Firebird, just because you have two people specifically built for reviving you doesn’t make necromancer more viable than what it currently is.
Finally someone said it lol
Hey Firebird why did you switch to Medi Guard last go4cup when you guys got DESTROYED by HoE in the first game?
Could it be because you felt the necro was a liability?
More importantly, what other class in the game requires teammates to trait just to keep a certain player up? It’s true that Necromancer can work with a well played team, but honestly outside of tournies or serious brackets, I am sure arenanet is interested in making a class viable outside of relying on teammates to make a class work alone. No other class is subjected to this treatment. And with necro being a pretty selfish class, we dont even provide much utility, outside of boon manipulation, to our team which was lost for them trying to make up for us.
(edited by Uriel.6310)
I have been playing condi necro since the beginning and I dont remember us having this much of a problem at doing damage until now. What has happened to cause this? I am still figuring that out. Maybe it’s due to some classes receiving better buffs or the change of the meta has shifted so hard that condi necro has no place in it, but as it stands of now, Necromancer has no way of doing anything while being “focused”. Now, the damage on necro is the same, and it can be quite powerful “IF” left alone, however due to every class having better burst and better ways to catch us, we can not output much damage during team fights. Because of this we are having major issues at keeping up with other classes. With playing condi for so long I will talk about some issues ive noticed with it.
One of our major issues is mobility as we have no way to get out of tough situations once focused fired. Every game that I play, I imagine the opposite team calling target on me and having that red arrow over my name. And it’s quite clear that this is the case. During majority of my games I intentionally show up late to the team fight so that they can be distracted, but once I rear my head, they all switch to me. And guess what? After blowing my 2 stun breakers, I am dead. It’s that simple. They pursue me to no end as they know I have nothing else after that. No blocks, no more escapes, little to no life force regeneration, no damage mitigation, just me walking away from my death (Thats if im not immobilized, dazed, stun, feared, chilled, which in most cases I AM..)
Now before someone, *cough*firebird*cough*, comes in and call BS, its true that we have ways to get out through either locust swarm, spectral walk, or worm, but clearly there are some major problem as 2 of those are our utilities with one being on a long cool down unless traited for and the other can simple be killed and must be in range of it to escape. Also not to mention that to use worm, you will first have to cast it. Now, I know some classes who have MUCH better ways of getting away and do not have to slot for it in their utility bars as they usually bring skills that are helpful to the team. However, due to how the necro is built, we are selfish and we need to bring abilities to keep ourselves up because, well if we dont we are as good as dead. The other escape, which I would not even call an escape is locust swarm. All of these are decent but some classes have MUCH better ways at getting out of a fight, and if they do not, they at least have blocks, evades, or ways to mitagate damage.
And this is what bothers me the most about this class as It has been stated that we are suppose to be an attrition class. And quite honestly, I have no problems with that. Fine, Arenanet wants us to walk away from our deaths and all the thousand CC abilities being thrown at us, but the problem comes in where, we have nothing to help combat any of that. Sure we have a lot of health but it does not make a difference in taking less damage, or surviving longer, we just have more health now.
Secondly, as condition necromancer, if you do not have warhorn, soul marks, or spectral skills, your life force regeneration becomes so minimal that we may as well not even consider DS a thing. Most of the passives for life force generation from other abilites are too minimal and makes no difference. And soon as we work so hard to gain it, it is quickly depleted unless we are traited for vital persistence.
Our damage as condition is ok at best and think we could be MUCH better at it. There are many classes such as condi ranger which has a much better ways at stacking bleeds than we do. Their attacks are faster so they apply bleeds a lot better along with their rooting elite which applies bleeds, their crits applies bleeds, and plus more. And before you know it, your bleeding all over. With necromancer, I find myself having to rotate between all of my weapons and skills just to get my damage going. And that only happens if I am left alone, which is rare, otherwise I am running from two thieves or a guardian during the whole game.
