.
team A and B fight to a dead end tie.
Team C takes one thing from one team, and then it is taken back.
If team A and B fight to a dead-heat tie for the rest of the week, the team that took something back from team C has one more point and wins.
If one of the big teams colludes with the third team, they can trade points back and forth to make it impossible for the other big team to win.
In fact, two teams going back and forth for a while can decide the week in the first two days, earning so many points that when team C comes in and captures everything, they still lose, because they can’t gain any more points.

If you want to spice up the game, here’s an idea: give randomized, incentive-driven point boosts to players that can dynamically and quickly respond to changes in priority.

Right now, we all know how much each thing will be worth when the tick comes. Change it to where a message pops up that says “The gods gaze upon the mists, and will grant a boon to the owner of Dreaming Bay Keep in one hour.”

Suddenly players turn all their sights on whether they can capture or hold that one location.
Maybe the current owner will abandon it and think of trying to capture as many other locations as possible in order to make up for the assured loss.
Maybe it becomes a super-valuable location whose points are increased per tick until captured. (Meaning its value is based on how long you can hold it)
Maybe the gods grant a boon of super-powered siege and a divine legendary commander to help capture the rest of the map.
Maybe the gods see that the battle is still raging, and they vaporize the attackers, granting the keep’s owner bonus points for holding out against overwhelming force.

Then it’s just a matter of getting the randomization down right so that the targets of opportunity aren’t too far into difficult territory, making victory all but assured. (although even then, it’d be awesome to see two servers closing in on the target as its well-stocked owner shores up its defense – it may be that no one is capable of resisting completely against that push)

I’m surprised they didn’t also explore the problem with her being a typical female villain stereotype.

Ahh, like how she only exists to be sex appeal for the main character and none of her evil plots end up working out in her favor, and she always ends up beaten in the end by the main character who never really completely fails?

Funny how many of the typical female villain stereotypes she doesn’t live up to.

Collaborative Development: Commander System

in CDI

Tentacle Love.3412

So if I may, it seems like it would be beneficial to have something other than “Commander” to denote a WvW character specializing in something.

When I hop into WvW, ignoring my experience, it seems like I have two options:
1. Roam
2. Zerg

And that’s kinda lame.

Suppose instead that I wanted to help out my server by keeping siege weapons maintained that have been deployed in odd locations (such as the stuff people throw down in the towers). Perhaps you could add a Siege Engineer title, which would be marked with a much smaller gear icon and also visible on the map (but only to commanders, and not interactable with). This gives the commander an instant map-view of who’s maintaining siege, and the really creative ones could use this as a way to send other information to the commander, conveying two meanings at once. very Bene Gesseret, that is.

Suppose also that there might be a sub-tag labeled Scout, and players who activate it would only be visible to the commander on the map, but they would automatically ping the map when coming into contact with an enemy commander with his or her pin up. thieves who have near-perma stealth (I know you’re trying to eliminate perma stealth, so I’ll keep that in mind) would be able to locate enemy zergs, and report on their location while focusing completely on staying alive – which is cool, that’s what you want. This gives your server (assuming you’re the scout or have a good one on your team) a huge advantage knowing where the enemy zerg is, and gives them the ability to confront the zerg or avoid it. It also gives enemy roamers a big target to aim for while roaming. How cool is that? I dunno, I just picture giving commanders more information on scouts and siege would be a great upgrade to the system, and only the really good ones would be able to make best use of it.

Barring the introduction of something like that, I’d say it would be nice to have Commanders set a short, 25 character description next to their tag on the map, so they could create their own titles (within reason). Then you could set your tag to say “scout” or “repair” or “run yaks need S” or “QUIT DRAINING GARRISON” or just “GET IN TS”.

Food for thought.

The thing about the living story

Tentacle Love.3412

Now I’m not going to write the end-all, be-all writeup on this because that simply can’t be done but I figured adding something to the mix couldn’t hurt.

I see a lot of people complaining about Living Story, and Scarlet, and figured it’d help to set a few things straight.

1. The 2-week living story updates aren’t meant to be compared to the 2-year expansions from those other games you’ve played. Each of these updates is like a half of an issue of a comic book, compared to the novels you get from other sources (which sometimes take 8 plus years, COUGH COUGH GRRM…). Please stop trying to consume it like you would something else. They’re not the same, and you’re only hurting yourself by setting expectations too high.

