Your outlook and feel of this spec is very similar to how I feel about it… the specialization just seems clunky. My main issues with it is the damage it does and its surviveability

With the risk that is required, either the surviveability needs to go up or they need to adjust the damage, or both. Either or, the dmg is not on par with considering the work needed to get in and having to survive with being so squishy and up close.

And I know that this is just beta, but with dmg being a problem, I have only a choice of building dmg (which is still minor) and dying to condis, or building to survive and doing little to no damage.

Guild Wars 2 didn’t raise the expansion. You can, in fact, still compete without having the expansion. Therefore, Guild Wars 2 is less pay to win than any of the competition.

Again, false. You did not reply to me so maybe ill make it shorter this time. WoW releases expansions that will not punish you directly for not buying it. GW2 does.

So what do you expect Anet to do.

Let people that didn’t buy expansion form their small pvp community, and have really long queue time?

To balance the core classes as they should have from the get go before HoT released, or tone down some of specializations so that the core classes can compete also in pvp.

How does this punish you for not buying it?

Is there a new and more powerful gear tier only available to expansion users, you know, like every other MMO?
Are there new stat boosts, pots or vertical progression systems available only to the expansion users?

Or wait, is it simply that expansion content is only available to expansion users? This content doesn’t give you a direct advantage over other users, therefore it’s not punishing anyone.

Give me a list of normal classes that perform equally to the elite specializations in PVP. I dont think this can be argued. There are certain aspects of the expansion also locked behind the expansion but thats PVE, and I think thats pretty legit as any MMO does that.

But within PVP players who only own the core game pose to those who have both the expansion, there is no equal playing ground. Most of the elite specializations excel much better than the core classes and if you do not own the expansion, your punished by being over ran by those classes until you buy the expansion.

My point was that in WoW, they do not do this, as your separated from players who have the expansion but in GW2 you pretty much have to suffer through it until they balance the core classes or tone down the specializations.

GW2 was never made to be more innovative than other MMOs, it was made to be different than GW1.

Sure and when new stuff is released it often takes months in most MMOs to get the balance right. So we see new professions, they’re being used a lot, people jump on the band wagon and then stuff gets nerfed, just like warriors got a nerf at some point.
It doesn’t happen instantly.

Sure it happens, Death knights were op when they came out in wow, eventually they got toned down, no different than the Revenant. The difference also is those other companies usually have longer beta’s and test servers to test stuff out, a lot of times it’s just adding a couple new spells to the top end of leveling that needs balancing. GW2 meanwhile added 9 elite specs at once that changes entire classes and barely did any beta testing on them, we’re in fact still beta testing them.

In a year from now, we’ll see if things haven’t balanced out but it’s not going to happen right now, and no one can say the game is pay to win just because it’s out of balance right now. It’s a misuse of the term.

A year from now? lol. Not when they’re trying to promote e-sports right now to grow their game. Balance patches need to come faster on obvious broken stuff, when a pro team had to quit a tournament match just to get some attention to a broken meta says a lot.

Please enlighten us on your definition of pay to win.

I’ve given my definition of pay to win again and again on these forums. But I’ll try again.

Pay to win is a game that sells power directly through micro transactions. That it to say the best weapons or power can be bought only in the gem store and you have to buy that to pay for those specific weapons or armor. Or buffs.

I haven’t ever seen pay to win refer to an expansion in any game, though some expansions will add stuff to the cash shop to make it pay to win. I’ve never seen pay to win refer to anything except cash shop purchases.

For example, WoW comes out with an expansion that raises the level cap. To compete you must buy that expansion but no one calls WoW play to win. The same is true in virtually every MMO I can think of. The levels go up and when an expansion comes out. Expansions are like season passes. You’re expected to buy them to stay current. That’s normal for the genre.

Pay to win was a way of differentiating between games that required you to spend money in the cash shop on a relatively consistent basis, rather than selling an expansion after three years.