Lastly, our death shroud ability seems to have huge issues. I suppose that they want us to play in Death shroud (change of dumbfire to DS?) more but when going into it, I feel more like I am being punished than being rewarded. It becomes so problematic because our life force ticks slowly as we are in it and coupled with having 4+ people hitting on you at the same time, you will not even know Death shroud existed. I think they need to find a way to make Death Shroud more rewarding. I think DS could be our way to mitigate damage but because it degens and rapidly depletes from hits, along with the use of abilities, it just doesn’t seem to make much of a difference. And also to mention that it locks us out of all our escape abilities which we traited so much for and even gave up other utilities just to escape damage.
I’m sorry but no class should be able to kill another player with full health while downstate.
Oh, oh, let me begin to tell you what some classes shouldnt do to us necros.
It is down right unfair how every class has a way to migtate damage and escape focus fire yet, necro has to literally walk away from CC only to eat more immobilizes and damage, I also shouldnt be the first target in EVERY game because everyone knows I cant escape anyway, I also should not have to give up all of my utility (as if we have that) just to help myself because every theif, warrior, guardian, ranger, or elementalist desecrate me by just hovering their mouse cursor over my character.
And now we are finally down to the last straw where we are only as effective as a class in down state and here you are whining about us? Educate yourself before you come on the forums to whine. We are kitten already outside of downstate.
I think we have only one purpose in this game, boon and condition manipulation which explains why we are even taken in WvW.. and despite that, a mesmer could do that same yet provide much more utility for their team.
As a necro player who has been playing for 2.5 years and come to see that 16 of our traits finally get fixed in DOWN STATE… it shows what arenanet thinks of this class..
Bravo, Bravo!!!! Slap us in the face with 1 stack of stability on our 3rd tier Trait… arenanet stop hiding and answer us necros why you do not like us!
Edit: Oh, and thanks for finally looking at our down state abilities after, what.. 2 years? It will help immensely against those pesky thieves who viciously murder me every game
(edited by Uriel.6310)
How disappointing yet I am not surprised. I am still amazed from a few patches back where =0.5 from locust swarm is considered a buff to our mobility. Honestly, the devs are total disconnected with the necro community and haven’t shown much effort to help us… They may as well change this class from Necromancer to Ping Pongancer cause thats exactly what we’re about to be.
(edited by Uriel.6310)
Oh and Necro has to have “bad” survivability considering Necro can 100-0 people with no effort in a team setting. Even though having two life bars, plague form instant cast, and teleports is extreme survivability as is.
Why should Necro be buffed just because you can’t make it work with YOUR team or in solo que?
Necro isn’t hard to play and is stupidly effective once you understand why they aren’t changing stuff. Why ask for more buffs on Necro?
What keeps me from even defending my point is the fact that in all of your post, and in every thread, you respond like an elitist kitten and you’re quick to call someone a baddie. Not to mention how you even private message me to tell me how bad I play. So it’s obvious your just a forum troll and I dont think we are playing the same game so you can save the explanation of what im doing wrong because its quite clear you are ignorant of the necro class and issues.
You pull out these perfect scenarios from your kitten and act like players play with perfect teams where we can fully pull off our chains without being eaten up by immobilizes and damage. You also mention in your post that its my team and I responsibility for baiting out people’s dodges just so I can land my damage and live, yet you say nothing about what happens when that does not happen? and although the necro form Abjured team played well, he was also getting focused and shutdown just as every necro does in this game. It’s not rocket science to target the most invunerable target in the game, plus its known that if you leave a necro to sit there and pull off chains such as the ones you mention, then it does spell out doom for the other team, but shockingly we do not play the same game where this will happen because everyone knows how easy it is to shut us down.
