I never had any problems with crashing till I came back into the game this year. I recently streamed like over 4+ hours and I didn’t crash but I think HoT is majorly kittening over the Mac users. I’ve crashed way to many times today and it really frustrates me.

lucky you.
Most of the mac users (including myself) are unable to enjoy the game using our computer’s potential. Being forced to lower all the settings and setting the max frame rate to 30 (most of the times only those steps aren’t enough).

Yesterday i spent over 2 hours making changes to my game config file with the hopes to fix its terrible FPS, i was successful, but unfortunately after a week or so the game is back to its terrible perfomance. You don’t know how frustating it is to play GW 2 with “ok” perfomance, just to wake up the next day and the game is completely broken.

It’s been 3 years and we are sick and tired of being ignored and/or fed lies. We deserve ANet’s attention! It’s unacceptable for us to support a company just to be ignored by it!

I don’t care how much money or manpower it’s required for a mac client to be created. 3 years ago we were promised something and literally NO IMPROVEMENTS WERE MADE EVER SINCE!
3 years is more than enough to optimize a game! 3 years of beta is a JOKE!
ANet worked on an expansion without even making their mac client work properly. Now with the expansion here all mac users are suffering because of your lack of commitment!

I still have many IRL friends that play this game and all of them are windows users, enjoying HoT. I didn’t even consider buying the expansion for 2 reasons: dolar is freaking high in my country, but mainly it’s because in 3 years, the only time i was able to click “auto detect” on my graphic settings and enjoy it at 40+ fps while doing WvW is when i was able to bootcamp (unfortunately i’m unable to now).

Still mac users shouldn’t be forced to bootcamp to be able to play, when we bought it especially because it was advertised a mac client on its way (3 years ago)

Why am I not impressed by ANet’s statement: I’ve heard the exact same thing through out the 3 years I have waited for the official release of the MAC client. Superficial statements with 0 information about our issue, nothing that can really settle our nerves down.

I’m glad now, after 3 years, the mac community finally is starting to show more of its disappointment with the company’s lack of responsibility.

Hello,

One of the reasons we don’t tend to respond to a lot of Mac specific posts is because an overwhelming majority of them are shared with Windows users

Thanks!

That’s exactly what i tought it would happen when you guys decided to merge mac forum with the windows one!
You guys wanted to burry our complains and our bug reports under the windows posts, which are a lot!

IT’S HARD EVEN FOR ME TO FIND MAC ASSISTANCE IN THIS FORUM BECAUSE NOW I HAVE TO FILTER THE POSTS!

PLEASE ANET DO US A FAVOR: EITHER ADMIT THAT YOU DO NOT CARE FOR US OR SHOW US SOME ACTUAL SUPPORT!

We are paying customers, that love the game, and would like to continue to do so without having to find the fixes ourselves to play a game we payed you to bring us

I support this thread… Mac client’s a joke. ANET please have a working Mac client like Blizzard did for their titles… and not a port that constantly crashing.

Honest I do not think will be native client at all or any time near. Cost a lot of money and resource to do this for small amount of customer. Blizzard have a lot more money to do thing like this. They should try to do some thing to make cider wrap work better like it did before last year when problem get worse. Like I say Nvidia own the company that make it so might be a big problem of some kind. If they can not improve should just be honest about this and close it down instead of continue to sell to new Mac customer.

I disagree. They announced a MAC CLIENT being developed on september 2012. It’s been over 3 years and we didn’t even get fixes to the client’s birth bugs.

I was misguided into buying this game, promised something i still haven’t gotten and I don’t see improvements anytime soon.

The game is realeasing its expansion and I will not buy it considering I already fell for their scam once.

Comparing blizzard is more than fair enough, we can even throw Valve into this considering they have a mac client for Dota2 and other games as well.

IF YOU ANNOUNCE A MAC GAME, DELIVER IT, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE MOST OF MAC USERS BOUGHT THIS GAME! THEY INVESTED IN YOUR GAME, IN YOUR COMPANY AND YOU JUST DUMP US THIS SORRY EXCUSE FOR A CLIENT.

