After a much celebrated cleansing of siege on SoS’s Lowlands Keep due to server downtime, certain individuals are at it again building up a ton of siege in our keep – including multiple rams beneath our towers INSIDE our keep. Clearly this is intentional – we can only guess why he is doing it as he completely ignores everyone and continues to build

The siege sabotager has showed up on SBI and is at it in our lowland keeps now. Interesting ram placements, that’s for sure. Honestly, I don’t understand employing tactics like this in our tier. Doofus.

We are currently working on making rewards for play outside of killing and capping more rewarding, but it is complicated. Giving people WXP for doing things is a very high likelihood.

There are many players who spend their time, especially on reset night, holding/upgrading/sieging camps, towers, keeps and garrison. A reward of xp and silver on the successful tick if you are still inside and you have triggered the upgrade would be very nice indeed. I don’t know if that is even possible, but dang it would go a long way to recoup some of the silver that goes into Quartermastering.

Tactics against the zerg wiping ele bomb

in WvW

Posted by: Yohimbe.1876

Yohimbe.1876

We did this a lot in our early days in tier 3. Video below.

After having done it for weeks, I can confidently inform you that the tactic works—and it’s a lot of fun. But it’s largely only useful against headless zergs.

If a commander sees an elementalist churn bomb coming, it’s as easy as ‘CHARGE’. They go down like bowling pins. But without that one person telling everyone to do it, there’s not enough force to knock them all down. Without a commander, players just tend to stand there in a disorderly fashion waiting to receive a bomb (as shown in the video). 9 times out of 10 all you need to do is push.

For more videos on churn bomb, visit my channel on youtube. Almost every video preceeding Instant Replay #5 is an ele stack group

Nice coordination on those d/d eles with the melee group!

Yohimbe.1876

In my opinion as a Tier 1 player, they should make the following tweaks to WXP:

  • Scale down all current WXP values for taking camps, towers and keeps.
  • Scale up all current WXP values for defending camps, towers and keeps.
  • Have the capture and defend reward scale with the level of upgrade on the point (example, a 500 supply keep giving 200 WXP & a 1700 supply keep giving 500 WXP)
  • Add WXP rewards for a player who buys an upgrade for a point, and it completes.
  • Remove WXP from pure PvE content (Ice Wurm, Harpy, Overgrown Grub and Champion Spirit)
  • Have WXP scale with a players gear, aswell as time spent alive.

I almost agree with you.

  • scale down? no, there will always be the groups who log in to run and cap. Fair enough
  • but, deargods this. At the very least defending points should be comparable to capping. Right now there is absolutely no good incentive for players to remain and defend once the zerg moves on.
  • and a thousand times this, plus a small monetary reward to recompense the upgrader on completion. Upgrading anything is such a colossal money sink, and there are no benefits to the quartermasters who do not follow the zerg but stay behind and babysit upgrades.
  • why does smacking a harpy give more WxP than defending anything? Seriously, ANet, getcher heads outta yer butts.
  • not quite sure where you were going with this without more explanation, so I won’t chime in.

And to your list, might I add:

  • where are the ranks for defenders in this new system? Why is there one rank allotted to the cannon but absolutely nothing else regarding the defense of a tower or keep? Or how long it is held? Or upgraded?
  • where is the rank for yak babysitting? It is already a thankless job that very few people want to do when all the big benefits are in following the zerg. Give me my DolyMama rank title!

Commander chat suppression

in WvW

Oh, Habib, you’re so cute: Commanders telling pugs to “Join Squad on me” is about as effective as telling them to “Join us on TS” or “Please do not drop random siege”. 98% of the time it just. does. not. happen. Commanders using Squad chat exclusively is also a big not, because a good majority of their zerg are on /say, /map or /team. A Commander might be brilliant or crappy, but should not be chat suppressed.

Anthony: you’re sounding a little exasperated here, and I’m sure there’s alot on your plate — but hopefully you can understand the exasperation leaders of small guilds feel right now.

