That’s a decent idea if anyone other than you would be lazy enough to do it. And I’m constantly shocked at the laziness of people so ya, probly.

3 years ago, a little after the launch of gw2, I met a woman ( Through the ‘meddling’ of her sister, and an ex-colleague (now close friend) ).

We live quite far from each other, so seeing each other regularly was difficult. And spending more than a few hours a week together was near impossible.

During this time, I had bought a copy of GW2 for her, and for myself, and it is in GW2 that we played together over these 3 years. We had adventures, began and maintained a guild, went through these amazing challenges… and mostly… we bonded. Grew together. Fell in love.

It is for this reason I wish to extend my gratitude to Arena Net and the Guild Wars 2 team.

It is in a large part to you that her and I … are getting Married in December.

December 27 2015.

Thank you so much!

Level the playing field, buff Outmanned. Make it double the duration on Righteous Indignation for Outmanned Supervisors and Make Outmanned keeps and camps loose supply when captured. This should slow down larger zergs and promote small group play. Increase difficulty/level of all outmanned NPC’s to make their caravans more likely to get somewhere.

[…] these skills rewards and encourages poor group etiquette, [..]

The only poor thing is, that GW2 pve allows teamstacking in 1 point and fighting melee to be that efficient.

It is not that Greatsword or Longbow enourage poor group etiquette, it is the bad design, which allows your whole group (inclduing “glassy” DDs) to stand togther on one point in melee range of the enemy.

Not Mesmer GS or Ranger LB should be changed, the dungeon design should be changed into no allowing melee cuddleing.

Honestly, I play GW2 in a less efficient, level-everything-and-get-all-the-things way than your average player, so I haven’t experienced the kind of trouble people are talking about with the megaservers. I won’t pretend to know much about that.

I just wanted to drop by and say thanks. One of the biggest disappointments I’ve found in nearly every MMO I’ve ever played has been how strangely empty maps tend to be, despite the term “massively multiplayer.” It’s horrible to get stuck working through quests on an empty map, calling out to an empty map chat, and just trying to grind through until the next populated map.

It’s so, so nice to see people on the maps again. I finally feel like it’s worthwhile to run around Orr! There are people in the intermediate maps, not just starter zones and endzones. Every time I see a stranger on the map, whether or not I am inclined at the moment to say hello, I just feel a glow of happiness that I’m not alone. I know the megaserver has a lot of flaws, but I trust those will be worked out in time. It’s a new system, and even good changes have always been met with some opposition in the beginning. Keep it up, Anet!

Personally I have mixed feelings about it.

To expand, many people like to worldboss hop, so I joined the giant zergball that was bossing.

Wow. You barely get a hit in on the boss, and it’s dead.

This is good, and bad.

*It gets you the rewards quickly – you farm those bags like no tomorrow.

*Good for those really difficult bosses like tequila. (tech – quat – til? ter cha toil? tech-weasel? whatever. that really lame one. i hate that one.)

*Bad in that if you’re not literally on top of the boss, or champ, you aren’t going to get credit for the kill.

Oh sure, you can use a ranged guy, but if your shots miss, in that giant mess of graphics and explosions, you can barely see the numbers above the boss – the screen gets really busy. I don’t care how good you are at playing – its confusing.

Much less even able to realize you’ve got any loot in the area because 2-3 hundred pairs of feet and bodies are blocking your view. (anyone else running in circles and spamming f?)

Not to mention that just because you can see a lot of the people around you, doesn’t mean there’s not another 300 that aren’t showing up on your screen – there’s performance issues with it as well.

I feel as though the boss fights were more fun despite having to struggle a little bit. Now it’s just hit 1… look for a stack of fields, blast. wait for next field stack, blast at the ready. (Was on my warrior while this was going on.)

Sure, everyone gets like 26 stacks of might, and completely healed to full, and the boss melts.. but where’d the fun go?

To me, its like PvE is now WvW, except without the fun of stomping some other server’s weak zerg-blob that’s bad at zerging, with less frequent and often less valuable looting chances. (if you’re not in an 80 zone) I’m not really happy about that.. PvE was more fun with less people. Im kind of unhappy saying that too.

