This is what myself and many others experienced, thats server side, whether its an oversite in the code of overburdened servers I have no way to tell from my end, but it is definately not a fault of my more than adequate pc.
Server hardware difficulties, Networking difficulties and shaky execution of this entire event was pretty disheartening. The content was there, but half of it was busted.
This has become a standard in gw2, good content when and if it works. This event just went to extremes, hell every character I tried to take out for the event ended up locked out of the game totally until population in new area toned down and I was able to log back in, AFTER the event was over.
Allow me to clarify. My answer was specifically addressing the OP’s question about our new map, Southsun Cove. The content there does not count towards map or world completion.
Dropped 2% on my completion with new area added, discovering pois and wps in this new area I have gained 1% of it back so far. Maybe it was intended not to count but it appears it actually does count towrds the percent if not allready at 100%. The displayed counts for world completion are unchanged, just the percent is affected.
In response to both of you:
-There are many people like me that didnt participate because of extreme lag/disconnects and bugs. I would venture that I COULDNT participate even if I wanted to because of these issues. Just because I cannot afford the uber PCs as some people, makes me ineligible to experience the final event and thus the “food stamp chest” at the end?
Uber pc didn’t help…the lag/dc problems were server side.
I hate jumping puzzles, mostly because I suck at them:) They are a nice variety in the content but developing more of them at the cost of fixing broken content….
Been a while since I used it but Miyani used to warn you of this possibility and though rare I have seen a couple times with no item returned. At least it is allmost as rare an event as getting a truelly decent return.
It wouldn’t be an issue if people with alts partisipated in the event on their alts, but what happend was members found a person that was in an event active overflow, they then ran all of their alts to the spot where the chest spawns at the end of the event in an already event completed overflow.
Once the boss was killed and the chest was spawned, as the overflow servers capacity opend up, people were spam clicking join party on the person that was at the chest and they were then able to loot the chest with out ever hitting a mob before it despawned. This is pretty unfair to people that couldn’t even get to an active event once, not from the lack of trying, but because of server dc’s, capacity issue, an login issues. It seems as if anybody that was loged in over the period of the event are eligable for loot as the requirements were not to partisipate in the phase but merley click on the chest.
I have never seen an event that would let you loo tthe chest if you weren’t there participating in it, but yeah this would be a serious exploit. Personally I was able to get into the game again finally shortly afte rthe event ended, the corpse was visible but no chest so this doesn’t seem likely to me though I see a lot of posts about it.
Running multiple characters through an event is definately NOT an exploit. Yeah if they hadn’t it may have been easier for others to participate but that isn’t the players fault. If it had let me in I’d have ran all my alts too. Though I wouldn’t have done a create/delete to loot more as that does seem an exploit.
The fault with all the problems I see lies with A-net, they had a one time event with servers that couldn’t handle the participation level and then had free access on top of it which seriously increased the server load.
The only “fair” method of dealing with it I see would be to set up a method of every character that was previously in existence on a paid account prior to start of event to be able to recieve the same reward equivalent. Of course this will make big waves in the economy but I don’t see it being any more detrimental than the 2+ months of massive groups of bots that was neglected.
We run one-time events at the time where we have the highest concurrency.
That makes perfect sense, if you could actually handle the number of people trying to participate. Many of us were blocked from what appears to be an inability of the servers to handle the traffic.
Being dc’d likely due to just too many participating in event was annoying, having those characters locked out until after event was worse. But having absolutely no means to participate in a one time event with that level of reward is completely unjustifiable. A good idea, poorly thought out and poorly implemented.
What was the exploit? If you ran the event twice with the same character, you only got to pop the chest once. The second time, it was already open and non-interactable.
You could do it multiple times on different toons, you couldn’t loot the chest a 2nd time on the same character BUT you could quickly make a new one and do it again to loot it again.
Basically if you wanted multiple 20 slot bags/exotic loot etc you could simply create a level 1 toons really quick, get an invite to an active event and loot the chest – then afterwards do it again, and again etc.
Multiple toons would seem fine to me but if deleting making multiple lvl 1s and repeating that does seem liek an exploit to me. Though I don’t see how it could have been abused too much since it was extremely difficult to even get into the zone during event with so many participating.
Definately 3, the only reason I still play at all is there is no subscription.
This game was blatantly not ready for release, many features have never been fixed or even addressed, the majority that have been “fixed” repeatedly break.
It does have a lot of nice features, and a lot that looks like it would be good if it worked right, but… the shoddiness of implementation for the most part is very disappointing.
While I think these types of events are insanely awesome, and I would never discourage ANet from doing them, I have to say that for those of us who actually have responsibilities and such, these limited events suck!
Agreed but if the rewards or less excessive and/or alternately made available as the hat from mad king event was then at least its more reasonable.
With this event many who didn’t have outside issues weren’t even able to take part, the servers weren’t up to it.
