Hi again,

Issue resolved for me.

There is a possible chance that catalyst control centre (ccc) may not be stable on install.

Try this;

1, Uninstall CCC and driver – a complete uninstall and not just a delete.
2, Shut down PC – no restart.
3, Go have a cuppa!
4, Switch PC back on.
5, Download the latest not beta CCC and driver direct from AMD.
6, Do a complete new install from the downloaded CCC / driver.
7, Restart GW2 and hope for the best.

As for Flawless, using it is by far the least desirable solution (fine product as it is). Also, I’m not sure when Hayden last updated Flawless for GW2. I’m not saying to not use Flawless – just that I do not think you should have to.

Good luck and I hope you get this sorted soon.

So! The closing post from me – AN please feel free to close the thread but leaving it in place not deleted could be of use to others.

You forum folk are great. Thanks for the replies.

I got my second GFX card and further memory as I wrote about earlier and now have crossfire working fine.

As usual when changing GFX device(s), I uninstalled the drivers before the change and reinstalled after.

The problem remained so I switched the PC off hoping to come back and sort the issue later.

As is want to happen, a mate called wanting to borrow some PC components – for the room where my main PC is read ‘Place where old computers go to pieces’!

Anywho, long story short, I gave my old eyefinity card to my mate and showed him the basics of using catalyst control centre to set up eyefinity by deleting my presets and setting eyefinity back up. I went on to show how GW2 was great looking in eyefinity but not working as expected just now. Egg – Face – Contact!

Glad to report GW2 is happily chugging away with no eyefinity issues – character select scales great, ui elements in good place and all is happy.

Reinstall of drivers? Win 8.1 throwing its dummy out of the pram? Luck of the draw? Me trying to sort issues out when too tired though I should (and usually do) know better? Either way, its all sauteed now.

After thirty plus years tinkering and proper experience including college and (some) in the workplace, many built and maintained PCs and other general ignorance I really ought to know better than to ‘panic’.

the -uispanallmonitors function should fix the ui issues, though i think scaling was fixed awhile ago

other things you could try: deleteing the local settings file, rolling back/clean installing drivers, doing a clean install of the game (as a last resort)

Do the problems still occur with in Fullscreen Windowed mode?

sry, i use nVidia surround and it seems support for it is slightly better than eyefinity.

You could always go for flawless widescreen as it supports gw2.

I’ll answer this before posting a closing post.

I was surprised to see issues as I know they were resolved a long time ago.

As for roll backs / clean installs – I may not have been clear about the PC being essentially a new build using a few parts from the old. OS and drivers are completely new – that said read my next post.

Problems were present in full screen windowed.

GW2 has always had better Nvidia surround support compared to eyefinity. I have posted previously about this a lot when I played regular.

Flawless (more or less) emulates Nvidia surround on eyefinity systems for GW2. I did briefly try Flawless anew to check the issue but it did not work. Also, I do not want to use any third party fixes.

Thanks for the reply – it would have been useful except that the problem is fixed (see closing post) and it did make me think on some points.

I have tried setting the interface size to small and all other settings and it does not fix the problem at all for me.

Update: completed verify archive and this changed nothing.

Have also ran two other games to test eyefinity – LOTRO and RIFT – both work fine with good UI placement after I used feature to move the UI elements in both games. Would be nice to have that feature in GW2 then I could at least move the UI elements. Not too bothered with character select but if the scaling issue is present at character creation and or with cut scenes this would be something of a put off – not enough in themselves to stop game play but still irritating.

Man! I just did a search for eyefinity as I am a returning player with similar issues. Thing is, there were no results on the search so I started a similar thread.

When I used to play regular, before an extended break, the eyefinity issues had been resolved but now they seem to be back.

I wait for help myself on the eyefinity issues – sorry I cannot help at this moment.

Edit: Windows update is fully up to date, all drivers are up to date (from manufacturers where possible) and my OS is windows 8.1.

