Bravo to you for excellent suggestions! WvW is in serious need of tlc for those who have been at it for months. You are correct, it is stale, needs new maps, needs new ‘living’ objectives to re-energize the players. I genuinely hope that Devon reads this list of suggestions and pushes them up the chain of command.

I am afraid that the great EB vs Borderlands divide on SBI will never be resolved. As this match has shown us, server response when a call for assistance goes out can mean the difference between taking a keep and losing it. Last night I fought you again. I joined the fight in BP BL, as your fire ants amassed the southern island. Our commanders were great, and our people were responsive. But you guys… kudos. Again, you numbers are SO strong, and they only complement your strategy. We took note of what you were doing. SBI is very siege-oriented, and I hope our commanders on BP learn from that. You walked your siege towards our tower, and as soon as we got one piece of siege up, you tore it down. At one point you ripped down our wall, and came into our tower, up the stairs and moved away from the champion to build another AC. We were told to take that AC out, and as I ran toward it, I must have been hit by Fear 6-7 times! And it was an incredibly short run from where I was standing!!

I was in that fight. The tactics were being called in TS by two TB commanders. It was extraordinary. If you were an SBI pugger and you were not on TS, shame on you for not taking the opportunity to learn. These boys were tight. I also found it interesting that you commented on our numbers for that fight, because by gods we were doing the same for you! Sooo much red…lol. We need more fights like this one.

Yulo is correct, in that SBI has a handful of good commanders who call tactics on TS. Unfortunately, we also have far many more pugs who do not avail themselves of said TS. I think this makes us look – on any given day – like we are tactical maestros and a bunch of chickens with our heads cut off.

I think the real problem with them doing it is that they are trying to do it when they have released new content. For our server I know it’s a major factor in determining WvW participation. When people have finished the content there will be probably 200+ more people playing on our WvW maps. So if we get balanced to a lower count while the numbers are down we’ll end up in matchups that we roll when everyone is playing again. It’s a fickle beast, best of luck making it work out right.

I understand your point, but I think this gets balanced by the times that the fair weather players show up when your server is green. It’s always feast or famine on a PvE-predominant server.

So for stormbuff isle is the wvw scene actually good? I’d imagine all the organized guilds and commanders are on the tier 1 servers, but is the lower tier servers still fun to play on?

The short answer: Yes!
The longer answer: Hellzya, come on over and join the mayhem!

Mag is up in a tier now where more ZvZ action is the norm. When they were whipping SBI’s butts in T4 the players still preferred to go small group action. You are not going to find a tier where no zerg is the rule, I think. But you will most likely find the style of play you prefer by moving down tiers, where you can take a havoc and go or solo roam to cap camps.

I am late to respond, but thank you to the kind folks at SoS for the event. It was a heck of a lot of fun, and you were all very welcoming to folks like myself from SBI and our WvW match buddies CD. Kudos to the organizers and all participants!

Except for a brief SoS BL breakout event last night, I mostly quartermastered on SBI bl. Good reset, everyone. Enough activity going on with SoS and CD to keep us hopping. Also, that underwater battle at center island was hella fun and good for the aquatic daily.

And dear little CD thief who kept so many of us chasing him around and groaning whenever and wherever he showed up: mad props, buddy. Seriously, you were a colossal pest but we were hugely impressed with your mastery of the class.

Thanks. Don’t know who this is specifically but I will make a note of the guild and pass the info along. I honestly fail to see the benefit in a match like ours to ‘spy’ by invading another server’s TS. Seriously, what is gained by it? Doofus.

We were just chatting about them/him/borg/it on the SBI forums. No one really runs with them, per se, they just sort of show up somewhere they have determined (?) needs their bags and provide zombie-like meat shields for the rest of us who happen to be in the same place. No one I have spoken to so far has had any communication with it/borg/them/him, so we aren’t really sure what strategy they deploy…if shambling over to an area and unleashing the pets and arrows is a strategy.

Good fights last night on CD BL for Hills. You guys were most adamant about getting that dang keep back, I gotta say. You never let off the pressure and it made for some great tussles at the gates. Eventually I just could not get back in at any door without being locked down and badged-out.

Good grief, Areann, if this is how you communicate in your third language then you must be a force to be reckoned with in your native tongue.

All very well said, and mygods let’s hope the next patch sees some of this implemented for it is looooong past due.

The timer works like this: When you deploy a siege site, if you don’t put supply into it for 2 minutes, it will despawn. Every time you put supply in, it will get a new timer of 5 minutes. Once siege is fully built, it has the 30 minute timer. That timer resets every time someone uses the weapon.

30 minutes? That’s it?

This patch seems to have put a lot of focus on making defending even harder than it has been, is that deliberate? Sure, arrow carts hurt more, but if you get there and they’ve all despawned, ouch.

The 30 minute timer is actually longer than it used to be. It also is visible now, which it did not used to be.

Siege timer is visible now? Oh thank you! As one of several Quartermasters who is tasked with running around refreshing siege, this makes me happy.

We’ve lost three Wv3 guilds since the SoS/SBI/CD match up began. Not huge numbers, but definitely some of the more experienced players and a couple commanders.

