The bags are a pretty good start and have potential, but in their current state I find them very boring.
It would be better if they had some items that could scale with the economy, like cores/lodestones or t6 mats. If we could get those items from the bags (randomly of course) it would go a long way to making these bags more interesting and exciting to get.
Please get that magic find garbage out of my dungeons please. I don’t like wearing magic find out in the game world, I like it even less now that i’m forced to wear it in dungeons.
The guy above me makes good arguments.
I hate magic find as a stat, and I hate now that I have to wear my MF set in dungeons. Basically now there isn’t any time for me to wear my good stat gear except for WvW.
Just get rid of that magic find garbage.

I really don’t like to be forced to wear magic find to have the best shot at loots in a dungeon.
Magic Find as a stat is abysmal and a horrible blemish on the game currently; forcing me to wear it in dungeons now just makes me angry and frustrates me. My legendary is now less appealing than my crappy green magic find gear.
I know technically I don’t have to wear MF gear, but i’m too pressured to wear MF now that I am being forced.
Get rid of magic find and get it out of my dungeons.
From the new blog post on ascended items…
We also have plans to add more fun ways to acquire Legendary precursor items with a more “scavenger hunt” feel than they are acquired currently.
So is this coming Thursday or are we gonna have to wait longer for a precursor fix?
I don’t believe such an organization or term exists in the game as of yet. I feel I don’t need to explain why this is the best and most fitting play on words that should be in the game if it already isn’t in some form or another. An event would be fitting, maybe several events revolving around this group of skritt.
I just had an epic dual with a Dragonbrand charr elementalist on top of the hill next to Anzalias Post tower in the eternal battlegrounds. I was a FA charr hammer warrior. We duked it out for over 5 minutes or so before he ran off and it effectively ended in a stalemate.
Whoever that charr elementalist was, thank you sir for an epic dual. It made my week.
I’m gonna have to support this. WvWvW isn’t fun at all anymore.
Its just a frustrating mess of incoherent people scrambling to counter the new exploit of the month.
free transfers should have been cancelled like a month ago.
And yes, free server transfers have already killed WvW. Its not that they will, its already done. This ranking system is great but it doesn’t account for the fact that entire populations hop around multiple tiers, essentially making rankings worthless.
This takes zero skill to do. You just use 1 mesmer’s portal to move around.
This is just mind boggling how broken this setup is. WvWvW is toast until all these exploits are patched up.
I’m almost positive the hackers just congregate to the winning server each week and hack it up. The same type of person who is gonna hack a game to win is the same one who is gonna transfer to the winning server just to have an easy time.
Last week against DB and BG, there were no reports of people from FA hacking at all. Instead it was all people from DB hacking the orbs since they had the lead the majority of the game. This week its FA, and we most certainly didn’t have any hackers last week (we got crushed against BG and DB, hackers would have been a blessing).
Just another reason server xfers need to stop.
Flyhacking is an exploit genius. Also learn to read, portal is almost NEVER on my bar. It is hardly “my crutch”.
There are already limiting factors on how portal can be used. They are – Must be within radar range, exit portal must be put down within 60 seconds and there is a 15 second window to use the portal. If you cannot see a large group of people within radar range getting ready to use the portal and react accordingly (like watch where the bloody mesmer puts down the exit portal and position yourself) you deserve whatever is coming to you. How about learning spot a tactic and countering it rather than just saying it’s OP because you can’t do it.
Learn to take notice of your surroundings and stop crying when the other team is clearly working together more effectively than yours.
Betting all my money that this guy has a portal, and is mad, and likes roflstomping armies with invisible armies.
