Been with GW2 from the beta. I have also been the worst thief NA since beta! I’m an old guy with some health issues plus a low skill cap, so thief has been my bane from the start. I rolled a P/P-SB (full PTV set) and decided I would just go have fun pew pewing in WvW. (the teenager in me loves making that noise from unload) I found I could solo camps, keep up with most other players (or hide and run like heck), lock down players for my group, and basically felt like a Swiss Army Knife on the playing field. Not so great at everything but pretty handy at a lot of thing.
My knee jerk feelings to the changes to P/P and SB was one of eminence sadness but to be fair I have not had a good chance to play around with it yet. Sounds like sadness buff inc.
I do hope that one day the good folks at Anet will make the pistol/ pistol build a great option for those of us that get a bang out of life.
I have a few thoughts.
1. Guidon Carrier Skin – While transformed you have 0 combat skills and receive no damage until all of your party members have been killed, then you are put into combat and loose the skin. Maybe have a commander version to rep server colors/ identity?
2. Bugler/ Aeneator Skin – While transformed you have 0 combat skills and receive no damage until all of your party members have been killed, then you are put into combat and loose the skin.
Skill bar is replaced with musical calls that represent: Advance (push), Withdraw (pull back), Rally (rally on me), Stand Down (stop or do not fight), and maybe a Disband call?
Anet could offer a whole selection of instruments in the cash shop on this one.
These features could work in PvE but it would be nice for this community to have something of their own that creates guild/ server pride on a whole different level.
All of this could be tweeked/ changed to have the same affects….More or less?

Keep a Great Sword and Long Bow around for different uses you may run into.
Using this build you will find with the right group buffs you can get close to 34k HP and 3K power with no crit.
Try it. Its inexpensive, simple , and will get you through most anything except solo roaming. (its about 50/50 in 1 on 1 pending on what you run into and your skill)
This build should not suffer to much with the upcoming changes.
I have a Supper Cheese Mesmer (full on Blackwater build with full ascended/ legendary everything) I have been playing for the last 2 years and have now moved over to Necro to find out how in the world they work because they give me so much trouble. Imagine my surprise when I run onto this post. The worst class to face off on in my opinion with the build I run. In order of difficulty for me are:
1. Lock Down Mesmer
2. Condi Necro
3. Condi Engi (some of the good ones are a pain)
4. All the other classes if the driver has put the time in and learned their class and how to deal with other classes can be a real challenge.
Now if I could just get one of you salty Necro’s to give me all the Pro tips like Chaos Archangel did for this OP? I would have it made with my new Necro….
Likes:
1.) Verity of combat.
2.) I like the maps (more or less) just need more.
3.) Battles for real estate/ especially Keep holds.
Dislikes:
1.) Rewards- First one I think of is: Take a keep get 3 dragonite ore? (Tower maybe but a keep??) Achievement points not so easy to come by in WvW either. Many more but…
2.) Coverage Wars. No clue how this can be fixed or if it should but I am not a fan!
3.) WXP not account bound.
No Warrior is a surprise to me. My experience is: 1 Shout Build Warrior + 1 Shout, Heal, Boon Build Guardian together is one of the strongest cores to any serious group you can have. I think some one posted further up “God Like” and they are spot on!
But again this is just me……….
I’m only gonna put my thoughts on the perma-stealth thief build on here once and never again.
They nerfed the perma-stealth assassin in GW1 because people in PvP complained about it. If they haven’t already, they will nerf it again in GW2 due to people in PvP/WvW complaining about it.
No one likes the Thief on their back! Everyone likes the Thief that has their back!
Most only consider the former and not the latter. (has been my experience)

I have had a request #28439 in from Thursday on. I receive emails back from customer support but no resolution as of yet.
I mostly do WvW, so I dont know much about dungeons.
But for me I ditched Perplexity for Travelers and have 0 regrets. They are friggen awesome.
I would put them on a power build in a red hot minuet! (the gain of speed over the loss of X is just to big imo)
I home base out of Lions Arch and with the latest patch/ new content loading into LA and then making the jump to WvW takes forever.
I get that I could base elsewhere but would there ever be a consideration to load straight to WvW from log in?
This may be even more important with the start of Leagues. (not sure)
I am no good at build synergy but 2 things that jumps out at me. One is the lack of mobility. Looks like you have about 7 1/2 sec of speed buff off of chaos armor/ storm combined and blink up every 24 sec for port. It will leave you feeling like a boat anchor for the other 16.5 sec. (this at times will hurt in WvW)
Also I have found Time Warp good for very little (buffing golem’s at a door) in WvW.
Mass Invisibility would give you an escape and the cool down is the best in the elite’s.
Don’t know if these will help, just my 2 cents.
Side note: The guy doing the video above is Team Battle Axe / aka: El Taquito Bandito could be one of the best Thieves in the game and uses no stealth.