If you call Guild Wars 2 pay to win for an expansion you would have to call every single MMO I’ve ever played pay to win. Once you start calling every MMO pay to win, pay to win has lost it’s original definition which was to divide the good guys from the bad guys.

People have have played actual pay to win games can see the difference.

How exactly is it ok that we are still beta testing during the final form of the expansion? Usually when a game goes out of Beta, does it not mean that the product is ready for release? Yet, you say essentially we are still testing and that it is ok because they added 9 different specs all at once? WoW don’t release 9 specs, but they release new spells and talents that equal just about the same amount, and if not then more, abilities of a new class in GW2. That is not even considering each spec they have per class. So I don’t find that as an excuse for us having to pay to be current Beta testers. Sure, at some point they have to balance their skills , but that is the territory of any game especially PvP where things are balanced to keep metas or strong tatics in check. That is in any game, and even mobas.

And then what about some of the many bugs that some players have experienced in HoT which still persist today, is there an excuse still for so many of them? We are talking about a product that was sold for 40 – 100$ to millions of players, as a COMPLETE and READY game. I don’t find that ok, but to each their own.

Back to specs though. Some of the classes before elite specializations were STILL not balanced or on par with some of the stronger classes. Necro and Ranger for example come to mind. Both of them have been subpar in conquest almost since the release of the game. Thats been 2-3 years. Deathknights or any new class in WoW will probably be toned down in the coming arena seasons or within months of the new expansion being out. Not a whole entire 2 years.

On top of that, If I was to go into PVP right now and hope to do well as those main classes, im going to either get wrecked by the new specializations or have to work twice as hard to be just as good. And as it was advertised, these specializations were only ways to open up NEW opportunities to play, yet some of them improve what the main classes lacked and make them the BETTER or more powerful versions (Reaper, Chronomancer, Revenant). How is that ok?

In WoW, the way it works is that, if you want to continue playing beyond the last expansion and play its new content, your required to buy the new expansion. Most likely if your into the PVE, your going to do so, not to mention having access to new abilities. However, In PVP, your not forced to do so. Yes, in arenas or RBG you will since its endgame pvp. However, in normal battlegrounds, they even make a new bracket (80-89, 90-99, 100) so essentially, If I wanted to do just battlegrounds with my current character, I will still be on a equal playing ground until I hit the next level which would only come from me buying the expansion. I would not be thrown into the same game with elite specializations getting whooped and punished for not buying the expansion.

I think this is where the Pay to Win idea comes in. WoW has conditions to what you can and cant do, GW2 on the other hand just slaps everything on top of each other and hopes it works out for the best.

GW2 was never made to be more innovative than other MMOs, it was made to be different than GW1.

While I agree with the rest of your post, you’re letting the developers get away way too easily with blaming it on the customer, I guess. It’s undeniable that if the players would demand much more and vote with their wallet, things would change, but that’s only one side of that coin.
The other one is a developer getting lazy and not trying to push boundaries outside of those the business economists ask them to. There might be multiple reasons why this happened and although some players adress those things to Mike O’Brian it might as well be nobody in particular to blame.
The crux of the matter is a developer past its best. Ruining the WvW and not even trying to stop the bleeding, the amateurish attempt to create an e-sport out of a game not even remotely ready for it, both those things say a lot about a distinct lack of motivation behind the scenes. Things like that just don’t happen if the team behind it is passionate about what they do.
However, that’s something you’ll get if many of the original developers are no longer on board. The problem is: While they make money now, they will inevitably run into trouble in the long run unless they somehow manage to turn around. ArenaNet wouldn’t be the first nor the last studio to fall from grace this way.
That’s something I would hate to see.

On the contrary, I agree, the developers in the end are to blame but in retrospective to all of that, the players had the biggest chance to tell developers what they wanted to see. When things were being announced or not being revealed yet, these forums were constantly bombarded with post that created a separation in the community. One group made statements like, “We want to see X in game”, or “Why is Y not happening or explained more clearly”, and then you would have other players who loved “X” and did not even stop to think about “Y”. In essence, those same players who are now dishearten by how let down this expansion is were giving Arenanet too much credit.

