What?! (Confessor's End Spoilers)

WindFall.1479

I’m almost 5 months late, but I just completed the episode and I can’t help but express my disappointment about how cheap Demmi’s death was. The writers just killed off the second most recognizable member of The Order of Whispers (the only other being Tybalt), and for what? To help leverage Valette as a redeemable character? Why would I care about Valette now? To shoehorn some tragic family theme where every Beetlestone dies? That’s unoriginal.

We don’t even get a single intermission to catch up with Demmi after not seeing her for 4 years. Not even a voiceless dialogue window. Just her referencing Tybalt throughout Confessor’s End just to say “Hey! Remember Tybalt? I bet you do! He helped bring Demmi to the Order of Whispers! By the way Demmi’s going to die too.”

Why couldn’t she appear in Episode 1 at Bloodstone Fen? Was she too busy doing nothing about Scarlet and Mordremoth to investigate Caudecus’ whereabouts? If we had time to get to know her again I bet I wouldn’t feel so robbed from her death. But we don’t, and now we have this.

I just… man this is lame.

Could something be done with the Flesh Wurm?

Yeah it has the highest base damage compared to any other minion in the game, but my God the attack speed and projectile speed is so slow not even quickness can save it.

I can’t speak about its secondary skill and its overall usefulness in PvP and WvW, although I have to imagine that there are better options out there like Spectral Walk.

Making Legendary Weapons Truly Legendary

Legendaries in gw2 does not make you better than others, its only a weapon skin.

Oh that’s nice, since I wasn’t even talking about that. I’m saying those weapon skills do exactly the same function with exactly the same damage output, how the avatars visually perform those skills would look different, going beyond projectile visuals and footstep effects.

But you know… reading is hard. I understand.

Making Legendary Weapons Truly Legendary

If I’m going to spend thousands of gold and hundreds of hours crafting or buying materials for a legendary weapon, I would like it to do more than shooting out unicorns or making your feet poop out the night sky.

I wish legendary weapons would go one step further and change our weapon skills. They would have the same exact mechanical function as their normal weapon counterparts but does them in an entirely different manner.

Let’s say that a legendary rifle is something akin to the portal gun and an engineer uses it. The skills (and their artwork on the HUD) would be replaced like this:

  1. Phase Beam: Fire a quick laser round that pierces targets.
  2. Stasis Ball: Fire a stasis ball that immobilizes your target.
  3. Crackling Glass: Create a mirror that shatters in front of you, causing more damage the closer you are to foes.
  4. Little Nuke: Fire an atomic bomb that detonates and launches your foe as you fall backward and cures immobilized, crippled, and chilled.
  5. Personal Black Hole: Create a black hole that damages nearby targets and enter inside it, reappearing at your target.

Hopefully the particle effects won’t be more distracting than the original weapon skills.

Chances are that something like this is woefully impractical, but I was never impressed with the effects of current legendary weapons. I mean, I’m okay with that since that frees my conscience to spend resources on gems, but I always hoped those weapons did more.

But then I would just have to resurrect you

I think the worst thing about if you were to be stuck in gw2 would be getting rubbed back to life by a bunch of people….

Even worse, a ranger could order their bear to sit on your face to rez you.

There are people much more versed in equipment builds than I am so I’m skipping to #6 on the PvE side of things..

This is important: keep more than two pets in mind and be ready and willing to swap them out in the pet window on the fly, just like utility skills or traits.

In an area with a lot of conditions and you need an additional tank? You are absolutely correct about putting that brown bear onto the field. Need to top off might stacks for your party? Throw in that jungle stalker. I go with lashtail devourer for reliable range damage, and fern hound for extra healing, although I can see people arguing for all the other canines for crowd control. Either way, keep a canine in mind for knockdown or defiance stack removal.

You are right in picking a bird for one of the highest damage outputs but I don’t like them because they do that swiftness buff every time they can, which wastes time.

Anyways, that’s what I wanted to say about pets.

You know what? If mesmers can make muthaeffin lasers come out of a greatsword I want to see a thief with a staff go all kungfu on someone’s rear.

Hmm… Even something like that could be problematic. Forcing a character to reposition without accounting for height in every node could result in some hilarious clipping/stuck issues.

I like the idea though, even if it’s for a miniscule amount of immersion.