For over a year now I have looked for every moment I could to play GW2 with my friends in WvW. Investing HUGE amounts of time and some real $$ into this game because I like it so much. I have 9 lvl 80’s and a 40 something? Almost 40k kills in WvW and Im one of the guys with low kill stats in my guild. I feel like the guild I belong to is known for its WvW presence. In NA-prime we (at best) put together 3 five mans at our peek but 2 is more the norm on good nights. In the past other guilds/ players have looked for members or our guild for “The good fight”. We are community oriented in that we frequent these forums, our servers webpage and most belong to the same independent gaming webpage.
Where am I trying to go with all the rambling above?
Over night my guild has disintegrated with members moving to new games, over to PVE (grudgingly), or are just taking a break.
I busted my hump to make my shiny new ascended staff for my mesmer and even though I could not get my mats in WvW as easily as PVE. I was looking forward to making my next ascended weapon. These things I do to support the people I enjoy playing this game with and now it looks like they may not be there to WvW.
For my part I like the looks of the changes to the center of the borderlands maps but that is it. The rest of the patch dose not make sense or feel like a good fit to me.
I know it is a numbers thing and the good folks at Anet try to do right by the majority of their customers and I respect that. My hope is that whatever lies ahead will bring my server, my guild, and my friends back to a game we all have enjoyed so much.

the meta is the sum of all strategies used. fotm is (usually) whats good in the meta at the time. your “the usual” is part of the meta, your contribution to it.
meta zerg should be replaced with mega zerg here tho >.>
gom isnt thinking about zerging your zerg. and i mean that in the sense of like… brainstorming ideas of what to do, strategies, thinking about chokes and siege, etc. thatd be meta zerging. theyre just zerging. meta-something is like taking a step back and thinking about the bigger picture and how that something fits into it.

Not sure where they ended up. (I wana say Blackgate for some reason?) I only remember running with them 2 or 3 times but I do remember they where a very good guild with good people.
it is really sad that GoM has to resort to using hacks in order to get ontop… yesterday saw a few people from the [ART] guild using speed hacks when the magically capped ET garrison, Hills, Bay which were all fully upgraded in under 5mins when u didn’t even knock down hills walls/gate and we had control of it for over 4hrs, then today 2 people from [RH] (Raven Hold) an eng and a hunter using auto dodge hacks, dodging any immobilizes thrown at them even in the middle of being pounded on..so in my opinion if GoM wins this week they didn’t deserve it at all, lost all my respect.

I not much for posting on the forums nor do I go out of my way to fight Mesmers……But..
Last night I come out of the south gate of GoM Hills (around 8:30ish EST) and with the help of a few other push off some defenders. (nothing special) I go back up the steps and stop at the top turn around to see a Mesmer on my side of the bridge. I think if only he comes up here I have the NPC’s to help me deal with all the clones but he bow’s instead. Then its O’ crap this guy wants to duel. So knowing I don’t fair well against a Mesmer I excepted.
Here’s what I learned. I am still not good at fighting Mesmer’s. The guy I fought is a class act.

kudos to GoM for their efforts in WvW and rebuilding – in the end I think GoM and us are going to get some transfers when pay for transfers go live as we should be cheaper – looking forward to the fights GoM always brings it
Yep. I’d been pretty much just roaming and flipping camps solo for the last few weeks since my gaming group only does dungeon runs now. I got the chance to run with RH a few times and had a blast. Good people, extremely well-coordinated, and always willing to take the fight straight to your doorstep no matter how outnumbered or behind on the scoreboard. As soon as they told me they were sticking with GoM after free transfers were over, it was a no-brainer for me.
I’ve noticed that several other freelancers I’d see on a daily basis have also recently joined up with other great guilds like [ASH] and [RISE]. I guess we’re all on the same wavelength that with many guilds leaving for greener pastures, we really need to stick with and strengthen the ones that stay. We don’t have a server-wide alliance or anything, but we’re definitely becoming more tightly-knit.
One thing imo that would help is if more of our server was on voice chat. (at least the commanders and dedicated WvW guilds) Typing anything kills only time and not defenders!

I have to honestly say it is match-ups like this week that pull you in. I enjoyed it tremendously the back and forth battles. The sportmanship in game and on these postings really make one smile and want to play more. Here’s to another week of good times, great battles, hair pulling, and laughs!

My first toon was a Ranger and I got my world completion on it before I moved into WvW. Took some time to make a full GC spec using LB & Axe / Warhorn. Took me even longer to understand I was not a front line fighter with my build. I do not play my ranger much in WvW anymore but still enjoy it when I do. I do think when on the Ranger I benefit my team.
The one thing I notice the most is how fast the Ranger gets focused by an organized teem of defenders. My experience is a good team will typically go after green arrows, cloth classes and Rangers first. (be ready for this OP)
Toon’s in the order I like to play the most (in WvW) are:
Necro. lvl 80
Ele. lvl 80
Guardian lvl 42 (current toon playing in WvW and could be my #1 at lvl 80)
Thief lvl 80
Ranger lvl 80
Warrior lvl 80
Mesmer lvl 32 (This guy is a boat anchor in WvW at current lvl but should be killer at lvl 80)
Engineer lvl 1 Not started yet.
I don’t see a lot of Great Sword build Rangers in WvW. It did not fit my play style. I did try Sword / Dagger for a while and liked it. In the end I opted for the Axe for the multi target and chill and the Warhorn for the hawks (good single target damage) and Call of the Wild for the team fury, might , and speed buff. (a lot of rangers over look the fury and might buffs. Its a good opener to any fight) Long Bow has a lot to offer.
Like any class I think you should find what works for you tempered by what you can find on the forums to hone your build.
Some thoughts:
Guild recruiting banners with some benefit/ bling for both?? (more for or just for the recruit?)
A better “Outmanned” buff that has a multiplier for new to WvW players?