(I like the new population, but.. theres a few drawbacks.)

I went to PvE as a little break from WvW from time to time, slow the pace down a bit, and enjoy the game’s fun bosses. Now we have a giant zerg hitting every boss. I’m not so sure how I enjoy that. Feels boring.

I’ll be taking breaks from WvW by logging off from here on out, its kind of the only thing I really like about gw2 anymore =/

I’d like to get a sense of the ideas people have on MegaServer and its effects on PvE in general.

Honestly with the mega servers now I wouldn’t mind some serious MEGA events. Why not have the actions and outcomes of one area spill into another area? I remember reading an article before the game came out describing undead attacking a village, then the village falls and if you didn’t do anything they would keep marching on ect.

Why not create event chains that affect several areas at once? It would involve people of wide level ranges, create a broader content area instead of farming the same chain over and over, and also add some immersion to the world.

Lets say some centaurs start attacking in kessex hills. You don’t beat them back? they take a small stronghold with some veteran and champ mobs. They hold it for a while? they start sending raiding parties to attack villagers and neighboring areas. Hell if it got bad enough maybe we could see some NPC vs NPC battles happen. They wanted to make a living world, I think its time they step up their game and make some “world” sized changes for once.

It would be nice to get that WvW feel (towers, camps, castles) in PvE with certain areas having capture able hard points for NPC’s and players. Most of the time out in the world it feels like nothing is happening, just the same old stuff. I want to see people running in fear from a horde of enemies approaching, villages on fire from a large raid, things like that.

Day 31….

My fellow survivors and I are still adrift on some forsaken ocean, forgotten in the wake of the Megaserver apocalypse. Morale is low. Many of us didn’t make it this long, leaping overboard with broken spirit and hoping the fates would see to give them a better life in the great beyond.

Our supplies have dwindled and soon we’ll have to draw straws to see who will be eaten for the others to survive.

With nary a devpost in sight to offer us hope I fear we will not last long.

I’m certain the captain has been lying about how much fresh water is left. I don’t think I’m going to make it.

Just two wishes and thats it:

1) Makes the pet optional. Either stowed to get damage or some other kind of buff or trade the pet for preparations from GW1.

2) Make Guard/Passive a hotkey (like F5) so I can bind it to something.

I’m going to hold out hope for #1, but #2 really should have been done in Beta.

Prysin’s Wishlist for Ranger changes 2014:

Pet
1st Wish = Greater diversity/animal families, EG; snakes, minotaurs, bugs
2nd Wish = The ability to mount certain animals through a grandmaster trait
3rd Wish = Better model scaling with Norn and Charr
4th Wish = Increasing base HP in WvW equal to what was done in PvE
5th Wish = Giving more pets the ability to cleave, ranged pets (Spider/Devourer) get cone attacks.

Weapons
1st Wish = The ability to use Spears (Offensive high DPS melee) and staffs (defensive buffing ranged) on land.

2nd Wish = Give “Long Range shot” 100% projectile finisher chance. If anything, this will greatly increase longbow synergy with other professions/players.

3rd Wish = Make Monarch’s Leap/Hornet Sting into a “Shadowstep” like move. Currently this skill is too random, and the jump-back effect more often then not causes problems.

4th Wish = Torch #5, allow it to become a AOE similar to traps when using the trait “Offhand Mastery”.

5th Wish = Warhorn #4, change skill. AOE blind X seconds, applies 3 seconds Fear on enemies with less then 50% HP.

Trait system
1st Wish = Signet of the Beastmaster, Make signets apply to the ranger, aswell as pet, without having to trait for it. Either remove this trait, or redesign it into something similar to “Trap Potency”, just for signets instead.

2nd Wish = Opening Strikes, merge the current Marksman Adept Minor and Master Minor. Make either Spotter, Beastmasters Might or Eagle Eye the new Master Minor

3rd Wish = Give us a Minor (be it adept, master or grandmaster) trait that increases movement speed while wielding bows.

4th Wish = Increase HP or toughness on spirits. Give them passive regeneration equal to the player through “Natural healing” trait. (125hp/3sec)

5th Wish = Allow rangers to become invisible when out of combat for more then 30 seconds if using the trait “Hide in plain sight”.