2. Scarlet hasn’t ACTUALLY been around that long and hasn’t ACTUALLY been mastermind of “all of the things” as long as you think. Go back and look at Wrath of the Lich King. how many months/years was Arthas the big bad, incapable of being hurt at all until there came a point at which players were finally allowed to beat him? The most you could do was inconvenience him, which you did a few times – shocking isn’kitten how much MORE you’ve been able to do to stop Scarlet already.

Fact is, this fractal wasn’t planned – and yes it does feature Scarlet, but that’s not the development team’s fault. This biweekly was supposed to be a vacation from Scarlet, not a continuation. And you can say all you want about how they wanted Kiel to win, I never saw a single celebrity (or streamer, or prominent player commenting on the game) endorsing kiel. It was a 100% across the board gnashfest amongst all of the people that I saw outside of the game commenting on who they wanted to win.

That being said, I understand completely with the people who are frustrated. Scarlet AGAIN?!?! Why it’s as if they’re INTENDING for us to get angry and upset when we see her. What is she, some sort of VILLAIN?!?!

Side note: Also the flame armors are cool, but enough with the fire already. I do think it’s cool that the medium armor looks good on male charr (hey, it’s an armor set not designed for human females!) but yeah, the fiery human tier 3 cultural looks pretty. If only dudes could wear that version too.

Well the first thing you’re gonna want is those traveler runes because that’s a pretty big deal.

The second thing you’re gonna want is some earmuffs to drown out the sound of the zerg needing more veil and portal and …everything else that a mesmer provides.

The third thing you’re gonna want is your build, and really that’s up to you. there are some new lockdown options that look nice, I played with them a slight bit and they’re pretty cool, but I can’t say for certain if I was just steamrolling someone with no business trying to solo cap a ruin (seriously get your guardian kitten back in the zerg) or if it actually is all that and a cherry on top.

Now the real thing you want is experience playing around with everything. You’re getting in in a rare cycle where just about every build you look at is going to be awesome, and you should play around with it before that changes.

Try out the immortal before it gets nerfed to hell, try the permavigor before people figure out they need to whine about that, and try those lockdown builds, especially the ones heavy on reflection, and take all those engineers and rangers out to a nice dinner IF YOU KNOW WHAT I’M SAYING.

Just go have fun, really.

That trait that does something when you get downed? I think every class gets that and they all suck. I think, however, that if something gave a slight heal (rejuve?) on downed and 3 seconds of quickness it’d be a really strong trait – because being able to spam those skills when you get downed is cool, and it’d make for a nasty surprise if a player isn’t prepared when they down someone.

Also I’d love it just a little bit more when I dome someone with feedback when they get downed. and they end up killing themselves.

The issue with traits related to the down state or rally (not the revive traits) is that people will always prefer being stronger while being alive and trying to stay alive instead of being downed but strong. I would prefer those trait being replaced with something actually useful.

Oh I know, trust me, I probably wouldn’t take the trait either, but it’s at least a nice place to explore options rather than just outright gutting it.

I’ve done some really hilarious things by realizing that I was about to be downed underwater and dropping time warp. thirty stacks of confusion is hilarious.

A question to mesmers

Tentacle Love.3412

the death from above thing wasn’t really an exploit, just a bug that caused a skill to deal way more damage than intended and it was fixed pretty fast. same day, I believe.

Mesmers who specialize in shattering their clones deal a lot of damage. that’s not new. In fact, for a while now they’ve been able to teleport to you, shatter, then summon clones and shatter again, dealing way more damage than you might be prepared for. If you want to survive it, you need to be prepared, you need to respond quickly, and you need to have a skill to either get away fast, dodge, or go invincible/evasion/whatever.

Usually you’re taking about 4 hits at the same time. They’re all added up and shown to you as one big number though.

When you do take a shatter to the face, it’s not just the immediate damage, sometimes the confusion damage gets added in too. For example, if I put a feedback dome on you and summon my phantasmal berzerker, you get to take a lot of damage when she spins into you, and you get some stacks of confusion from the hit. Then, I slam a greatsword into your face, adding more confusion. then I dodge into you and detonate my clones, adding 8 stacks of confusion. Then I put three more clones down very fast and shatter them for mind wrack, which is the high-damage shatter. This adds 4 stacks of confusion and a lot of damage. If you’re still alive at this point, I switch to my sword/focus or sword/sword and proceed to blender you for massive damage with that, while evading your attacks.

