Sure the “Molten Alliance” may feel like it has some plot holes. Both sides are quite xenophobic. But what if, just maybe, there is something bigger pulling the strings.
Wasn’t Jormag notorius for being deceitful? Moreso than the other dragons at least.
I’m not so much of a role-player. I play the game for similar reason to say, watching a TV show or reading a book. I guess a little RP comes with the territory.
Here’s one for ya.
How about a feature where you can replay movies from your character’s life? I don’t refer to every single conversation cutscene. I mean the definite movies such as your opening and intro, the story Rytlock tells you at the start of Ascalon Catacombs, or the “welcome to the Order” video you get when you join one.
It could be a feature of your home instance. A pin-board, a skaald, an archive. Or some other racial document bin that you can interact with, and see the list of movies you have seen on that character.
I had this thought while I was trying to remember the one that plays half way through Sorrow’s Embrace, and realising I wasn’t keen to run the dungeon again just for that movie. And it would be so much better than YouTube-ing them, cause I wanna see the intro with my character in it, not some random’s.
Thanks for the heads up. I knew that you all were hiding somewhere and if I posted I would find ya. Maybe you’ll hear from me.
Where are you all? I don’t know if it is just my server or bad timing but I can’t seem to find you all in game.
I’m on Sorrows Furnace if that is any indicator. Where are you all hiding? Any “Tyria loving” guilds out there? Can be any NA server.
I love the lore, and I would have so much more fun playing the game if I could find some Tyria loving people. Not necessarily a role-player, but I enjoy developing my character’s legend. I actually like the books too. Admittedly I haven’t played the original GW but that means there is more story for me to discover!
Note this isn’t a LFG post by any means. More of a “who plays where” post.
So where y’all at? I may be a Norn, but adventuring alone can be – well – lonely!
An Asuran story mission with Zojja:
Zojja: “Yeah. And in the meantime, we’re going to kick your behind so hard you’ll be wearing it as a hat. Right, Mr. Sparkles?”
Mr. Sparkles: “Affirmative. Prepare-to-don-the-behind-hat.”
Most servers will have some kind of internal identity that influences how the server behaves. What I mean is, for example some servers can be clearly tagged as WvWvW servers, and TC is being labelled as a primarily roleplay server (as far as forum search is concerned).
My question is, if your server shows particular lean towards an identity, what would it be?
Looking at things along the lines of “WvWvW server”, or even sPvP. Is your server primarily Oceanic, or Latino? Does your server embrace Tyria and the fun of journeying the world, the dungeons, or is it simply a grinding machine?
Be reasonable with your answers, this could help people identify the server they want. “My server’s LA is full of troll and ragers” doesn’t count.
Did someone say Bacon?
Remember that players have preferences of what weapons they are comfortable using with their playstyle. Don’t rule out a torch just because of the numbers.
It really does depend on your playstyle. And whether your are going PvP or PvE. I have very generic advice to give as a starting point.
A handy place to start is looking at your trait lines that effect sword and torch skills. Dueling offers your the major trait of Blade Training. This will shorten recharge and increase crit chance. Meanwhile in Domination we have Cleansing Conflagration. This shortens your torch cooldowns and offers a cleanse on ability use. For a first timer, just aim for those and build around that. You can always retrait once you are familiar with the game.
Remember, that is only a starting point. It depends on your playstyle.
Being rather frail at times, you might want to trait half and half in survivability as well. The Sword/Torch combo is a close range setup. There are major traits like Prismatic Understanding which can boost your survivability.
Or, if you are going to consider spamming Blurred Frenzy, crit chance and on crit effects are good considering the fact it hits 8 times.
Alternatively. Exploiting the clones through shatters or “on hit/on death” effects can help you. Using clone generating utility skills will help. However, I find that PvE monsters seem a little too smart to be deceived by clones nowadays.
Give me any snowy map anyday. The northern Wayfarer’s Foothills. Frostgorge sound. Snowden Drifts. Those maps, when you stand on the top of a high place and look around, give you an incredible sense of scale. And then you realise, as far as I can see, I can actually explore. It isn’t just a backdrop!
Not to mention the feeling of solitude at the top of such a peak.
The weapon doesn’t maketh the player. It is the other way around.
Totally comply with whatever group strategy is in place. On that note, strategy should be about role and effect, not specific weapon. So if your melee does the desired job, its ok.
There definitely are bosses that require range pretty much no matter what. And it has been mentioned that flexibility is required of dungeon runners. Again, role and effect, not weapons. If your guardian isn’t good or won’t use range, give them a more supportive role then.
Lastly, online worlds are in fact whole worlds, complete with different types of residents from the rich to the poor, self entitled to the humble. “Shake it off” and move along is the best anwer.
I shed a tear. Such a sad story.
And makes me think… where...is Tybalt Leftpaw?
I had no clue about the Blazeridge dragon event, its timing or what actually happens. I just waypointed into the area one day randomly to explore. I take two steps, hear a howling screech and see this dragon zoom horizontally across my screen.
Unforgettable, both how amazing and how comical it was.
As the topic title says: does Kirk Thornton do a voice in this game?
Walking through Lion’s Arch, I get wierded out occasionally because I swear I can hear Xiahou Dun (of Dynasty Warriors fame) having a conversation. Now it’s really bugging me.
Ups and downs the whole way, but at level 80 I’m still going strong. Grats on achieving your goal, now I want to do the same. I really have identified with the Order of Whispers in the game (I did join them too).
Big, hairy, tattoos….
okay that isn’t me, but its a quote from another forum post I saw somewhere (might actually be a Youtube comment actually).