Players would defend the decisions of the game saying, “They are working hard, the content is great” or “X is fine and this is what we want, if you other players don’t like it then stop whining and go play something else”. Things like that is what also helped make the game what it is today. And voting with the wallet is probably speaking the loudest, but I’m not advocating that decision right off because simply saying something in these forums is enough to make the devs notice something. Just how like now these type of threads are constantly popping up each time about how disappointed players are with parts of the game.

Had players noticed the little content that was revealed for this “expansion” or some of the questionably decisions made by developers, then they could have voiced their opinion more loudly to where the developers would “maybe” notice them. So I cant really have much sympathy for players who finally realize this. Too many, yet a minority, of fans tried to say something about it before the release. But in the end, had it gone the opposite way, the developers still have the final say so. Which causes me to have moments where I have to stop and think, “who are they really making this game for. Us, or them?”

Long time player and reader of this forums. I regularly check in to see if Arenanet has gotten their kitten together by deciding to make this an actual game that players want to play. But as I read though the forums, I see its a common trend to find threads of how so many people are finally displeased about how shallow this expansion is, and I just don’t get it.

Before HoT even came out, there were many wave of players talking about how bad this expansions was going to be due to the lack of information that came along with the price tag that they were asking for. Nothing justified what they were asking for and its clear that with the lack of promises and fulfillment that the game has stilled yet to receive shows that something must be seriously wrong over there as they were able to sucker punch a lot of you into buying 100$ boxes for more of nothing.

Some issues that the core game had never were solved, on top of that they used the expansion to band-aid what the core game did not have such as improving classes/gimping core classes and then locking it all behind a expansion. How did no one see this coming? I still have not bought the expansion and have refused to further support this game or company as it seems they have more intentions on cash grabbing. I mean, did no one see how disappointed everyone was when the game was announced to go free? They basically encouraged the crowd to clap. I just think that some of their ideas have just been questionable.

So I agree with the points in the video of the OP’s topic. I loved Guild Wars.. especially the original and I think any other Vet would say the same. They probably would also think that GW2 was going to be something totally different in some aspects than what we have today, but because some players are ok with being thrown pieces of bones, instead of receiving the steak we deserve as paying customers, we now have a half baked game. It disappoints me and I even find myself coming back every so often hoping that things have changed only to be disappointed more.

It’s so easy to counter burn guards. Please L2P, it really is a L2P issue when people complain about burn guards or engies.

d/d ele op, Inc guard nerf on next balance patch!.. and tooltips fixes. :P

@OP u play pvp if u like it….. or if want to test and learn few builds to counter it.

I actually like burn guards. They balance the game in a way and keep me on my toes when I dont trait/equip cleanses. Hope they dont get nerfed due to people complaining about them. Warriors, necros, earth dd eles and other condi builds counter burn guards.

Here is whats wrong with your little philosophy, apparently your a pvp god suggesting to me to L2P, but I will take the benefit of the doubt and say your just a daily forum troll.. but riddle me this, when you have 3 or more eles OR burn guards on the opposite team please share with me how you continue to keep cleanse of these conditions after using 1 or 2 of your ONLY condi cleanses? Not to mention on other possible condi classes that are probably in the same game.

I’ll answer that for you, you dont… you burn and die.

In a 1v1 situation, sure… I know exactly how to time my condi clears and reverse them back. And if they only have one or 2 people on the other team its not as bad.

If it’s a full condi guard team, you should know not to stack up. Permeating Wrath is the reason guards excel in groups. If they’re not using permeating wrath, you only have to worry about cleansing Purging Flames (easy animation) and Judges Intervention. Don’t get caught in WW while you’re in PF. Oh, and jump/dodge when you see Zealots Fire.