And this is with my build which is NOT optimal. So you can only imagine the terrors that other mesmers can unleash upon your poor unfortunate non-mesmer body.

Now, if your battle log is telling you that you didn’t take enough damage to die, that’s probably a bug on the part of the battle log, which might not be able to believe what it’s seeing either. Mesmers are, after all, pretty awesome.

You might try the Immortal Build, or you might (gasp) go for a phantasm build with gs/s-f, or you might go for the new lockdown options.

I would recommend against using a staff because you don’t want to vanish into the middle of the zerg when leading the charge – it sends the wrong message to see the commander yell charge and then move in the opposite direction.

Be aware of the power inherent in the mainhand sword and the offhand focus, the versatility of your greatsword, and the immense power at your disposal with the offhand sword and the offhand pistol. Know that the scepter and torch are not for the noob-hearted. Look deep into the portal until it gazes back, and be driven mad with the power within. Cast veils upon thy zerg, and laugh mightily when you assassinate heaps of enemies by the score. Use thy Null Field well, and strip thy enemies of their boons, sending them weeping into the loving embrace of their spawn waypoint.

Thou art the Mesmer.
Thine power is infused with the laughter of the gods.
Go forth, and troll.

The main reasons I’d use focus over sword sword is because

a) swiftness, since it’s really fricking frustrating when you fall behind even when you have traveler runes
b) you can make up for that phanty swordsman with the warden in the right circumstances. drop down the warden, lay the temporal curtain right on top of him mid fight, and watch as cleansing bolts appear, cleaning out conditions (which, as a mesmer, are REALLY obnoxious). he might not deal as much damage but that utility can make up for it.

I love how you just countered “My phantasms cant get their attacks off/do damage” with “You can portal your teammates places!”

Since I don’t have the problem of my zerker not doing damage, I don’t know where to begin.

I’ve never encountered a situation in wvw where my zerker was a wasted skill. It’s massive damage every 12-16 seconds. It doesn’t spawn at me and spin into aoe. I’m never dumb enough to run head-on into a zerg yelling STAAAACK.

It works just fine, because I do.

I’ve had no problems using my shatter build in large zerg v zerg fights, it’s very easy to mistime though and you very much so need to be prepared.

I usually start by slamming myself down in the middle of the zerg when we attempt to split it open, putting a chaos storm at my feet, and throwing the greatsword. then I summon the berzerker, and dodge roll into something. at this point I immediately cry of frustration, then use another dodge and a decoy to get two more clones out. if necessary I switch weapons to throw down another phantasm but since I count as an illusion when shattering I usually just mind wrack right then and there.

At this point I’ve unloaded a ton of damage directly into the back half of an approaching zerg. the front line of the zerg is turning around screaming “STACK STACK ON PIN!” or something like that, and the rear of the formation is lamenting their missing traveler runes and wondering why they showed up to fight.

If it seems unfair to you that your shatter build isn’t working in WvW, you’re not doing WvW right. When you’re in a zerg, you’re either steamrolling or you’re getting steamrolled. As a mesmer, you’re never dead weight to your team. Portaling golems is an incredibly valuable skill. Portaling team members up to the lord after a zerg just steamrolled your keep, and someone didn’t check for mesmers? well, sucks to be them. Sure the walls are paper now but whatever, you got it back.

If you get the impression that you’re just not getting as much out of your mesmer than another class, well, play what you want!

I like the idea of mimic copying the next skill a la echo, but if you do that, make it where it copies the next weapon skill you use rather than utility/heal/elite. no sense elevating it instantly to elite status, that’s a bit nuts. doubling up on some of those weapon skills though would be sweet. especially sword and focus – we could actually get a decent amount of swiftness!

earlier, with cheap-as-hell exotic gear with perplexity runes just because I didn’t feel like spending too much, and well, tahlkora gear (lol) with sword/focus and gs, and the jankiest 30/30/10 (chaos storm yay!) trait build… I found myself interrupting, knocking down, locking down and harassing players so much that I may just switch to this full time.

it has a few kinks to work out, but since I’ve got the computer to make it work, i can run a lockdown build in wvw. had me a couple one on one fights and just wrecked people who had NO IDEA they weren’t going to land any really important skills.

Finding more mesmer builds would be awesome, but I’d be interested to hear from other people’s experiences in wvw with the lockdown builds, because there’s a lot you can do with them.

I’m unclear how a capable female in a leading role who also manages to maintain a strong degree of femininity in her dress and manner could be considered a Gurl. So no, I have not noticed any such developments.

