I basically agree with all the earlier responses but would add that its important in a zerg for the commander to understand what his frontline is using and thus what calls to make accordingly. So you should probably ask commanders you run with regularly how they would like you specced. For instance I’m on Isle of Janthir and before the server pairing our commanders rarely called for leaps into the enemy but now paired with JQ and in much bigger zerg fights I find I need to run Dragonhunter for the f2 Wings of Resolve leap if I’m not running greatsword or I’m left behind. So I’ve dropped Valor for Dragonhunter. JQ is a little short on frontline so there are also a couple of commanders on JQ that still play more pirateship meta and would perfer guardians to have longbow and call for longbow 5 for the cc. If you aren’t on voice comms then of course this is less important.

It isn’t working. I tested both in combat and out and neither the tool tips the boon icons or the hero stats screen show any effect from this. I thought maybe the boon was lasting longer then the icon shows, so I tried giving myself fury and watched my crit go up in the hero stats screen for exactly the amount of time the fury would last without the 20% from honorable staff. I’m not sure how to test this any further but it seems clear that it isn’t giving any benefit.

Actually the sources of damage reduction avilable to guardians are starting to add up. A guardian could have

Hunters Fortification -10% damage when no conditions
Signet of Judgement -10% damage
New HOT Foods -10% damge
Scrapper Runes -7% damage when enemy within 600 units
Protection buff – 33% damage

Am I missing anything?

Anyone know how the math on this works? Are these straight additions to the damage reduction percentage provided toughness and defense? Or are they applied in series and thus not as good?

Max, I see you in the zerg all the time. Stop trying to fit a round Dragonhunter peg in a square guardian hole! Come back to the light. I do wish I could find an effective Dragonhunter build for large scale combat. Shield of courage is really nice but the other virtues and traits just aren’t worth it in a frontline build. Hunter’s fortification is kind of useful but I actually perferred the original version of hunter’s fortification that gave protection on virtue use.

What's going on with WvW rewards?

Things always get messy when there are reward mechanisms that don’t align with the goal of a game mode. The goal of the game mode is supposed to be PPT. But if you try to reward people by PPT then you have to measure effort towards that PPT which is very difficult to award fairly. Capturing an objective is not effective PPT, you may be colluding with another server to flip things back and forth, what about scouts and other roles…

Badges seem like they were initialy intended to fill the role of reducing wvw costs by doing wvw. You can get exotic gear, siege, etc… The problem with badges is at least the way they are awarded now doesn’t align with contribution to PPT and making them do so is the same problem with measuring contribution to PPT.

I think the rewards could be better and adding modest rewards that reduce costs and perferably are account bound so there is even less incentive to farm them is the way I would go. WvW maps have caps, and as ludicrious as worrying about caps are these days, if wvw rewards ever rivaled PvE rewards those limited spots would be full of bots and people farming those rewards and not really playing WvW.

World vs World Holiday Sneak Peek

The only thing that scares me is PPK. Everyone seems to think that it will encourage fights but I worry that it discourages fights by making people less willing to engage with smaller numbers and give up points. If it does end up encouraging fights I’m all for it I just know way to many commanders who are unwilling to engage larger groups just based on giving the enemies bags and having to regather their group at spawn. If they also know they are going to lose net points I fear they will get even more cautious. I’m sure this isn’t an original thought but I didn’t see it in the 6 or so pages I read.

Just back after 6 monthkittenus. Tried to spend some proof of heroics at the vendor in EBG last evening but the tab where the scrolls should be was empty – message saying nothing to show here at the moment? Is this still disabled or am I doing something wrong. I don’t have the HoT expansion yet – is that the issue?

You are looking at the wrong vendor. You want the Heroics Notary. I don’t know if/where there is one in EBG, I have always bought them at the starting camp in the home borderland. From the waypoint if you go south to the first structure with all the vendors, he is on the left (east) side.

I could be wrong but don’t these come from wiggle chests and those chests show up on every character you log onto until you open them. What is to stop someone from leaving the chests “wiggling” and logging onto a different character to get them?

How is Mesmer's DPS?

For straight up solo sustained dps then Mesmer will not fare that well. If you look at more effective dps scenarios including the dps increase you can bring to allies then mesmers do great. Mesmer’s need to tailor their builds more finely to different encounters as well you can’t just apply one standard rotation to everything.