Any player or team with a brain will focus the necro firist. A necro only has 2 stunbreakers usually and once used to get away from the inital burst, they are dead after. They lack life force generation, they lack abilities in DS to mitigate damage, their stun breakers are only used outside of DS and sit on a long cooldown, conditionmancers, although true they are excellent at controling boons and conditions, takes forever to ramp up their damage due to having to take stun breakers, and the list continues.
I am not a power necro player, however I am not ignorant of them and have played them before and I will say due to their immediate burst, they are a lot better at doing damage but they also face the same issues with having little to no way to answer being focused fire besides walking in death shroud and hoping your team peels for you.
(edited by Uriel.6310)
I don’t have any issues with thieves when I play Necro.
Then please shed light on what your doing differently. A thief has many ways to reset the fight and remove conditions while stealthing. I usually find them running circles around me as im trying to catch them and if I miss that small window of opportunity of downing them before they restleath, im dead.
They listen to us on the forums. As proof, the Revenant has a lot of things that Necromancers have asked for in the past.
What a huge slap in the face to us necros but I guess ill have my tomes lined up and ready once HoT hits
Every profession has issues, they will(claim/said) look at old professions again(one more time) and there is still the necro specialisation but I rather trust their history then promises. They are busy right now hopefully they show necro changes with the specialisation’s so we can give feedback again(one more time) relax and save that energy for HoT and it’s patches.
Although I agree that every class has its issue, it seems we have it worst than some others. We are not acceptable in structure PVE and I understand that some other classes such as ranger are in the same place but they at least received bigger overhauls than we did. We also must be in an organized group to actually excel in PvP, otherwise your food for everyone who calls target on you, and the only other place we are useful in the game which is WvW zerging. It just seems they ignore us every time despite how the necro forums has had some constructive post in the past that have provided many suggestions and its like they do not care. But your right, based off their past only time will tell. Guess ill just play something different to see what they decide to do. Maybe more mobility buffs by taking another 0.5 secs from locust swarm cast…. -_--
(edited by Uriel.6310)
Seriously, this is out of hand. We continue to be at this poor state in EVERY area of the game besides WvW Zerg due to the idea that we are still overpowered. Why am I sitting in soloq eating up every CC there is in this game without a way to handle them? I have put in countless of hours in pvp and I can tell you its not due to my inexperience. I can be miles away from a node and if two thieves notice me, let alone one, it takes me the whole game to just keep them off.
It is clear by now that after 2 years nothing has changed for this class and we have received probably the most nerfs than any other class has since the existence of this game and suffer the most from them. You call us the “attrition class” but building for health does nothing as my health goes from 100-0 within seconds. But wait, maybe I should stack toughness, ha.. only to find out It only spares my death 1 second later.
Our main problem is that our stun breakers are on the longest cooldowns amongst all the other classes, it takes forever for us to ramp up our damage if we are not power, and we lack what every class seems to have, “proper CC and MOBILITY”… I just give up on this class. Also to mention that it would be pointless to wait for the expansion because I have waited since day 1 for our traits to be cleaned up which are still lack luster.
Now I know someone will come and explain to me that my position is off, or maybe I lack the skills, or even more common, I should play with a group. These are petty responses and do not even take into consideration of what kind of player I am. I will admit that I am not pro but compared to other classes, it takes much more effort to do well compared to necromancer. And that I have no problem with, but even when trying hard you will still be floored unless you have a organized group to peel for you and honestly, if thats what it takes to enjoy this class outside of PVE (which we can not do, or WvW) then the necro has very little going for it!!
Im curious to know the same thing. Necromancers never received the kind of attention rangers got in the first place. So unlike rangers who received changes to their traits or even got better AI reworks to their pets, necromancer will be starting off from the bottom from where it was before the expansion even hits.
don’t start this. necros are seeing competitive play in tourneys, rangers are not. necros are on all GvG rosters in WvW, rangers are not. regardless of the changes made, the ranger still has 3 completely useless utility lines and the pets are still trash outside of conquest.
