It has a 20% chance to reset a certain set of skills (venoms, signets, blabla).
It should say so in the description then. It clearly says it resets all the skills of one type. Not mentioning 20% at all.

As we are the weakest on regen and reduce incoming damage, stealth & mobility is our only way to survive
And enemies may interrupt us when we going to stealth

IS/SR needed a nerf, it acted as a stun break and a condition cleanse with no cooldown and 1200 range.
Warrior is my second main but he doesn’t even have a third of the play time I have on my Thief because they’re so easy to play. Which makes it really boring imo.
SR from sword is not a stun break

Long long time ago, thief is the only class with +25% moving speed
and after nearly all other class have it now, no buff on us

Every major update I am glad that I stopped investing in my thief. Still my favorite class but constant big nerfs are too much for me.
Hope it improves for the class but not holding my breath.

In fact, 1200 range shadowstep is not really too far to catch
I think it’s fair that we should be able to shadowstep to everywhere within 1200 range
just like warrior can leap though a gap that no one can jump though
now the shadowstep normally just bring us 1200 range far from enemies, when we can make that range with 3~4 heartseeker, and just sometimes we can use it jump up a hill to escape
Thief

Experts as stealth? I think we are just able to stealth

Initiative

Steal

I don’t see Backstab is so powerful, with that f****ng range and low damage
If we can damage a full armor Guardian 50%HP, I’ll said it’s powerful.
Don’t forget, they can regen, much faster than we make damage.
Shadow Step
With Shadow Step, thieves can teleport into the battle or away from danger. Thieves may only teleport where normal movement is possible and may not use it to teleport through a gate or other blocking area.
Yes Yes, We can teleport in to the battle,,away from danger..I’m in danger and I still need 1.5s to shadowstep away!! What do you think it may happen in 1.5s
As a conclusion,
Are Thieves good in rapid flurry powerful attack? No!!!
Are Thieves Expert of stealth? We are able to stealth but not Expert!!
Are Thieves agile? No!! We need 1.5s cast time to get away from danger!!!
Are Thieves Expert of surprise?? I’m sure!!

Like these suggestions. Will transform the class into one that gets respect for skill vs an annoying gimmick.

I have a better suggestion: anyone who complains about stealth learns to play the game, and everyone else ignores them until they do.

I like how it’s clear your main goal is to nerf stealth, common complaint. But you offer no stat changes to make up for it. If the thief stayed the same, 5 seconds of revealed would be disgustingly atrocious to their health. And revealed when stealth ends doesn’t make it any better. So now you want to punish those who need to heal right? God forbid last refuge procs…..
No, this is not nerfing stealth
just trying to rebuild a stealth system to force revealed (instead of perma-stealth)
As my opinion, stealth can offset revealed time, but stealth time cannot stack
it will make a thief must revealed everytime he use a stealth skill
he may use another skill trying to offset revealed time and stealth again
but it will be more easy to control his stealth time or cost to control it
In Major, I’m just trying to destroy perma-stealth and keep stealth a balance.
You should know it, I also suggest Meld should be +50% time.
As usual, these suggestions seem to want to rewrite the entire thief class to prevent repeated finishers in a smoke field. Anet will eventually find a solution that is much more limited and they should have found one already.

C&D has 3s stealth only, adding Meld, 4 & 1/2s
and you will have about 1s stealth or even not stealth if you use it after a BS
And you must be remind, it cost you 6
and if it is OP, it’s easy to change the cost or stealth time

Goal of changes:
1. Destroy perma-stealth
2. Balance weapon skill power with Reasonable initiative usage
Changes:
A) Stealth system
1. Stealth time cannot be stack anymore
2. Shadow refuge now have 4s duration that give anyone step into it 10s stealth
3. Every time a stealth end will give revealed 3 seconds(4 in pvp)
4. Attacking to end stealth give 2 seconds extra revealed time
5. using a stealth skill will offset revealed time 1:1
e.g.(when you have 4 seconds revealed time,
you use shadow refuge and gain 10 seconds stealth,
4 second offset revealed time,
and you get 6 seconds stealth)
6. Combo (Smoke + Leap/Blast) now function with the Meld with Shadows trait
B) Weapon skills
1. Death Blossom :
-Change it to a single target skill
-increase base damage and remove bleeding
2. Body shot :
-Vulnerable change to 4 stacks for 10 seconds
-remove immobilize
3. Larcenous Strike:
-reduce initiative cost to 1
4. Unload
-decrease the base damage
-give 8 stack of Bleeding(2s) to 1 target
-increase initiative cost to 6
C) Traits
1. Meld with Shadows:
Change the stealth time increase from 1 second to 50%

What I can see is a rubbish want to win in every fight but don’t want to use an anti-stealth trap even he is facing 3 thieves…go and play solo game and you will be king.
I like playing Assassin or Thief in every game since RO.
I love high crit chance, high Flee(dodge in GW2), Stealth since I played RO.
And before I buy GW2, I read many information about Thief, video & skill details.
I love GW2 thief because they have highest burst , stealth & mobility.
However, everything turns into Nightmare since I really play in WVW
1) Highest single target burst? Warrior can do much better
2) Highest mobility? Why can’t I catch a running Ele?
3) Stealth? What can I do in stealth? attack and show myself? wait for HP regen while Enemies skill CD too? Run like a rat? Look for a chance to BS that can’t kill anyone not GC?
Maybe Run like a rat is the best choice to stay alive, but still, they will said: Thief is OP, they can run away in stealth!!!