That would not have prevented the conversation because people don’t care what Anet has to say in the first place. They have convinced themselves there is grind. Somehow they think obtuse pedantry over definitions is a compelling argument for Anet to throw out their approach to the game and just ‘take the grind out of it’.

Arguing over pedantics. That’s what internet forums are for aren’t they? It’s like a group of guys arguing over which identical twin sister is hotter.

I feel like this entire conversation would have been avoided if the dev team said it’s a different (and arguably better, but I’m not even going near that conversation) type of grind instead of saying there’s absolutely no grind at all. Although I admit it doesn’t have the same marketing “oomph” as opposed to saying there’s no grind.

In any case, there’s a general law about using absolutes: don’t use them.

Now that I think about it, WvW map completion was the thing that got me invested in WvW for a little while. I spent two weeks trying to help out as much as I could: bringing supply from our team’s base, pulling in enemies into our zerg, and staying in the back to make sure no gets left behind. I had fun.

But I definitely won’t miss staring at an enemy keep for hours on end, waiting for a team to capture it so I can stealth in and get that last POI and vista.

Please end this macro instruments.

Pets attacking when set to "avoid combat"

WindFall.1479

This started to happen since the first patch on March 16th. Even if you set a pet to “avoid combat,” targeting an enemy and attacking it will cause your pet to attack as well. I tried switching pets in/out of combat and stowed it, but it didn’t fix the issue. I’ve seen it working every now and then, but it’s been buggy more often than it’s not.

Where!? Where is this justice!? There’s isn’t anyone near me in Gendarran Fields!

“Turret built.” Where is the turret? There isn’t even an engineer around me!

Who’s chanting mesmer mantras near the mystic forge? Is Miyani also changing professions for Heart of Thorns?

Is this a bug in the game? Am I the bug? Oh god…

Pets with more support capabilities

in Ranger

Posted by: WindFall.1479

WindFall.1479

I’ve been running the jungle stalker and the fern hound for might and healing respectively, and they’ve been pretty helpful for dungeon running. I was hoping that, in the future, there will be pets with F2 skills that can do more than applying boons or removing conditions.

For example, I would like to see a pet that can create a small protective bubble like the ones guardians have. They don’t even have to reflect projectiles, just destroy them. If it has to be balanced like having the bubble duration be 3 seconds and having the recharge time to be 60 seconds, then I would be okay with that.

Also, I was thinking about if it’s possible to add an additional function to the F1 command. Let’s say that if you target an ally and press F1, your pet will follow that ally and attack anything that ally is attacking or being attacked by. The default distance range between yourself and the pet should stay the same, and moving too far away should force your pet to move back to you. I see how it’ll get complicated when the pet is in the “guard” state rather than the “avoid combat” state, as well as activating offensive F2 skills to a target your pet isn’t currently targeting. But hey, it’s just a thought.

Summon creature animation if duration expires

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: WindFall.1479

WindFall.1479

When a summoned creature expires from skill duration instead of something killing them beforehand, some of their despawn animations look… lame.

Summoned thieves vanishing into thin air? That’s cool. Illusions shattering? That’s also cool.

Druid spirits and Guardian weapons that just blink out of existence? Not so cool. Ranger spirits that seemingly trip over an invisible rock and dying? Even less cool. Fire elementals that seemingly trip over an invisible floating rock and dying? Well now that’s just silly.

I’d imagine that nature spirits would have that same vanish animation like the thieves but with brambles instead of smoke, and fire elementals would fly back up out of view.

Don’t get me wrong here. I understand that taking a task like this may take an unreasonable amount of time and resources, and the end product may not mean or help much, but it was just something that’s on my mind and I wanted to share it.

Lets talk about the new Gem conversion [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: WindFall.1479

WindFall.1479

Add an option buy gems in 100 gem increments instead of making 400 gems the smallest denomination possible. Problem solved.

THERE! Thank you, Errant Venture — that’s a solid suggestion with a reasonable tone. Thank you.

Regardless of the increments (though I also wish for smaller increments if this new system is here to stay), please keep in mind the pricing of current, new, and on-sale items. The system you have right now is inconvenient with anything priced at 500 gems, 900 gems, etc. This goes especially for items priced anything in between those 100 gem intervals (125 gems, 275 gems).