Fact is, portal is hard to counter. That makes it unbalanced. You can’t kill the portal once its down. Its instant cast so all the mesmer needs to do is sprint into the zerg with a speed buff and then its there for anybody to use and there isn’t anything the other team can do about it but try to counter whatever comes out. Whatever comes out is a problem because of the rendering issues, and its really hard to kill invisible armies. This fact makes using portals to transport mass armies almost an exploit, seeing as how the reason its so effective and why the other team “just gets massacred” is because they can’t freaking see you. Thief stealth breaks upon using an ability, so that isn’t an option for debate at all. Finally, because the nature of using mesmer portals in WvW is essentially a surprise attack, that makes it that much harder to prepare against what they bring.
So basically in a nutshell, a team who is getting portal’d on has to deal with an invisible army coming out of a portal they can’t close and the realization that this needs to be done has to happen in the time span of about 3-5 seconds, depending if anybody saw the mesmer lay the second portal or not, and how fast they can type a warning in map chat that nobody reads. Sounds pretty balanced to me /sarcasm.
I’ve been trying stuff for the past hour and a half to get this meta to start up and I haven’t had any luck. I’ve been in the zone for over 3 hours and the event hasn’t happened.
Anybody have any further luck figuring our what the specific trigger is for getting this event up? I’ve tried looking around for a 3rd book and messing around with the two books in the swamp (the one in the necro hut and the one with Scholar Taryn). I’ve luck with neither, day or night, and no luck when both are up at the same time. All I keep getting is the mob that spawns and then the portal disappears and nothing happens. Leaving the mob up didn’t do anything either.
Any input?

Dissallow players transferring servers to participate in WvW until match reset plz
in WvW

This is absolutely a huge problem. People keep switching servers solely because of WvW. Because they keep doing this, servers are never going to become stable and mass amounts of players will keep server hopping and shuffling around, changing the overall quality of the servers.
FA has definitely seen the worse end of how transfers can affect the game, while BG has benefited from it tremendously (just looking at trends between the weekend versus the past couple of days).
I totally endorse the suggestion in the OP, and hope that something is done like it for this next set of games. Until such a restriction is put in place and people are actually forced to pick a server and stick with it, no true balance will ever be achieved.
If 1 person can hack and orb and give their entire server a marginal advantage across all 3 servers, then the orbs are too powerful.
Dragonbrand had all 3 orbs going into prime time last night thanks to hacked orbs; that is just a stupid ridiculous buff that can’t be countered in any way, and gives them a powerful lead.
Stuff like that isn’t right. That shouldn’t be allowed to happen from 1 person hacking the game. 1 person shouldn’t have the power to control the flow of 3 servers fighting each other like that.
Everybody transferred off FA and abandoned us. We had a steady competition until people wussed out and transferred to the people who started to catch a lead.
Also Dragonbrand’s their lead is only because they keep hack stealing orbs. Its an illegitimate lead as far as I care.
(edited by Vrumpt.1072)
I’d be happy to ignore the people if it didn’t affect the overall meta so much. Dragonbrand had all 3 orbs going into prime time last night thanks to hacking ours and potentially hacking Blackgate’s. That is just absolutely huge, and 1 person can do that and screw over everybody.
That’s just not right, these orbs are too powerful.
Its just demoralizing. I was there when Dragonbrand stole the orb from us (Fort Aspenwood) a little while ago and I don’t have any desire to play WvW right now.
Whats the point in fighting for stuff if hackers are just gonna steal our orbs, or hack mesmers into place for portal dropping? I’m not arguing the validity of mesmer portals, but now we have to question whether that mesmer was hanging around or if he hacked his way inside.
It just kills my desire to play WvW, and I LOVE WvW.
Not sure that’s a hack, that’s a mesmer portal… and one of the reasons it’s critically important to clean a keep of any insiders. You leave a dead mesmer and an alive thief inside, yes, the thief can rez the mesmer than make your hard earned victory melt to dust.
This is not a hack, this is game mechanics and something that makes WvWvW. It’s unpredictable and an instance where two players can make a HUGE difference in a game with armies of hundreds.
There is a counter too it with game mechanics, not coding, therefore not a hack.