She feels more like she based on a 30s male detective. At any rate I like Marjory’s character. I wish she was working alone though. it takes away from what they coulda done with her to have her buddies with Kassmeer. feels tacked on & weird. She seems like she’d be much more of a loner.

If you bother to stand next to them for any significant length of time, it’s obvious they’re in a relationship, and care very deeply and romantically for one another.

Whether that’s hardcore slashfest or bromance is up to your personal interpretations, but that ship is sailing hard.

Zerging is getting ridiculous

in Tower of Nightmares

Posted by: Tentacle Love.3412

Tentacle Love.3412

They can’t force you not to zerg, I mean they’ve done all they can.

Those billions of hit point pools and 15 minute timers are SUPPOSED to get you to GO AWAY so that smaller groups get a crack at world bosses, and all you do is double down.

If you want the zergs to stop you have to start with yourself.

In WvW, when Jade Quarry attempted to defend three locations at once while both Blackgate and SoR were attacking, they lost. Guess why? Turns out two servers worth of zergs beats one server worth.

All week long, across every WvW battleground, JQ’s players were sitting waiting in multiple hour long queues while the players inside had to teach a whole new generation of newbies how to get into teamspeak and follow instructions. Meanwhile we were getting double-teamed. SoR would attack a base, we would swoop in to defend, and we’d get sandwiched between them and BG. SoR got slaughtered, but the 5-10 BG players left over afterwards were enough to scrape out a win and claim the keep.

This is what they had to do to take out one well-coordinated team. Sure, they could get better at the one on one matchup, or the two on two, or the small group hit and run style of play.

They could get some competent rogues to run around spying on troop movements and reporting into teamspeak to coordinate zerg assassinations (yes, you can completely destroy a zerg by abusing the hell out of chokepoints and you CAN do it with a group less than half its size).

But do you realize how much work that appears to take compared to the very simple instructions of “grab your sword and fight the horde!”?

The only way to get rid of the zerg mechanics would be to increase the skill level required to compete in the first place, which would alienate far too many players.

If I were to wager the area to attack, I’d say that combo fields and finishers are probably the starting point. If you had to do a little more work to make the combo field/finisher system work, then the zerg’s collective power would drop significantly, and the individual player contribution would rise. That might help.

About new armor skins and some feedback

in Tower of Nightmares

Tentacle Love.3412

I disagree with the opinion that it looks bad, I think the male design is far lazier.

If you’re looking for realism, go try wearing that suit of armor and doing a lap around your backyard. Then try jumping up the side of a hill, running a few marathons, eating a steak dinner, getting into a bunch of fights, repairing a cannon, mining a few random rocks, chopping down a few trees, and then WAKING UP.

The suits of armor that you’ve grown to be accustomed to in fantasy games are DUMB. Why are they dumb? Because in real life, those suits of armor were not worn for longer than a few hours at a time, and they were largely ceremonial at the time, only used to designate persons of noble birth so that a peasant would not make the mistake of accidentally killing someone above their station (which would result in their family’s extermination or debt-slavery).

it may seem like the male armor looks more realistic, but it’s actually the LEAST realistic of the two armor looks. the female armor offers some protection, clearly has less than half the mass of the other, allows for the wearer to maneuver and exercise agility, and still protects the legs and the hamstrings (which is the first and most important target). The male version does all the work for the opponent, slowing you down to a snail’s pace and exhausting you before the fighting even begins.

As to the aesthetics, well that’s all on you. You have other options available to you.

Honestly I think that even with the “wizard did it” approach, it still looks lame on the male side, because you obscure all the nice details of your character’s face, and well, you end up with a genderless, nameless silver blob. I mean if you want to be some sort of generic soldier, that’s cool, but it’s not for everyone.

Other important male characters in the Living Story(since Clockwork Chaos, anyway): Braham, Vorpp, Moto, Ketto, Nimbb, Wortt, um…is that it?

Does Ketto’s Lab even count? SAB is a recurring event not a true living story and the characters only really turned up for a short two minute cameo.

Sure it counts.

granted, it’s very little to work with now but … eh, it hasn’t been handled poorly. There’s just enough story there to make it interesting, not enough to quash potential, and you’re allowed to interpret some of the meaning for yourself. You really don’t get a lot of that in game.

