Also, keep in mind (because i ran into this issue doing the same thing) that guild banks can’t hold any account-bound items. So make sure of that before you spend all that time/money getting your vault ;]
I think it needs to be 1sec cd because skills like hundred blades, pistol whip, etc will proc multiple evades with just one dodge roll. Happens quite often where you’ll see ‘Evade’ pop up several times on a roll. Skills like those aren’t really mindless spam, they’re just skills. Would be too OP if each one of those evades proc’d an ‘on evade’ trait.
If you do a dance/emote, toggle your back item off then on again to get it to show during the action. ;] kneeling with wings is very cool looking.
Go to the ‘Outfits’ section on the drop down box and uncheck the box in the little armor icon thing on the right.
yeah the dungeon rewards are exotics.
lol. the perma stealth trap thief would work pretty well. Take the condi immob, knockdown one, probably the +1 trap. Take trapper runes as well. Seen a few videos, it’s hilarious
As far as #1, you can try binding a key to Show/Stow weapon under Controls to cancel actions.
I find human characters on screen fit the agile game play of thief better imo. Kind of like how I can’t do jumping puzzles on a charr for the life of me, even though I’m very good at them on a human lol. Weird how that works
You’ve listed several PvP games that you’re used to so I’d try some of that in GW2. The open world PvE doesn’t get frustratingly difficult really but at level 9, there’s not really much challenge. It’s the starter zone after all… The open world is more about adventure type stuff. The more challenging stuff is usually in dungeons, fractals, meta events and stuff like that.
Yes, please, I don’t know what to do with them anymore.
Jeez, that pervy POV lol.
This is really cool. It makes me happy you guys and I’m sure others are doing this. Hopefully the new players return the kindness. Cheers to all!
Buy any recipes you can from the armorsmith npc and once you’ve done that, you might just have to recraft stuff you’ve already discovered. I had to do that on leatherworker.
And if you have any crafting boosters, use them. I didn’t for the longest time because I didn’t think much of them but they really do make a big difference
my best guess is that zerk will function better than it does now with the new specialization since you’ll have a lot more access to things like dodge rolling, condi removal, etc. Kind of hard to tell until HoT drops and things get going but I think for the time being, you don’t need to worry about changing it. As far as PvE specifically goes, we’re all kind of in the dark about exactly how we’ll be challenged so it’s possible other sets will be better. For me, i’m just going to stick with what I got at the moment until it releases, which is Zerk/Assassin mix so very glassy as well. If things get too rough, then I’ll look into tweaking gear.
Yeah i heard about this mysterious man they hired. Supposedly he’s like one of the best in the business for that sort of thing. I’m not expecting it to be complete garbage or anything but yeah, I’m guessing that the 2nd and 3rd ones will be a lot better than the first.
daredevil is a real word and was long before the comic book hero. Evel Knievel was a daredevil. It wasn’t named after the marvel hero
yeah not a whole lot of jungle theme going on these specs but my best guess, if they didn’t abandon the idea, is that it will be more involved in the personal story or masteries or something like. and the staff goes to where all weapons go such as weaponswap and such, the animation abyss!
Trait lines are what you use to really define your own personal play style choices. There’s no real sense in having all 3 available at the same time. You have the power/offensive one, the condi one, and the more defensive one. almost all the trait lines in the game have this method and the DD grandmasters are no different.
The real mechanic change is the extra endurance bar. I think a lot of people are underestimating just how good that can be by itself, let alone working alongside all the traits we have now that proc on evades/dodges.
I think it’s good you want to have all 3 available on the fly. It means they did a good job designing them for competing with each other as game play choices.
As far as missing out on additional F skills, I really don’t mind. I don’t really care where game play mechanics come from be it traits, F skills, utility types, added endurance cap, etc. As long as it offers decent build options and synergies between skills, I’m good. Sucks it took so long for thief but I’m glad it finally has.
I was indifferent when I first heard that dare devil was the likely name but it’s actually grown on me. Personally I don’t really care what any of the elite names are called. At the moment, there’s just so much emphasis on the names for marketing purposes for the reveals but after HoT is released and there’s no more reveals, it won’t really matter. It will just be another trait line name like all the others.