Think the biggest issue have is even for those who didn’t get precursors and got lesser rewars, it was still fairly decent loot. And many were plain blocked from participation not due to their issues (work, life, etc…) but because the game itself couldn’t handle the people. So basically the rewards are more liek a first come first served reward or door prize. Probably wouldn’t be as much of an issue if they had actually posted participation was limited but it doesn’t appear they considered they weren’t anywhere near capable handling the number of people who tried to take part.
One time event makes some sense but not with the level of rewards this one gave. Many were dc’d and/or locked out likely due to so many people playing, free trial where a lot probably used the trial access for alternate accounts even. Taking away rewards as one suggested would be wrong, but availability of reward for people who couldn’t make it for whatever reason would make sense. As with the hat from the mad king event that was made available for peopel who missed due to events outside the game even. Many missed this due to servers inability to handle the traffic and its difficult if not impossible to verify who was blocked by it.
However it should be easy enough to check who recieved rewards or not and provide a means for the rest to recieve them too, per character not account based as the original was too.
After my third character got dc’d and locked out I simply gave up on the event, I like the game but am becoming increasingly disenchanted in what was not ready to be released and is increasingly becoming less functional of a game:(
I just completed it with no issues. I’ll keep looking, but if I can’t reproduce the issue, I can’t give an ETA for an update.
EDIT: I’m now 0/3 trying to get this bug to happen, so I’m at a dead end. What’s your current objective (if any)? Do you see Rytlock and/or Steelbane? Where are they?
Are you guys trying to replicate errors on live servers or a seperate test server? I allways see an inability to replicate and most of the storyline issues seem to occur after the servers have been up a while and work properly after a reset (for a while) then break again.
If you are using a seperate server then it isn’t dealing with the same problems a live server is.
reported this a few times myself quite a while ago, simply stopped using the sigil as it was only even questionable if it worked correctly, definately not worth using as is.
Prior to the 2 pois in LA I was at 86% when they were added I was still at 86, I grabbed them and still was at 86%. When the new area opened I dropped to 84%, I have heard a mix of percentages going up or down with this patch from other guildies. Whether intended or not it seems apparent the new area does effect the displayed percent. Yet the total numbers of points didn’t change.
Previously I had transmuted my mad memories complete with my quest back piece so that I could have the condition damage base stats. With the patch it has reverted to the base stats of my original back brace.
Not sure if this happened to other items as anything else I transmuted was for skin only, not any stat changes.
Running without any paramaters seems to be working for me now too. Allready miss the fov though:(
Both are correct pronunciations, sometimes in game you will see the same name or word pronounced differently by different characters. While I am guessing this was likely due to the voice actors themselves and not intended it actually suits better from my view making it more realistic. Never heard of the potato/tomato pronunciation arguments?
Sometimes you get good or bad streaks with drops, its difficult to tell if rates were nerfed off low kill counts.
For myself I try to get a sampling from 20+ repeats when its event chains or 1k+ kills on normal zone mobs. Even then it could be just luck or lack of but with just a few events or a coupel dozen kills you really can’t be sure at all.
If we could choose which ones to show individually this problem would vanish.
You can, the bottom left corner has an icon in the world map, click it and turn off everything else.
World completion turns on/off all of the completion icons, not individually. Frequently a waypoint or skillpoint wil hide a poi. If you could toggle each of those 3 icons individually thatwouldn’t be an issue.
Haven’t killed enough since patch to be 100% sure but the rates do seem to actually be worse.
MF seems a bit of a hoax to me, I have a full mf set with considerably over 200% when fully buffed, all exotics, 5 pirate 1 traveler superior runes, sup. lick sigil, lotus fries, guild bonus and banner, and mf booster pretty much max mf i believe. Tracking drops in this gear for 2k kills vs 2k kills with no mf and again 2k kills with only banner and food there is no appreciable difference in fine, masterwork, or rare drops from any source. If anything I do get less vendor trash/salvageable items when I have mf than without.
I regularly reskin my items on alts as they level up, hobby tinkerer is definately recurring. Using the hom rewards was fixed once, it would give you the hobby achieve once per day using them was it.
Didn’t lose any points on patch but I never did the hom reskin spam to get a bunch, some friends who did use it a bit lost a lot of points so guessing it is related.
2 common possibilities:
-jinx isle, you need to complete the events to get to the final poi and if i remember right it doesn’t even show up on map until you get fairly close to it,
versoconjouring array
-cathedral of eternal radiance, there is a poi underneath that some people don’t see for some reason, augur’s grotto
Also try zooming in and out on map while checking for undiscovered, sometimes they get covered by other icons. If we could choose which ones to show individually this problem would vanish.
I have reported this several times myself as a bug since it only occurs on the sword/dagger on my thied and is consistent. dag/dag dual doesn’t have the same issue. Also the sword/dag dual most often places yo uconsiderably outside of melee range of target instead of directly behind as it did in the first couple weeks.
I report this at least once a week and keep hoping it gets fixed.
Usually this just means it logged you out of the TP an dyou just need to relog into game to fix, but today its been recurring regardless. I have been unable to actually sell anything on the TP and every time I try this error occurs on my next attempted TP access.
Finally got it to work. I let the npcs do as much of the fighting as i could, when I got to the gate there was allrready a group of undead there this time and everything went properly after.