Edit2: I have currently got the game / launcher running and ‘Verifying Archive …’ as an attempt to solve any archive / install issues.

Hello all,

I hope to restart playing GW2 after having had something of an extended break from the game.

EDIT: All drivers are up to date from manufacturers web site where possible and windows update is fully up to date. My OS is windows 8.1.
I have an eyefinity rig with three side by side monitors (3*1) and have noticed, sadly, that the character select screen is out of scale and the in game UI has elements out to the extents of the side monitors – such as mini map and chat.

When I used to play regular, I was active on the forums asking AN about eyefinity solutions and helping other eyefinity users with such. When I last played regularly, all the game scaling and UI placement issues with eyefinity had been resolved. Now it seems there has been a step backwards regarding eyefinity or eyefinity support.

So;

Is there a way in game or in the game settings to make the character select or other screens scale properly with eyefinity?

Is there a way to move UI elements to a more usable placement for eyefinity?

I am playing GW2 from an old ‘install’ whereby I only use the game files from a secondary drive (updated as usual by launcher) with my OS on my primary drive. Is there a set up file that can be altered to force eyefinity compatibility?

Has AN simply stopped all eyefinity support?

I do not wish to use any third party tool to give eyefintity compatibility.

Not having eyefinity support is not entirely enough to put me off playing GW2 but it is a real problem – getting the scaling and UI placement issues resolved would be great.

If replying to this thread, please try to be helpful and please realize that I am not asking for a debate on the virtues or lack thereof relating to eyefinity use – I would simply like to play the game with the scaling and UI issues resolved.

These are scam emails – do not trust them. ANet will never contact you like this.

From the linked page; ‘We will not send emails that state that your account will be terminated if you do not respond. We will not send emails that state that an account has been compromised (unless we are responding to a player). Emails of this type are almost certainly malicious in intent.’

You are very unlikely to get any official email from ANet regarding your account – in your inbox / junk / spam – best is to delete these emails and NEVER follow the links.

If you are concerned that there may be an account issue then find the correct addresses / phone numbers on the ANet GW2 website and contact customer support personally.

Upset with transmutation

Yeah!

I saw the problem with the transmute and decided to soul bind the wings to a character they look OK on and that needed a new back piece.

To me the wings should have been an item not a skin to apply to an item and they should have been account bound from the start.

I have not looked at gem store bought wings. Personally, I am off put from buying wings (or other cosmetics) from the store because it seems unfair to me that we players are asked to buy something that is more or less the same cosmetically as a reward we had to work for just so as to have an account bound rather than soul bound item.

So! I’ll stick to the wings earned in game and be happy.

New cut scene / wide screen gaming

Hey all,

First off and I think most importantly I would hope that this thread (OP) is not seen as a complaint as this is not my intention.

Second, I was unsure where to post his – ‘Tech Support’ as it is a technical thing or ‘Suggestions’ or elsewhere. If a mod reads this and thinks it should be moved to a more appropriate forum section then so be it.

The new cut scene from ‘Dragon Bash’ that plays when we meet Marjory Delaqua or later via the journal of that character is beautiful, thoughtfully constructed, excellently presented and generally a blooming good show of the talent of the team responsible for it.

Except! The cut scene does not play nicely with wide screen gaming set ups. To be more correct, the cut scene does not play well on eyefinity rigs.

The problem is that although the cut scene plays on the centre monitor of eyefinity rigs as is to be expected, it is ‘scrunched up’ and cut off top and bottom.

In my case, when I play the cut scene back on my eyefinity wide screen gaming rig in eyefinity mode (3×1 monitors) the problem occurs. If I drop the rig into ‘Centre Screen only’ mode (a preset of mine) and play GW2 on one screen only then the cut scene plays back great – no scrunching or cut off areas.

I am aware that widescreen gamers are not in the majority and that ANet has done some brilliant work catering to the needs of widescreen gamers to date. It would be lovely though if ANet could look in to a widescreen gaming fix for the new cut scene – particularly if the seemingly new format is going to be used in further cut scenes.