Deadly Arts is a pretty corny name I think, but nobody mentions it or cares just because it’s just the name of a trait line. Acrobatics is kind of silly as well but again, nobody cares about the name. Once the dust settles and everything is revealed and released, it’ll settle into being just another trait line. No sense getting all up in arms about a name.
Honestly though, if acro had never been nerfed, this new trait line would still be good and needed. Acro was never a strong line to begin with. FG was good and there were/are a few okay things but not much else. The problem is that a lot of the new stuff was never in acro to begin with, so saying they’re selling it back to us as an elite is short-sighted. This new line is what SHOULD have been acro from the get go, so I’m not sure where these ideas were years ago when they began developing Acro, but I’m glad they’re coming now.
Over the past few months, there have been tons of trait rework threads with a lot of great ideas to fix acro. Problem is, the overhaul in June was never about rework. It was about trimming fat and merging traits to fit new system which kind of showed how weak acro really was. yeeeesss stuff was nerfed which did substantial damage to many builds but if it hadn’t been, acro would still be weak. actually having a line coming that not only has a lot of the great ideas we’ve all suggested to address problems not even with acro nerfs but general build diversity issues and class issues is pretty cool.
On top of all that, I feel we’re finally the true kings of evasive combat which is what I always considered one of the intended selling points of thief as a class. An un-nerfed acro, the entire old acro line back, nothing we’ve EVER had really made me feel like that until now.

Naw, unfortunately they have to be crafted. You’ll need the recipe’s as well but they’re on the TP for pretty cheap. The good thing though is that you only have to be 400 level in your craft discipline to make them which is pretty quick to get to if you have a decent amount of mats saved or a small bit of $ to buy. Crafting boosters work wonders as well. Never thought much of them until I used one at it really makes a difference. Can probably get to 400 in an hour or so if you got enough mats or $ for them. Only thing that gets pricey is the Charged Ambrite. You can craft those but it takes forever because of the quartz stuff so I just ended up buying the Charged Ambrite on TP.
GL! Imo it’s a good set to have on hand for playing around with hybrid class builds. Pretty fun.
nothing. it is just that rare. it looks like, stuff that will make me say kittens.
I chose blacklight for my nightmare court styled Mesmer. I’m happy with this choice.
=o I chose blacklight as well! kudos, mate! I’m loving it
Thief with the right setup and depending what exactly you’re being mobile for. SB-5 instablink, 180 withdraw and RFI, Shadowstep, x4 dodge rolls with Sigil of Agility and 10sec swiftness get’s me to other side of the world.
yeah i am also really looking forward to the animations as well. It’s going to be weird seeing how I pretty much have memorized what each skill looks like that we have now. Going to be cool seeing my thief do new stuff visually. I’m hoping it’s reminiscent of Gambit lol
=’| my friend!
Yeah looks fun. Also seems to be quite a few traits in the datamined stuff that were ideas i’ve seen during many of the ‘fix acro’ threads so that’s cool. I honestly don’t mind it being an ‘acro 2.0’ sorta line so long as it means we can have some staying power again. Kind of sad about physical skills though. That’s why thief as very unsatisfying to play in PvE sometimes. A lot of the skills are more suited towards PvP game types. Inturrupts and stuff are fine for a lot of content but it’s annoying adding to defiance destacks (or breaker bar stuff soon to come) and just settling into weapon skill chains. Was really hoping for more from utilities.
lol the ol’ GS/SB set. Pray tell, what on earth is your other weapon set?
Staff theif??? Really? Seems a missed opportunity. Thief has no range
Thief has plenty of range. F1 is range. S/x2 and D/P3 is range. Infiltrator’s Signet is range. Everyone uses those. Thief also evades and blinds while attacking in melee.
Except none of those are ranged combat. Those are all ways thief blinks into melee combat. Pistols and Shortbow are our only ones but neither are really viable. Pistols is close but they lost any/all AoE capabilities during the trait overhaul outside of a Fire Rune or something desperate like that. Pistols is still okay as single target but single target isn’t as effective in PvE as it might be in PvP or something. Bow is okay but the only real damage skill 2 is slow as hell at full range and pointless trying to use it as anything other than another melee range blast.
yeah that’s intended. there’s several skill points like that. ask in LFG for a nice thief to come lend a hand. ;]
yeah, the staff was an interesting choice for us thieving kittens. Not saying i’m not interested in staff, but as far as melee staff goes (ranger is supposed to be more magic i hear?), it seems odd 2 classes would get the same play style. Then again it could be completely different than the Rev but since shiro, it seems there’s too many gameplay similarities between thief and rev. Personally, i didn’t care which weapon we got. I’m more interested in the added utility skills but rifle did make a bit more sense. And no, pistol isn’t really viable and neither is the shortbow for great damage. It’s good damage but everyone just takes it for the blasts and blink.