Utility Skills
1st Wish = Remove the healthbar, or summoning duration on spirits. Either they last for XX seconds/minutes or they last until they are killed (this system cannot be implemented into PvP as it would make spirits over the top OP)

2nd Wish = Allow Search and Rescue to instantly revive downed or defeated players on the cost of pet dieing. In WvW, pet’s should ignore NPC’s to avoid too much lord ressing.

3rd Wish = Give us back Preparations. They are great, and would let the ranger shine as a ranged profession. Removing obsolete traits in the Skirmishing line would open up for the ability to trait these utilities.

4th Wish = Reduce Cooldown on Quickening Zephyr by a few seconds. Now that the attack rate has been reduced, it is less effective and thus, deserves a lower cooldown.

5th Wish = Make Lightning Reflexes a blast or leap finisher and remove Immobilize, Chilled and Crippled conditions.

Period. I’m not playing enforcer, and you made it so if anyone wants any titles or anything they have to run errands for the Consortium, so I’m not doing any of it. I arrived, read the text, read the npc chat dialog, and left. I understand some people might be ok with it, but just seeing it nonstop on every zoning or login, I am losing patience with closing it every time I do anything. Just let us hide it permanently, get rid of the screen spam. I enjoy the rest of the game, but this is a serious game breaking issue for me personally. Emote System that should be in Every Game

in Suggestions

Posted by: Nurvus.2891

Nurvus.2891

Neverwinter Nights and Smite both have an Emote system that I believe to be the best ever created.

It does not require any slash commands or clicking.

It simply has a single “root” keybinding, such as “v”.

You press “v”, and it displays various “subjects”, such as Exploration (e) or Social (s).
At this point, pressing one of the available keys, such as “e” for Exploration, will display options within that subject, such as “e” for “Check the surroundings”, or “f” for “I found something”

So if you press V-E-E in quick succession, you ask nearby players to check the surroundings. This can and will be easily done in a fraction of a second.

Pressing V at any time during this process cancels the Emote and returns your keybinds to their usual functions (such as targetting, combat, movement and panels).

It is so intuitive and easy to use and memorize emotes in this manner, that soon you use emotes instantly, withoutneeding to look or think, even between skills, during a jump, etc.
It truly becomes part of the gameplay and is awesome.
I recommend this to any RPG, MMO and otherwise.

ANet can IMPROVE such system by adding a variable – Shift.
Pressing V would perform the Emote on your target (John waves at Rambo.).
Pressing Shift+V would perform the Emote without target (John waves.).

True Progression - Skill Variants

in Suggestions

Posted by: Nurvus.2891

Nurvus.2891

Disclaimer: Yes, I’m suggesting something similar to Diablo 3 Skills, but in GW2 the results would be 10x better.

Would be nice if skills had a couple of variants that you must unlock by spending Skill Points.

  • You can only use 1 Variant at a time.
  • Each and every Skill has 2-4 Variants, including Weapon, Healing, Utility and Elite Skills
  • The number of Variants can be different for each skill. Some might have 2, others 3, others 4 (inspired by Sacros.7418).
  • You can only unlock Skill Variants after unlocking all the default Weapon, Healing, Utility and Elite Skills for that Profession
  • Each Variant becomes available for unlock only after defeating certain monsters scattered throughout the game World
  • Each Skill Variant costs 1 Skill Point – even Elite Skill Variants.
  • Skill Variants won’t need unique character animations, but would have different VFX.
  • Variants could be small improvements over the default skills, instead of equivalent with bonuses and penalties, functioning as “diagonal” progression.

Example Skill Variants:
Guardian Greatsword – Skill #2 – Whirling Wrath

  • Unmodified – Current effects
  • Version 1 – Unable to move, but damage is increased by X%.
  • Version 2 – Unable to move, but area is increased.
  • Version 3 – Deal less damage, but apply Burning with each hit.
  • Version 4 – Instead of spinning multiple times over 3/4 s to deal damage, you spin once over 1/4 s to create a whirlwind that will perform the attack for you, dealing the normal damage over the usual 3/4 s.
The whirlwind moves in the same direction and with the same speed you did while creating it.
The downside is the extra 1/4 s startup delay to create the whirlwind.
The upside is the ability to use skills immediately after creating the whirlwind.
So you reduce the activation time from 3/4 to 1/4, but it takes 1/4 longer to start dealing damage, and has limited movement.