The only class that have issues with condi in general are Engi’s, Thieves (shouldn’t be in a team fight anyways) and maayybee Mesmers if we get the drop on them. Even then.. it’s a guard team for crying out loud… out rotate the kitten out of them. You’ll also be able to kite and outsustain them.

I see SO many people QQ about 15 burn stacks when they were the ones who ate my WW in PF!! They have no idea how the class is played… It really is a l2p issue for a lot of people.

True enough, some do not know how to play against it. I hopped on my guard and faced this engi in a 1v1 situation on point to which that went into tornado trying to keep me off but little did he know he was sitting in my purging flames as he moved back and forth, and I was cheesing all over as he died from my burning stacks.

I didnt even have to engage on him, I just watch him move around in it and he died lol.

Some of it is L2P issues, but what im getting at is that having more than two people who apply it is not fun and it begins to show how broken the damage it puts out is. Im not even targeting just guardians, im also considering Eles or engis who have access to it also. When you have a team focus firing you, all you can do is take it as your being immobilized, burned and stunned. At the end of the day burning is going to get toned down.

PvP is an unbalanced mess where teams group together & zerg for single points.

The real question is; Is it your team doing the zerging or theirs?

If a team is Zerging then rotate around them… don’t meet them head on. If it’s a Zerg and you die, regroup back (that doesn’t mean go out one at a time) to that area as the Zerg will likely be else where.

It’s no wonder people think this game is unbalanced… people don’t understand the very class that they play and they have 0 map awareness.

Its true, some classes in this game are unbalanced, thats not a false fact.. take a look at cele ele and those taking advantage of broken runes to the point ESL has to put a restriction on classes.

Also, what makes PVP unenjoyable to many right now is the fact that you can have a whole premade go up against your team of randoms. You can do exactly what you just said and still get stomped because the opposite team can communicate or respond quicker to that strategy when facing pugs. Even if its just a premade of 3 people, the other team is in a huge disadvantage because once again, communication and timing. Not sure if that can be helped though, I just accept it and move on.

It’s always the same, people fail to adapt their playstyle and start blaming the flavor of the month class. Guardian can do more damage and is less squishy on a Marauder amulet than an ele on celestial. Mesmers are doing 16k spikes from stealth and people still complain about an ele bunkering down. It’s not like the ele has a choice.

For every build there is a counter, and an ele is anything but difficult to kill if you bothered to learn the class weakness.

And what is this counter? Thief + Mes Moa combo from stealth?

I have been playing this game since launch, I know how to adapt just well, but in all my 3 years of playing, never have I seen so much cheesy builds such as cele ele or those taking advantage of fire stacking builds.

It’s so easy to slip into a thread and say, L2P noob, or Learn to condi cleanse, yet I challenge anyone with that mind set to do that with 2+ eles on a team or 2+ fire condi guardians focusing you in a team fight. Sure.. go ahead and use your 1 or 2 condi cleanses which are probably on long cool downs (especially if you play necro -_-) but do prepare to burn like a piece of bacon right after.

Im not sure how to feel about this F2P business… the first thing that comes to mind is League of Legends.

Dont get me wrong, its a great game.. but their community of players has to be the worst I have ever seen in online gaming.. Its straight toxic and they have not figured out a way to fix it.

Now Arenanet would like to go the same route? Lol.. man SPVP will be the new grounds for trolls especially with the introduction of leagues. If this goes through we can kiss our good little community goodbye.

I’m sure that this is not what you mean but I don’t see why there should be a correlation between how nice is a community and the amount of money people spent. Such thought could then be derived to say that CE buyers are nicer within the community while the 10 € players are some toxic newbies…. again not saying you said that but just that this would be an easy way to take.

More specifically for League, my experience was the higher rank you were the less toxic people were, even if all players were still F2P. On the other hand I played some PvP game on GW2 were some players were at least as toxic… so no correlation again.
I think the comunity is what the players and the game make it to be. This game and the previous one always had nice people playing for the fun, taking time to dress their barbie, exploring landscape, organising crazy events… there is no reason why more players arriving would end that.

