For me: Every time i try out ranger, i’ll die because of how boring the animations and gameplay feels. There is not a single weapon rangers can use, that i like to play with.
I would love some light armor without a skirt attached to every chestpiece for females….
Seems like SoftLight doesn’t like efficiency much…
… Do you really believe an answer “Do whatever you want” helps the discussion?
A discussion about efficiency an a game, where no hard enrages exist and nothing stop you from finishing a dungeon is pointless.
Thanks A-Net. One well paying customer lost.
Thief =/= Assassin
More of an assassin than monk…
No matter how bad thiefs are, i will continue playing. Tried different classes (warrior, ranger, necro, guardian) but nothing is satisfying enough.
You obviously didn’t try mesmer >.>
I’m not a player who plays a class because it’s fotm. I need a minimum of personal interest in playstyle and a favoured class theme to have fun.
I also never playing any “mage” class in any mmo, even if they are op as kitten (which is true in most games…)
A thief is so far away from a monk…
I think it’d be weird having to buy HoT and use an elite spec to improve core weapon. My bet is that none of the elite spec traits will affect pistols no matter what.
It might have synergy with pistol sure, but traits directly affecting it? Unlikely.
It will end up that you’ll better buy HoT. No company cares about people who want to stay behind for the sake of staying behind.
I have still a little hope, that the elite spec is for rifle and could have some traits that affect pistols. The whole mess about pistols is depressing.
I’d also like to add that I’ve personally never heard of thieves not having 1,200 range being a problem until this Staff vs Rifle war came about!
For me, it was always a problem. It sucks, not having any long range in certain encounters where everyone and his grandma can reach the target, while you standing nearby doing nothing.
I would like to see some changes in combat visuals regarding boss mechanics. Often you see the red circle, but you will get damage even if you aren’t standing in them. Or the wave from tequatl encounter, you get knocked back before the wave hits your toon.
Unlimited Transmutation
Its not the fact its fractals, its the fact that there isn’t a choice, not everyone plays fractals and not everone plays pvp but each area of the game has a way to get the parts needed to craft a legendary. Anet always said earn rewards the way you want gto play, so far there have until this.
If i want to craft a specific legendary, i have to do certain things that i don’t like and can’t be earned on multiple ways. Dungeon Reagents, Gift of Exploration, needed crafting professions etc…
Since legendary items offer the same stats as ascended items, there is no need to hunt for it except the skin.
I’m more interested in more faces that doesn’t look like anime/metrosexual/babyface.
I simply don’t see any room for staffs, because everything that would be useful is already brought by our current weapon sets.
Look at the reaper for instance it no where near fixes the necromancer’s major issues but provides a new play style.
Necro has limited access on serious 3 – 5 target cleave aoe weapon wise.
Why is it such an issue to be the only class not to have access to long range weapon?
Why is it not an issue that all other classes have long range options?
No matter how bad thiefs are, i will continue playing. Tried different classes (warrior, ranger, necro, guardian) but nothing is satisfying enough.
I’m curious about where the picture comes from. It looks like it’s part of a bigger picture and I’d like to see the rest.
No, it’s one of the images that are used in the background in traitlines. Same size as other background images.
Rifle. I don’t need another melee option with a weapon that i don’t like in any mmo.
I imagine the reason they can’t is because it would require them to keep a copy of every single deleted character in case the creator wants it back. That would be a huge amount of data to copy and store for a relatively niche service (I think in the entire time the game’s been out I’ve seen 3 or 4 people ask for this).
No software company is doing hard deletes in databases. Everything is saved with a deleted flag.
Doubt that this is a berserker.
To be honest: Yes, i want the rifle because of how bad our range options are. Fix them and all staff junkies can have staffs to cosplay kitten mowl the whole time.
Ranged options… wait, shortbow is a ranged weapon, I always though of it as AoE/Utility… there is no sensible way to make it a proper ranged weapon with good damage without changing majority of the skills on it completely.
P/P is really the only ranged weapon for thief that doesn’t inherently drop our DPS through the floor (don’t get me wrong P/P is no match for D/D at all, but when it comes to ranged weapons where the range is actually useful it is basically the only choice).
Shortbow is an annoying abortion of a ranged weapon. Yes it has good utility but it’s simply no fun to play with for me.
Bring ricochet back + 1200 range for pistols and i’m fine.
However… it seems that people want Rifle Theif because Dual Pistols and Shortbows are bad on Thief. Wouldn’t it make better sense to fix DP and Shortbows instead of leaving them “bad” and putting Rifle Thief in as a bandage?

Also, what leaks? There are no “leaks.”
They freak out and hype staff thiefs because of this image:
You are grasping at straws here.
Not really. The whole discussion about staffs is. There are too much (good) reasons why thiefs don’t get one.