I want to see more changes for all the professions, but the ranger is still broken with the exception of glassbow, which is only a gimmick used for pubstomping.
Correct me if im wrong, but rangers are indeed seeing competitive play in tournaments, I can not recall the guy who has been playing him in the last few tournaments, but he does well as condition or even power ranger, so saying that they aren’t is not true. Secondly, look outside of tournament representation and you will find plenty rangers in rank matches, with most playing power ranger. I have played power ranger myself and after the buff, it takes very little effort to down someone when compared to how some say condi necro takes no skill to play. That is besides the point though.
It’s true, rangers could use more work, I was not making the point that they are overpowered or under, what I am making a point though is that they also needed help in a certain area of the game and got the attention they needed. Necro’s on the other have not besides seeing small increments to skills like “0.5 sec decrease to a skill casting to help their mobility”.
So now I am left to hope specialization helps make up for what we do not have as a core class in the first place? I can not even begin to explain how hard it is to even do well when playing without a team on necro. Otherwise you will sit and eat CC’s for days as you pray that you can get into Death Shroud fast enough or your HP will last long enough as you wait for a century as one of your stun breakers come off cool down. So sure, Necro has a place in PvP/WvW but go try out a necro for a week or 2 and you will see for yourself that they have a huge problem being the “attrition class” arenanet says they are suppose to be.

Im curious to know the same thing. Necromancers never received the kind of attention rangers got in the first place. So unlike rangers who received changes to their traits or even got better AI reworks to their pets, necromancer will be starting off from the bottom from where it was before the expansion even hits. We are still undesired in structured PvE and we even lack the tools to be the attrition class we need to be in pvp. Looking at the revenant skill’s it gains everything that a necromancer would pretty much do to be that melee caster/attrition class… it has all kinds of tools to counter long range and close range while buffing its defense. Meanwhile, the necromancer only has Death shroud and tons of HP to even survive anything, not to mention how hard it is to even gain life force from skills without dumping all our traits into certain trait lines in order get a steady amount of life force from skills in the first place.
And like it has been said before, it has nothing to do with Revenant looking more op than the older classes, but taking into consideration how its skills handle much better than what some classes have, it makes you wonder how will the older classes stay effective or even on top?
As I read what the revenant will be about, I got excited, but slowly I begun to get jealous as I notice that they are so much better than the one class that I wish was decent which is the necromancer. They seem to do everything a necromancer could ever wish to do. Better resource management for their toggle, better way to handle conditions, better forms that are meaningful, close range weapons that are RANGED, and plus more. Maybe I am just jumping ship early, but if necro doesnt at least get some of these nice toys that helps it I’ll definitely be deleting my necro for the revenant as my new main.
Here’s my holy avenger, Mez!
awww.. come here, you need a hug. It’s ok.. come join us other sobering necros who want anet to do this class some justice for once.
This works. Thanks a lot. I will probably be using sword/x as I roam but ill have a GS too to equip whenever I need it.
would it be possible if you could link me with a build to adjust it?
(edited by Uriel.6310)
Just finished getting my ranger to max and ready to jump into wvw. However, Im not sure which stats are best for wvw roaming. I know I could go all berserker but I also would not like to drop like a fly, plus I am under the impression that almost every ranger in WvW is full glass. What mixture of gear should I be trying to attain in order to hit hard yet not fall over so easily? Also, I have rings such as “Vine of the Pale Tree” , it has most of the stats that bersker has but has some vitality to it. Would that be of any use?
I would like to thank you guy for your replies, some great advice from everyone that I will consider. And Ttribio, I can respect that you choose to go against the grain and choose what works for you. I usually do the same to fit what I prefer the most, so (once I get a feel for the class that is) it is nice to know that something works for you that is not considered “meta” which at least tells me that some orthodox builds can work .
And I also understand where your coming from Jim. I know well about “run this as standard” if you want to be most effective. I heavily played necro as my main before leaving and in certain areas of the game if you were not running a particular weapon you were either going to be effective or non existence to your group (outside of world pve).