This would let you focus on Condition build with Greatsword (Variant 3), go for better mobility/agility (Variant 4), sacrifice mobility for raw damage (Variant 1) or sacrifice mobility for improved AoE capability (Variant 2).

Healing Skills – Warrior’s Healing Surge
Grants 10 Adrenaline and Heals more based on your Stage of Adrenaline

  • No variant – default effect
  • Variant #1 – Build more Adrenaline but less base healing
  • Variant #2 – Give less Adrenaline but more healing per Stage of Adrenaline
  • Variant #3 – Can’t move while activating but grant Fury (X s) at the end.
  • Variant #4 – Heal 1 condition per Stage of Adrenaline instead of extra healing.

Utility Skills – Ranger’s Lightning Reflexes
Evade back with a crack of lightning, dealing damage and gaining vigor.

  • No variant – current effect
  • Variant #1 – No Vigor but more damage.
  • Variant #2 – Evade forward instead of backward.
  • Variant #3 – More vigor but less damage.
  • Variant #4 – Causes weakness on nearby enemies instead of granting Vigor.

Elite Skills – Elementalist’s Glyph of Elementals
Summon an elemental based on your attunement.
- Fire Elemental: Deals damage.
- Ice Elemental: Deals damage and heals.
- Air Elemental: Deals damage and stuns.
- Earth Elemental: Deals damage and is hard to kill.
Duration: 60 s
Range: 1,200

  • No Variant – current effect
  • Variant #1 – Reduce duration but cause Elementals to apply an effect on hit:
    - Fire – Burning (1 s)
    - Ice – Chill (1 s)
    - Air – Bleeding (X s)
    - Earth – Weakness (1 s)
  • Variant #2 – Reduce duration but increase damage dealt by Elementalist while Elemental is alive.
  • Variant #3 – Reduce duration but gain a Command for each Elemental.
  • Variant #4 – Increase duration but can’t move while activating skill.

By opening up more builds for each weapon, the game becomes richer.

I’m almost positive this post has been made before, but i think its about time we show Anet what we want, Dye-able weapons, everyone should be able to match their weapons color to their armor colors, and if you’re anything like me, it will drive you crazy until you find something that fits with your armor set.

With this, we could all be unique (not that we already aren’t) but now we could finally have our dream set, and be able to be happy with our dyed weapons. I dont see anything wrong with this and i think everyone would find some enjoyment out of it.

(legendaries will not be able to be re-dyed)

EDIT (added from comments)
4 sections:
• Base Color – All portion of the weapon not touched on by the other 3 areas. – fully dye-able (dye replaces color completely)
• Hilt/Handle/Stock – fully dye-able (dye replaces color completely)
• Blade/Barrel – tintable (dye changes the hue slightly)
• Accents/Effects – Accents such as filigree decorative elements, or the visual effect that weapons produce – Tintable (Effects) or fully dye-able (Accent work.)

Currently, in order to see buffs/conditions, or number of stacks of Master’s Bond trait on your pet you must target it (unless I am missing something?).

What I would really prefer to see instead, is a bit richer pet UI that could be moved, similar to that of the party UI where you can see the player’s name, avatar, hp bar (we already have this but its location above the skills bar is not the best) plus their current status with buffs and conditions. Afterall, being a ranger is like being in a party with your pet constantly. I believe that would really help us monitor our pet’s status.

I’d like to see a section in the forums for server conversations; a place where server communities can plan map runs for new players, (Orr anyone?), organize RP events, rally players for WvW, or find out what zone the most people are in just to have players to run around with in PvE.

For example, being in a small guild, it’s impossible for us to clear the temples on Orr. It would be nice to have a place we can go to be able to put a shout out to the other players on the server, requesting assistance and/or planning a day where a large number of players on the server would go to Orr and sweep it clean. It would make it easier for new players to complete those zones for map completion as well.