Naw nothing you can really do, sorry =/ as long as JQ remains top dog in WvW population, it’s unlikely he’ll be able to transfer anytime soon. Best bet would probably have both of you transfer to a high pop but not full server together. The new status based on WvW sucks but it’s necessary. Otherwise, everyone would join the #1 WvW server just for the win and would give no chance to the other servers.
Mine seems to be working both into and out of the combo field. Is it just a sometimes thing then?
Those skills are just counters to all dazes and the like. You could use x/P-4, bv, or you could be a completely different classes with a daze and it will counter all the same to those skills you listed. It’s balance, mate. You want to remove daze from steal? Don’t take the trait. Simple as that. Asking to remove it completely is just absurd, especially from someone who admittedly doesn’t even play thief regularly.
never played dwarf fortress but from the sounds of it, i can get all the mats needed to finally craft an ascended weapon, hit the button, and it spits out an exotic instead? If that’s the case, that sounds like an awful experience. In gw2, crafting isn’t really about making stuff to sell, but instead making stuff for yourself which is especially useful if you tend to experiment a lot with different builds, get cool skins, etc. If the entire idea of crafting in gw2 started out completely differently when the game was made, then maybe…but implementing it into gw2 as it currently is would be crushing to people.
you have to hit up a trading post merchant. They’re in the big cities. Not sure what your race is but when you’re in your home city, it will be an icon on the map that looks like an old balance scale. it’s the icon in the bottom right of this image.
While ‘Reveal’ is becoming easier to access for multiple classes, at this time it’s still is a specific skill or trait they have to take in order to do so. I don’t think a ton of players are spec’ing for Reveal abilities at the moment and to be reasonably honest, I think it’s only fair to give some form of reveal skills to other classes.
The NEW reveal skills are a bit worrying. The dragonhunter one is a little insane. I really hope they don’t keep adding reveal effects rolled into big damage skills like that for a lot of classes. More subtle ones like the Shiro one I can deal with.
I think most the thief community feels a little beat up and tired at the moment and it doesn’t help they’re saving our elite spec for the end and we still don’t even have a confirmed weapon yet. If indeed our spec doesn’t help us out at all, or they feel the need to not help us out in our other trait lines, it’s going to be a sad.
This shows the typical player numbers for the Golem Mark II, back in 2013
man, look at that! people actually playing and not mindlessly spamming 1 on the box. I miss the good ol’ days. Nice find
as far as power damage builds, the general rule of thumb is Power > Precision > Ferocity. From that, if you wanted to spec into a survival attribute like vitality or toughness, you’d be better off shorting yourself on ferocity. I think I’ve seen the table you’re referring to and people mentioned that the only time adding more precision would be beneficial is if you had an insane amount of power (like an unobtainable amount i think).
Of course it also depends on what sort of build you have going on. A reflect build usually calls for higher precision. Also, if you have any sigils or traits revolving around critical hits that you want to make a build around, precision might be more beneficial. Last build I messed around on had a trait that heals for 15% of my crit damage so I focused more on precision until I was able to get 90%-100% crit chance and heal every time I attacked pretty much.
Plus they might have had a smaller group in mind. The world boss timers available really do make it clockwork for players to join these events in huge numbers. If you’ve ever been in a Shatterer event with like 30 people or less, it does become a bit more difficult to complete in time and the healing crystal mechanics actually work noticeably. I do think it would be cool to revamp some of the other world bosses to require a bit more coordination like they did with Teq. Perhaps someday after HoT dust settles.
The easiest way is going to be help from the SA traits. Take the “Deception skills recharge quicker” from the 1st tier and “Regain init while in stealth” from the last tier.