Thanks in advance to ANet for at least considering looking at fixing this issue (minor as it is).

In another game (Skyrim if memory serves) a similar issue was caused by bad Anti Aliasing. You could try setting your graphics to allow games to determine correct Anti Aliasing and / or switch GW2 Anti Aliasing to native.

Hi Robertlee,

Getting a gaming system for £250 is a bit of an ask! Raising your limit to £400 is better but you will still likely be looking at the ‘low end’ of the market – especially for a pre-built complete system.

From reading this thread, it seems that building your own system is a little beyond your capabilities – absolutely no offence meant there. However, seeing as you have a PC (or seem to have from reading this), you have a good chance to save at least some money!

You should have no trouble using your old keyboard and mouse – this saves a small amount of money. Likewise, you should have no trouble using your old monitor – potentially a huge saving.

This means you can buy just the ‘tower’ so to speak. You may want to look at Dabs for this. Dabs are not always the cheapest and not always the most expensive but I can say they have always been reliable for me and had great ‘turnaround’ times.

That link showed me a mix of pre-built system that could possibly be something like what you want. You may need to refine the search though. Dabs also do good deals on components at times – so if you did feel up to building your own rig or had a friend or relative that could help this could be what you want. Lastly, dabs have a ‘bargain basement’ type area that is usually full of … bargains! Sometimes the bargain basement has second hand or returned items but everything is tested and guaranteed to be in working order and such. (Try the ’Clearance Corner!)

Another place to look for UK deals is NovaTech – not always hot on the bargains but sometimes great for such.

Maybe, just maybe, they posted the spoilers as a way to try to placate all those complaining that ANet does not give good communication (if any) about certain aspects of the game. Foot, gun, shot – choose your order!

I don’t do reddit and FB is the devil incarnate as far as my network is concerned so I cannot fairly comment on those. Spoilers where on the GW2 web site for some time though. They where more like ‘this happens then’ instructions and did have spoiler warnings.

HD5870 FPS issues

Hi,

I have a HD5850 in an AMD PhenomII x 6 rig.

When I play in eyefinity the FPS can get somewhat low but it is much better in single screen mode.

The only things that come to mind apart from a complete removal of all related drivers then install of the latest is to do with the ‘Control Center / Engine’ software for configuring the card.

I do not have the link to hand (sorry) but AMD do ‘game profiles’ that set the ‘Control Centre’ to recomended settings for some games such as GW2. Maybe a browse of the AMD site would help here.

Anyway, nothing else comes to mind just now.

As an item I really like it. Its something unique and stand-alone although the fact it takes up an item slot is a little annoying. Hopefully the items use will be expanded
However as the finalk reward for the entire murder mystery arc it feels a tad underwhelming. Would have been nice to get it and something else, even if that else was just another bag of coins

Hmm … is this the end of the arc?

Inspector Kiel did say something about contacting (character) us when she tracks down the killer!

Sadly, there are already complaints in game that the cut scene is ‘cartoon rubbish’ and the journal is just more junk to fill bag / bank space.

On these forums (sorry I deleted the link) the other day people wher upset that they would not be able to see the cut scene again after doing evnt,

I don’t accept the ‘peripheral vision’ argument. The real world doesn’t change shape when I’m not looking directly at it.

This guy does some explanation of the ‘peripheral view’ argument. The side monitors are not meant to show dead on directly in front of you view – rather they are to show what is beside you on either side in your peripheral view.

It looks to me like the graphics engine uses a simple radial projection, where the view in a sphere around the camera is projected straight out onto a flat surface.

This works OK if the screen is small and the circle large so there isn’t a lot of difference. But with a large screen, unless you sit in the right spot at the centre (which is VERY close to the screen) objects art the edge are distorted.