Just a thought, perhaps there is already a site or section for this, please let me know if so.

Long Range Shot Simple Fix

in Ranger

Posted by: jcbroe.4329

jcbroe.4329

So, and here me out because this involves logic which we know doesn’t exist in videogames, but thinking about it, I feel like there is a really simple solution to the longbow auto attack:

As the enemy gets closer to you, you fire faster.

See, logically, it makes sense because the closer somebody is, the less time it would be taking to aim shots, and the less time the arrow would spend in the air, so you would be refiring faster as they get closer. Secondly, it would balance out how poor the damage is up close. Not that it is supposed to be a close range weapon, but it would allow the auto attack to still maintain pressure, while rapid fire still being the better close range option due to superior refire speed.

What I’m thinking is this:
Long range: 1.2-1.25s aka what it is now.
Intermediate range: .9s or about 1/3 faster. Also, this kind of matches the damage scaling between ranges.
Short range: .75-.8s

Also, this would make it stronger than crossfire auto attack, which would mean that there would finally be some distinction between the weapons as to what intended purpose they serve (and how well they actually perform it).

Thoughts? I’m aware that there are improvement threads all the time, but I don’t believe something of this sort has been mentioned, so I’m hoping it gets some feedback/attention.

What I feel is lacking in this game

in Suggestions

Posted by: bleyzwun.1204

bleyzwun.1204

Before reading this, just know that I don’t hate GW2. If I did, I would not bother to write anything. This game has great potential, but potential doesn’t make a great game. Too many MMOs with potential have came out in recent years, but could not become what they should have been .

I know this post is long, and I hope I didn’t waste my time writing this. I’m sure the topics have been covered before, but I just wanted to add my thoughts.

What I find lacking is…

Character customization:
The choices I make in the beginning are kinda cool, but I don’t really feel any sort of impact from it. I feel that a good amount of the skills and traits are bland. It seems as though, by trying to keep the classes balanced, they have in turn made a lot of things boring. With the limited amount of skills we have, each one of them should stand out. Having bland skills can easily be overlooked in other MMOs since you will have others on your bar.

I like the weapon system, yet at the same time, I don’t. What really bothers me is that if I’m not a fan of one type of weapon, but it fits my play style, then that’s what I must use to enjoy the combat. It woud be great if they added more weapon skills that you could swap like slot skills.

I also feel the traits available just don’t make me feel all too unique. I’m not sure how WoW is now, since I haven’t played in a long time… but I liked the fact that if you went into one tree you would unlock new skills. Most of the regular choices were usually pretty interesting as well.

Story:
Yeah, it’s there… but it plays out like a story for very young children. If you are going to add story to a MMO, then do it right. I could overlook the bad acting if they were entertaining. I enjoyed a little bit of the stories, but for the most part, they were very simple and predictable. I know story isn’t the core of a MMO, but I do enjoy a good story. I also enjoy choices that affect my character. The choices you make in this game really don’t matter. In the end you are going to be rolling with Trahern, become a typical hero, and do the same exact kitten as everyone else. I’d love to be more involved in the story and have my actions change the outcome.

With that being said, I’ll take improvements in other aspects of the game over this. However, since it is in the game, I would have liked it to be better.

And one more thing to add to this part… How horrible is the last part of the story? That was the most boring battle against a last boss I ever had. IMO just scrap half of the story starting from Trahern and start over if possible.

World Bosses:
These guys are a complete joke. When I first encountered them, I said “Oh kitten! Cool!” After defeating it, I thought “Oh… that was easy. Hope the others are more entertaining.” Defeating these bosses doesn’t require any type of skill at all. If you die, it’s not because the AI was great, it’s because the mob used some powerful attacks.

At first I thought the rewards for a World Boss was too low. Now, It’s probably too much. I mean you get rewared for spamming buttons standing around hoping the mob will die quickly.

Seriously though, I see where you are coming from, but I really think races should not have any numerical advantages over one another, however small they might be. They do have different skins and everything and thats ok as it is.