So I’d like to take an opportunity to provide you some background —

Guilds in GW1 — had alot of options when it came to accessing content. Alliances (which is apparently outside of your department.. but since alliances pertain to guilds shouldn’t it be?) was one of those options. It provided better co-ordination, and it did not matter how small each guild in that alliance was — we kept our own rules individually and were allowed to keep our individuality. There were strong bonds of trust, loyality, and friendships. Guild pride was an important thing. It boosted morale for one, and at times kept people playing content, even when that content slowed down. When some guilds from GW1 made the switchover to GW2 we had members at first. But there were a plethora of mechanics already put into place that slowly and surely hampered and ate away at those smaller guilds. The lack of alliances, the ability to represent multiple guilds, a lack of guild features, smaller restricted content access/party size, seperated servers, a lack of a working guesting feature — all were obstacles in many a guild’s way. Surely, I hope you can understand and empathize that this provided considerable challenges. Eventually many individuals became frustrated and moved on. Guild size, of what was once a delightful place, sadly grew dark. People ran off to large guilds, and stayed there, and the rest stopped playing. For lack of a better term — guilds seem to be in a reccessionary phase, just as bad as our real life economy.

Now correct me if I’m wrong, but if i’m understanding you: your position is that small guilds can now have access to some features, but that large guilds should have better access to features, even extra features/rewards — and small guilds cannot. That is certainly not a balanced approach. Your player base is simply not used to that concept. A guild, no matter how small, could accomplish anything they wanted to in GW1 — even if they did not have an alliance to assist them. After a great deal of time you gave us heroes so that 99.9% of content could almost be done solo (not saying it wasn’t quite a challenge but it was doable). Everything became free and fair access.

You have made a small step in the right direction with adding this new content for a smaller guild. So there is kudos for that. But this, sir, does not negate the problem. Guilds of our size still face the impossible dilema. To gain access beyond this gated content — we have to guild hop to a size of a guild that would allow us to do it. This means that being part of a guild is not anything to be prideful of or to maintain a strong bond. It has become that guilds are a means to an end. Merely existing for their ability to unlock that content. Members are merely numbers.

If my friends in larger guilds ask me to come along to a guild mission, I’m currently opting to say – no. Because there is nothing that I can contribute to my own personal guild that says — ‘’we did this together!".. ’’we accomplished something for us’’. I have a greater sense of pride and happiness when I walk into WVW (where I don’t have to join some other guild to do content or to help someone out!) In GW1 if you wanted to do something together as a larger unit — say oh.. Urgoz eg, everyone could still be in their own guilds and be rewarded equally. There was no fuss and no mess.. except for coordinating people. That sir, to me, was a spirit of fairness and equality. It didn’t matter if big 100 man guild could gain access to that content faster than a smaller alliance of 50 could — we could still get to that content and be representing our own guilds at the same time.

Guilds now, feel virtually worthless and a chore, and their only use is for wvw at it’s present state. As it stands now, we will not be doing this guild mission content, as it’s still beyond our reach. We will not compromise our stands to invite just any body for the sole sake of gaining numbers to accomplish it, nor will we demand our friends and old alliance members must be forced to represent us in order to achieve it. And our small guild is not ‘casual’. We spent over 7 years contributing to this franchise — and now, it sort of feels like we’re nothing more than a tiny town of Mom & Pop businesses that got obliterated by Wal Mart.

^ This. All extremely well said. As a small guild leader I can swear that you are not alone in this. I have had numerous discussions with other small guild leaders who echo the same or similar feelings.

Player Housing

in Suggestions

Posted by: Yohimbe.1876

Yohimbe.1876

When it comes to ‘housing’ I would rather see the Guild Halls before any personal housing.
- Give me the ability to build toward a tricked up GH with crafting area, personal and guild bankers, Trading Post npc, and asuran portal.
- Give me mini-missions that the guild members must do to earn these things and other perks for their GH, instead of the influence system, because GHs need to have a purpose for being in them.
- Give me Guild accomplishments/rewards/statuary/flags/emblems that we can display in our GH.
- Give me the ability to throw a real party in the GH for my members, complete with a feast, booze, fireworks, box o fun, keg brawl, etc that works toward a Guild Party Animal accomplishment.
I could go on, but mostly, just give me a Guild Hall before personal housing. And if it comes to personal housing, please NOT like LoTRo, where houses remained abandoned, design hooks were limited, and absolutely nothing was a draw to the housing area except your additional storage.

