I know that 100 Blades will hit 12 times, and show up 12 times in the combat log.

Curious that you would know that, since it only hits 9 times.

Sorry, had been playing my Ranger, and just used a number I had seen lately.

I also considered that I used (Warrior) Rush as a closer, and may have been in melee range long enough for the mob to actually attack me 5 times. I do notice that Rush will sometimes start moving then stall and then continue toward the target.

First a disclaimer, I came from WoW. In WoW, the combat log makes it fairly easy to see exactly why a person died in combat. In GW2, I see that the combat log does not track condition damage, nor does it give a timestamp more granular than minutes.

On to my question. Are PVE mob combat mechanics different than WvW/PVP mechanics? When fighting another player, every combat ability is known, simply by knowing the class. I know that 100 Blades will hit 12 times, and show up 12 times in the combat log. I know when a 1 second plus hard hitting ability is being queued up, and know to avoid it.

In PvE however, I am regularly coming across abilities that seem to work oddly, like the image posted. The example shows an attack from a Champion Toxic Warlock in the Tower of Nightmares. I died instantly even before I was even in melee range of him.

His attack was Life Blast, a chain autoattack that cleaves up to 3 players and adds a bleed. It hit me 5 times instantly doing 23,000 damage. Autoattack abilities from players have cast time frames between them, so they are easy to judge, but not so with PvE mobs. I have had mobs do a large, slow, animated hammer swing from left to right that I would assume would hit once, but have hit up to 10 times instantly, delivering upwards of 100,000 damage.

So, is this normal?
Are there any in depth articles about combat mechanics other than what’s on the wiki?

In a game where leveling is so mind numbingly boring it increases the risk for brain cancer by 80%, I don’t see why this is a bad thing.

How is leveling mind numbingly boring, when the end game exists of exactly the same content?

8 points?

Edited my other post as you were replying.

Maybe I’m just bad at math. 400 to 500 is ~2.4 Million CXP. That’s ~480 Discoveries.
7 Weapons, 9 Prefixes, 3 qualities is about 190 weapons. What do I do for the rest?

Its possible to lvl weaponsmithing from 400-500 without using Orichalcum but only using t5 mats.

I tested it myself 2 weeks ago just to prove a point that you dont need to forge a single exotic weapon to get to 500.

That being said, it is not the cheapest way to get to 500 because usually the resale profit of sentinel or sentinel destroyer weapons is just too big to ignore.

Care to give me your secret? I’m at 453 and everything except exotics went grey at 425.

Discovery of blue, green and yellow lvl 80 weapons still give 4k-5k cxp.

That’s about 8 points. Still waiting to hear Wanze’s method.

Clockwork Horror is not the name of the final boss. Cleaned your Clockheart is the achievement for killing him.

I ran into this issue last night after a power outage at my home.
Open getting back into the game, the BLTC looked like a broken HTML page, without the CSS loading, just text, and blue underlined links.

I tried everything posted so far in this thread to no avail. After a few hours, I realized that the time was off on my computer, due to a dead CMOS battery. Resetting the system time to the correct date, the BLTC once again worked.

I assume it has to do with root certificate dates not matching up with what the game is looking for.

Yea, i knew he was there, but i couldn’t think of another major figure off the top of my head. At least, not one that impacted the original story the way he did.

Okay, I am going to beat a dead horse here. But as a player that focuses mainly on endgame raiding content in MMOs, i would like to see something added that truly feels like a raid. I have come up with some ideas that i think Anet could make work.