I thought I had finally found some real insight and reviews. Some people were saying WoW was grindier but you had to get a new grinder whenever some sort of upgrade came out. Others said GW2 was a more long lived grinder that was harder to learn but you didn’t have to get rid of it when a new model came out. But now I’m starting to think we aren’t talking about coffee grinders at all. Well I guess that teaches me to use the “I’m feeling lucky button” on google. It’s too bad, I was all set to buy the GW2 grinder.

I noticed when I’m in wvw I get normal xp from the events, I’m not sure however what it goes towards anymore if anything sense wvw levels are 5k xp each and it’s separate xp

Not sure why this isn’t an option though to choose

Plain xp (not wxp) in wvw doesn’t go towards either set of masteries. It’s useless.

Is lingering light triggered on multiple allies if a heal hits multiple targets at the same time (like ancient seeds hits multiple enemies if you use an aoe damage)? Or does it only hit trigger on one ally per 3 second icd?

It keeps requesting itzel poison lore even tho they removed the requirement. No matter what i do it keeps telling me that it needs it.

That only happened to me once when I tried to reset the story step without leaving the map first.

I had tried switching back to a chapter of the base game living story and then back to HoT 14 (sign cutting) and that didn’t work. I then switched to chapter 13 and it told me all progress would be lost on 14 and I accepted that. It didn’t tell me this when I switched to the base game living story so it appears you need to switch to a different chapter in HoT story for this to work. At that point it was reset but said I needed itzel lore. Then I left the zone, switched to 13 and then back to 14 and it worked when I zoned back in.

There have been a lot of different bugs reported. My particular bug was that all the reality rifts spawned off the platform in space and so were unreachable. Even when i could glide onto one it had no ground underneath it so I couldn’t interact with it. I reported it with a screenshot.

Field priority with moving fields

Does anyone know how priority for interaction is calculated for moving fields like Rejuvenating Tides when they overlap with traditional ones? For instance if I start channeling Rejuvenating Tides and a split second later someone else puts a fire field down where I’m running to and then I overlap with it and blast. Do I get the water field as it has existed longer or do I get the fire field since it has existed in the spot where I’m blasting longer?

I wonder if the blind from lingering light counts as the ranger applying it or the ally. It could be pretty strong paired up with mesmer with ineptitude trait if it is ally and there is not an icd. Icd on ineptitude is only on the blind on block not the confusion from blind.

Healing from blasting water fields was not generating Astral Force.

A number of times I triggered CA in WvW just as I was caught in a bomb (lot of CC and damage) and was immediately thrown out of CA before casting a single skill. I was not transformed in any way so it wasn’t like I was moa’ed or something. Is there anything that drains astral force other than casting skills and time? Someone also suggested that I panicked and hit the button twice but I was careful not to do that in the future and it still happened. I saw this happen to a streamer I was watching do the raid as well. I also just found someone else reporting this in another thread

Don’t forget there is the new emergency waypoint in tier 3 of the guild claiming improvements. We don’t know the specifics on how long it lasts and it won’t recharge as fast as the time between repels but waypointing to a contested objective isn’t completely gone.

WvW Guild Claiming Upgrades [Megathread]

I wanna know if there are 3 levers in each objective, or how do you pick what active you want to use.

You choose which active upgrade you want to slot, it takes a few minutes to be ready and then the lever can activate it. You can’t choose on the fly which one to use or use more than one. I was confused on the quesion. I was trying to answer that you can’t use multiple things from one tier but original questions was really about the three separate tiers.

New guild claming mechanics

With the announcement of the new buffs we will be able to apply towers, keeps, camps and smc there is no mention of if any change will be made to the current system for actually doing the claiming. This brings up a lot of questions.

  • Can you claim from the new ui?
  • Do you have to be in the objective in question to change upgrades or can you do it anywhere on the map?
  • Are the rules for claiming still the same? Can anyone claim when off RI, and can only the guild who the most representation in the capture claim during RI (never been exactly sure on how this is calculated)?
  • Can a guild unclaim? For instance when their rally is over can they unclaim so another can claim and put on their buffs? It would be annoying if guilds feel like they have to claim something they know they won’t hold at the end of a rally to take the claim off their garrison for instance. Just allows us to unclaim please.
  • With time limits to reach the various tiers does this apply to one guild claiming it for that long or the server? Sounds like it has to be one guild. “Tier I unlocks after a guild has held the objective for 10 minutes.”
  • I thought the goal was to move away from trolling possibilities by removing spendable supply from objectives. I like these idea in general but without better controls on claiming I think this might cause more trolling that it solves. I don’t know what the solution is. Maybe allow someone to call for a vote on revoking a claim and claiming it for their guild and have everyone on the map vote to allow or prevent that claim change.