New style items: Right idea. Wrong direction.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Yohimbe.1876

Yohimbe.1876

Totally agree. For all that LOTRO lacks as an engaging game, it still does cosmetics better than pretty much anyone else out there. You have your actual armour set, which you can show if you want, but you also have a couple of cosmetic gear pages that you can toggle between. If you want more cosmetic sets to toggle between, you can buy them in the cash shop.. and I would wager that they’re one of the biggest money makers. In the cosmetic gear pages you can equip anything from regular armour to purely cosmetic clothing to use it’s appearance while your eqipped armour provides the buffs but remains hidden.

I love the pirate outfit in GW2 enough to have purchaed it.. but I doubt I’ll buy any other town clothing item again.

Thank you, I was just going to say the same thing. LoTRo’s method for costume equipping also meant that you could wear your pretty clothes but they always inherited the stats from your armor. And yes, for Turbine, it was a cash windfall. Trouble is, so far there is no Town Clothes in GW2 that I would even consider equipping in town, muchless as a skin to fight in. ANet really are missing the cash cow on this one.

So, 39 pages of concerns and one patch later….still nothing from ANet regarding small guilds. For what it’s worth, one week since F&F launch and my smallish guild with a handful of actives is at the half way point of unlocking the bounty missions. We started with an already unlocked A0W5, btw. After reading through so much of this thread, and the guilds who have given their feedback on the missions, I am not so sure that even when we unlock the missions that my little guild and its collection of unofficial Alliance guilds are going to want to do these missions.

It sounds like the timer is a huge issue, numbers are the name of the game, and griefing is rampant. Maybe they should have made the missions their own instances like dungeons, instead of out there in the big wide world.

shrug, and a big ol meh… I’ve lost interest.

People want solutions instead of all this QQ’s? Ok fine here’s one, coach sign me up, I am ready for the big game, ready to work in game development at any time.

Here’s the way I think it should have been done and still can be done. Put the bounties in the different tiers create new unlock bounty tiers that each divide the current 30,000 influence, so each bounty tier unlock is 10,000 influence. This way at least the middle to small guilds can do one guild mission in the next month.

Here’s the list and what it would look like in Art of War.

These new guild missions are beyond most smaller guilds. My guild is not small, but daily activity is down to a handful of people, and I know mine is not the only one suffering this attrition. I have reached out to our old GW1 Alliance guilds to see if there is a way we can help each other unlock these new missions. In the course of doing this a couple of thoughts came to mind
- we need an Alliance chat like we had in GW1
Small guilds are small for a reason. They don’t want to join large ones, but most do not have a problem teaming together for content. An Alliance chat facilitates this kind of team coordination and participation during times of player attrition
- an Alliance feature should be added to Guild creation
I created my own Alliance rank to add participants in guild missions (when we finally earn enough to unlock the first tier) This works to distinguish my members from other guild guests but it does not afford guests the proper mission rewards if they do not rep my guild. Nor does it assist their own guild in building influence toward their own unlocks. My plan is to guest with my old Alliance buddies when their guild earns enough to unlock, so that they can then start building influence for the next unlock. But my good lord what a convoluted and time consuming work around this is.
- Alliance members should be able to rep their own guild in missions, earn the full rewards and also the influence for their respective guilds, not just the hosting guild
Ya, now this gets tricky doesn’t it. Which is why the Alliance feature in the Guild panel would be a requirement. The Alliance feature, ideally, would also work for teaming up in other content like dungeons as guilds work toward their influence requirement.
That’s all I got so far, folks. My thoughts only, bound to be shot down with cries of ‘join a large guild or merge together’, but it’s worth putting out there as a possible solution for the numerous small guilds. I had this in a separate thread, but it has been buried several pages down. I still think this might be a good solution for small guilds.