The game was working “fine” for me till yesterday. I was able to play even with itunes opened and google chrome, without affecting my fps that much. Today the game just turned plain out unplayable (again). I honestly forgot how many times i gave GW2 a break because of the amount of stress it causes not being able to play something YOU PAID FOR. Only to return every other year and find that the CLIENT HASN’T CHANGED ONE BIT!

It’s really upsetting that 3 years have passed and still we have this excuse for a client, that never gets any fixes.

I still face the exact same problems i did when i bought the game.
Honestly im sick and tired of how the mac community is treated. We are ignored to the point they merged the mac support forum with the windows one, making it impossible for us to be heard (not that there was any active mod on the mac support forum).

I simply can not buy the expansion knowing for 3 years the vanilla game hasn’t worked properly.

I refuse myself to throw any more money at ANet when they completely ignore us paying customers!

Mac Client stopped working for good.

Man after buying gw2 ONLY because they announced that they were working on a mac client, 3 years ago and not seeing 1 single progress (it still has the stupid mac beta stamp on it) I lost all my hope.

I quit the game probably 3 times because it’s hopeless, and what’s worse is that my mbp has no chance of bootcamping what so ever (cd-room doesn’t work and parallels/usb booting is not viable).

I really like the game and know a lot of friends that play it, but it’s just sad that i cant enjoy WvW without having terrible fps spikes. For example, I have to set my framerate limit to 30 or else i have fps spikes all over the place (sometimes even with the 30 fps limit set i still get those spikes).

Anyways i feel cheated on by arenanet, I made many appeals on the forum, and so did all the users, just to be ignored and even get a warning for being upset over it.

But anyways it’s hopeless. The game is realeasing its expansion and I really don’t want to buy it if they have 0 respect for me and my fellow mac users. I didn’t buy a MBP for gaming, that’s on me. But announcing a game client for mac and just abandoning it makes me feel as cheated on as politicians that we elect (especially when you pay for the game)

i hate it when a quick fix works for everyone but me

i still get huge lag spikes. completely unplayable during pvp, even arenas.
and i have my graphic set to best perfomance with fps limited to 30 (if i set to unlimited the spikes get even worse) even tried lowering the resolution, improves fps but the spikes are helpless

I understand the appeal…. but no thanks. As players wouldn’t be able to play across the two platforms, and would instead be separated into two large groups with no contact, I’m totally against any potential split on this level.

my point wasn’t to make gw2 exclusive for consoles.
That would make no sense since i said in the post that it would be nice for them to make it free for users that already own the game, just giving them a different platform to play on instead of pc, not dividing its community.

I did mention i want to play again with my guildmates again, what you said just sounds as if you didn’t read what I said.

Just because I don’t support your idea doesn’t mean I didn’t read what you posted.
You don’t seem to understand they would never allow it to be cross platform like you envision. Having PC gamers, who play using a keyboard and mouse, share the same servers with console gamers is just…. not going to happen. Perhaps it would not be an issue if this game were strictly PvE, but its not. Players in one platform can not be given any special advantage or disadvantage over another player in WvW/PvP just because they’re platform has a better/easier control system.

You have to know that one would be better than the other.

You do realize that pc gamers play mmo’s with controlers all the time, its not something that was invented yesterday, it gives no advantage to any1, its a way of playing.
I am not arguing with you because you don’t like my idea i’m arguing with you because what you said about my points really did not make sense with what i wrote, you are talking about dividing community and players feeling cheated because some play with controlers?
That’s not the point nor will it be an issue; I don’t know if you are aware but Anet will give players the option to play with their xboxone/ps4 controlers so that basically thrashes your argument. I see 0 advantage playing on a controler, if you feel cheated you can as easily plug a controler to your pc, config your keybinds and live happily ever after

Most of the MMOs that get ported from PC to console are designed from the start to be able to support controllers, or are at least on the way to it. There’s also the problem it would likely slow down updates, because of having to port each update. And with the alternate method of updates, which is updating them separately from each other, makes it so the communities can not interact with each other.

are you saying that’s what they do with their mac and windows clients?