I hate to make a new topic about this but I could not find an exact answer for this. Im returning to GW2 and want to main my ranger. I understand it takes some time to learn this class and im ok with the learning curve as I am a huge fan of bow/sword wielding classes that can command pets. I am wanting to eventually get into some WvW roaming and was wondering what is the best builds when playing solo and how big of a challenge is it for ranger to handle multiple opponents?
Ive gone on from GW2 to play WoW which has been refreshing but honestly I want GW2 to succeed and be the game I play. I love their creativeness and philosophy behind this game. However, due to the staleness over time and there being too little things to keep me pulled in compared to other games it is why I decided to leave. I check back in time to time but honestly if there was an expansion I would come back. And hopefully it adds depth into what this game already is in order to keep players besides simple dailies every day.
And if no expansion, then I think the numbers in the community would definitely drop if they don’t add more to this game than what they did this year.
(edited by Uriel.6310)
I am hopefully going to get on a PvEr soon to talk about that, probably the same for WvW.
What would people think of build spotlights? Like having a build be the center of the podcast, and talking about it (it probably wouldn’t fit an hour, but at least we’d get some cool stuff out there).
First, I second what RopeChef said. As disappointing as it is with the lack of change to this class, I think you and other experts of this class are essential to being around in helping other necros along the way to learning this class.
As for the spotlight for builds, I think that would be an great idea. It would neat to have like an archive of what is out there available to us, viable build wise, and different variants in the builds that could occur.
I was also recently just listening to your last podcast, and I definitely enjoy hearing other necro’s opinions about the direction of this class. So thanks for what you have been doing and hope to see more from you in the future.
Is carrion gear or celestial the best for this build?
(edited by Uriel.6310)
Admittedly, I think necromancer has to focus a lot more on positioning than other classes. The pay-off is the class does a ton more damage to a team with proper positioning.
Try watching Helseth’s video on positioning. The video is for mesmer, but it has good tips for necromancers as well. In general, you should almost never stand on the point as necromancer, and you should try to stand in places that are difficult to reach.
Yea, I think that is something I am beginning to realize the most. I will check the video out though and hopefully learn something. Thanks.
Necromancer is great in world PvE, PvP, and world vs. world. The only mode the class is bad in is dungeons, which are so easy that just about anyone can do them quickly and efficiently outside of DnT tournaments.
Maybe your build needs work, or you should give a little more thought to positioning than you currently do. Whatever the problem, it’s not the class.
I do beleive my positioning could be the issue, however… it never fails no matter how far I am away, I am always getting focused and fighting for my life to do something. I think the build that ive been using is pretty standard, ive tried PoC or Terror build variations with either US or Foot in the Grave and no matter what, I am being focused and dead before I know it.
Another issue of mines is probably dodging, but there is only so much of that I can do when I have a ranger pounding on me in the back and a thief or warrior in my face.
Why do I have to do more work than any class in this game when it comes to pvp and by the time im fighting off 2 opponents which are ALWAYS on me, I only have a slight chance to actually do something? Why is it that the necro class is so subpar at every game mode? With the recent patch I now not only have to worry about Warriors who are immune to every condition and fear, or thieves who one shot me, or elementalist and turret engis whom cleanse off my conditions as if they were just the common cold, but now rangers too who slaughter me before I can even get up in their face?
What is this? Where is the balance in this game? Am I missing something or is it just me? Why, why, why!!!
/rantover
No seriously though, why are necromancers getting this type of treatment from Arenanet?
if you run condi in dungeons…well no one wants you in the party, sry. it’s good for pvp kinda, but there are much better options for pvp condi.
What?? I think it is given that condition in dungeons is trash in most cases so, I dont think he meant that staff was a great option for condition necros in that area as everyone knows dagger necro is the go to build. However, what other options besides scepter does a condition necro have in PvP? You will never catch a condition necro not running staff / scepter + warhorn or dagger. Thats pretty much staple for a condition necro.

