If this fixes the problem for multiple people, then please let me know which CDN worked for you and what your current ISP (not IP) and Location (just city/country) is. Thanks!
-assetsrv 93.188.135.37:80 worked.
ISP: Comcast
Location: Chicago area, IL.
Edit: Seriously, is this a Comcast thing? Some other sites don’t work for me, and I only really notice when GW2 won’t patch (then again, I guess I don’t browse as much when I can actually get in the game).
(edited by Xapheus.1235)
Thanks Squarelycirle.6287 for following up on this thread! Adding “-assetsrv 93.188.135.37:80” worked!
Curious: Is everyone that’s having this problem on Comcast?
I get “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…” for every single patch within the last month. It works if I try later in the night, but never works during “primetime” so far.
I’m not exactly sure what’s happening, but there is some small initial load and then the actual patch happens afterwards. Once it gets past the initial part, the actual patch downloads at a good rate. For me, the initial part always went slow and goes in bursts like Squarelycircle.6287 described in the previous post. It’s only within the last month that it gets this error that stops me from playing the game until I’m lucky enough to have it come through (again, only late at night).
If you did it last year, you’ll probably find the boss will feel a lot easier this year with the solid aoe circles, no dome, and ascended gear. I was kind of annoyed it wasn’t retroactive too, but it thankfully only took me four attempts this year.

I’m pretty sure I missed it the first time too, but I’ve gotten it every time since then.
By the way, I missed the reward in the final story instance the first day because the “return to Lion’s Arch” green thing was not at the exit (when the reward is given). I only noticed the second time I did it.
One guy in our guild is so good at the TP that he bought commander titles for like seven people now. He doesn’t seem banned yet.
With no Support replies, I’m going to step down from pressing this with my final thoughts:
In the user agreement you agreed that you do not have any right for gem-refund’s and it is to the sole discretion of arenanet to do so or (in this case) not.
I think this is the best reason I am going to get. I fully understood the user agreement when it said the purchases are not really mine, that Anet has full reign, etc. I understand that Anet can decide pretty much anything they want when it comes to the items on their servers.
They could also decide to maintain rapport with loyal customers. I am not sure how many loyal customers they soured from this. Maybe it’s not enough to matter, but I’m certainly one of them, and I’m certain there are other, less vocal ones who will also spend much less $$$ because of it. It’s Anet’s choice on how to handle these things.
And it’s my choice to not pay more $$$ for gems, since my trust in support is completely diminished by this lack of response. It’s my choice to add a caveat when I tell people to buy GW2 to not really trust the gem store, that Anet has changed my items. It’s my choice to tell my guild with hundreds about how unsupportive “Support” has been. I’ve already done that, but I was hoping for a good ending.
In fact, I would have purchased a particular item last week, but having had this experience last month, I could not be sure the item would be viable or as advertised, and so I did not make the additional purchase.
Perhaps the seemingly cut-and-paste/automatic responses sent out from support could be examined, because the ‘sorry, we can’t help you and that’s just the way it is’ replies don’t leave the best taste in the mouth of consumers. Just my opinion, of course.
I’m right there with you. Exactly what I want to say. The support responses are trash. They only tell you the “what”. If there is a disagreement between customer (a.k.a. the people paying Anet’s salaries) and Anet, a good “why” response would go a long way.
Personally, I cannot see the gain by denying these requests. At least in my case, I only want gems back. The $$$ are already Anet’s, and continue to be Anet’s. But by denying me a measly $10 worth of gems for this, I wonder how many $$$ of loss you’ll incur. My future purchases, of course. Any reputation loss from the people I’ve already talked to and will talk to. It might not be that much when the criticism comes from somebody who praises most all other aspects of the game. Still, I don’t know; it’s just not logical how this played out. I’m only good at dealing with “rational” parties, but I overestimated Anet in this case.

Ok to make it simple for you.
4 days ago, Gaile let you know they are re-examining the situation.
3 days ago support got back to you and let you know their point of view didn’t change.
Since then you haven’t had a different reply so it seems that that is the answer after they re-examined it.I allready gave you my personal view and it seems that support agrees with me. In the user agreement you agreed that you do not have any right for gem-refund’s and it is to the sole discretion of arenanet to do so or (in this case) not.
Bottom line is that there is no different place to ask this. I know we have different views of what is fair or not in this matter, but I do feel sorry. The only thing left for you to do is to make a decision for yourself if you want to support this company in the future after this negative experience..
My reply did not change because I asked “Why,” and that still has not been addressed.
Your view was based on me not reading correctly, which is incorrect, as I’ve proven. If this is how support agrees with you, then they are also incorrect. I’m hoping to see the real reason after I get home today.
I love this game and want to continue supporting it, but it needs to go both ways.
Trying to get gems back or even a mere explanation has gotten absolutely nowhere with support, so far:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Support-Policy-question-Gem-refund
I’m hoping I’m not completely let down by support and I get some reason, or else my days of putting USD in the gem store are clearly over.
Am I asking in the wrong place? I figured somebody would be able to shed light on whatever policy is causing me not to be able to get a refund here. This forum is about support policies. Generally, what sort of situations would warrant a refund from gem purchases, if any? Or should we have no reasonable expectation to our items not being altered?