They didn’t portal their way into the garrison. Suddenly the alter was smashed and the orb was lying on the ground. I was in the room when it was like this. A minute later, the orb was gone, and everybody was going “whered the orb go” in chat. Seconds later, the orb is in the Dreaming Bay keep.
That isn’t a mesmer portal, but since they’re using hacks, the mesmer portal that caused us to lose Dreaming Bay could have been a hacker as well. You just don’t know anymore.
Title says it all.
We took the bay keep where Dragonbrand held the orb. We successfully ran the orb up to garrison.
A few minutes later a mesmer portals the army into the bay keep again and they take the keep as a result of this. The orb is still in FA posession.
10 minutes after that, the Alter inside our garrison is smashed, the orb is taken, and a couple minutes later the orb is in the Dragonbrand keep. Garrison was never breached in any way.
Sorry if this was meant for a CS forum, i dunno which is better for this.
I couldn’t get any names of anybody to report them, everything happened instantly and the orb just disappeared after it was left lying on the ground after the alter was smashed.
EDIT: forgot to mention this was on the Fort Aspenwood borderlands.

This is why transfers need be restricted in some way to benefit WvW.
Don’t let people play WvW until the next match rotates. Why isn’t there a billion page long thread supporting something like this?
Seeing posts like these really disheartens me. I really really want to log in and play bug if I can only get in 45 mins of farming in before I’m forced to stop then whats the point? My pace is exactly as being described here and It’s super easy to chain events in Orr, so I know i’ll hit it if I log in and start farming.
My issue is why even bother? I don’t want to be forced to take a break when I choose a game I want to play. Right now i’m having issue with motivating myself to log in to progress on my farming, because I WILL hit the DR system.
And the fact that the only DR system being recognized is the dungeon one really grinds my gears. I don’t have an issue with that one since tokens drop in greater quantities now, nor the item drop one since it keeps the economy stable. Karma on the other hand is needed in vast quantities and can’t be traded, so there is NO reason to have a limiting system on it.
I don't want to sit and farm Penitent/Shelter's/Jofast's camp all day, but I sure feel compelled to

I spent an hour doing a circle around the cursed shore, farming nodes and doing any and all events that I saw, along with killing most of the undead I ran into because they’re annoying and I don’t like kiting them when killing is maybe 4 extra seconds. When I finished my circle I checked my loot and it was notably less than what I could have gotten by just farming those defense events in the same amount of time.
I don’t want to sit around and farm the same 3-5 events all day, its boring. I want to go out and explore the world, do different events, kill the big veterans and champions I see walking around and tucked in the little corners of the world. I want to be able to leave the cursed shore when I start getting tired of looking at the same scenery. I want to go back to the Shiverpeak Mountains if I want to and do events there and run around the mountains. I’m also starting to sound selfish with the “i wants”…
The problem is if I go do any of those things, I feel like i’m getting punished, because I get better/more rewards for farming those camps and sitting in the same general area than I do for moving around and doing different things. I don’t want to be tempted by the carrot and the stick thing, and I know that I can do any of those things that I listed if I wanted to right now, but right now i’m sitting on a dilemma of wanting 2 things but only being able to choose one, because I also love getting rewarded for my play time with stuff I can actually use.
The fact is, these 3 camp events and the ones immediately around them reward way too well to even think about moving anywhere else.
Is anybody else in the same boat as me? Wanted to move around the world but see no reason to do so when camp camping gives so much loot?
I definitely think your chance to receive loot from event mobs is dependent on how much damage you do to it.
The pattern i’ve noticed in Orr events is, if I can get 1 or 2 AoE hits in on a group of mobs and get xp, i’ll generally get nothing. If i can get lucky and get 3-5 hits in though, those monsters will give me much more drops. This pattern has been pretty consistent with me. So at least in Orr, I think damage plays a big role in what loot you can get.
The biggest problem with this if its true though is that it pretty much only rewards power builds and leaves condition builds or support builds punished for not speccing for a loot friendly power AoE build.