- Ranger is getting one already
- Rifle would fill the space for long range combat
- Rifle wouldn’t hurt the current dual skill system
- Ricochet gone (no increased range for pistols anymore, so a new range option is even more important)
- Thiefs are deadly killers, not stick wielding monks. It will simply not fit the class theme.
- Thiefs already have a wide toolset of melee options. Staffs wouldn’t add something gamechanging, unless you want a change for the sake of change.
Chances are high that if it’s not the rifle, the thief will get an offhand sword instead of a staff. Sword offhand isn’t used for an additional elite spec currently. Engineers won’t get it since they only have the pistol main hand. That would feel weird. Also they have the rifle and the preview is showing that they get the hammer. Warriors already have sword offhand AND rifle. So whats left? Not much. Rangers will get the staff for sure, everything else is revealed.
Thiefs aren’t really magical based, so scepter/focus won’t it be. Axes and maces aren’t practical for a thief (my opinion). The only thing left would be the torch. Could work, but i have my doubts if it fits the theme in a logical way.
Yeah cause Rifle will work perfectly with the dual skill system :p
Rifle = range combat (like shortbows u know)
I was sceptical about the staff thieves at first, but I think it makes sense. I still hope that they get rifles at some point, but a staff isn’t bad. It’s a two-handed melee option, something they’ve never had. Moreover, if Anet wants to introduce more melee staff moves apart from Revenents, thieves are probably the best way to do it, apart from maybe warriors.
Staff would go against the dual skill system thiefs currently have. Rifles would fill a space thiefs currently lacking (long range damage). Thiefs lost the ricochet trait which means no increased range anymore. These are strong reasons for the rifle.
Based on the current needs for thiefs, staffs wouldn’t fit or help in any case.
We should just start a thread on why we all really just want off hand sword plox. Right everyone?
why not focus!
Because thiefs are far away from magic?
Yeah, going into complete invisibility and shadow-stepping is not magical at all!
Mechanics to adapt the nature of a class to simulate a hidden killer in a fast paced game is everything but a dedicated magic school.

Thanks yolo swaggins. You nailed it!
what’s to prevent giving the same weapon to another elite spec?
Nothing, but it would feel very lackluster to give two medium classes the same weapon at the same time. There are enough staff using classes, there is no need to have more of them.
Staff would be the most stupid weapon i can imagine. There is simply no need for that. 6 of 9 classes will using staves, 2 of 9 classes currently using rifles. Also thiefs lacking in the long range department. And last but not least: How lame would it be to give rangers AND thiefs both the same weapon? A staff would be so far away from the class concept, i kitten brix if that’s coming.
The datamined stuff is pretty compelling evidence.
It means nothing.
There’s a reason rifle is the less used weapon : it’s cause it has no style nor class ! Engineer at least made something useful out of it by turning it into a shotgun :p
That’s a highly subjective view about “style”. Thiefs lacking in the long range department.
No………….!
Bye.
Staff thief would kill my motivation. In every game i play, the least possible character for me is a staff wielding melee…
I don’t get it why people want this so bad…
Melee staff would be totally awkward. I don’t get it why people think thieves feels like ninjas. There isn’t any staff that looks like a melee weapon. Also i don’t think they make completely new animations for staff wielding.
I still think rifle will be the weapon.
I don’t like rapiers nor katanas. A simple non glowing sword fits best to me.
Simply use d/p. #3 for porting from mob to mob with extra blind and good opening damage. #5 for black powder which makes you nearly invincible. Few auto attacks and (i you want) 1 heartseeker at 20%. It’s so easy, give it a try. You will be surprised.
/repeat till 80
Same here, all NPCs are friendly instead of aggressive. Tried leave/join the quest again but it doesn’t work.
Havin the same problem. Sometimes a skill is fired twice without spamming the button.
Great gameplay. Leveled some classes (thief, ranger, necromancer, guardian) but warrior is pure fun for me.
Last time i heard about that, was nearly 21%
The concept of lowering levels to match area would be that your power is lowered to try and match as close as possible to average for that level. There is very little reason to be a god amongst mere mortals in the low level zones. You are still doing at least twice the damage of any of the people actually of that level. The gold you spent on your gear was for your ability to work within your OWN tier. I have never been happy with the sheer power curve of exotic clad down leveled as it makes it a bit less fun running with my low level friends when I one and two shot everything.
Trust me, your still doing pounds more damage than anyone else at that level.
I think, there should be a noticable advantage if you have very high gear in a low level zone. I liked how it was. If it has to be “close as much” to an equal low level player then the existence of stat based gear is a reasonable question.
No. I don’t want to have caps. I want to invest my time like i want, not being forced to login every day.