I would try support, but I already explicitly asked them why, and they only reiterated they weren’t giving me a refund without any justification at all. I think I’m capable of seeing reason; I’ll gladly accept not getting a refund if there is some good policy behind it. All I would like is some sort of response beyond “we’re not refunding you.” Of course, if there isn’t a good reason, then I suppose it would make more sense to return my gems…
(edited by Xapheus.1235)
Hi Gaile. I just received an updated response that only reiterated that my request couldn’t be fulfilled, still with absolutely no explanation as to why. Would you please try to help me see the rationale behind the decision? I am having a difficult time understanding. Why would I ever use the gem store again if my purchases can just be replaced without warning?
Hiya,
See it like this. I bought a package of snicker’s. I didn’t read the package right and accidentally bought a box of snicker’s mini (not sure if these are sold across the world, but basically smaller versions of snickers). The amount of Snickers in the box is roughly the same so should I get a refund?? It was me not reading clearly.
The store isn’t responsable if you don’t read the package clearly.
A more accurate analogy is this: I bought snickers and they actually were the snickers I bought. I’m happy with my purchase. But then the store came into my house, took the snickers from my pantry, and replaced them with mini snickers.
Emphasis mine from the release notes:
The Super Explosive Finisher is now available in the Gem Store. The Super Explosive Finisher will change your PvP finisher into a super explosion for one hour.
Certainly not a case of me reading the package incorrectly.
(edited by Xapheus.1235)
Hi, I sent and received a response from support regarding trying to get a refund for the Super Explosive Finishers. I bought 10 of them thinking it would be good for 10 hours, which was true when I bought them. But the items have been changed so that they are just five stomps each.
Support basically told me that they were sorry they “could not fulfill you request in this situation” with no explanation other than gem refunds are rare. Since this forum is asking about support policies, can I have any explanation as to why I wouldn’t be able to get one in this situation?
I was 99% sure I would be able to at least get my gems back since the items I bought were changed like that, but now I’m really afraid to buy anything else.
Edit:
If you want an arenanet official to review their decision I would advise you to edit your post and add your 12 digit ticket number.

You made, according to your manifesto, a game for anyone to play. So regardless of skill people understandably want to get their achievements done.
This patch is inclusive of everyone. They even have two sets of achievements to reflect this: Queen’s Jubilee VS Queen’s Gauntlet. I think it’s a fallacy to think that everything should be for everyone “regardless of skill.” Guild Wars games have always had the goal of being skill-based. People with higher skill should reap better rewards in skill-based games. The Queen’s Gauntlet is for people who really understand traits, their class, and some deeper mechanics of the game. To the others, there is the Queen’s Jubilee set of achievements.
“Achievements” should not merely be participation ribbons and I’m glad they have a whole category in this patch that requires a bit more out of the players.
They really should have something. I bought these with the description that they each last for an hour, not just five times. I stomp more than five times an hour. This is less than I paid for.
…
Both of these options are not ideal. I do not think Anet intended the dedicated research route. Can you expect each guild to independently do the legwork for all bounties if somebody else already made a guide? Even if you do, how do you even know who to look for? Does it really even make sense to look for your bounties before you know that they are bounties (i.e., before starting the mission)?…Actually that’s what the guild I’m on does for the bounty, we gather everyone on mumble, then each person goes to a different area and start looking for the bounty there, once we have them (or most) located, we divide into 2 or 3 groups (depending on the bounty tier) and kick it off, each group gets assigned one target, whoever had eyes on that target switches to the group that got it, and calls off the waypoint nearest to where he is. If there’s anyone with the commander icon available, then he/show groups with the person following and activates the icon, so that everyone can easily see where to go.
I understand; that’s how my guild initially did the bounties. It can be effective (in fact, it is a perfectly valid way of doing the bounties as they are today), but I feel having to do that rather than just looking for your assigned bounties does not make sense, per this part of my last post you quoted:
…
[H]ow do you even know who to look for? Does it really even make sense to look for your bounties before you know that they are bounties (i.e., before starting the mission)?…
EDIT: Also, the “legwork” method I’m referring to isn’t the same thing you are talking about. You’re talking about taking a known list of bounty targets with a known set of maps they can be in (via a guide). I’m saying, without using a guide at all, could your guild do the bounty?
(edited by Xapheus.1235)
In and of themselves, the missions don’t seem too bad. My guild has only done bounty and trek, though. The real problem is the time limit. Why do we only get fifteen minutes to hunt two bounties? This necessitates either dedicated researchers in your guild to figure everything out beforehand or an online guide in order to have any chance of finishing on time.
Both of these options are not ideal. I do not think Anet intended the dedicated research route. Can you expect each guild to independently do the legwork for all bounties if somebody else already made a guide? Even if you do, how do you even know who to look for? That leaves guide as the only feasible way. We already knew this; that’s why we have this topic. I think it’s a problem. If the time limit were removed, which I’d like to see, then guilds would have the time to actually just use the in-game hints to find the specific bounties they’ve been assigned.
It is a bit disappointing to hear that guild puzzle has a time limit.