It would appear either the npcs need to take part to keep the script moving or that byt killing too fast I was causing something the script couldn’t cope with.
I just ran into this same issue on my ranger, 4 times in a row so far. I have ran over the entire area and nothing is attackable. I ge tthe first wave at the gate and nothing more.
This is running it solo, I am hearing the same thing from most of my friends too. I have done this quest previously on another with no problem, but it was right after a reset of zone.
If npcs spawning irregularly was what was causing this I should have been able to find them, and looking also shouldn’t be necessary as it should be a simple fix in the code just limiting spawn points.
Finally got it to work for me and the same method worked consistently for some friends who had it bugged too.
Don’t teleport or stealth, annoying but that seemed to make the waves start over so more to kill. Killing in the green circles didn’t seem to matter. After the third wave just stand there and wait until the boss is visible to you, not just the green mark on map. Moving out of the area before they were visible seemed to keep them from ever showing up.
All of these cautions may not be needed to make it work (none should be) but at least it will get it done so you can move along.
dungeons: not working, wrong exp, wrong # tokens, sp's bugged, events bugged
Posted by: Trillistar.4071
Is anyone from A-net checkign these? Support tickets and bug reports put in and no response and apparently no action at all.
We aren’t recieveing much if any information on the many problems limiting playability of the game.
Dungeons: currently on Sorrow’s Furnace we are workign on day 3 of AC and Arah being inaccessible, exp for dungeon completion both story and explorer is not allways awarded consistently, tokens are not awarded consistently, or even allways awarded.
Skill points, I have stopped even putting in tickets, it appears every zone has bugged skillpoints now and our server has at least 20 that I ran into within just the last 24 hours while leveling up alts.
Events, many escorts and gathering events have been stuck for 3+ days that I know of, hearing from others its been over 3 weeks.
Granted this game is dominantly pvp but it was stated this would be more pve friendly, but we are gradually losing more and more aspects of the game to disfunction.
And worse, getting no response.
Nvidia Black screen issues ('fix' not working)

I just pulled an 8800 out of a friends pc and put a 420 from his older machine in and this problem went away, it would be nice if we could get a list of all the cards having this issue. Kinda sucks but A-net may not be worried about it since it is basically an older card, if newer ones have the same issue then maybe we’ll get it solved. If you are liek me and luckily near a lot of used pc shops, you may be able to pick up a cheap card (such as the 420) that will work for now. Not optimal but you’d be able to play.
These are some simple things that have fixed common minor problems I run into within the game.
1) log out to character select-
this works for stuck in combat, can’t move, some issues with ui not responding
2) log out to the patcher/loader screen then log back in completely (or close/reopen game) -
if the trading post is telling you that you are not authorized this fixes it, and sometimes the guild/party issues. At a guess you are being logged out of the trading post when you sit too long on character select or are diconnected due to inactivity, relogging fixes it
3) for the more major but still individual problems, such as water is missing/invisible, not seeing yourself when stealthed, not seeing yourself when transformed or in a golem suit or similar, and not seeing special effect such as the tornado (also a transformation I guess.)-
***close game completely, the patcher/loader too, right click your shortcut, click “open file location”, delete the file gw2.tmp, restart game
The gw2.tmp file appears to be a caching file for the game that isn’t allways handled cleanly, if worried about the deletion, remember you can restore from recycle bin. The game rebuilds a new one on login though.
Anything I have seen that these simple steps doesn’t fix has so far been a server side issue that everyone suffers from.
I would appreciate dev/tech verification on the relevance of that gw2.tmp file though, just for personal info.

I run Nvidia myself since they tend to be very nice cards, but a long standing issue has been their current drivers are usually garbage. I run a step behind current most times, and on install for this game I was referred to a third party driver for my card that works wonderfully. When I recieved the notice of the latest Nvidia drivers I followed my previous policy and ignored it.
Not fresh in my mind what triggered the driver referral in game but it was likely an autodetect on settings in the video options.
The only issue I currently have at all that may be graphic related is the occasional loss of focus on mouse, hittin ESC and/or holding down mouse buttons 1 and 2 simultaneously (usually this is a soft pointer reset on mouse drivers) has fixed this so far.
What would it take to get 60 fps on minimum details?

Looked up the specs on your machine, it is a duo core 2.66ghz 4gb ram and a 512 mb 8800 gt video card. While this machine should run mos tgame sout there it will be minimally. First I’d run a speedtest of some sort, usually best through your ISP to make sure that isnt an issue. 30 fps is a non intensive environment is about all i’d expect from this machine though.
Maybe posting what your budget is may help. You can get a more game suitable machine for 3-400 bucks currently. More than likely your monitor will be fine unless you have an ancient crt:)
Suggestions if piecemealing it, get a 1GB video card, no need for 3d/sli/xfire etc, just a low end gaming card with 1gig preferably of gddr5. More ram, 8GB if board supports it, of fastest speed it supports. If you have a second pcx16 slot then a gaming ethernat card would make a noticeable difference over the built in (dependant on your connection).