I did not mention the mac client at all, as creating a client for a different OS is hugely different to porting to a console.

I thought it would be a similar process they go through when they release updates for both os’ as one client’s bug is not the same for the other. These kind of issues will always happen when you have a game running on different platforms.
Anyways, that didn’t seem as an issue to them when they announced the mac client, right?

I honestly don’t want to see this game on other platforms simply because of the console specific issues. This game as a PC only game already sees a significant amount of problems that, in some cases, take a long time to fix. If we were to bring in PS4 and XBOne into the mix then there is just going to be more issues to go through. Also, this isn’t even factoring things like the legal paperwork side of thing for releases on consoles and that ANet would probably have to work in events to catch console players up like what was done with China release.

Well, there are other mmo’s doing it, I’m just pointing out an awesome idea that I personally would like to see out there because I know I’m not the only one in the current situation I am right now.

GW2 is constantly coming up with new features and some times changing old mechanics. Making the game for consoles would be a small step for them in a few years, considering soon enough you will be using a controler to play GW2 (if you prefer).

The way i see it is: i like consoles; i like mmo’s; i like gw2; gw2 will be compatible with controlers; other mmo’s are trying this method

So yeah, i’m not saying anything impossible buddy, They might even be working on it and we don’t even know it. I just want to be able to play gw2 again, and if i can’t on my laptop with my full price digital copy, maybe i could on a machine made for gaming?

It would be cool to be able to play GW2 on a ps4/Xbox. Both are able to use keyboards, anet would only have to figure out how to get a mouse to work…

Yes! and I see that soon GW2 will be able to keybind to console controles, which is a step towards my suggestion

BUT!!!!!
I do own an Xbox One and recently i found out that there’s an mmorpg that was for pc and now is on xbox.

I haven’t played gw2 in a very long time because it’s impossible to enjoy on mac. But I would very much enjoy playing it once again with my guildmates on my xbox one.

To wrap it all up… please consider gw2 for consoles free for those who already bought the game, ESPECIALLY MAC USERS.

Thank you

Am I the only one that sees the irony in the fact you want the game ported to Xbox One but most of your post is about playing on Mac?

I had to introduce my idea

A Macbook? That’s the laptop right?

I know the game runs really well on the main imac platforms – but I’d expect is worthless on a laptop lol

Yep, it is a laptop, the same laptop that runned the game perfectly with bootcamp, pointing that the problem is with the client.

I purchased GW2 as soon as i heard that they were making a MAC client. I was thrilled!
My friends were telling me so much about it but I wasn’t able to play it until then.
So when i finally purchased the game, only because it had a “mac version under development” i found that the game was as good as i expected, i got to say it got me addicted for some time, but one little thing that kept killing the fun of the game was the FPS on macbook pros.
It was impossible to play a pvp match, a world boss and lets not even mention WvW, which was one of the features that caught my eye when I started searching about GW2.

Anyways, my point is:
I have a mac.
I only bought the game because you guys made an advertisement about a mac client.
It’s been around 3 years and I haven’t seen the Beta sticker out of the mac client.
I can’t enjoy the game on my mac, which runs the game smooth as butter on bootcamp, on the same mac (my dvd-r doesn’t read anything anymore so i can’t do a bootcamp and i am not bothered to mess around my mac’s coding to try to make bootcamp work, and neither will i pay for parallels just for GW2) so the problem isn’t my laptop, considering other mac users suffer the same problems.

BUT!!!!!
I do own an Xbox One and recently i found out that there’s an mmorpg that was for pc and now is on xbox.

I haven’t played gw2 in a very long time because it’s impossible to enjoy on mac. But I would very much enjoy playing it once again with my guildmates on my xbox one.