I sit with my face about 2 feet or perhaps a little more away from my centre monitor with the centre monitor in my central view and the two side monitors angled (about 30 degrees from flat). When not gaming #I have my monitor preferences set up as ‘Eyefinity’ with bezel correction which has the left monitor as main with the other two making up a very large desktop, ‘Centre Extended’ which has the centre monitor as main monitor extended out to the others or ‘Centre Only’ with the other monitors off. In each set up, there is no distortion of the image (except as to be expected when bezel corrected). It is only while gaming in eyefinity mode that the distortion happens and this is deliberate for peripheral view!

I had some ‘paperwork’ explaining the whole peripheral view thing taken from AMD but I have lost it and the associated links and cannot find the pages on AMD website as it has changed. There is a rather long discussion about optimal eyefinity monitor set up here if it helps any one;

I guess Anet are using a third-party Graphics Engine like Havok and probably have no control over the projection.
If so, it’s bad news for Eyefinity users. It’s never going to look right.

I cannot say what system ANet use but I can tell you that they have, at the request of many eyefinity users, corrected the eyefinity view in game (GW2). Too many links on the forum to list but a search for ’eyefinity will confirm the fix.

As for ’it’s never going to look right’, it looks great to me. It is not just GW2 that looks great or is affected with the ‘distortion’. Other games include;

Startrek online
Lord of the rings online (very much more distorted than GW2 but still correct)
Star wars the old republic
Age of Conan
World of Tanks
World of Warplanes
Neverwinter

And those are only some of the titles which I have played.

Other surround vision;

All with angled monitors and the distortion.

It is true that some games are less suited to surround vision / eyefinity as they do not need it and would not (normally) make use of it or the associated distortion! The game ‘The Settlers – Rise of an Empire’ comes to mind. As that game is a kind of top down/ isometric type view, it is best played on a single monitor (presets are great) as it is awkward to switch DIRECT vision between monitors.

(Again) As I have said in many other eyefinity threads (on the GW2 forums and off), each of us has a preference for how we want to set up our monitors and each of us should set our monitors as we please and not suffer any intolerance from those with other preferences!

The New Cutscenes

The cut scene is very ‘film noir’ and fits the story very well. The whole look and feel of this part of the story is great.

It seems to me that the cut scene is presented using slightly different technology to others in game and it looks great (except it seemed a bit scrunched up on the centre monitor of my eyefinity rig).

I also thought the part where we speak with Marjory seemed to be very high quality. The interior of the ‘Dead End’ looked higher definition and so did the characters – especially Marjory.

On the whole, well done ANet.

Just got to figure out how to find the other suspects or wait till they become available in game.

Fireworks Thread - Overflow and Achievement issues

Sooo… are fireworks and the dragon helm over? I logged in a a few times over the weekend, hanging around LA for fireworks, asking unaswered questions about when they go off. I never caught that 5 min window and would either go into WvW or log.
I waited around for 2-21/2hrs last night akitteng in LA and still nothing. Doing an event in such a small window, they should atleast give some indication of when that event occurs.

I waited hours under fountain / projector then asked on forums and was told Big Boom is now unattainable. I have made a suggestion in a new thread that the ach. list be updated to show when an ach is no longer attainable.

ANet, I think it would be a really good idea for you to put a marker on any achievement in the achievement list that is no longer obtainable. That or remove unobtainable achievements from the list.

A particular example;

Dragon Bash – my achievement list shows ’ The Big Boom In The City’ as still obtainable (to date of this post) when, in fact, it seems the achievement can no longer be obtained (as reported to me in another thread).

You (ANet) could stop a lot of frustration (for your players) by implementing this.

Anet REALLY need to update the way the achievement list works so that it updates any achievement that is no longer obtainable.

I have had a character ‘parked’ at the fountain / projector for hours (live in game) and just been told this achievement is no longer obtainable.

As of writing this, 19/06/2013 with in game time 16:17 (ish), is ‘the Big Boom In The City’ achievement still obtainable? The ach is still undone in my list and have spent time standing directly under the fountain / projector but not caught the ach yet.