Can it also be used on a door to pull people off of siege and just be a pest?

I don’t actually know for sure. I would imagine so but I’ve never tried it from the inside. You aren’t pulling them any distance since the door is in the way so it wouldn’t delay them more then 1 second and there would most likely be others stacked on the door that the pull might target instead or would just hop on the ram immediately.

It works better in the offensive sense when a few defenders inside a tower are being annoying with well placed arrow carts because you know who it is going to pull and you can time it up with another mesmer to pull them all the way out, or with an ele or other aoe to try to down them. Then hopefully there isn’t someone else to take their place on the siege.

and to wall-pull using Into the Void (Side note: I’ve not been able to get this to work, and all the info I’ve found on doing it is rather old. Does it no longer work?)!

I don’t think anyone has answered this part of your question yet. Yes it does work. The pull only has a range of 600 which is a lot shorter then you would think. If you are chasing someone you really need to be able to drop it pretty close to them as by the time you can get it dropped and activated they will have generally run that distance. So it isn’t great for catching up with someone, it is really better just for interrupting people and stalling them in a specific spot for a second so you can dump damage on them. It is also of course really effective for pulling people out of towers if they come to the edge or if you have two Mesmers to chain pull. You also have to remember that if they have stability they won’t get pulled.

I love the feel of focus and the sheer troll potential of pulling people off towers and such but I rarely find it equipped as torch (better survivability/repositioning) or pistol (more easily applied interrupt/better phantasm damage) are generally more practical. I keep one on hand to quickly switch to when approaching an enemy tower though. Even if you can’t pull them over the lip of a tower a few mesmers cycling pulls can often keep people off well placed siege that can’t be hit with a ele meteor storm.

Sentry week – Dying causes you to respawn as a sentry and be stuck in the ring until you can do your job and kill a passerby.

Does anyone else wonder what kind of a f*** up you would have to be to get assigned sentry duty in WvW?

I’m against anything that would encourage people to run away from fights when out manned. If you play wvw for the fights I’m not sure a straight ppk system would actually benefit you. Maybe award some points for time spent in combat and also for kills. Seems exploitable but straight ppk doesn’t seem to motivate properly.

I also regularly see troll upgrades and have someone taunting in map chat how they are reporting our tag movements to the enemy servers (which is stupid because you just send the tag somewhere the main group isn’t going). Would we have suicide squads on second accounts with ppk? I don’t know.

This might be fun for a few hours but for a whole week. As others have said, put this in eotm only. Then we can have some fun golem zergs and experience the craziness but still go back to regular wvw when it gets old.

If they are going to do this they should share the fun with other game modes and trivialize them as well

SPvP: anyone can use the skyhammer device on any map at any time
Jumping puzzles and map exploration: make your own waypoint to anywhere
Dungeons: Golems again. How do you like spin to win mossman?

Its not really what you are looking for but the only thing similar to clone death in terms of you wanting your illusions to take damage is

Persisting Images

It only applies to phantasms, lasts 6 seconds and since its retaliation it would only be any good in a power build not condi.

I’ve had a little fun with sending phantasms into zergs in WvW with this and

Protected Phamtasms

so that they get their first attack of before they die but its a little gimmicky and a high investment in traits for the reward.

  1. What is “near” in range? It appears to be in radius of effects with radius, in a small range like 250 of portal entrance, exit or veil.
  2. Is it that you get the resistance and super speed if you are in the radius of null field, feedback or timewarp when it is casted? In radius on cast. What about portal or veil? Near exit or entrance, near veil
  3. Is it on cast only as suggested or does moving into one of these after cast trigger it as well? Moving into it doesn’t trigger.
  4. Are there caps on the number of allies that get the effect? Still don’t know. I was getting buggy results like speed appearing but not resistance. Also sometimes it seemed like it was in combat only and other times it seemed to trigger out of combat but that could be a bug with in/out of combat status or the fact that my traits kept resetting on their own and sometimes it took a while for me to notice.

It also works on cast in the effect range with timewarp. It was kind of buggy for me though twice I noticed i got superspeed without getting any resistance. I also would like to know the target cap on each skill but have not been able to test that yet.