Fans go crazy when playing gw2 on mac

Yes.
Happens to most if not all of us.
Just add it to the ever growing list of problems mac users have with gw2 and maybe hopefuly next year we will get a reply like “we are working on it” but never actually see that “work in progress” get completed and released as a patch.

I have this game since they announced the “mac client” which is actually a kittenty wrapper that never gets tweaked. I still have the exact same problems i did when started playing this junk at day 1, they never got fixed and when they did it was thanks to my own free time messing around with the game files and google research.
But at the end of the day it’s a huge waste of time considering any update/patch they release will break any tweak you make to the game.

People say a game is only as good as it’s customer support.. in my humble experience this game is under mediocre

possible tweak on fps?

WesleySnipes.3917

I, like many mac users that play gw2, have grown tired of playing with the poorest settings possible, and still have terrible fps issues.

Today, on another desperate try to tweak somehow my gw2 fps, I decided trying everything I ever tried before + some tips Lacey gave me on my ticket.

Basically we have to open the config file that can be found as follow:
finder > go > hold left alt key > library > application support > guild wars 2

once you opened the file, change the following:
“VertexShaderHash” and “PixelShaderHash” from 300 to 275
and “MTD3D” from 4 to 1

once you’ve done that, save it and close it.

on the same guild wars 2 folder click on: p_drive > user > Application Data > Guild wars 2 > and delete your local.dat file

Now you will have to go back to the Library folder and find the following file and DELETE IT:
Preferences > com.transgaming.guildwars2.plist

Once you have done all that, clean your trash folder and do a SMC reset followed by a VRAM reset.

I tried that, and it almost brought tears to my eyes…. i have never seen my laptop run gw2 so smoothly on OSX.

Let me know if it works for any of you

When i bought this game the advertisement said that gw2 was now coming to mac with a new mac client, obviously, beta, but when you release a full client of the game for windows, and you keep the mac client on beta for 2 years… with ZERO SUPPORT OVER THAT COURSE OF 2 YEARS… you start to lose a few screws and your patience will no longer tolerate this joke.

NO! i was not even able to run the game on the worst settings possible and reach 30 fps…

Shame on you ANet.

Welcome Lacey, i’ve been waiting for this day for more than a year, im glad it finally has come.

Now to business… GW2 is unplayable on mac (at least those that are not 16gb ram and 2gb vram). I for example have to low down EVERYTHING (even the rendering) and i still freeze like crazy, not to count that the fps strugles to stay at 20.

so basically… the main issue with the client is the unbereable lag regardless how crap u put the graphics. It’s been like that for 2 years and i’m 100% sure that i’m not the only one that has been waiting for this for that long

I’ve experienced FPS lag even though i had lowest settings with an avarage of 30fps.
Anyways, searching on google i found a tip.

Opening the Guild Wars 2 folder found in the Application Support folder, you will find a file called “config”.

Make a copy of that file in case the tweaking doesn’t work, and put it in a different folder.

Open config and find the line “MTD3D” and set it to 1

Save the file and reopen the game.

It worked for me and the game runs great now, even on spvp and wvw.
I hope it works for most of you fellow mac users

You have a slightly better MBP than me (I have the 6750M with 512mb) and the only other difference is that I’m running Mountain Lion. I have no stutter problems anymore though, once I set MTD3D to 0 mine ran really smoothly. Try doing an SMC reset?

I have tried doing smc reset and still lags ._.

I’m running GW2 on a mid 2011 macbook pro 15, on auto-detect on and with MTD3D on value 0 and the memory value set to 1024 (tried 512, didnt work). i still have low fps when playing, sometimes when im on a small map it still has a bit of fps lag which is VERY noticeable when walking around, my character will do small “skip” every 1 second and it is very irritating. i really want to know if this is a client problem or is just the fact that macbooks are useless for gaming, even with above recommendation specs.

in any case my mac specs are:
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