(I know about the timings from posts on these forums.)

I was a bit late to the party so to say as I just got back to GW2 yesterday after a break – so I understand if I missed the ach dates.

Just seems mad to me that the ach is still in list with no marking saying it is missed and still seems to be open for me to do – but it seems I cannot do it!

I have the AMD Phenom II x6 1055t (not overclocked by me) @ 2.80 GHz.

As has been said your system, as mine, is a bit aged. Thing is it should still be, as mine is, fine for GW2.

The temperatures you are reporting are WAY over the top and you do need to do something about that asap!

Going with a better CPU cooler than the stock one is probably for the best – I Have a huge two fan Noctua NHD14 (http://www.dabs.com/products/noctua-dual-radiator-and-fan-cpu-cooler-multi-socket-73GN.html?q=noctua&src=16) on my CPU but other cheaper coolers that do great are available.

Remember that cooling is very much about airflow around the case too! Check all your cables are tidy and the air is flowing well.

A possible help would be to add another cooling fan and these can be got quite cheaply (this is a suggestion only – not an instruction). The thing is though that adding another fan at this stage would probably have little affect as your temps are so very high.

What video card are you using and what PSU (power supply)? It could be that, as DrixTrix hinted your PSU is under powered or faulty and not getting enough power to where it is needed.

As you say that hardware is not your thing then maybe a visit to a computer repair shop is in order. Maybe you have a friend or relative that is more tech savvy and could help. Just remember that there is a difference between those that big themselves up as a computer expert and those that do actually know what they are doing!

If you are going it alone and if you feel confident enough to do so then simply removing the cooler then CPU, properly cleaning all thermal paste from both CPU and Cooler, ensuring CPU is properly seated , applying new good quality thermal paste then putting back your current or a new (better) cooling system is probably the way to go. THIS IS NOT A DEFINITE THOUGH.

As has been mentioned in the thread, giving as much detail regarding your system, temperatures you are getting, Core Temp readings and such is generally a good idea as then those wishing to help will be better placed to do so. Sadly, those wishing to help can only go so far on the information given.

Trading Post suddenly slow; failing to sell

This just started happening to me – hence I came here!

My ADSL sits comfortably between 3.80 and 3.90 Mbps (as always). The game plays really well in general and it is just the BLT that is showing problems – as pointed to by the OP.

I’m hoping it is just a temporary glitch. I have bags full of cooked items to shift that cannot be sold to vendors – they are not worth much individually but as a whole will provide some pocket money once I can sell them.

Not sure if this is any help but I’ll add it;

When I start a new character, I never buy anything from the auction house (Black Lion Trading) or any ‘vendor’ Non Player Character (NPC). This is because I, almost without exception, will get the items such as armor or weapons needed at low levels from ‘drops’ after killing something.

What I try to do in the low levels is weapons train to get said training over and done with. Look in your character sheet and one of the tabs shows what weapons you may use and your (character) proficiency with said weapons. I find that weapons training not only gets the proficiencies to max but also helps me choose what weapons I will, in the main, use with the character. Such weapons training will give experience too and a lot of dropped items – mostly junk but some new weapons / armor and at least you can sell the junk for pocket money!

As Naus points out, it is good to explore the main cities for experience (xp) too.

Another way to level your character is to choose a crafting ability (or two) then craft any materials you can find. I usually buy copper axe, mining pick and sickles packs as soon as I can as gathering wood ore and plants awards xp and crafting them into usable or salable items (more pocket money) also gives xp. Some argue that crafting is not the best thing to do for various reasons but it can be helpful!

Multi screen (Eyefinity) distortion

In short; YES!

You should, by preference, use ‘eyefinity mode’ when playing GW2 rather than any other ‘preset’ created in the preferences interface (ATI Catalyst (or Engine) Control Centre).