I feel like this has to be a bug. It was probably intended to diminish returns of the same event being run over and over again, not the other way around.
If this isn’t a bug and they are actually diminishing returns on events now, then consider me dumbfounded.
Loot has a soft cap already, dungeons have a soft cap now, but giving events a soft cap? That just doesn’t make any sense. As others have pointed out, karma can’t be monetized, and neither can XP/skill points. Its estimated you need close to a million karma for legendaries, so that is the market events at 80 are going to be for. Making those players angry kills off most/all of the hardcore players. I can’t see this being intentional.
In response to OP, this problem persists across the entire game. Its especially prevalent in Orr though, as there are a number of “Defend the outpost” events that simply revolve around camping where the packs spawn and AoEing them down in 1-3 seconds after they spawn. They don’t even come close to failing.
This problem stems from poor DE scaling, and has a number of negative effects on the game:
1. As you pointed out, chains that aren’t triggered never happen, and can lead to a dry spell of events in an area if event chains are just stuck on the winning side of the pendulum all the time.
2. Because many chains are stuck on the winning side of the pendulum, the world feels much less alive, and these fantastic dynamic event chains are reduced to being glorified public quests that pop up every 5-10 minutes.
3. Because we are stuck on the winning side of the pendulum in almost every area, we also don’t get to see many of the cool dynamic events that happen when we fail a chain. I’m willing to bet most players who play during normal hours (myself included) have never seen many of the events that happen when we fail, because its so difficult to fail events. This is a huge chunk of content that the main player base for each prime time region haven’t seen, and won’t see in the game’s current state. This is also a chunk of content that I would love to see myself.
4. The poor scaling of certain dynamic events makes it very difficult to get “kill tag” credit sometimes. Events that involve waves of enemies have the enemies spawn all at once and running all bunched up. The scaling that happens here is that we just get more enemies, while the HP of each stays the same. This makes them very susceptible to burst AoE attacks, which puts players who have condition builds at a huge disadvantage. This promotes power builds almost exclusively, especially in Orr where waves die very fast. Its hard for me using a power AoE build to get my hits in sometimes, and there isn’t any way I can see condition builds getting gold consistently at all.
So those are the problems that I’m seeing at level 80, and all of them stem from the fact that events scale poorly, making it near impossible to lose a chain and progress down the negative path.
I do want to say that there is one event that I think is scaled very good and is a great challenge and fun fight, and that is The Claw of Jormag event in Frostforge Sound. This is currently my favorite event in the game by far. Its fun, its challenging, the mechanics are interesting, it scales very well to the amount of people in the area doing it (often well over 100), people go down a lot if they mess up, and while it doesn’t have a failing criteria to support its challenging nature, its the best dynamic event I’ve seen so far.
I do hope these issues are addressed in the future.
I agree with the OP. I think a pretty simple solution would be if every time an event repeated where you had to defend something, the difficulty (HP+damage) of the monsters would increase slightly until eventually the monsters are able to achieve their goal. That or anything to give monsters an edge in achieving their goals with large meta event chains.
It would be incredibly refreshing to see the losing side of things though, and I would love to see increased difficulty for events in the future.
I seriously believe that the fight is bugged. Zaitan even animates attacks but does nothing. Surely the Elder Dragon, with control over an army of undead and 100s of dragons, would throw something at you when he is at the risk of dying. I don’t buy it being easy for lore reasons.
I’m of the same belief. There were even globs of something falling on the bridge behind us, not to mention the seemingly useless 1 and 3 abilities on the cannons. Not only that, the final bosses for Sorrow’s Embrace and Citidal of Flame were mechanically much more interesting and enjoyable than the Zhaitan “fight” was, so we know those interesting fights exist. I truly hope the fight is bugged in some way, because mashing 2 for a couple minutes to kill one of the most powerful beings in Tyria is just disappointing.