I have already packed my bags. Funny thing is, I was that friend who defended GW2 talking about how great it would eventually be, “GW2 is bad!? its only been a year or so, they will make better changes soon.” And as I continue to play, each patch continued to prove why my friends decided to stop far ahead. What did we get after 2 years? Over simplification, dumb down content, more zerging, and little to no balance changes.
And now having to wait 2 months to move forward in the content that supposedly matters the most to this game, content that the devs are supposedly putting much of their resources in, I can not proceed to even play anymore. I have sadly uninstall with the rest of my unspent gems that I have and honestly could care less. So many friends have left and I feel shameful for even trying to have such hope after the recent changes this game has gone through.
(edited by Uriel.6310)
i am a gamer and you do not speak for me
And kitten long there are players like you whom are content with mediocrity, this game will continue to go in the direction that it has been in the last 2 years.
We the gamers have been disappointed every single time a patch has come out. Who exactly is this game for?? Arenanet or their gaming community? If we throw out suggestions of what “We” would prefer to see and do, but instead they continue to go against the grain, then what is the point in continuing to play? Where is the great Guild Wars 2 that was envisioned before this atrocity of living world crap appeared?
Guild wars 2 is so mediocre now, and honestly its clear they do not even care about the competition that they have from other games who will successfully steal from their disappointed player base. Take a look at the recent numbers, which don’t lie, and we can see that from their recent revenue they have made less this year than they did last and with upcoming new games GW2 is going to suffer even more as they continue to give us scraps as they try to cling on to the rest of this community until the next feature patch.
With that being said, I give up on this team. Thank you for providing fun for what it was but after this patch it is proven there isnt anything else to look forward to until maybe another 6 months of minor changes.
Thank you Arenanet for such wonderful yet shallow content.
lol no complaints about the length at all. I’m soaking it all in like a sponge. Maybe ill be pro like you some day haha. Thanks though, it does make sense after you explain why and where it can benefit in certain situations. Reaper protection it is!
Great! Loving the advice. One more question, I’m now having a debate of whether greater marks is worth giving up for reapers protection as I also take staff mastery. Do you think its safe to drop unblockable and larger marks for a defensive move even though it has a long CD?
Good deal! I actually like that tip and may give it a go. I’ve always been skeptical about Master of Terror too because a longer fear is not always guaranteed with the many stun breaks and stability that other classes have to counter it right away.
So I played around with some of the armor and trinkets combinations and was curious to know if this would be something ideal to run stat wise? http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQNBLhZakjmebLuxvG+bTEMIS2qTkNCQdyoNB-TVxDwAl0HQT9nkK/et+AAzPkCAm5AA-w
this is an arcade, not a roleplaying game.
I don’t know about you but I’m playing a role. And roleplaying means stats anyway, not build diversity. If you have stats and you increase them that’s all it takes.
Fifa 14 has stats (which increases), do you consider it a role playing game?
Do you play a role in this game? I do. I play a warrior or a mesmer. That’s a role. More recently RPGs are games that have stat progression. You could actually consider Fifa an RPG if you’re roleplaying someone who players soccer. That’s a role.
Those who are older in the gaming industry tend to think in rigid outlines because years ago there were less crossover games. There were very few RPGs that had arcade elements. That’s since changed.
Just because a game has platforming doesn’t mean it’s not an RPG. Just because a game has less build variety than another doesn’t mean it’s not an RPG. By what grounds do you say Guild Wars 2 isn’t an RPG, since you made the statement.
I’m talking about the gameplay, the dinamic, you don’t play an RPG here; you play an arcade. There is no difference with games like Assasin’s Creed or DarkSiders, or any action platform game. This in an MMO Action Platform Game. Not an RPG. Stop the false advertising. The “roles” are just cosmetic.