Although GW2 and other eyefinity friendly games can be played with monitors that are flat to each other, eyefinity is designed to (when in eyefinity mode) be used with the centre monitor flat and the left and right monitors angled (about 30 degrees). The distortion / noticeably fatter NPCs and such on the left and right monitors is deliberate! This is because in eyefinity mode we use the centre monitor as the ‘focus’ and the two other monitors (L/R) as / for ‘peripheral vision’. The distortion is compensated for by our brain and the picture as a whole is more realistic.

As I have said in many other eyefinity threads (on the GW2 forums and off), each of us has a preference for how we want to set up our monitors and each of us should set our monitors as we please and not suffer any intolerance from those with other preferences!

In any preferred set up, I recommend that the latest ATI drivers and control software should be used. In some cases though, older or ‘beta’ versions of the drivers are used if there are problems with the current set from ATI.

Remember too that eyefinity is best used with ‘Bezel Correction’ – see the ‘Catalyst / Engine Control Center’ > ‘AMD Eyefinity Multi-Display’ >‘Adjust Bezel Compensation’ for this!

Edit: Forgot to mention; though it may seem obvious to ensure you are using the correct resolution in GW2, it is easy to forget this or miss it. In game, go to preferences and select the same resolution as your bevel corrected eyefinity for better / best results!

Recently, after much haranguing from Eyefinity users, the problems with the displaced graphics and such when Eyefinity was used where fixed. Search the forums from the first forum page for eyefinity and you will find quite a few posts regarding this!

I hope this may help to sort at least some of the issues discussed in this thread.

An easy way to see if your hardware is ATI/Nvidia or whatever graphics ways is to open ‘device manager’ and click on ‘display adapters’ then look to see what is listed. To do this in windows 8 press the windows key + ‘x’ then choose ‘device manager’. In previous versions of windows, you should be able to easily find your way to the ‘device manager’ – you may have to go through ‘control panel’ from your start menu. The web is your friend for further instruction if needed.

An alternative to find out your hardware is to right click an empty space on your desktop and see if there is a propriety program from the graphics hardware manufacturer installed – for AMD / ATI it would likely be ‘AMD VISION Engine Control Center’ or ‘Catalyst Control Center’. I’m unsure of the Nvidia program having not used it in some time.

If you are using eyefinity, there is a possible reason for the misplaced UI elements and such. Maybe you have not set up the graphics as eyefinity! It is possible that you have your graphics set up as one large desktop extended from one of the monitors to the other two. This IS NOT eyefinity! To get eyefinity you must set up an eyefinity display group through ‘Engine’ or ‘Catalyst’ ‘Control Center’.

Personally, I have three ‘presets’ set up in ‘Engine Control Center’ : ‘BA Eyefinity’ is eyefinity mode (3×1) that is ‘bevel adjusted’ : ‘Center Extended Left & Right’ : ‘Center Only’. This way, I can switch between the presets depending on how I am using the PC.

For good information, the manufacturers site is easily accessed: http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/amd-eyefinity-technology/Pages/eyefinity.aspx is the main page for further access.

The other thing to keep in mind is that you should, usually and where possible, use the latest / current device driver as supplied by the manufacturer (whichever brand you use always get the drivers from ATI / Nvidia or whichever manufacturer rather than the brand supplier). There may be Beta drivers available but most folk are better sticking to the current drivers!

For the record; my video card is an aging 2GB AMD/ATI Radeon HD 5850 (5800 Series). I play GW2 with my main PC no problems in eyefinity mode since the recent ‘fix’ – though the FPS can be a little low in some game areas. I previously tried a third party ‘fix’ before the recent update but dropped it as it may have not been allowed by ANet T&C / User Agreement.

For those that need it.

As I mentioned before, for gaming it is usually best to make sure you set the monitors into eyefinity mode with bezel correction and monitors left and right angled for peripheral view and the centre monitor as the focus. This angled approach takes full advantage how eyefinity works. If you just want a widescreen, then setting the monitors flat to each other and not configured for eyefinity will give good (but different) results too. ’Tis horses for courses!