Since you’re obviously intimately experienced with thief mechanics!
- Name every single thief weapon skill that provides KB/KD/Blowout
- Name every single thief weapon skill that provides daze over .5s
- Name every single thief weapon skill that provides fear
- Name every single thief weapon skill that provides Daze over .5
- Name every single thief weapon skill that provides immobilize over 1s.That list looking a little light? I wonder why?.
Thief is the profession which suffer from stuns the least.

There is a difference between damage and damage per second. Yes thief can hit 10k with one strike, but a warrior can out dps a thief over time.
If you compare DPS, Warrior is far away from thief
If you compare single hit damage, don’t forget Warrior’s Rife F1
What we have is nerfed stealth and nerfed Shadow Step/Return
No Thief is balanced

I would agree with you if there were any threads even discussing traps in the Mesmer forum…It seems that the only Mesmers that really see it as a issue are here in the Thief forums…
Well, I’m just saying that this trap is very unfair to all thief.
We can have a lot of stealth skill but all waste when we tigger the trap.
And it’s 30sec, not 10sec.
I suggest 2 ways to make it more fair to us:
1) make the revealed time 10sec.
2) make revealed status can be discharge by a stealth skill, so that we may use all of our stealth skill to make us stealth again

Mesmer isn’t a class need stealth to survive or doing damage.
There isn’t a anti-clone trap in WVW to stop a mesmer from making clones.
But major damage from a thief is hidden attack, from stealth of course, major survival skill for a thief is also stealth.
Or are you meaning that anti-stealth can make Thief useful in zerg fight??

I don’t think that it’s as important as everybody seems to rage about. It doesn’t make you “useless” to take away your stealth for 30s, just pull out a short bow and attack from a range – this is more effective in a large-scale WvW fight, anyway, especially playing as a squishy thief. As a roamer, it isn’t going to be a problem, as you will rarely encounter a trap if you stay off the roads.
As zerg, we are forced to use range weapon, it is a problem.

If you say that: I can still do some damage in zerg, that’s enough for me.
You accept to be a weaker, that’s you, not me. I’m not asking for make thief stronger, but only need to be fair.
It will be more fair if the trap isn’t making us reveal but make all skill unable to use for 30s. At least I won’t feel the nerf target is me.
But that can still make me unable to stealth

It would be better if everyone (all classes) excepted the fact that they are not as good as they think they are and take their own death as a lesson for being unprepared.

stealth skill should be able to decrease the time of revealed
as we may have a 30s of reveal now

Thief is totally going into a wrong way now
so many thief with high EHP, unkillable.
But this in not a thief should be.
I have been mainly playing Thief, Assassin or similar classes in other games for many years.
Before I purchase GW2, I read many information about thief,
and I learn that thief should be the best profession to burst a single target.
And they have Stealth & Shadowstep, traded by low defensive abbility.
This is the reason I purchase GW2.
Howevery, when I’m still playing thief today, I do feel I have hightest single burst damage. Look at those Warriors, much more higher Burst & DPS.
Oh, maybe it’s right, their burst is AOE, not single, so we are still highest in single, is that right? kitten!!!
I can see a thief burst for about 25k damage in about 5 second, but in the same time Warrior can do 30-40k….and they have more HP.
What we have is only Stealth, which doesn’t add armor but still can be hit, and end when we attack. Oh, Shadowstep…with a short range only about 1000. many movement can go that far, it’s not so useful unless we stealth for 1-2 sec for each shadowstep(main purpose is to make enemies lost target, just like Mesmers’)
I don’t see any problem using burst to kill only 1 people with a long CD.
it’s 45s CD to do our next attack.
And mostly, we are just going to die just after killing that 1 people only in a group fight.
What’s the problem then?

I don’t mind to reveal when I miss my BS,
but only under 1 of these conditions
1) BS do 30k damage to everything
2) no damage on us under stealth
3) BS damage is 2x buffed
4) reveal time shorten to 1sec
5) we can auto-stealth when we are are not in combat

I suggest adding an F2 skill, share the same CD with F1
and the effect is something defensive, such as stealth for 1-2s, a backward shadowstep or something that can help us survive
I always think venom is not good skill
because no matter how many stacks you give
they can clear all stacks in one time
What about make it charging and consume 1 charge when use?
and we need to press it once for each time we want to use, and consume 1 charge
oa maybe can also change the cooldown using charging
when you equip the skill there is 0 charge, and got 1 charge after a few seconds
(e.g. equip basilisk venom and after 45s you will have 1 charge to stun,9s for each charge for spider)
and this can make the poison can really help to slow regen
or the Devourer can make immobilize whenever we want to
and for now, I just think all venom look like just have 1 tigger when we use…

They felt it needed to be nerfed so they nerfed it. I don’t see the problem. They could have just shaved off the 2k damage it deals but instead they added 2k healing to ease the burn. Sure the healing won’t do much and the damage nerf sucks but the nerf could have been a lot worse.

Actually, you get higher DPS on initial attack within cloaked state. Which is pretty kitten! And of course the thief will have a lower defense, it wears medium armor kitten … it would be hilarious if it had more defense. Or imagine a thief with heavy armor, like … seriously?
I for one love to have thieves around in my groups, I don’t like berserker thieves.

In fact it’s not really high DPS for a stealth attack,
but it’s really low armor…..
and I’m a berserker thief, I don’t see any problem to dodge every attack from COF P1 boss….it’s so easy to dodge…

The reason they are only welcoming Warrior is because Warrior is easiler to make more DPS and keep alive.

I joined a group didn’t say thief is forbidden
I’ve try forming group but sometimes joining is faster
And every group that has played with me know a good thief can be better than a warrior, but how can someone who kick me because I’m a thief see that?
Finally, I’m not complaining players who kick a thief, but complaining Anet why setting Warrior to be better