My rotation usually starts off smoke screen + cluster bomb. Your problem with it not giving stealth sometimes could be 2 things. You really need to make sure you aim the center of the green ground effect circle right over the smoke screen line. Being off just a little bit won’t register. Sucks having the combo field so narrow and awkward. The other reason could possibly be you’re pressing 2 for the next cluster bomb a tad too early and exploding the shot before it hits the ground. Wait until you see the big AoE Stealth combo text before pressing 2 again. You will be able to get 6 shots off.
If you want, you can use Blinding Powder in sync with the last clusterbomb shot. Not only does it add AoE stealth on it’s own but it is also a blast finisher so you’ll get even more. After that, start moving as a party and if you need prolonged stealth still, stop and group up for a SR. By the time SR itself starts running out, Smoke screen should be about ready to go again and you’ll have full init to go another 6 shots into it. That should be enough time to get through whatever you need too.
If you reaaaally need more, use x/P-5 and blast that smoke field with clusterbomb. You’ll be able to do it 3 times.
2 things to watch out for though of course. Make sure you’re not near an enemy when you’re using clusterbomb because the damage will reveal you. Also, x/P-5 fires a 900 range shot that does damage so make sure you don’t have any enemies targeted or auto-targeting on otherwise it, too, will reveal you.
Hope it helps! Just practices around in LA until you get the hang of it. It’s really easy once you do and with the traits and D/P, you won’t even need SR for perma aoe stealth ;] GL!
It all kind of depends on class and play style. Ranger is smack dab in the middle of the base HP pools and armor classes so I’d say focus more on toughness.
The basic idea is that more hp counters condi and large damage spikes (which you should be evading anyway) and toughness protects more against the sustained damage. Also, the more you focus on toughness, it keeps your hp pool lower and increases healing effectiveness on you. With 20k HP and a 5k heal skill, you gain 1/4 of your HP, while 10k HP and a 5k heal skill will heal 1/2 your HP.
Dare devil’s an alright name. It could be much, much worse. Once the dust settles after expansion release, nobody’s going to be paying attention to the names anyway. It will be just another trait line.
It does make me wonder though if the line is indeed called ‘Dare Devil’, what the hell weapon we’re getting? The name sort of implies a certain play style associated with it that doesn’t seem like it will coincide with either rifle or staff =/ I guess the other specialization names don’t really do that with their weapons either but it does make you wonder lol
Well you don’t have to craft up to ascended for Berserker gear. You can craft exotic zerk gear as well. I think you only need to level it to 400 which is actually pretty easy if you have a decent collection of mats and maybe some spending $. A crafting xp booster works wonders so use it if you ever decide to get started on crafting disciplines.
There’s no real reason not to get it from the Temple of Grenth (make sure you get it from that temple from keeper jonez. It’s the only one with berserker stat armor).
It’s the exact same as any other berserker exotic armor but yeah, it can’t be salvaged. That doesn’t really matter at all. If for some reason you decide you want to get rid of the armor, you can toss the pieces into the mystic forge.
Only thing is that the temples don’t have any berserker stat trinkets or weapons available so you’ll have to acquire those elsewhere.
Plus the champ trains would be upset
Honestly it sounds waaaaay too easy compared to what it takes for a legendary item already. Also, it’s been stated by ANet that legendary armor won’t be a thing (but with the backpiece now, who knows anymore). I do like the idea of specific places in the world to visit though. Reminds me of something GW1 had to get a Moa mini and was very fun adventure.
You know, I thought about this and was like "Huh, that’d be a pretty spot-on spec for something called “Dare Devil”. =O
Probably was the Rev though but I gotta say I’d be intrigued if they made up for it as a really really good trait line but I doubt that would ever happen lol.
yeah i doubt there was any nerfs to ecto rates. In fact, the new gambler in LA seems be there to deal with excess ectos and help keep price stable where they want it to be. Sometimes the dice rolls suck, man =/ I’ve been there. Once salvaged 18 rares and got 1 ecto. Then there’s times where I’ll get 8 ectos for 3 rares. I’d say don’t waste your BLK on rares, though.
Eh, i personally don’t mind the name though I can already see confusing DD for D/D and what not. Much like berserker for warrior. That is a little short-sighted. I just hope the line is good at the very least.
I think they’ve responded on this idea actually. Kinda said they didn’t want to promote playing as a numbers game (more than it already is i guess). You’ll probably be stuck with 3rd party stuff, just use at your own risk of course.
