Oh boy. How do i say this…?
Don’t bother? It won’t come out in another 2 years or so (being lucky) I lost faith myself. The client should’ve been ready for ages. The game was released in 2012 for crying out loud. Only now, after 4 years of selling this crap to mac users they decided it was time to start looking into an actual client.

Anyways. Don’t bother, won’t come out this year or the year after that.
I’d suggest you found a game studio that actually listen to its fanbase and more importantly, when they announce a mac client, it’s an actual client. lol

If bootcamp is the answer there wouldn’t be no complains because mac users bought the game knowing they would only have it performing well on windows. That’s not the case.
They continue to advertise “mac client” which is a bait for more unfortunate mac users that will later on be forced to bootcamp if they want to continue to feed their addiction.

I gave up on ANet and gw2, it’s sad because the only mmo that i enjoyed this much was WoW, which runs smoothly on mac.
Like Lews said, i’ve tried ESO because it runs like a proper client should, not like this sad excuse to steal our money.

I regret 300% in buying this product (100% being my time, another 100% buying the original game when they announced the client and the other 100% being the expansion) silly me right? thinking that after 3 years and an expension they would actually heal this cancer

I’ve given up. If they haven’t done anything in more than 3 years, they won’t do it now.
Some of the experienced mac users say there will never be a mac client as they have no money to invest in it. But a 200 thousand reward for pvp league they have to spare.

I call BS on all arguments for why ANet still hasn’t given anything worth the money we paid for yet. They do have the money, they just won’t waste it on a smaller portion of their customers.

“Windows has a working client and mac doesn’t have a client at all? I know the solution, let’s invest our money and manpower on another windows client!”

They are falsely advertising a product that in 3 years had 0 progress.
ANet is by far the worst company I unfortunately crossed paths with.

Hey is Anet ever going to fix the annoying crashes?

It’s getting really annoying to crash in WvW every 20 minutes and then spend 30 minutes waiting in queue.

they only fix the client when they fix the windows version and by miracle it applies to our wrapper as well

I’m still crashing, but its every 25 minutes instead of every 5 minutes.

That is a new feature in El Capitan. It’s separate to the USB booting that is available on all macs without a disc drive. Though the feature may actually not carry across to 2011 MBP’s, I would assume it does however. It’s software based, rather than EFI/hardware based.

If it does work on 2011 mbp’s that sounds very promissing

I’ve upgraded to El Captain and unfortunately my hopes of bootcamping were crushed…. it still asks for a Windows CD giving no option to use an ISO

Even worse news: the game even on worse settings continues to choke my fps and my toon continues to walk like 10 meters before coming to a full stop.
This kills my pvp and pve experience as the game has many jump puzzles (even if they aren’t that hard) and when im on pvp when i try to dodge to any side, the only way he goes is rolling forward… this is very disgusting.

playing on a VM is just as bad as using the client. If you want to install windows on your mbp, you might as well try using bootcamp, the perfomance will be way better. Although not every1 is able to bootcamp

ANet just updated us! Thank you ANet for the update, for the first time i managed to play the game on medium settings without a terrible fps (i tried for a few minutes, i still can’t believe i’m able to do this on the mac client, hope the game doesn’t prove me wrong in a near future).

No, ANet updated the 32-bit Windows client which was crashing frequently, which was why the 64-bit beta version was pushed out, and it happens to also help the Mac version.

This is what they have been saying all along. Fix the common issues that affect everybody first and then they can look at the ones that only affect Mac users.

But he was shouted down and had 27 additional days of nothing but disparaging things said about the ANet and the team(s) in charge of the game engine and it’s cider adaption. But one fix went in hand with the other.

Would a native client be better, hella yes. But unless they rebuild their engine to be cross-platform or a business argument could be made to pay someone to create a true Mac port all you are going to get is Cider wrapped version and the PC users will be stuck with a Dx9, limited threaded version of the client.

You keep asking and so will we.

Dnt get me wrong. This fix was nice but our goal is still far from sight. This thread will keep being bumped into the top 10 until we get an oficial date for an actual working client and take the beta sticker out. We still didnt pay full price for a beta wrapper. We paied the same price windows users did and you guys have a client with constant work put into it. Thats our goal: Have the same treatment you guys do as we paid the same price you did for the exact same product that has an ad saying they support our OS

I said thanks too early. After we got that update i thought i would really finish Dragon’s Stand at last! I haven’t finished the full map before. All was ok till i got crash on last islands encounter…

I still have hope to finish it but don’t go before we get newnew update from Anet

The fact that we got a fix in almost over an year is still good. Would love to see them on a regular basis though

I really don’t know what to make of this game anymore… when you’re able to play, be sure that the next patch will make it unplayable.