I could be wrong but I think that a mod mentioned that turning the fires back on / to available will happen but it has been delayed. I have a character ‘parked’ ready to use a fire when it is relit – hopefully soon.

Just popping back in briefly as I have about a dozen other tasks on the go just now!

Just to try to clarify; I think that the events are great and that those participating get from them the experience of taking part, any related character experience and any related reward and all this is good. Those unable to take part for whatever reason do miss out in a way but they should not complain if, as is my case this time round, the reasons for not taking part are due to factors outside the game. Yes! It could be argued that better information should be given regarding the time frame of events – for sure. However, we can not blame Anet or any other company that does give such information when we cannot or will not view said information because of events outside the control of whichever company.

I refer to suggestion (2.) in my previous post in regard to achievements and the character / account achievement list;

‘2, If someone has not been able to complete the achievements of a story line / arc due to not being able to play and complete before a closing date then please remove that achievement from their in game achievement log or mark it as missed in some way. This is because people tend to get angry / frustrated if they are running around trying to complete an achievement listed in the log where the achievement is active in the log but inactive in the game and therefore in-completable with no indication in game of that fact.’

It may not be ideal to have an achievement in the list ‘locked’ or marked as ‘missed’ (as in – sorry bub but you missed taking part in the event / story / achievement because you did not log in in the given time frame) but it would save the frustration of myself and others running around trying to find out how to complete the achievement (as it is still ‘open’ or ‘do-able’ in our log) when the achievement is now unobtainable and / or effectively dead.

It may not be easy to code the game to NOT show items in the achievement list but, again, this would stop the frustration of trying to complete an achievement that can simply not be completed any more.

So! Anet, the suggestion stands. Please, if there is a way to do it, when an achievement is no longer available for completion either mark it in the player achievement log as ‘Unobtainable’ / ‘Missed (due to time constraint)’ / ‘[insert reason/ description / message]’ or remove the achievement for the player that missed it and can no longer do it because it has been (for whatever reason) disabled in game.

Hope I have cleared that up some – I have to go now as RL beckons but I will try to get back to this thread when I have time.

Correct me if im wrong but it was just a bar, in my mind i want an actual timer . Good example of this was with the final bit of the molten alliance, i thought the dungeon was over the 13th(as in you had the 13th to run it) but it was in fact the 12th. So when it was the 12th at 8pm (reset time) there was no dungeon. Im not sure what i missed out on as supposedly having a little extra cut scene to it but w/e it was i missed due how i interpreted the wording or misread it.

Yes it was a bar. It emptied regularely so when the bar was almost finished, you knew to hurry up. I agree that the design choice maybe wasn’t optimal, but implementing an exact timer is probably impossible, people would then complain that it finished a minute too early/late.
A possibility that might work would be to have a permanent announcement of clear dates about the current event:
A) in the launcher after login (where news are now and noone would read that either).
B) in the character login screen in a box at the side.
I’d prefer either way over unremovably clunky UI overlays any day. What do you think? Would people notice these announcements?

After all I have posted so far in this thread, I see good in both A and B. However, you are right to point out ‘noone would read that either’. That is just human nature. I used to work as a lead store man in a warehouse and I know only to well that if you put up a sign for / or an announcement, most people will either read it once then forget it, think it does not apply to them, not even look at it or simply disregard it in some other way.

I fully accept that I could not play during the time limit due to circumstance as I explained and do not blame Anet or anyone else for this. Thing is, if I’m unable to play then it is likely that I will be unable to see any UI message – again my problem not that of Anet.

As for users asking for something and getting it and others complaining. First; I have no complaint! My previous post should have been enough to demonstrate this. I did make some suggestions though regarding how to put some of the complaints ‘to bed’ or prevent such complaints in the future. Added to this, just do a search of my other thread activity – particularly regarding Eyefinity and you will see quite plainly that I agree that you cannot please everyone all the time!

