I’m surprised nobody noticed that instead of 30% CD reduction on shatter recharge the most we can get now is only 15%.
For Mind Wrack it’s not a huge deal but we are going to be standing around staring at timers ticking down and swearing alot waiting for the other shatter skills…
I am currently running a hybrid shatter build exactly like what you are looking for.
You need to go 4/4/0/0/6.
I am on my phone right now so I will keep this short…
I use staff and sword/torch.
Take the 20% damage boost to MW and boon strip on shatter in domination.
Sword cd and DE in dueling.
In illusions take either the 3% damage per illusion or 33% confusion duration traits (preference), extra bounce trait and of course MTD.
In PvP I use celestial ammy and traveler runes. You can try other runes to boost damage but I hate running in slow motion…. besides you will be doing insane damage anyways.
Decoy, mirror images are mandatory. The 3rd slot you can take whatever you feel like… Blink/portal/condi cleanse etc. I personally use signet of domination mostly to boost condi damage because I find I have no need for a cleanse. Between sword 2, torch 4, F4, decoy and mass invis you really should not be gettimg hit much at all with some practice… while dealimg insane AOE pressure.
I have been planning to do a proper writup and build thread for this type of “celestial” Mesmer build but havent got around to it. Trust me though it KICKS kitten . Thieves are no problem… in fact I never lose 1v1 against any class unless outside influences disrupt the fight.
It works great for roaming in WvW too with some modifications to traits and gear.
Thieves are getting nerf (right or wrong; that is a matter of opinion but the nerf is coming). They basically took thieves ability to fight 1vX. Can they still do it? Yes, but it will be 10x harder with the upcoming changes.
Since Ele is the only other class that can reliably 1vX, thief player will probably flock to the D/D Ele and we will see a surge of them in WvW. QQs will continue on the forum and the Ele will get nerf. The FOTM was thief, now it will be D/D ele, then so on. The problem is that after the FOTM is over, the class is left underpowered.
What’s your prediction after the March 26 patch?
How do you know Thief will be nerfed? Are you just guessing or is there detailed info on the patch somewhere?
Still levelling my mesmer but the outfit already final. Just need to find some appropriate weapons.

Please fix the Nightmare Torch.
As you can see by my screenshot the flame isn’t inside the torch… it’s way off centre.
Pretty dissapointed after spending 210 tokens on it =(
Can someone please fix this? It’s probly the easiest bug you will ever fix. Just centre the flame inside the torch. =/
Just for clarification. It’s the Nightmare Torch., bought with Bloom tokens from Twilight Arbor dungeon.

I think fixing this skill would really help balance condition thieves in WvW. I bet you would hear alot less complaints about them.

The Thief skill Caltrops is severly bugged making it extremely over powered.
Bug #1. When cast from stealth this skill does NOT reveal the thief. They remain stealthed.
Bug #2. When cast from stealth there is no red circle indicating the AOE.
Bug #3 The skill actually applies 2 stacks of bleed per second instead of the 1 stack per second like it should…. thus making this skill do DOUBLE the damage it was intended to do.
So when you take that it all into perspective a thief can cast Caltrops from stealth without revealing themselves, his victim(s) cannot get out of the area because they have no idea where the AOE is and the skill does double damage.
This skill is routinely abused by Cloak and Dagger spamming, condition focused theives. It is severly overpowered.
Please fix this immediately.

Cloak and Dagger needs to be severely nerfed. I can’t believe Anet has allowed this skill to go unchecked for so long.

Its funny how all of you just completely ignored what the OP said and posted what you wanted instead. The spirit of his post was that he wants movement speed that is not tied to a weapon we only use begrudgingly because it is our only ability that gives a reliable source of swiftness. I personally share his opinion. I recognize how good focus #4 is, but I still prefer pistol off hand because of iDuelist. I can’t help but be irked when I see all the other professions with multiple ways to get swiftness and mobility…that do not require one specific off hand weapon as the only choice. Personally, I think they should make signet of inspiration give a passive 25% run speed in addition to the random boon it generates every 10 seconds. That way we can actually have a choice of runes to use instead of being locked into centaur runes.
I would give my left nut for a passive speed boost from Signet of Inspiration. Hell… 15 or 20% would do… ANYTHING is better than being forced to use Centaur runes.
BTW didn’t they just UPGRADE the run speed boost to a bunch of other classes signets a few patches ago? Why are Mesmers being singled out?

Just picked up a Heavy Armageddon Breastplate in a fractal chest, it’s tool tip says soulbound on use…I’ve not used it and it’s refusing to let me sell it
I have a pair of exotic boots from fractals that is the same way. It appears some exotic gear from there is “account bound” for some silly reason.

Caltrops casting reveal would 100% break condition thieves due to them being permanently unable to use stealth pretty much ever. Which is why is functions as it does now. It’s working as intended ~ You can see it without the aoe circle, and the dodging one is tiny range.
Condition thieves are so OP its rediculous so fixing this skill would by no means “break” thieves. Attacking from stealth is supposed to reveal you. So no it is NOT working as intended.
No you cannot see the tiny caltrops on the floor in all terrain. All other AOE’s have a red circle for a reason. Why shouldn’t caltrops? Also, you can’t dodge what you can’t see… and the area of effect of caltrops is actually as large an AOE as it gets in this game….
Double the bleed stacks needs to be fixed also.
Bleed stacks do not prevent you from stealthing again after they are applied so I don’t understand why you think a Thief wouldn’t be able to stealth.

Nothing wrong with CnD. Like Brando said, AOE still hits, snares still hit, DoT still does dmg, conditions still endure. If we attack out of CnD then we have the 3 second revealed debuff and cant cloak again at all for three seconds, which is plenty of time to tie up a glass cannon thief with a single knockdown/cripple/root.
It also takes half of our initiative and that really limits burst. Especially if you need to have the init for another cloak.
The only problem with any stealth skill is the culling. And you can apply that to a host of skills of any class. I have been ganked plenty by 100b warriors, or completely locked down by guardians that I couldn’t see until I was long dead.
Leave thieves alone and just fix culling.
How can you say all is well when there are thieves killing whole groups of people while being stealthed 80% of the time?

Please keep it constructive. Theives don’t need to be “nerfed hard”. Some abilities just need slight adjustments.
I seriously can’t believe that after months of complaining by 90% of the player base that the skill Cloak and Dagger hasn’t been adjusted. I play a thief (amoung other classes) and I love it. BUT this is something that needs to be fixed.
Most Thieves who abuse it will freely admit it needs adjustment.
I mean seriously… lone thieves taking out parties of 3-4-5? Being in stealth 80% of the time is OP no matter how you look at it.
Suggestions:
- Reduce stealth to 2 seconds instead of 3.
- Increase initiative cost to 8.
- Give the skill a cooldown timer of 8-10 seconds.
Or some combination of the above.