It’s not a statement of “more money spent means they’re better people”
or “more people is bad”

The problem a lot of us have with opening the floodgates that is f2p is that there’s zero barrier to entry. Any troll can pick up an account to troll people, and when he gets banned he can create another free account, and then another, and then another.
Having a small fee to entry means the players are much more likely to honestly be interested in playing the game than just here to troll.

I’ve played a lot of games, many f2p, and there are a lot of people who get their kicks from ruining other peoples experiences.
Met one guy (or girl, who knows) who had decided his goal in the game was to troll people until he got 100 accounts banned. iirc he was on his 14th account when I ran into him.
He (or she) played the game, invested many hours, solely into ruining it for everyone he (or she) could. And while that individual’s goal of 100 banned accounts was an anomaly that mindset is anything but. Trolls abound.
And from the trolls perspective, given the choice between trolling in a free game that costs him nothing if he gets banned, and a game where he has to spend $10-$20 each time, even $10 can be enough to either convince the troll to go elsewhere or to reconsider behavior that might cost him that money.
People tend not to respect what they haven’t paid for in some way, I’ve seen it in nearly every aspect of life. Company laptop? It’s not mine why should I take care of it? Same thing with company cars, rentals, friends stuff, the game is free who cares if I get banned?

That’s why we don’t want F2P, B2P is a small but reasonably effective barrier that keeps a great deal of grief at bay. No it’s not perfect there are still people who would go for getting 100 accounts banned even at $20 bucks each. But there are a lot less of those.
When they get in for free there’s no monetary loss to give a ban teeth.

To exacerbate the problem, the company is hoping these people spend money in the cash shop. Which sometimes leads to GMs being more and more likely to ignore behavior.

More players is a good thing, especially if those players spend money on the gem store and that money goes to fund more content.
But more players isn’t so good when many of them are as I described above, only here to mess around because the game is free.

Exactly this. This is what I mean and which is heavily seen in league. You got banned? Thats fine, make a new account. Feel like trolling today? Ok.. make a smurf account and let the games begin.

F2P has its advantages but besides income for GW2.. it also has some ugly disadvantages that can and will ruin the community in some way which is what I meant. GW2 community as we know it already include nice people over all, and dont get me wrong, there are still those kitten in game that you run into every now and then but no where at the same influx in League where every match depends on if your teammate feels like playing seriously or not.

If you think rage post are bad now, let F2P players come in. You will have threads of player’s opinions who may take this game seriously, and others who casually come by to do their daily trolling and so on.

A guard has one burn burst to drop those stacks on you…..surely everyone has at least ONE condi cleanse. If you say it was already on CD because you used it on someone else thats not the guard’s problem thats yours. 1v1 against a guard and it very easy to cleanse his ONE AND ONLY damaging condition. Then he has to wait a full 30+seconds to get purging flames and Judges Intervention off CD, by which time your condi cleanse should be off CD too.

And the burst that they can apply can happen shortly before the other person’s condi cleanse is back up. Which was my point in showing how easy it is for guardian to do it. However, I wouldnt have a problem with the damage if all conditions were as strong too, why is it just burning?

Burning Stacks

Something does need to be done about burning damage. It is out of hand. I’m not one to come to the forums to cry for nerfs, but having a guardian pop all his abilities to put 12 stacks of burn on you which melts anyone with condition clear on cool down within 5 seconds is broken. Not only that, burn damage is superior to other condition damage. I can stack 15 bleeds on a opponent and still not do as much damage.

If some one pop all of his abilities, I would think the output of it would be very strong. I will say that if a single clease occured, the guardian will be rendered useless unless he can live for 28 to 36 seconds. As a burn guard myself, it can often take some ingenuity in trying to survive after using my 3 utility skills. It’s equivalent to having instant half health

So either burning needs to be toned down or the other conditions need to be on par with it.