I also agree that ‘The living story content is just a small part of the world and more of a temporary amusement. If you don’t complete it, you don’t loose anything.’ and I missed it through my own action or inaction. Maybe my suggestion of marking the components as missed or removing them from the player log would be for the best in these cases. That way players would not be running around and getting frustrated trying to complete tasks that are simply ‘dead’ now and thus in-completable.

A final note but not a complaint;

Regarding ‘If you don’t complete it, you don’t loose anything.’ I would say you are both right and wrong at the same time (no offence meant). I knew I would miss the time limited event and accepted this and as such lost nothing. Others argue that they were not aware of the time limit so lost the chance to take part in the event and the chance to get the ‘final’ reward or what ever they want to argue or complain about.

Life is! Gaming is an important activity in life for some. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose and sometimes we miss the chance to do either. I have no complaint as such about the missed time limit. It would be good though if Anet did something about the achievements listed as active that cannot now be completed though – it would save confusion and frustration if those achievements where removed or marked missed for those that cannot complete them now.

Hey all,

I agree that because not everyone can play GW2 at inconvenient times due to work, family, real life or such and not everyone uses the forums, website, twitter, facebook or such and not everyone is savvy about such things then in game information about ‘important’ events with a time limit to complete would be useful and should be implemented.

However, there are undoubtedly times where circumstance plays a hand in the inability for some players to complete a time limited event or story line / arc.

In my case, for ‘Living Story’, I find myself with two seemingly in-completable components: ‘rage against the war machine’ and ‘avenger of the dispossessed’.

I accept my part in the lack of ability to complete the components! For the last few weeks I have had very limited access to my main PC and hence I have had very little access to GW2 (in game) – this is due to redecoration of the room that has my main PC in it. So! Yes, I am to blame in a way for not being in game to complete those parts of the living story.

There are three things I’d like to suggest regarding the (or any) living story at this point;

1, Do not aggravate fans of the game / customers by calling something a living story then abruptly kill the story and make it no longer a living story! Caveat lector: please understand that this is bias on the part of people now unable to finish the living story and I accept my part in my let down over this matter!

2, If someone has not been able to complete the achievements of a story line / arc due to not being able to play and complete before a closing date then please remove that achievement from their in game achievement log or mark it as missed in some way. This is because people tend to get angry / frustrated if they are running around trying to complete an achievement listed in the log where the achievement is active in the log but inactive in the game and therefore in-completable with no indication in game of that fact.

3. STOP putting time limits on achievements! Witness the events to date where people have ‘gone ape’ on these very forums due to not being able to complete something due to a date / time limit. I understand that having a time limited event or story arc can add a kind of reality to the game and there are many other reasons for time limiting. However, all Anet seems to be doing with time limited events is segregating the player base into those who have done / are able to do the events and those who have not / cannot.

I’m no expert and do not pretend to have all the answers (or even all the questions) but it seems obvious to me that angry fans / customers are not likely to praise GW2 or spend time or money on it!

Edit: BTW – if there is still a way to complete ‘rage against the war machine’ and ‘avenger of the dispossessed’ I’d by happy to find out how!!

Due to a quirk in delivery times of furniture and near completion of the room as mentioned earlier in this thread, I got my eyefinity rig up and running today and have had a short time in game (GW2).

The fix has:

Corrected my character select screen to be centre and properly scaled – fantastic result!

Put the UI elements on the centre monitor and correctly scaled – great result and much better than having to move head left or right to view chat etc.

Made the map to appear correctly scaled on the centre screen – much better than the previously stretched map (IMO).

Additionally;

Bags and character windows remain movable and I find this great.

Loading screens remain centre and properly scaled – another good result.

Yet to be tested (assumed to be sorted by the fix):

Character creation.

Animated ‘video’ cut scenes.

So long as those two are correct then the fix IS exactly what was asked for. I do appreciate and accept that a customizable UI would be the bees knees for some users though.

Proper thanks are due to Bill and the team for listening to and accomodating players with this fix.