Has anyone tested how the new Temporal Enchanter trait actually works?

“Glamour skills last longer. When you cast a glamour, allies near the glamour gain Resistance and Super Speed.”

  1. What is “near” in range?
  2. Is it that you get the resistance and super speed if you are in the radius of null field, feedback or timewarp when it is casted?
  3. What about portal or veil?
  4. Is it on cast only as suggested or does moving into one of these after cast trigger it as well?
  5. Are there caps on the number of allies that get the effect?

Most of my guild agreed that it is the third. People get upset more about percieved unfairness (new players getting something extra, core game) then the price itself

gw2 is a great value but they should have been able to understand that people do not like feeling like someone else is getting a better deal no matter how good the deal they are getting is or that they aren’t getting something they are paying for. Its a human behavior problem more then the value proposition that I think most are upset about. It was just careless packaging on their part. Logicaly gw2 is a great value being subscriptionless.

New player here and have a few questions

Because of the absence of these features for so long I think the WvW community now looks at the difficulty of managing these as one of the things that separates the skillful from the newer player in WvW and not something lacking in the game. For instance a skillful group has to have scouts reporting into a commander and someone keeping eyes on the map to see when swords appear rather then a notification on screen. Also a commander has limited knowledge of his zerg’s health during a push. Its up to experience to tell him when to call for a water field rather then looking at all the health bars in a raid ui. I think at this point these things have become part of the “charm” of the game to many.

Personally I think a raid ui would be too much. There are only a few skills that require targeting an ally so that feature of a raid ui isn’t needed. It would really just be about watching health bars and I’m not sure how useful it would be with how much they can bounce around and not knowing if people have their heal or other panic buttons left yet. However I do get annoyed constantly going to the map to look for swords when I could if I wanted have a second account sitting in spawn with the map always up side by side with the account I’m playing on. So why shouldn’t I be able to get that information in one place on one account without constantly going to the map.

Server Takeover -- WvW Unbalanced IOJ

Hello Guild Wars 2 community!
Just about every time I log in, Isles of Janthir and another server is over-run buy a dominating server.

I play WvW on IoJ every night. It is true that we had a large exodus of wvw focused guilds recently but we still have a few that have a decent presence each night. I’m not sure what time zone you play in but if you play in NA I would be happy to point you to a few. The remainder of the active IoJ wvw players are very dedicated and experienced. We don’t usually have the coverage to field more then one group of 15+ at a time but the group we do field is more then competitive against groups of our size or even bigger. We even have been organizing some server wide wvw events. Although no one seems to go on the IoJ forums and with the merger of servers outside of WvW there is little way to advertise them. I will PM you Merrick.

5 people get heavily loaded with conditions, I’d imagine. Cleansing is still rampant in zergs.

It never really mattered before because condition clearing is so rampant but if its enough conditions that a second or less of exposure is enough to kill you then there’s probably not enough cleansing around to help you. Unless they repriortize cleansing to take into account stack intensity over party and distance prioritization. Its an obscure case especially since if the lord is that loaded with conditions he will probably die soon anyway but I’m sure there will be lots of squeals of necro joy.

What happens now when two armies are fighting near a lord in wvw with no other npc’s around and a necro epidemics the lord? Do conditions applied by his side get copied out to enemy players, do all conditions regardless of which side applied them get copied to enemy players or does it not do anything? Should be interesting if the lord in stonemist has an insane amount of conditions with the caps removed and two sides are fighting over the cap and epidemic works on him.

Wrong. WvW is still probably the worst.

If something is toxic then a forum discussing it is at least 10X as toxic. Look at the unofficial WvW matchup forums. The official WvW forums were shut down because they were so toxic they didn’t want the hassle of monitoring them.

After weeks of the same IoJ, SoR, AR matchup the trolls finally ran out of steam but with GoM replacing SoR as fresh blood this week things are rolling again.

Melandru runes are expensive but in conjunction with the PVT gear (valk or cavalier when you have a decently trained group to back you up) You are extremely durable, as long as you can keep people blasting your fields.

I’m in Hamster’s guild and he is reliably one of the most durable people around including myself on a very tanky support guardian. Having a couple of water fields on command goes a long way. Its been very helpful as we have been trying to train up our guild for Zerg fighting to have a commander with access to fire, water and lightning fields. If you got a stable group with good elementalists in it, it might not matter as much but in pug zergs or if you are lacking in reliable elementalists, having a commander who can throw his own fields is great.