43x replies from many mac users and still no acknowledgement of our issues. If they can’t fix this just give us our money back, send us our way home, DELETE THAT FALSE ADVERTISEMENT FOR MAC and stop making more customers upset.

Mac client? I tell you, everyone is having Crashes… even if you find an Alien computer GW2 is gonna crash there and everywhere. I didn’t know the problems you (Mac users) are having with client and crashes-glitches… but if you wanna know, 3 of 5 more posted threads have a “Crash” topic. If HoT was an “explosion” instead of an “expansion”, yesterday’s patch was an atomic bomb… It seems they are trying so hard to make it worse… It’s just unplayable for PC’s and Mac…

The difference is they work on the client for windows.
On our side we haven’t had news, nor a single patch in years.

The website selling this product is telling a complete different thing than what it actually is. All Mac players are having a hard time, whilst on the windows side it’s a part of them, not all.

Besides they take their time to reply to you guys. As you can see this topic is 1 month old and has no actual info whatsoever, and it’s been like this for ages.

The only way mac users can play (for a few hours maximum before crash) is by setting everything to rotten potato settings. I’ve never been able to see this game run properly with sweet graphics on the mac client, a 3 YEAR OLD BETA that has no deadline whatsoever. God i’d be surprise if they are even working on it

Ok, I know playing on a Macbook (and not bootcamped) is not the best option, but as of the last month or so I can’t seem to play longer than 10-15 minutes before a server crash, host crash, or network disconnection. I’ve checked my network – no issues there. I mean I was used to it crashing every once in a while, but now I can barely play. It seems to have come from the last patch, but I’m not sure. Is anyone else on mac experiencing anything similar?

- Ok, and seriously, why is the mac client not out of beta after 3 years?! Get moving!!!

I’m getting these quite often as well. But as painful as it sounds, i rather have this instead of fps jaggering the entire gameplay.

It’s funny how we never manage to get a fully working client, we have to choose which bug is more acceptable than the other and learn to play with it.

I for once managed to finish a night time VB event (the dragon at the canape was major lag, probably 5 fps) i was already accepting my fate of being crashed as the event finished, luckily me it wasn’t that time.

I simply cannot understand why we don’t get an official reply detailing exactly whats what.
This thread is getting bigger and bigger.
It is a disgrace how the problem is being handled
A-Net has yet to release raids etc so i can’t see mac players being addressed anytime soon.
once they’ve got the kinks out of their already buggy windows client (which will take a good year as far as I’m concerned) maybe then they will turn to the mac community.
But that is just wishful thinking, 3 years old.
Ive spent money on this game, not only for the expansion but within the game, funding the development of a mac client and future expansions. just like the ever growing mac community.
but we don’t get replies, we aren’t given reassurances.
A-Net has mislead an enormous amount of people, and continue to do so with false advertisement and blatant ignorance

Truth be told, they haven’t given a crap about us in 3 years, and it wont be today, nor next year, or the year after that.

Our client is falling apart. Still, they make a 64bit client for windows users. They already have a good functioning client, even if its 32 bit they get to play on at least medium settings without crashes or terrible fps, which is completely opposite on our side.

In 3 years I’ve heard inumerous times they were looking at the client and fixing things but there was no timeline.
3 YEARS AND STILL NO **** TIMELINE!

They take our money and invest on the windows client. Just talking about it gets me all worked up and I’m already angry just by typing what every mac user feels.

3 years: close mac only part of forum (never had a mod specialist there to assist us); Our problems get burried over here because of windows threads; this thread has a month and all we got is the same lame excuse they have been giving us since launch!

They make 2 clients for windows users and give us this piece of 3 year outdated crap!

I don’t think that all of us who can doing a swap to bootcamp is the solution to this, though. They advertise a working mac client, but they don’t actually have one. They knowingly sold us a broken product in the form of HoT and the core game had been in terrible shape for the last year and a half or more.

This is an ongoing issue of complete neglect of the mac client.

I agree completely with you. If that’s what they meant by mac support, they are intentionally misleading the customer.
That thread is another example of how incapable they are in giving actual feedback and fixes… Yesterday i crashed twice on edge of the mist, and that’s when i can play the game, because most of the time the game’s fps somehow goes bananas and is unplayable.