I’ve spoken to many smaller guilds to attempt some “alliance” for this content. Most want 100% rep, and leave the guild you’ve spent months building. Taking turns on repping? Got shot down.

Yes, that can be a tough sell for people. Not because they don’t want you to have the influence, but because they want their own guild to have it so that they can continue building toward the unlock. Putting small guilds under the umbrella of ‘Alliance’ and allowing influence earned in missions/dungeons to remain within their own guilds would certainly work toward cooperation and participation.

I’ll say this. I certainly know the feeling that upgrading and siege-ing up a place can feel like throwing money into the wind.

Upgrading can be dull, and can leave you pondering your life choices as you stare at some yak’s butt as it dawdles along to your keep.

I get that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and I’m fine with that. But if you are doing upgrades or siege placement, know it’s not a wasted effort. It’s disappointing to see an almost upgraded tower get captured, but if that upgrade gets through and we can properly siege up a place, you can tie up a zerg for hours. If you don’t have the money for an upgrade or siege, just type out that " X location needs doors. Or, X location needs siege". Also find that calling out for a siege refresh at a location will do wonders. Usually folks will respond, especially if you ask nicely:)

^^ This. Quoted for truth, every server. And can I add, try not to let it break your heart when you have gone to bed after upgrading and siege-ing up a tower so nicely and come back on next day to find it gone…all gone. Go hug a yak and start fresh.

Just have to steal this from the tier 3 (NA) thread. I find it’s funny but I am easily amused.

I think people’s definition of what a “zerg” is changes from post to post and conversation to conversation. From what I understand of what a “zerg” is:

1. Any group of players that has more people than you.
2. Any group of players that has more numbers and kills you.
3. A large amount of players.
4. A large amount of players moving around together.
5. A large amount of players that has more people than you and moving together.
6. An unorganized group of a large amount of players that has more players than you.
7. A title to indicate a save-face term that helps you feel better when you die to a large number of players that outnumber you and have more people than you that move around in either a coordinated or uncoordinated fashion which always implies your death was to a bunch of zerging unskilled people.
8. A bunch of people on your screen because you can’t count.

Basically, that is what a zerg is, from what I have read over the years of gaming. It always changes from person to person.

A zerg can zerg a zerg and move better than another zerg while being zerged by a zerg and defeat a zerg in a coordinated better zerg. And if you get zerged its because a zerg is bad and you are better because a zerg is always bad but because you die its not your faults its because of a zerg.

So you can feel better dying to zergs because you are better because you are not in a zerg when you get zerged. Unless it is a coordinated zerg that meant to zerg.

Make sense?

zomg, so this. I think that this means I too am easily amused.

You folks kept us movin last night, that’s for sure! Talking about SBI’s ‘numbers’ will still make us shake our heads, considering the size of the groups DR and IoJ have flung at us. For instance, early last night a few of us were on IoJ BL, seriously, a few..we had to wait for a 10th person to show up to even start the Siegerazer event. We got the spawn tower, then managed enough supply to build one arrow cart and a cata inside it. At one point some sneaky IoJ’s even obliterated the back wall but didn’t make the push inside. My heart was in my throat most of the time because there were only 4 of us at the tower. (BTW that really sassy looking ele on the ramparts who likes to think she’s a crack shot on arrow cart/cata/treb, that’s me ;p ) We might have made better headway if we hadn’t split to try and take Hills. But with 10 ppl, no supply, and waves of red maniacs intent on crushing us into little badges we had to call off that particular endeavor and depart for our own BL, which was in need of bodies. Reset night is madness.
A great night, everyone, looking forward to this week. See you on the field!

I spent the weekends farming PvE to support my WvW habit for the upcoming week. I am not alone in this. I am also big on upgrading camps/towers/keeps as I go by, and donating siege. So yea, I run lean by reset.
