Same reason I don’t goto Orr at all.
i have just begun to experience the fringes of orr and gads the respawn rate sucks. i already know i am not going to play orr and either work on alts or move on. When i kill things i want to be able to retreat in a reasonable amount of time if I decide the situation is untenable but that is not the case in this game. Your literally trapped if you move inland in Orr, within seconds.
Plus i am sick of the undead every freaking game has undead and I am tired of fighting them and I hate the insane CC they get just to make the mob difficult. You would think with the death of the lich king we could be done with Undead but no…oh wait thats a different game or I thought it was.
and what do they do and when can you do them. I’ve read a little on them but dont understand
My necro doesn’t feel like a caster, hes current level 71 and dd build. there is no castering. I am melee.
I want to play a caster and there is no necro build that provides that feel. The best we have is a staff build. But this requires minions and i hate the minions in this game. They simply agro everything. I find myself slipping into a secondary weapon set just to move around the environment.
If i am just standing around holding my staff (no pun intended) surrounded by the undead It looks nice has a caster feel to it. But once i run off into the wilds the minions go all over the place. Moving quickly from site to site is not a real option. minions are a pain in this game. I can make them very strong and the build i use for minions can keep them standing but gosh the are dumb just dumb, 1980s Atari dumb.
Another option is the scepter but that also requires minions to have the caster feel so you can cast. Plus the thumping noise the scepter makes doesn’t lend itself to the caster feel. part of the problem is the caster auto attack it does the bulk of our damage and auto attack doesn’t lend itself to a caster feel.
Basically all effective builds for all classes in this game are melee builds up close or minimal distance fighting. Range that is easily closed by anyone.
So is there a build to make casters (especially necros) feel like a caster or am I stuck with melee (light) builds.
what kind of gear and traits should i focus on. Looking pve not so much pvp Just some advice please

the best game i have played that allows decent minion build is city of heroes mastermind. Control, survivablity you could set minions on different mobs, the damage you took was spread out among the minions and you so in pvp people couldn’t just ignore them. Now that class was a true minion masters dream. The AI was something else. Fun
ty very much
must be 15
i see them mentioned but not sure what is meant
don’t level a necro you’ll regret it, i would say elementalist but you spend all your time hopping around like a bunny. Just put that thought away and pick yourself up a class you wont regret later on, warrior. Save your self the frustration. you’ll need one build for solo and another for dungeons and another for pvp just don’t do it.
I think i am tired of dodging everything
There was a DD build suggested in the forums and it has been very fun it relies on DS and blood for healing. The purpose of the build is to keep your DS going with life force you are expected to switch back and forth utilizing DS which with the right gear hits nicely and so does lich.
And in the normal environment it works well..but really what necro build doesn’t do that I can kill mobs very quickly and don’t really need to shift to DS. If you don’t use DS then your traiting all wrong for DD. Currently i am 5 spite 16 blood and 20 soul. my gear has lots of crit and power stuff and some buff to healing.
But in a dungeon or outdoor boss encounter I don’t think this build is going to allow you to contribute anything to the fight. The necro has nothing in its arsenal to prevent or convert much in the way of damage. i don’t seem to be able to get close to the mob without my health dropping quickly especially if it lays out a lot of AOE. I’ve also watched both me health and life force drop just rapidly.
But in the nasty encounters of the dungeons the build fails utterly. My guild didn’t think it would work (in the dungeons) and I think they were right. The problem is we don’t have the health replenishment the thief does, for this build to work in dungeons or intense outdoor boss encounters we need more self healing and we don’t have it nor does it seem arnet thinks we need it. The thief i was running with managed to stay up longer then I did both of us using daggers.
Moreover most dungeons over use status effect to make them difficult i find i spend most of my time on my back (not in the good way). Waiting for the mobs to essentially stomp me. Necros have very little they can do to stop this. Another defect of the class. The DD build relies on getting close but when you do bam status effect and that’s all she wrote. To heal we need to do damage but the status effects prevent that.
I am just just learning the build so it might be me, but i just couldn’t seem to stay close enough to use my daggers without getting smeared. I will continue to work with this build but I don’t think i will be able to use it when i hit 80 if intend to run the dungeons regularly
Also the dungeon mechanics suck and i find i don’t like them
true if your looking for the story part of the dungeon your going to need a guild cause no one wants to do that. Which is the only reason i like to do the dungeons i want to know what happened to the humans. My guild has been good at getting the story runs done for people
oh a great thing id o love is the fact the dungeons i have encountered all have port things near them so its not to hard to put a group together on the fly. So kuddos to that.
Good to see it’s not just me being impatient. I suppose, the biggest issue for me was the lack of sense of progression. Small area packed with dmg sponges every few steps to pin you down. Little penalty for dying due to conveniently placed wp and repair doesn’t help either. Cutting down the hp wall while increasing death penalty would be a good start imo.
what do you mean no penalty. I can’t stand the dungeons. traps that one shot you, continuously in the same encounter. By one shot i mean not dead but where you have to use your stupid keep going skills and pray (which is usually answered) that someone will help rez you.
It’s funny someone bends over to help you and the trap springs again, finishing you off and making him need someone to rez him repeat ad nausium till we all end up in the port room repairing.
If the repair room and port room were outside the dungeon to “punish us” I would never enter a dungeon again. By the time I am done running them any cash i might have made is soaked up in repairs.
I haven’t gotten one thing to use in my runs not one thing. the only gear i have is the blue and maybe green gear i can buy. The dungeons suck kitten There is absolutely no reason to waste you’re time in them. Get to 80 and pray the gear you get then is worth the time. Explore and quest is all i got.
ok leaf head over to the forest with your 39 necro and take out the troll you’ll have 39 levels to learn to dodge and weave every thing that this mob throws out and learn me how great you are. Meanwhile the rest of us who are already leveling up a warrior and necro, and aren’t fanboys of the warrior know that a nerf beating is needed for the warrior or something must be done to bring the clothe classes up with the other classes.
NatashaK obviously you haven’t tried to kite in the champions area or you wouldn’t make the statement. You can kite but you will bring in adds the area very limited. kiting isn’t really the way to win this expect for cloth it is the only way to win it. There are trolls everywhere that spawn on top of you, the fight is long. its not meant to be soloable by any class, except the warrior soloed or would have had i not joined int for the ride.
The point i am trying to illustrate is the dire need to fix cloth. This was not a soloable encounter. Yet it was soloable for the warrior. The argument that some classes are better at soloing is moot here, this was not a soloable encounter. If other classes are gifted so much i want some of that for my toon so I too can solo group encounters. Its only fair. Otherwise fix are issues and bring the warrior inline with the rest of us