I suspect that’s the case with certain builds. A lot of it has to do with skirmish viability as oppose to 1v1 viability. Burn guards suck in 1v1 compared to other condi builds but we offer even more burn damage potential in groups. I think Karl did an excellent job with burn guards.

On the contrary, I also play guardian on the side and I know well with how easily the burn condition is accessible to them. Lets take a look…

1. Zealots Flame.. (15 sec cool down) but also triggers on critical strikes and when traited, the burn duration is increased. According to metabattle, this can be thrown every 12 secs allowing you to eventually get 8-10 stacks alone while wielding scepter/torch alone from this.

So.. at this point.. if I have just 12 of this insane damage on me, its timeto use 1 (in most cases) or 2 of my condi cleanses.. on average.. my cleanses are on 20 – 30 sec cooldowns.

2. Purging Flames.. (35 sec cool down) gives 3 stacks of burn on activation and another 3 every time someone steps in the flame during its 5 second duration..

3. Judges intervention also applies 3 stacks of burns (45 sec cooldown)

4. Virtue of Justice.. every few attacks applies burns passively which are stackable.. it also has an active which applies burning on the first hit (25 sec cooldown) which can also be reseted with the elite.

Add this on to condi damage and Balthazar runes, you are in for a world of pain.

So as previous stated, the coefficients of burning is superior to all other conditions right now and it’s showing among other classes that have huge access to this condition also, like eles or engineers.

I can accept that this may be a way for them to bring condi clears, but really the damage is just too good right now. Makes me even more worried to see Berserker which seems to be focused around nothing but burning.

So either burning needs to be toned down or the other conditions need to be on par with it.

This is exactly how I feel. Granted we are all enjoying the game and some may like what Arenanet has done with GW2 up until this point, it still does not justify laying down 70 – 100$ on a game we barely know half about.

It is known that this year is almost half way over folks, we are almost towards September, leaving us with 4 more months. We also know that recently it was said this game will release SOMETIME this year… yet we are still down 2 specializations, and we still only know about a fraction of whats to come. I hate to compare WoW, but even they released MUCH more info about their new expansion at the same conference GW2 was at and it is RECENTLY new. But what do we get? A hint about a release date and pre purchase options on a incomplete game lol.

Maybe some of you have the money to just throw at the screen and not care about it, but there are some that like to be conservative and if they would like to voice their opinion and why? Then they can do so. Consumers today who just blindly buy are the reason why we have some many game developers/companies today switching from releasing completed games to incomplete ones where they will just do bug fixes and DLC later. This is where the game industry is now, and honestly, its pathetic. So I also will hold my money until I KNOW. Not like im missing anything anyway beside being a unpaid beta tester for arenanet. And they know YOU will because they have deprive us of so much information that everyone is DYING to play this game.

I am loving the changes and the fact that necros are finally getting love. If anything, it is the transparency that helps ease how things are going for this class as I feel necros have been left in the dark for some time. I personally thank you for sharing with us ideas and taking input from other players that also love this class.

With that being said, I am sure that even after the release of HoT, necro will be talked about positively and negatively and some changes may need to be done (nerfs or buffs), which necro is no stranger to. So is it possible that when changes go through for necro, (and honestly for any classes to be fair) is it possible that devs can give more insight on why nerfs or buffs were done in order to give more insight to the reasoning of said changes?

I just think that helps the player base become more aware of what should and cant be done within said class boundaries. Once again though, thank you as you have done enough to make me come back to enjoy this class and game.

Uriel was a regular contributor in the necromancer forums (longtime Necro forum lurker here), so I’m wondering if this is more about the continued state of necromancer than HoT…

Sorry to see you go! Best of luck!

Gotcha. It is a shame to see contributors go. Hopefully, somewhere down the road OP will be able to come back with a whole heart and be a productive member of the community again.

To Uriel (one of my favorite poems, FYI), I leave you with this:

May the roads rise up to meet you,
May the winds be always at your back.
And should life ever find you thirsty,
May you find a juicebox close to hand.