Level 80:
Mesmer
I was going to make a new topic, but I guess this one will do: Does anybody know if, say, my reward level is 19, that if I do fractal level 20, will it count against the 10-19 daily?
EDIT: Ran level 20, got the 20-29 daily. Ran 10 after and didn’t get a daily chest. Answered my own question.
(edited by Xapheus.1235)
Whatever.
They’re obviously going to get raised if you follow the interviews, and it doesn’t matter to me. I honestly don’t care since I’m all about content.
It seems like nobody remembers that GW2 was going to have an infinite level cap with diminishing power as you leveled. In essence, that is very likely how it will be.
So I heard you liked nostalgia.
(edited by Xapheus.1235)
I like the idea, but there should be a cap on how many you can save up. (Maybe up to three). The point of dailies existing is to incentivize regular logging-in, and that contributes to a more active server. So, in my opinion, a compromise between rewarding regular logging-in and having a tolerance for some missed days would be ideal.
Sound quality fix worked for me. Instead of max, just set it to one below max. Never heard the annoying sound again.
Apparently Henge of Denravi is a shell of its former self.
This is true. I was loyal to HoD until a week or so ago. Leaving was the best decision I made on this game. The zones at my new home actually have people and WvW isn’t depressing.
We’re aware of the problem and are working on an active fix. Very sorry about this, hopefully it will be fixed soon.
Great to hear this is being addressed! I did Fractals for the first time last night and this was the main issue. We were able to do volcanic fractal with four people (and one guy was level 23!), but Mossman felt impossible. I feel like I understand that the point is you don’t want to give the ability to repair / death run until three fractals are beaten sequentially, but reconnecting and putting you right back into the fractal would solve this, similar to how GW1 puts you back in the same instance as your party.
Anyway, please pass along to the team that I think this dungeon is otherwise pretty great.
But being hunted by players seems too personal to me, this is why I cannot do PvP or WvW.
In WvW, you are just an anonymous “Invader” or “Defender” to your enemy. Definitely isn’t personal there.
Even in sPvP, it’s not like I personally have anything against the people I kill, especially since it seems like the sPvP servers shuffle people around so that there aren’t “enemies” or “allies”…just a bunch of people PvPing together. The same person you killed will help you kill others in the next match. The tournament game might be different, but my point here is most PvP isn’t personal. Even in the cases where it is personal, it usually isn’t “bad”.
I didn’t read the 30 pages of this (sorry), and people are posting too quickly for this to even be seen, but remember how infusions worked in GW1? By “more powerful”, it might just be against enemies in this particular zone, just like the infused gear in GW1 was good/necessary against Mursaat and Spectral Agony. To get to the harder part of the new dungeon, you’ll need particular infusions. I doubt the new gear will be a filter when LFG for other dungeons or make you any better in WvW. It’s just something to do. Some of the audience likes the gear grind (if this amounts to that), but I’m assuming that the rest of us won’t see negative effects from this. ANet knows what they are doing…
I just got on the forum to post a friend “Notes” feature suggestion, but I found this thread requesting it anyway. I meet lots of cool people on this game like I did in GW1, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who is not the best with names at first, especially when people play multiple characters and I don’t remember the account name.
A 64 character note field for each friend would be great.
While the middle of the day Sunday might be the highest concurrency, this is only under typical circumstances. Fans of the game will be motivated to get on at different times to be a part of these events, but only if they are able. My point is, not to aim for when most people are already on, but for times when most people can get on.
That said, looking forward to this event! Sadly will have to miss the kickoff on Friday, but that’s at least more fortunate than some other fans get.
I agree with this sort of tool. I could not form a group for any dungeon that I wanted earlier tonight. A dungeon party tool is almost necessary for low pop servers like mine.
Additionally, make dungeons similar to spvp servers, where players from different worlds can play in the same dungeon.
I’m pretty sure the dungeons are already cross-world, considering I’ve grouped with friends on other worlds before. But unless you know people on other servers, that really isn’t too useful right now. The point is, the framework is there.
Just say “LFG MK, Any Level, type /join <yourname>”. You’ll get five people quickly.
Isn’t it only during the mad king battle? I think the zooming is normal for me otherwise.
1. Human Mesmer, 0% Speed boost. Took about two hours.
2. Sylvari Elementalist. 10% (?) Speed boost. Took a while (0.5-1 hr) somehow even though I just did it on the mesmer. Speed boost messed with my muscle memory.
The fact that there is no title is my only complaint about the clock tower. I wouldn’t want one for multiple wins because grinding is grinding. But, based on the butthurt in the forums, completing it at least once certainly seems to be an achievement worth a title!
Happens all the time now. Devs verified the issue in a similar topic:
Back when I started the game, I had heard there were “jumping puzzles” in the game. I thought that just meant vistas for quite a long time. When somebody led me to a real jumping puzzle, I was very pleasantly surprised! They’re one of my favorite features.
More on topic, I’m a mesmer and I’ve never gotten tipped. It’s nice when your friend is a mesmer too and you can help one another in case the other messes up.
Same happened to my group. Running back to the sniper tree and then forward again would respawn that last battle..