I’m sorry to hear that. Experienced Commander and player loss tends to create an immediate nasty overall loss in WvW player base. On the upside, it gives folks who are not usually Commanders a chance to step up and earn their chops.

for instance…in WoW, your skills basically do the same thing…swing your weapon in melee range(chop right)….hit another skill…swing your sword in a different animation(chop left)….hit another skill(overhead chop)….hit another skill(spin chop)

in this game its…..for instance on the greatsword…..autoattack is your chops, skill 2 is chopping on steroids, skill 3 is a mobile whirlwind, skill 4 is a throwing greatsword, skill 5 is a dash uppercut

so each skill does something different other than doing the same thing, just in a different direction

Let’s take guardian greatsword as an example:
1: chop, choppy, aoe chop (spam combo)
2: pbaoe ranged chop
3: jump and blind (no chopping)
4: holy symbol with buff and debuff (no chopping)
5: ranged chop and pull

2 out of 5 don’t chop.

Not to mention the mesmer greatsword doesn’t even chop at all.

Mesmer greatsword on auto attack is really more of an auger, don’t you think?

what do you like about queensdale?

I’m not sure. I thought it was because of the environment. The grass just seems a little greener, the sky a bit bluer. The perpetual overcast in Kessex Hills just saps the joy out of the zone for me. But I enjoy Lost Shore despite its drab color palette.

Then I thought it might be the pockets of serenity; the pond by Claypool, the Hunter’s Lodge in Queensforest, and Edna’s Orchid are great examples. But other zones have equally relaxing locales.

As mentioned by Marcus Greythorne, it could be the number and variety of events. From bandits raiding farms to trolls rampaging the countryside, there’s never a shortage of fun events in which to play. But, again, Queensdale hardly has the monopoly on Dynamic Events.

Ultimately, I think it’s the community. The traffic in Queensdale is never lacking. And I’m guessing that, more than anything, is the reason I enjoy it so much more than the others. That’s probably why I enjoy Lost Shore, too.

A large part of the reason, at least for those who’ve also played Guild Wars: Prophecies, may also be that Queensdale is the closest thing in GW2 to GW1’s pre-Searing Ascalon in terms of looks, feel and serenity, all of which was lost forever after the Searing.

^^ This exactly, to me. It shared, for my human ele, on the first day the same element of delightful discovery and beautiful terrain.

Also, players in Queensdale are unlike anywhere else: they continually call out active events in map chat. Seriously, continually. Very much a player helping player environment.
All in all, the area has a very GW1 Ascalon feel to it. I still try to get a few daily events done there once a week for these reasons.

I used to pay attention to completing dailies. Oddly enough around the time laurels were introduced and the daily structure changed I stopped making an effort. Now, dailies seem to happen to me during regular play, especially in WvW. So I will check the status I am at and finish them off if it’s no big effort and coincides with what I was going to do anyhow.

I can no longer find the OP where this suggestion first appeared, so I take no credit for the idea…even though it’s brilliant.

Give guild officers the ability to decommission siege that is built within towers and keeps that have been claimed by their guild.
At best, it’s a possible but immediate workaround for servers who are continually experiencing siege griefing (lots of us).
At worst, a server would have to wait for a guild officer to show up in WvW to decommission the array of uselessly placed weaponry. But even this would be an improvement on the current situation.

I think what Lyndis was implying is that SoS is suddenly inundated with trolls with massive amounts of siege and time who insist on using all the main keep’s supply and siege capping us on the entire map.

I for one, don’t think anyone on SBI or CD have anything to do with these trolls and I apologize right now if anyone accuses you without proof.

We’re attempting to deal with these individuals internally.

We’ve seen this on our server too. Honestly, I think the suggestion earlier about officers of the guild who have claimed the keep/tower should be able to destroy siege inside it would be a useful solution.

Be forewarned that asking this question in /map automatically identifies you as someone who someone who hasn’t been helping out with WvW, as anyone who actually has been in the zone for any length of time will have seen multiple “are there any mes in the JP” questions (and the answer to said questions) and/or mesmers advertising ports. Asking this question in /map is a bullseye for anyone who takes issue with those who ONLY care about the JP and refuse to help with WvW. If you want to avoid folks griefing you for asking such a question in /map, my advice is to participate in WvW for a bit. You’ll eventually get the answer to your question without even asking.

I usually don’t have a problem with someone asking if there is a mes in the JP, though it can get really frustrating to see it in /map when there’s a queue or when we’re on a major offensive/defensive. But so long as the person is in and out and done and doesn’t clutter /map, I won’t say anything.

I personally have more of a problem with the following…

-People who clutter up /map about the fact the JP is camped and demand that us WvWers come clear out the JP for them so they can get their badges (come help out with WvW…you’ll get badges galore!).

-Mesmers cluttering up /map fighting over which of them should have the esteemed honor of being the JP mesmer.

-Mesmers cluttering up /map demanding tips for portals.

-Lazy people who absolutely refuse to learn the JP. I had this conversation during off-hours when we dominated T8 and had control of all keeps.

Lazy Person: “Is there a mez in the JP??”
Me: “No, there isn’t, you’re going to have to run it yourself this morning”
Lazy Person: “No, and don’t tell me what to do, thank you. I’ll just wait!”
Me: “There’s no mes even running the puzzle ATM. You’re going to be waiting for who knows how long. We have control of all the keeps. Puzzle isn’t even camped. Perfect time to learn.”

Me: “O.o”

If you want the chest, learn how to be self-sufficient and learn the darn puzzle!

One suggestion is to allow the officers of the claiming guild to be able to destroy any placed seige in that structure. If only the officers can destroy, then it minimizes a “spy” getting in and destroying all properly placed seige.

^^ This. At the very least, it is a fix that is doable. Usually the siege saboteurs are not part of a guild who claims. At worst, we would have to wait for an officer of the claiming guild to come on the map (thinking Oceanic as opposed to NA here). But at least it goes toward ridding the keep of unwanted siege.