I mean, regarding the genie, for example… was it programmed in? was it a virus that warped out of control? was it the super adventure box becoming self-aware? was it all just a hallucination brought about by excessive playtime? I like that they leave it open to interpretation. even if only just for now.

hell, if they have to take baby steps to get better story ideas to bounce content off of, I encourage them to do it.

Yes they did.

We should add to this list though, it’s rather funny.

how about:

Toymaker Tixx’s long-forgotten son shows up: his creations are equally crazy and super-op, but nobody even bothers to care what they are and what they do, because they’re either in a zerg or trying to catch up to one.

WvW Season 2 : The queue strikes back. Now in WvW, groups of over 30 players congregating in one area will spawn Scarlet, who will then brutally and mercilessly kill players with her massive hit point total and 15 minute timer. She won’t bother doing any damage or performing any attacks, players will just drop dead after seeing her dance.

New really awesome 25-slot bag! This requires candy cane shards, left over from guild wars. Yeah, you have to go to the hall of monuments and crack open that xunlai chest, and hope they’re well-preserved. (alternatively, you can pay just a few gems for black lion chest keys, which give you a very low and exciting chance at getting a preserved candy cane shard. You need twenty thousand to get the bag.

Also in the black lion shop: someone else’s christmas wish! (we do not guarantee that it is yours) It could be a Nintendo 64, a new car, or a proposal from someone else’s boyfriend! (no takebacksies. It’s ok, he’s a nice young man) This is the only one of the new things you can afford.

Good taste is subjective, and if you don’t like kittenty outfits, then don’t wear them.

How do you people even manage to go out at night, do you confront every girl in a short skirt or visible bra straps in the club?

Cause they aren’t out in a kittening battlefield, in stabbing distance of someone else who is looking to stab.

It has nothing to do with prudence, and everything to do with being reasonable and practical. As I said before, while it’s a fantasy game, you can only suspend your disbelief so far. No matter how you slice it, a girl character charging into close-range combat with a metal bikini is just ridiculous.

See, this is the weird argument.

Those swords? They’re made out of fire and annihilate everything they touch. METAL ARMOR DOES NOT PROTECT YOU FROM THAT.

The elementalist over there? Summons liquid hot magma and sprays you in the face with it.

Someone wearing “skimpy” armor is FAR MORE LIKELY TO LIVE than someone wearing 400 pounds of tank plate, flinging around a thirty pound sword and lugging a fifty pound shield to go along with it.

You get one of two choices:

Either the mass of the armor and weapons matter, in which case you will die of exhaustion from wearing your heavy armor longer than an hour at a time…

Or it doesn’t matter, in which case skimpy armor makes MORE sense because it takes less material to make the armor.

There’s no scenario where bulky full plate armor wins out.

what a about a laser watch like james bond’s one

That would be awesome, and hilariously appropriate, since Asura are just the kind of people to make them!

BTW everyone. People are reporting that not a single server is FULL right now. Go transfer or join whatever server you want. Quick.

Cheers.

Yeah I logged, in, went “Holy crap!” and transferred, and got a network error message and was like OH DAMN did it go through?

It did.

I’m happy now, and it looks like GW2 isn’t going to face a crisis soon. Maybe they were holding back and when things looked a bit too close for comfort they went ahead and added some server power. Who knows?

At least I got what I wanted.

A stealth-stripping combo field might be a possibility in the future, but for now I’m sure they don’t want to completely hose such a significant set of skills.

Remember that Guild Wars didn’t have any stealth, and there was a LOT of complaining about that when the Assassin was first revealed – it took a while before people realized the class was balanced around the teleports which were arguably far more powerful. So this is technically their initial foray into the mechanic, and it will have its issues.

With regards to your options when you go against it, simply maintain visibility. When the culling issue is fixed in wvw, and people aren’t getting an extra 50% bonus effectively added to the duration, the mechanic should improve greatly and you’ll have far less issues with it (if that’s the source of your frustration). If you’re in SPVP, simply never go off on your lonesome. Stealth will own anyone who isn’t in a group. as soon as your character benefits from combos and team efforts, the benefits from stealth significantly drop off.

Making stealthed characters take more damage is wrong for a couple reasons -

1. Mesmers get stealth too, nerfing stealth means they get even more squishy – when they’re not supposed to be.

2. Boons are not supposed to be negatives. Conditions are bad, Boons are good. If you start blending the two, the game is going to get real stale because just about every stealth skill becomes a “don’t accidentally hit this button or you die” skill – does your class have any skills that you DON’T want to activate because they’ll kill you?