Awesome.

I actually got more positive feedback then I expected. I cant be salty at arenanet though. They have done a great job with this game and have provided me with countless hours of fun. so I will keep my eye on the HoT. But as of now, I rather leave with the last bit of dignity that I have for this game.

Long time loyal fan, ever since prophecies and since beta weekend 1-3.. It might not matter to most of those who cross this thread, but maybe it will ring a tone in someones ear at Arenanet that there are people in this game that care about it and that maybe they should be more considerate of their “already” player base. I have defended this game for so long, and even watched many friends leave this game only to adventure through this game alone. Sure, I had a guild but this game is even more enjoyable with friends that you have played with over a course of years. As a loyal fan, it saddens me to say that due to arenanet making decisions that is taking this game in a direction that I don’t clearly like right now, I am finally calling it quits myself.

I dont care to point out what these issues are, as too much can be said but I do hope that maybe the “New” players enjoy this awesome world that Areanenet has built for everyone to experience and I wish everyone the best.

For the times I did enjoy, Thanks Arenanet!

HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

The fuss is this, the game is 50$ which does not give a free character slot like MOST expansions in Guild Wars have always done back in the day. On top of that, those who never owned the game gain a better advantage by getting the base game + the expansion for just 50$ only.

So technically I paid $50 when this game first released and the fact that arenanet snubs loyal fans into the ground even more by not offering already customers a deal but instead their new playerbase (which by this time it should be obvious that they are afte) is causing this to be an issue for many. Including me.

What would it take for gw2 to go esports?

in PvP

Uriel.6310

The main issue that holds their pvp back imo is balance and how often they do it. If they actually did balance changes more often than every 6 or more months then maybe the meta would also change more. Also, there are some classes that have a huge advantage over others and these said classes are left in their strong state for too long. This then causes an influx in said class and the other classes (Necros, rangers, mesmers) see lower representation. This is not to deny that the meta has not changed over the course of this games history though, but it happens very little and there isnt much balancing to keep every class in line. Might stacking is still strong, celestial is still superior for the current game modes in spvp, and often times when watching streams, players who dont play gw2 have no idea whats going on, they just see a bunch of players moving and dodge and spamming skills.

I pretty much dont even care about HoT anymore as the few things I have been hearing/seeing it does not seem like very much will change aside from what we have now. Im assumming there will be “few” new mechanics on bosses to give the perception that they have improved. Im sure most bosses will still be stagnat and inplace doing the same thing. ( ex; "Ok guys… in 10s he Wyvern will do “this”, be ready to stack and do “this”) And I see that specializations do not encourage players to play with different stats in builds or try different things but instead just changes how a particular class plays. In the end, everyone will still be encouraged to running zerker for best dps.

A concern from a Guild War 2 Lover!

I think this is why my love for this game is dying in fact. GW2 caters to players such as the OP, and no offense to the OP.. but what about players who actually like TRYING. Like everything in this game is so kittening easy to obtain now it makes no sense, and sure, grinding is tedious but where is he depth of obtaining an item besides farming the same item over and over only to make something that only will go towards Aesthetics?

Guild Wars is not what it use to be back in the day. And honestly, this saddens me as I used to love the heck out the original series. Everything in this game is so cheesy now. PvE consist of everyone running around with the same stats, stacking on a boss that is always stationary, that starts AND ends the same way EVERY fight, yet this is supposed to be dynamic?

PvP consist of running the same builds that are viable, because low and behold, other traits for said class either suck or just aren’t as good, so everyone is the SAME.. and if anything changes, its probably one of the only 3 utilities you get access to.

And now we have request of more of this same stuff?? Guildwars 2 has become the new social media game where you come to dress up your avatar and do meaningless things. No one cares that you defeated the dragons, no one talks about how you performed in your personal story, dynamic quest repeat them selves EVERY time whether your there or not, and I could go on.

Please……. I think that because of request like this it is why the game is the way it is now.