Hey everyone, whatever your opinion is on this new currency exchange, hyperbole doesn’t help. It wastes everyone’s time trying to read them and filter out the BS.

We’ll look into making it slightly smaller compared to adult cats but it still won’t be tiny compared to other minis.

All mini’s are built to roughly a common size relative to each other. They are intended to be toys or doll-like and not real creatures with real proportions (there aren’t really hundreds of miniature Logan Thackeray’s being born and sold into slavery. )

On a side note, imagining the same slavery notion to speedo Lord Faren is making me very uncomfortable right now. o.o

I’m loving the recent (minor) update for adding a status indicator to the thief’s sword/dagger combo skill. It really helps out with gauging the time window to activate larcenous strike. Hopefully there can be a similar implementation with the ranger’s sword #2 skill, if it’s of little trouble to the dev team.

After the recent patch, The Prestige doesn’t work as a blast finisher anymore. That’s the only blast finisher we have, please fix it!

I can also confirm this to be true. There used to be a charge bar when the skill is activated but has since been removed, which may be a reason why it’s bugged. At one point it used to be 2 blast finishers; one when you activate and the other when you come out of it without using any other skill.

Also, I’m pretty sure others have said this, but the illusion in sword #3 isn’t connecting the hit and cripple. I have only seen it work once since playing the mesmer yesterday for half an hour.

Edit: If the torch skill change was intentional, the tooltip for it is now inaccurate.

Edit2: I see now that, when you come out of stealth from using The Prestige, the AoE burning effect still applies at the end of the three second delay.

The New AC Ex IS doable with lvl ~35s

Even if he does succeed, is he going to represent the entire argument about playing dungeons in the recommended level range?

This is something that everyone in the lvl 35 range can do. Instead of waiting for the OP alone to provide evidence while bashing him throughout the thread, how about we make some anecdotal evidence of our own? Whatever what side you are on, this is an argument that cannot be won by one member and his/her party.

Because anecdotal evidence can be made up or adjusted based on sub-conscious or conscious bias.

The video won’t really do much in my opinion on what AC dungeon should be or how hard it is, but it will at least back up his original claim ‘AC can be done by an experienced group of level 35 players’.

Although he didn’t specify what path, so I hope he is planning on doing all paths.

I agree with you about what anecdotal evidence can be, but that’s why anecdotes should be played in numbers. I’m not going to expect the majority of people with video capture equipment to use it for this one thread. This is why I’m asking everyone to try it, including myself, and talk about the experiences afterwards. That kind of evidence is meant to be used not only with a grain of salt, but to also find patterns should any of them arise.

Those who disagree with OP should do the same to support their position. Right now, the number of personal attacks and armchair theories is going nowhere.

As for your original question OP, if you’re looking at the lfg website, search for parties that specifically say “everyone/anyone welcome,” especially in CoF. Don’t be discouraged by people that kick you out. Leave them to their own world and mindset.

Vote-Kicking Abuse

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: WindFall.1479

WindFall.1479

I’ve started seeing some player reports about parties kicking the odd man out for immoral reasons. The first one I saw was in Lion’s Arch on the Sea of Sorrows server. There was someone who claimed that he was kicked from a fractal right before the Jade Maw because the other 4 party members decided to use the remaining party slot as a buy-in for the daily and chest. Even if it was true, I chalked it off as an isolated incident, but then this reddit thread was created 10 hours ago.

A number of comments have told stories about being kicked as a scapegoat. The top comment interested me because of the fact that you only need two to kick someone out of the party. For the player that was kicked, he can’t track down the party members that kicked him because there’s no way to get player names after leaving a recent party. From what I understand, the only ways to do so is to friend every member to keep on record as a safety measure, or hope that you memorized/written down those names.

It may be too early to say concretely, but it’s starting to seem like the vote-kick system can be abused too easily. I don’t know if this is something that can be solved by players alone or with dev intervention, but I believe this is something that needs to be said.

It was a bit of a bummer when I realized that I would have to leave the equipment first to detonate my turrets (with the trait Accelerant-Packed Turrets) or mines when I’m about to be attacked. I was hoping to set and quickly activate that kind of a trap before they get the first strike. This goes especially in WvWvW scenarios, when thieves like to shadowstep straight to me.

It’s just a small convenience thing, but would be nice little addition to patch in.