The replies from devs are just sad… “no exciting news yet” and that was over 1 year ago!
In 3 years i haven’t gotten a single exciting new from anet

It’s a little disheartening, but I guess I understand why people still think changing config settings for an X11 driver that isn’t used has an effect (look at the “GraphicsDriver” setting. Cider uses a quartz-based driver, not X11.)

It would be more helpful if they’d turn on the memory debug overlay so they could see when the client was almost of VM address space, and switch zones to free up some space and delay the inevitable crash.

Since 64-bit cider isn’t likely to drop from the sky anytime soon, If we could have a setting to use generic weapon and backpack textures like the current armour setting, that would help a lot for OOM crashes in areas with a large number of players.

Also, if you considered bootcamp but thought you needed an optical drive or couldn’t get it to install with a USB stick, el Cap let’s you install straight from an ISO by creating a partition to hold the installer files. Might be worth your time to check it out.

You sure that’s a feature from el captain or something the new models of mbp are able to do?
my late 2011 mbp 15" never showed me that option through the bootcamp app. Although this would be beautiful if works for all models (my os x still yosemite)

Ok, will try that when I go back in. I don’t know if I could stand the lowest character model though. It is so ugly

the character model is for the other characters, not yours. The second last option decides how many toons will show in your screen. The last option will decide the quality of these other toons, choosing low on this one will make it load the armor for most of the players that show on your screen.

Changing rendering from subsample to native will give u better graphics overall

I don’t know if this will help anyone but I was just able to do MAW without crashing and I have been playing about in the old areas without crashing for the past few days. These are my settings on an iMac, i7.

The graphics are pretty ugly compared to what it can do but I can live with them if if means I can play my Mac and not crash. The FPS is high because there are not too many players around. I also have names turned off.

You might wanna try to tune down the character model limit to lowest; character model quality to low; turn shadows off; set render to native.

That way you won’t have to be stuck with subsample and it might increase ur fps, stop crashes at big events

the client is a box full of surprises.
on saturday the fps was so unbearable that i simply couldn’t play, the problem wasn’t the fps i see when i press f11. The game, regardless of the map, people or the fps, would constantly freeze every second, i couldn’t even see a complete action take place (walking for example).

On sunday, the game didn’t patch, i didn’t do anything to my mac either, but the game somehow fixed the freezing fps. But to my surprise i was getting crashing errors after a few hours (got 2 and the 2nd was right after the end of meta VB which made me lose the reward slow clap).

Either way i bet tomorrow the game will somehow start freezing again…

Ive got the exact same thing. Started happening after hot and it happens whenever i hold the forward key for too long. Moving to other directions doesnt help. Its pretty bad cuz it interferes with actions such as opening chests and finishing, basically interactions in general, not to mention the occasional suicides

I play on a mbp late 2011 15" 1gb vram 4gb ram os x yosemite

My game doesnt crash. But after 2 minutes into the game, the fps gets terribly sluggish, even though all the settings are on the lowest, no shadows at all and subsample rendering
Even though it doesn’t crash the game the fps is unbeareable and i give up playing

Well I guess they had to do something for all the out of memory bugs they had and, from what I have read, they cannot apply the same fix to the Mac product. Maybe, once they bed down the troubles for the Win crowd, they can work on the Mac to see what they can do. I live in hope.

I expect we are not a big part of their client base, but we would be the most grateful.

3 years of a growing mac community and still ignored, with their misleading ad the number of unsatisfied costumers will only grow.

So we just have to accept that we wasted at least 110 bucks on a broken product with misleading ad that said they have a mac client and mac support?

Well after 3 years ive only seen lies and disappointment. If you check the forum section where they post patch notes you will find 0 updates on the client. NOTHING!

As day go by i just regret more and more supporting this company and feel very upset at the fact that if in 3 years they haven’t given us any attention, i highly doubt that they will now…
The 64-bit windows only client was the last drop…. GOD!

FPS, for me, isn’t even the issue.

I can’t even open the freaking game -_-; I would deal with crashes or low FPS if I could even OPEN it.

I know that fps isn’t the only issue with the game, but trust me, the game opens here, but the amount of fps stuttering i get is unplayable.

What’s the point of a client that opens but a game that doesn’t work as intended?

We need to pressure them on social medias as this topic is clearly on their black list

Getting a refund is not an option. I like the game, i’ve waited 3 years for it to become playable, bought the expansion, even if they refund only the expansion they will delete my whole account.