Even call of duty or team fortress have more roles and teamplay on its gameplay than this game.
Don’t get me wrong, I love GW2, I have fun with it… but I won’t consider it a role playing game unless they drastically change their design (which it seems they are doing one step at a time).
role
noun \?r?l\
: the character played by an actor
: a part that someone or something has in a particular activity or situation
: the part that someone has in a family, society, or other group
So essentially, GW2 is role playing, and any game can be considered to be role playing or have some aspects of it so long as your taking control of a character who is not of yourself which you control in particular situations or groups to complete certain activities.
It may not be what you consider as roleplay, but GW2 is definitely that.
on topic: I like where the discussion has gone and its clear to say that GW1 had more build diversity but, in return some skills suffered by being mediocre or not being used at all. And I remember that also which was true. And do not get me started on how each time things were nerfed or buffed, people had to adapt their builds accordingly.
However, some people liked that aspect as it kept things fresh, and then there are those who like simplicity which we have here in GW2. I am not up against the simplicity and few skills that are available but more rather or how much build variety is very LACKING.
The only thing that really separates people within the game from being different than the next person who also plays the same class is Skill. And by that, who can play the build the best is what they have. This is seen more in pvp or WvW however as pve really doesn’t require as much skill as the other 2 imo.
(edited by Uriel.6310)
The build diversity is the same in both games.
GW1 had more skills, sure, but the majority were underpowered and never even used in the first place.
GW2 has less skills, but makes up for it with traits and expanded gear compared to gw1. If two builds used the same skills/utilities but had different traits/gear, those two builds would be played very differently.Additionally, gw1 and gw2 were made by completely different people. Don’t let the ArenaNet name fool you. Almost everyone who set the foundations of GW1 had left the company by the time GW2 got into the picture.
Uhm, no. In GW I could choose to use my pet or not, choose to run traps or not, I could even choose which skills I used to DPS. GW was waaaaay more diverse in builds than GW2, and that’s just Ranger. Each profession had 5-10 builds they could run and still do well(even in HA/TA/RA). Yes there were “prefered” builds for PvP but you still had 3-4x the builds you could choose from.
I also recall the same, when looking at pvp or pve there were usually 3 or more builds one could choose in order to complete the content. Neither of the builds in GW1 were lets say “Not optimal” due to lack of max dps as we see which is the trend in GW2. In GW2 you either fit the meta or you do not. With that alone is a huge difference between the two.
In the past, I use to believe that GW2 skills were going to be something similar to how GW1 worked, and for those who have played the original series would know what I mean. There were multiple builds and usually more than one way for every class to be played in game. But as I played through the GW2 betas that quickly changed.
I am bothered to see now how some classes have more or less builds than others. And even with there being another build, it usually only includes swapping out a few utilities while maintaining the same 5 skills from your weapon. Not only that, some classes have mechanics which keep them from even being played at their max potential or at all in certain game modes. (Necro’s and Rangers).
So to start the conversation, How did we go from creating almost endless combos of builds in GW1 to being pigeon hold into certain builds to fit the meta in GW2? Is there any chance that things will improve or only get worse?
/Discuss
You could always download an alarm and set if for a certain period of time to let you know when you need to move on. There is an app name overwolf which you can download a internal alarm which will go off as you play in game.
I think the very reason for this is, if I remember correctly, because GW2 has looked at other games and modeled some of their ways after them. They have even said so in a article I once read when the game was just coming out. For instance, when we look at how skins are being implemented, or outfits if you will, it also looks similar to how Riot handles skins in League of Legends. Its Free to play, and they make tons of money off of just selling skins and in store items. And guess what? They are successful with it. I am willing to bet GW2 is also trying to do the same.