  1. - Zone sieges —-Each week (or other reset time), a town crier is positioned in the front of each major city. He speaks of a great evil that has arisen in a specific zone. you will need at minimum of 7 people to ward off the attack/invasion, or to attack a post. The event is much like a story line quest, only those who enter can participate. It will scale with the number of people, much like events do, up to a max of 25 people. The way that this would work is as follows. Each zone in game has a/some potential zone sieges. (I will use Kessex Hills for my example.) Lets use some zone possibilities – A major, well planned, centaur attack, an attack of risen from the swamp, bandits kidnapping a high value target, or even Draithor taking hold and sweeping across the lands. So looking back, that is one zone, with 4 possibilities, think of the total number that could be possible! If it was random there would be a slight chance of doing the same attack each week. (or whatever the reset may be) with different awards for each possibility.
  1. Raid based dungeon—- A dungeon with an actual raid atmosphere, with a major end boss to defeat. Scaled much like a zone siege, these will reset weekly. With very high quality gear (armor and weapons) as drops. I am a firm believer of raids being difficult, so i think there should be a “keying quest” or a quest line that must be finished to enter the dungeon but that is just me. Once entered you can expect very difficult mobs… Resist gear should take a role, such as, take less burning damage per tick, or chilled doesn’t last as long, ect. Some possibilities are of course – Dragon lieutenants, a destroyer attack, flame legion stronghold, ect. I also thought that perhaps each current dungeon could have a raid associated with it. Ascalonian Catacombs could have a section titled “Ruriks tomb” where you must go put Prince Rurik to rest. (keying for this would be simple to input simply make a quest to go light scepters in the story line mode, and poof, keyed.)

I am a firm believer in the fact that i created a hero, I want to feel like one. I want to defeat some scary enemies, in epic locations. Let me know what you think. I have thought both options out quite a bit, if there is a question about something, ask me, i will explain. As for right now, i didn’t have enough time to go into full detail.

Thank you for reading.

Multiple Accounts

I have a question, i have 2 accounts, i bought my first one, and it got hacked within days of purchasing, and this was during the time when everyone was getting hacked. At the time, i wasn’t sure if i would ever get that account back. So i bought a second account, which has become my main account. My questions are #1 – is there anyway to un-link the first account from my original guild wars account so that i can get my hall of monuments awards? #2 – I have multiple friends that are interested in the game, can i use my second account as like a trial account for them? so that maybe they can decide if it is worth them purchasing? I know you aren’t supposed to sell accounts or share them, but i would not sell it, and it would just be used sparingly for trial purposes between very trusted friends.

Just to add to this, because i feel the same way, With the different weather conditions, provide buffs or debuffs accordingly, but nothing ground breaking. Like for perfect sunny weather, maybe run 5% faster, in snowy conditions attack 3% slower, in rain fire spells are less effective, but lightning spells are more effective…ect. would make the game more interesting.
Just my 2 cents.

I have to agree here. Two handed axes are one of the best looking arts in most other mmos. think of the amazing skins they could come up with. Not to mention, some very sweet skills.

Aside from all of that, do you ever feel yourself wanting to do a raid like experience? Going from wow, to here, makes me feel like something is missing. I understand all of the things that can be done at the end of the game. But is it epic enough? Your character builds this impressive story line to be a great hero, but in then end, were you satisfied with the outcome? I would like to see a bunch of heroes fight a massive, multi-part battle against each elder dragon. Because if my character is a hero, i want a heroes ending….? I’m not sure if that makes sense, and perhaps once i get to the end of the game (I am level 42, haven’t had enough time to hit 80) maybe it will all make sense. But so far, i am having a blast. there are a few concepts from GW 1 that i wish they would bring back. (being able to unlock more weapon skills being #1) but all in all, it is far more entertaining than wow even was at the very beginning.
Thank you all for listening/reading my random thoughts. Sorry if i ramble on.

Okay, i’m sure this has been beaten like a dead horse, and i may be blind, but i have been away from GW2 since about 3 days after launch, and in an area without internet, so i have been unable to follow the progress and updates of the game. I have recently restarted, and have been searching the forums for some time now looking for evidence of possible PvE end game content. I have found information about fractals and of course dungeons. As well as crafting, exploration, ect. However, i am more interested in end game content of the more traditional style, raiding ect. (i know this is a PvP/WvW based game but still interested) Lets be honest here, this game and its mechanics are very refreshing, they have done so much right. I have played multiple mmos, much like everyone has, and i really badly want to stick with this one. So if someone could simply point me in the correct direction of where to read some literature that may satisfy me, i would very much so appreciate it.

TLDR: Can’t find any end game information, please point me in the right direction?