It also doesn’t change the fact that their ad is misleading and will bring more mac users who will soon also turn into salty people because they got mislead by ANet.
It’s a cicle that can only be broken by actually fixing this crap

You know that Ragfell meant getting a refund on the purchase of Windows and then just playing GW2 in crossover instead right? (if your comment wasn’t directed at theirs then my apologies)

Yesterday the game was unplayable, today after i download a quick patch they released nov 5th the game somehow managed to stabalize the fps even in the HoT maps.

Now I’m not sure if the fps was stable because i let my laptop a whole day resting, or they actually did something about it.
It’s hard to figure out when no mac fixes are mentioned in the dev release notes… I sure hope they did fix it though, still a long way to go for it to run as it’s supposed to

Getting a refund is not an option. I like the game, i’ve waited 3 years for it to become playable, bought the expansion, even if they refund only the expansion they will delete my whole account.

It also doesn’t change the fact that their ad is misleading and will bring more mac users who will soon also turn into salty people because they got mislead by ANet.
It’s a cicle that can only be broken by actually fixing this crap

I regret purchasing the game itself
if you think the game is bad now, it’s because you weren’t one of the many mac users who got mislead by ANet thinking their game runs on mac.
3 years mac client is in beta. For 3 years i was unable to play the game properly. 3 years waiting for a client tweak
Now with the release of HoT the client doesn’t even start, and if you manage to make the client run, the HoT maps are so glitchy you can’t even play

If you try to reach out ANet for support, goodluck! Us mac users, mislead customers, are being ignored for years.

Personally I bought the mac version when it was released. I never would have expected that 3 years later it would still be in beta and crash more than on the initial release.

Beta releases are supposed to be temporary. I expected better.

On the same boat as you. Ive waited for this client to be fixed for longer than i have actually played the game. And as always, since the clients birth we are treated as a joke

Still crashes constantly when in HoT content.

I dont even try playing anymore to avoid disappointment

They release a patch today tweaking the 64 bit client beta released yesterday while our 3 year old beta is rotting and it stinks so bad

Since they are selling a product that doesn’t work, a lawsuit would be the most appropriate action.

Couldn’t agree more. Especially after the new record for silent treatment they r giving us.
I feel like mac users aren’t welcome at all in this game. First they announce mac support, once they have ur money, they will invest into the windows community and completely ignore us like an unwanted guest

Bootcamp is the only viable solution to playing gw2 on mac. Doing so it was the only time i was able to enjoy the game. Sadly my optical drive died and now im limited to os x client

Just download the Windows OS then? I had one of the later iMac’s, so I never had an optical drive to begin with.

Wish things were that simple.
Mbp with optical drivers wont boot through usb nor will it accept external dvd-r (even the apple one)
Im literally stuck with os x, either way that’s no solution for many users in the same situation as mine or similar

Apparently asking for a 64bit Mac client and telling them their lack of Mac support is disappointing in the 64bit beta client thread is qualified of being “off topic” and will result in an infraction (be careful).

Sorry if you feel I am always complaining but I wouldn’t be if the game didn’t crash every 20 minutes…

They dont want us, the community they try their best to Ignore, showing our discontent in a topic for their beloved windows base. They get 2 clients, while we can’t even get a working wrapper!
I mean, 2 weeks with this thread in the front page and yet they can’t be bothered to help us. That’s anet supporting mac for you

Guys, I come bearing news. Well, not new-news, but helpful-old-news. (Also, I should lay off Doctor Who, because I start to make about as much sense as a Time Lord.)

I got in touch with the GW2 support team, and this is the response I got: “After reviewing your System’s Profile, I see that your system does not fully meet the requirements to run Guild Wars 2 as intended. Specifically, your computer’s processor and RAM do not meet the minimum requirements to run Guild Wars 2, which could be contributing to the issues you are experiencing. I do have some troubleshooting steps for you to try however, which can help resolve the issue. I would like you to stop any applications that may be automatically starting in the background when you turn on your computer.”

(TL;DR: Delete StartUp items and see if the problem is resolved. It may or may not work.)

Not sure if you knew about this, but it did help me.

Now, I realize that this does not fix the issue, that only postpones it, but it is a temporary solution worth trying while we try to get the support team actually interested in us. After all, some gaming is better than no gaming, isn’kitten (Also, could somebody else also write to them about this problem? They might take us more seriously if there are more people actually complaining, rather than sitting here on the forum and stewing.)

I think some1 already got that reply from the support team, which is pretty lame as i don’t have start up items and the game still runs slow af