I wish for much but I expect they will implement nothing.
my prediction:
- tooltips of various kittens now use the correct verb to better display the current state
- new shiny awesome weapons for 10 lion tickets
- new armors for 800 gems (light, medium, heavy)
- 5 new awesome minis who all use the same model but have different shaders
- 2 new fuzzy hats (rabbit and moa)
- Bartender outfit
- new colours: something blue, something dark blue, something light blue, something something blue
- Boss in asuranfalls has a new name and isn’t stuck anymore. Also he is happy
- engineer autoattacks now deal no dmg anymore (because it was op). Warrior healsignet buffed.
- pirate runes now spawn 2 birds
Weelp, someone has found the patch notes for todays patch. Nothing to see here folks. Carry on.
No seriously, this is funny but true. SMH with great disappointment @ Arenanet.
So out of curiosity, if one wanted to roam in WvW and wanted to have good dps but still have some survivability, what would be a good mixture of celestial and other armor to be used to achieve that?
This is the build and gear set I am currently using for small group roaming on my guard.
It is a mix of zealot weapons with celestial and cavalier armor with celestial, berserker trinkets and cavalier backpiece. Everything is ascended gear.
Thanks, ill try to pay around with a similar set up.

I always thought the GW2 community was one of the best I have seen. There are actually worst communities out there, and the negative attitudes aren’t as bad compared to lets say LoL. I have read so many thought out and well constructed topics on issues that someone my not like in the past and, some of the good ones even go as far as putting in simple solutions that they may think would help instead of just whining. Unfortunately though, these topics either go unseen or no one knows if the dev took a look at their topic. So this community is far from bad, it’s just frustrating for some who are being punished by GW2 for playing a certain way in game.
And lastly, Guild Wars 2 has become the most gindest MMO out now.
Clearly has not played STO
Ok, maybe an over exaggeration about being the most, but taking a look at where Guild Wars 2 was before the grind came in, yea its nothing but a grind fest now which is really my point.
Hi, I am probably a casual who used to be able to be that non casual person. I can speak and say that the difficulty for me is not the problem. However, what is the problem is the constraints they have placed on the audience that has no choice but to be casual.
I am all for harder fights, or challenging things in this game, but the main beef of what this game has to offer comes with having time to spare. The end game dungeons, world bosses, and LS all have time constraints on them. Either of these bring problems to casuals who may not have the time to get on consistently for 2 weeks, or make sure their on every specific hour in order to fight a boss that was intended for anyone to see.
As a casual, I am at a loss for not having the time to play. Now, one could argue and say, well you could still enjoy the game. But there is a clear line drawn for each person’s opinion on what enjoyment is for them. Do I enjoy having to grind and now even do it longer? Not really. Do I enjoy having to be forced to play 2 weeks of new content before it leaves? Not really. Do I enjoy having to set my schedule around when a certain piece of content will be available to me? Not really. and etc.
These are the punishments that I do not get. Fine, make the content hard, but would you also not mind giving me time to do it? dont force me to get on at certain times if I want to do something. And lastly, Guild Wars 2 has become the most gindest MMO out now. Its almost up there with a Korean game (Ncsoft anyone?) and their whole philosophy behind leaving trinities behind goes against this.
There’s a term that’s gaining traction, bit derogatory called “Whales”.
Mostly on f2p cash shop games, those are the people that pay obscene amounts of money in cash shops like what GW2 currently has.
Edit: Just to make sure, the term “whales” are the ones they use to call people that spend an OBSCENE amount of money, we’re talking about more than hundreds consistently.
The current practices of slashing loot across the board and the consistent denial on lousy loot tables or inconsistencies can be easily pointed to that. They want to trap more whales that spend money in their cash shop for either clothes or Gold to buy everything save for a key few things.
Oh I can imagine, I was in a guild where EVERYONE has a legendary. and I would not be surprise if one chucked up some cash to obtain it. GW2 notices this too as to probably why they took what players like to do, which was mix armor, and make a system out of it (wardrobe) which requires something from the gem shop.