no its not a l2p issue, and i know of no one who can solo any of the dungeon bosses. Necro is severally g im pe d or the warrior is severely OP. moreover i have rolled a warrior and ranger and i am finding play extremely less difficult then with my two casters.

i was in the wychmire swap today and came across a level 15 champion troll with a few adds surrounded by more trolls. I am level 39, scaled of course to about 16 or 17. I avoided the troll cause i knew i couldn’t take it or its buddies or any of the other trolls that i would agro cause i am forced to run around like a freaking rabbit.
Someone later engaged the troll a level 27 warrior scaled to bout 16. he had the troll to about 1/2 to 2/3 health when i arrived. He was killing the champions buddies and any adds along with the C-troll. I helped out to get some credit but there was no doubt that he was going to win the fight though it was going to be a long fight. I of course still died just to its periphery damage apparently it belches out some poison which killed me. Well I didn’t actually die because the warrior killed the troll.
Something is horribly wrong with the casting classes in this game. Horribly. I have two sets of health pools and the poison ate through both along with his buddies, but not the warriors. There is no way in h e l l any class should take down a champion anything on its own. And if its ok for this to happen then I want my casting classes buffed to be able to do the same. The warrior made a point to tell me his level as if to mock my class.
Arenet if you dont know how to properly create a casting class take a look at eq2 My wizard has plenty of abilities to keep a mob at distance and kill such critters in that game.
why do you think MMOs always do this to the casting classes. I have yet to see a game maybe eq2 where casters stood on equal terms to melee
prices will not stabilize no game economy gets better it stagnates or inflates. (stagnation means no one is playing) in this game the botters will continue to farm stuff and the prices will continue to rise. in two months or in the spring new players simply will not be able to afford to buy gear. Especially if its getting difficult now.
i don’t want to look at a male while i play. Plus the males really aren’t male, more like androgynous creatures from the land of the PC world. no thanks
another post about….bots
your not doing enough. the new crop of bots cant be targeted for reporting and they’re speed hacking, if they can speed hack what else can they hack in this game. is my information safe. Arnet has a fiduciary responsibility to protect our personal and financial information.
Since i don’t want this to be only a kitten session. You disallow names that are random characters. It can be done my company flags for this in the code. Two charge a monthly fee to prevent botters from making so many accounts. Finally exclude those that are high level from going into low level areas from getting any drops period they can kill but the should not get any reward.
if this isn’t fixed very soon the game will only contain 3 types of people the botters, high level toons and their alts and those with money to burn. The rest of us will move on.
Why botters bad: they tag everything in an area prevent you from getting the drops or exp. They are making it difficult to play in queens and all the other low area starting areas.
i hope thats it i can plug int owow alright anyone else in
since most necros give up on any other build except condition ive noticed a major lack of condition gear for sale on to be had in game. I see lots of heal and power stuff but nothing for condition damage. I am running level 20 stuff cant replace it by using the trading post. I am not entirely sure how the trade system works if its all servers or just our but i haven’t been able to buy basic upgrades since level 30. Ill have to start crafting my self and i really don’t like to craft.
Please don’t mention ask guildies I am. Please don’t tell me to do dungeons for gear ive been trying. I am just point out something that is a side effectt of having only one decent build.
“An error in the character creation was fixed. The class necromancer has been removed.
This was clearly a bug and the remaining 3 who still play the class were banned for exploiting.”
xDDD good stuff
fixed
i just hit 30 i saved up 20 points to buy some of the elite stuff i ran around as a poison cloud and did nothing to anything, cept agro everything when i left cloud form. The golem did just what everyone says it would it ran off or stood around and did nothing. I am not sure the casting classes are really that good. So far necro is ok if your condition spec. so pretty much that’s what everyone runs and consequently no gear available. weird having one viable spec. Is that true of the other classes
you know i played AoC from the beginning and if i recall the necro pets sucked in that game too. maybe its just a trend
thank you for helping
I’ve read about them but not sure how to use them, I think i accidentally use them, but have never used them on purpose?
situation: An event is occurring with lots of people killing lots of thing faster then me which weapon will help me contribute more and maximize my exp. I am currently traited with blood and curses i am level 17.
My condition build seems to work well soloing but not when i need to keep up with killing. I use a scepter and dagger and the weapon change is staff usually.
My minions die fast, Nemesis seems to make them sound viable but so far at this level i spend most of my time re summoning them: are they ever viable or is another build better for leveling?
Any suggestions for killing faster in groups, condition builds dont do it