A difference between MMOs and console games

I tried defining the term MMORPG for a class in which we were attempting to assemble a book on MMORPG’s, with each student assigned a specific chapter.

What I ended up with was this:

If it’s a role playing game, where you create a character, and your character interacts with other players’ characters…
If it’s online, and takes advantage of the internet’s social constructs…
If it’s multiplayer, and you interact with others regularly (they don’t just watch you do stuff)…
If it’s massive, and its audience is in at least the thousands…
And if it’s Massively Multiplayer and there’s no hard cap on the total number of players who can play the game, and you can interact with people while exploring the virtual landscape…

Then it’s an MMORPG.
And for any example that fails to meet all these criteria, if the developers or producers want to make the case for its inclusion, and if they can reasonably prove it to be an MMORPG, then it is so.

It’s the best I could come up with given the games that I visualized meeting the criteria and the ones I visualized not meeting the criteria.

Note that a game like the original Guild Wars or League of Legends only fails the Massively Multiplayer part when you consider that an instance of the game caps the players to groups of 10-24, thus the game “world” is rather small in that case. Guild Wars has its cities with plenty of players, but you areguably aren’t really exploring then… And its developers insisted that it wasn’t an MMORPG, so that point’s moot. LoL’s developers will probably tell you it’s not an RPG, because you don’t create a character, you pull from a list, and the decisions you make on leveling up don’t count as enough investment to make it “your character.”

but in any event, it’s a great talking point to start a debate, and it always leads to some nice discussions.

Well, it WOULD be an awful shame if on Christmas day, every server was “Full” and nobody could play the game they got for Christmas, but I seriously doubt that would happen.

I’m also not really complaining about the game being dead, as much as I am asking if new servers are on the horizon – which would be nice for just about everyone.

Famous last words.

“It’s okay, I swapped in my falling damage talent.”

“I’ll just jump down into the middle of the guys attacking the gate and my chaos storm will deal with them.”

And lastly,

“Oh crap, I meant to open up a portal before jumping down here.”

I don’t mean to sound bitter or upset, but recently a friend of mine transferred to another server for purposes of WvW, and I can’t join him, because dang near every server is packed. I don’t see this trend ending any time soon.

Do you have plans to add more servers soon, perhaps a trio of servers to make up their own WvW block? (or at least to preserve the wvw balance, since they’ll probably slide right into the wvw ladder right quick)

Prior to the discovery of portal bombing, I distinctly remember being in a group of 30 players that was completely and totally wiped out by 40 invisible players. I could not see these players until after I was downed and then defeated.

HOW is this the fault of portals?

You take away portal bombing at all, you restrict it like this, you’re going to end up going right back to culling being the only problem. You want to fix culling but you’re pointing at portals.

Fix the exploits, not the skills that work as intended and actually contribute to group strategy. I don’t want to go back to roving groups of 40 players murdering everything in their path by spamming their 1 button and moving forward. That would not be progress.

You don’t want to go back to doing what? So you’re telling me that After your portal bomb you don’t rove with a group of 40+ people murdering everything in their path by spamming their 1 button and moving forward? I thought that was all there is left to do after bypassing reinforced gates, arrow carts and Ballistas.

The nerve of some people.

Yes, the nerve of me.

Nerfing portal will not solve your problem.

That much is clear, but you don’t give a kitten because you’re upset that someone pulled a portal bomb on you one too many times.

Guess what? In real life those walls don’t mean jack kitten either. Ever heard of the Maginot Line? The Great Wall of China? The walls of Jericho? THE wall?

Surprise surprise, turns out that every story of someone NOT tearing down or going around a wall isn’t very eventful! or exciting!

Take away the strategy of sneaking through a fortification, and you end up with some very boring combat.

Oh, I can understand you not liking the strategy because after all, you’re not a mesmer. Why SHOULD you care?

When you ask for nerfs like this you need to show proof that after the nerf, it isn’t going to be worse. And you can’t, because taking away portal will NOT stop, slow down, or inconvenience the problem of 40 man armies marching across the battlefield completely invisible. It won’t increase the strategic options of anyone, and it won’t make wvw more fun.

Yeah that’s nice. But tell that to people who work hard for every tic only to loose tics to portal bombing. Oh, I forgot portal boming is easy to defend against. For get the points right?

How is this an argument?
You can say the same for anything else in the game.