I just love the whole idea of the Norn race. Their story, the snowy lands, the wilderness, the solitary life they lead. Would be perfect for me, but I have a slight dissatisfaction with the personal story and how involved in the world I get. I just want to slay Jormag and return to hunting Owl Griffin Sires.
Random Asura Progeny (child) in Lion’s Arch:
“I like turtles!”
Count me in, and I’ll get my guild in on it too!
By “condition damage beats everything” is that all conditions? Or does one condition do better than others (bleed, poison, burn, confuse, etc).
Interesting that a high crit build is higher than condition damage, because I see synergy with those “effect on crit” sigils.
Take a step back and think what awesome stories can you tell? Was there a time when you won against all odd, had an “epic win” per se? That is my style. I just find friends who meet my style.
The topic is a great one, and there is nothing wrong with any definition of the word “progression”. Each player plays for their own reason, and so long as it makes them happy then all is good.
At the same time, I don’t let my self get bothered by someone else’s approach to the game. I’ll be honest, the hardest thing for me to do is read the forums, because I see very different ideas behind how the game should be made, all of them are as valid as each other. But I also learn so much about how different people play the game.
I cast my vote on Jormag, only because of the large Pact activity working around him. The Kodan also make more noise about Jormag.
People mention expansions for other dragons and I like that thinking. A lot of the map is not open yet, from the rest of Maguuma to the rest of the deserts.
Yes I’m biased, I’m a norn and made one just to fight Jormag.
I find when I use my elementalist, ranged opponents will sidestep outside of my aoe skill effects. I’m with Acerac, I think enemy intelligence is a feature!
I don’t drink with Charr no more. Last time I got drunk with a Charr, I rode a tank into somewhere I can’t remember and lost it, woke up with very poorly done tattoo (t says Steg~~~~ something, I think the tattoo artist was drunk too) and found out I joined the army…….. the Charr army!!!!
I may outdrink you, but I lose in other ways.
Who loses a tank? Honestly.
Made a “short” female norn thief, still towers above the rest. Though in my opinion looks more proportional too.
Next time you get drunk at a moot (and I mean Norn type drunk) see how you dance :P
Is your kitten a snow leopard cub?
Hey all, I’m a huge fan of the Final Fantasy Tactics series of games, and I’m thinking of starting a playthough of Final Fantasy Tactics a2 on the Nintendo DS. But this time, I’m gonna theme my in game clan around the professions of Tyria. I’m a little stuck on deciding where classes in the game line up with GW2 professions though. What do you all think my clan should have.
I’m thinking things along the line of:
Engineer = Fusilier, Cannoneer, Flintlock or Tinker.
Ranger = Hunter or Ranger.
Thief = Sniper or Assassin.
Mesmer = Trickster
Guardian = Paladin
Warrior = too many to fit.
Elementalist = Black Mage, Elementalist or Red Mage.
Necromancer = Arcanist or Alchemist.
My own two cents, add it to the “user feedback folder”:
I have 5 characters right now:
My main is a norn mesmer, level 80 and waiting on the fix for an orrian story mission. But that aside, I found the difficulty peaked during the 40-60ish levels. On that note, I changed my playstyle around then and maybe after “learning” to play I am having little issues at 80 quests (but still, curse that mouth of Zhaitan)
As a 50+ Sylvari Ranger or Human Warrior, life was so much easier for both. Admittedly, I would have preferred to use my warrior as melee for some bosses, but I don’t mind a rifle-kiting warrior if I have to.
Fresh started Asura Engineer, can’t say yet as low level missions are intro mode.
My Norn Thief, ahhhhh now this one is tough. Either I don’t know how to play thief, or soloing personal story is darn impossible. Also a low level, I am failing said “intro mode missions”.
Ok, a bit more than two cents, so in summary: easy when I figured out my class and thief seems a little out of whack.
I just wanna be able to say I’ve done each path at least once in my life. Actually, gear isn’t a high priority for me in any game I play, so long as its enough to keep me alive.
I’m one of “those” players who is really into the lore and land of Tyria anyway. Dungeons are just another chapter in my game.
Yes, another one of 5 million similar threads about this. There’s nothing that CAN be done cos ET is 4th, thus going against 5th and 6th place servers. Also WvW was never meant for “balance”. How about working together to take down ET, you know.
I distinctly recall a video where an ANet member said WvW is unbalanced, while talking about the different pvp modes. sPvP and all that is the balanced stuff.
I recall in a video where developers talk about WvW, they said WvW is meant to be unbalanced.
(Sorrow's Furnace) Austyria [AUST] Australian and New Zealand casual guild
in Guilds
Posted by: The Bacon Bard.3586
Hello all, my name is Matt, and I run Austyria. Austyria is a guild who caters for (but not restricted to) players of GW2 from Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific region.
Our only entry requirement is that you be 18 years or older. This will be a mature guild, and while we will still be behaved and civil we are an environment for adults to be comfortable in.
We are recruiting all classes and all races, so don’t worry about who you are/going to be.
In short, we are a community friendly guild who’s vision is to provide support and company to our members. We are not competitive, hard core, RP, or veterans. We are just a collection of like-minded people enjoying the game together. We are going to have fun in PvP, WvWvW, PvE, everything! If you level 1-80 in WvWvW only, we will congratulate you just the same as if you speed-ran a hard dungeon. I believe the whole game is good, no need to limit ourselves to one part of it.
Our slogan is our guide: There is no substitute for mateship.
Find us here at: http://austyria.shivtr.com/
Apply anytime! We have no requirement on how active you are.
We do not mind, in fact we encourage, multiple guild membership. How can we be a guild focussed on community if we don’t let you join other communities?
Just to make totally clear, the guild will be running off GMT+10 (inclusive of DST). This means the guild clock is ticking off whatever time it is in Sydney, Australia. However, as I said, the doors are open to the whole world!