Casual.. super casual.

Edit: I had to vent, because really I like GW2 and really this game is just diappointing to me now up until this point, but to leave a solution at least, they should either add hard mode for those who want to do it OR… have difficulty settings ranging from BABY EASY.. to medium.. then HARD… then again.. its probably too much work and they will continue doing as they have before.

Reaper Hype: People Blinded By Aesthetics?

Uriel.6310

I do feel like this is the case OP. It reminds me of just how we have all been attracted to necro since the start due to its cool “DS” mechanic only to be mediocre in pvp compared to other classes. I do not engaage in pve as much, but I will say that the Reaper will probably deliver there due to its cleaving damage and such.

However, in pvp… I dont quite see where we will improve. We lacked mobility and ways to handle being focused fired all the time. Instead, they made us melee with chill. And while at it, they capitalized on the point that we are supposed to be slow and hard hitting which hints to me that we will forever be known for long cast on long cooldowns.

Meanwhile, ive been trying to find a reason to continue playing my necro in pvp as im getting wrecked easily by other classes that take less skill. And each time I try to compare what the reaper would offer in my current situation in order handle our current issues and I cant find anything.

Over the course of this game’s history Arenanet has shown a lack of transparency of necro problems. And what do they address them with? Either nerfs or subpar buffs.

But because you asked so nicely, ill try.. this one time.

Welp, back to ESO in the meantime.. nothing to see here.

i wish. ESO is garbage.

The classes in the game are more balanced and their developers make more balance changes than every 2 year increments.. its been a breath of fresh air for me.

It says a lot about a game that gets more “balance” changes but is still more crap than a game that gets less.

^

Well something that needs to be considered is that ESO hasnt not even caught up to gw2 in the same terms of how long its been out. (GW2 out since 2011/2012… ESO out since 2014) So if they had both started out at the same, Im pretty sure ESO would win that, and come after the console release they are making progressive gains and being vocal about it rather than hiding in secrecy like areanet. Its also worth noting that classes in ESO arent tied to just one single role thats played throughout the entire meta which im my opinon says ALOT about the LACK of diversity in GW2. Ive been playing GW2 since release and I am playing the same build since I started.

Come HoT, necro is still being force to follow the power meta that everyone runs today. More stacking to kill bosses, more damage now, more dps, nothing new what so ever or support for the team. So. sure Eso has to get more patches due to it being buggy since it’s launch but if it had equal footing with GW2 came out I do believe that would be a different story.

Lets just say that if it wasn’t for condi sucking so much in today’s meta compared to power then I would have never gotten into the whole powermancer thing. And honestly I love power now, however, I was hoping that maybe they would do something to help out those who like to play conditionmancer also and I dont see much of it here.

Instead, the play style has changed completely. And honestly, taking a look at the other specializations their play styles have changed drastically also, especially the dragon hunter. So maybe this is what areanet wants? So, if I want to play condi I am just stuck with the broken skills of the necromancer?

I also did not see anything that helps with our CC break problems or mobility, and now that we have chill being the main focus in keeping enemies close, I dont know if we will see an increase to mobility. So I hope at least they give us something to break CC stuns… otherwise, our SLOW cast will be interrupted every time and the stun locking will continue.

So in the meantime, ill take this gratification that we got something good at least but ill see how everything else plays out.

We weren’t nerfed with this change, with very rare exceptions (Axe Training). The only real disappointment was Blood Magic, a lot of changes were good, but the siphoning still seems really weak compared to other profession’s sustain options.

Surprisingly, yet… the changes we see are kinda lackluster, I did not see anything that promoted something different than what we have already have especially since they talked about how they wanted to see build variety in the game. As it stands, if you want to play PvP then play power, and if you care anything about PvE… go play necro in gw1 lol. No seriously, I dont even see any changes for us in pve and these are supposedly core changes before HoT? I’m not sure what im suppose to do, but ill play their game and see exactly where they take us come HoT.
