So does this mean that from Season 2 onward all seasons we’re going to be able to play through… as in a game design change that fixes what I suspect is a sad but necessary consequence of living stories?
So I’m returning to GW2 after a long absence. I’ve noticed they implemented a living story with several chapters now. Is it still playable to see what happened? If not, is there a video or videos that are best to watch to recap what happened?? Thanks.
Hope you enjoyed your time in EB tonight DR XD. No new commanders or tranfers. The QQing just kitten us off a bit. Blame your forum warriors for lighting a fire under our bottoms.
Hats off you guys were amazing tonight.
VERY impressive play from SBI in EB tonight. I was literally in awe since I had never seen that kind of play from them before. Good work all around to you guys. Is there a new commander? Trying new tactics? Got some transfers? Brilliant maneuvers and hats off.
…
Who did you refer to when you said the “trolls” then? I understand that you want to distance yourself from me, but I find it strange since you in the same post say you have no clue who I am.
Really? OK, I literally got onto the forum and started reading in backwards order and saw some SBI posts upset about DR “whining”. So I skimmed and skipped them and kept going back up seeing the same back and forth thread going and going and going and skipping them fairly quickly. Then I thought omg same stuff again… I’ll make my own ranting post! That’s it. I wasn’t calling you out… sorry if it seemed that way.
Again the previous post had no reference to where you live, but was making a generalized point about the soloing attitudes and roughly tying it to our American or Western culture of individualism.
I did not make any statement about Arena Net catering or not to roaming squads. ? Maybe you read a different post?
I don’t believe they cripple people who don’t want to run in groups. I feel that if people don’t want to play the style of PVP that WvW is designed for, then they should try SPvP and if they find that not fun then IDK what to say at that point. Certainly they shouldn’t demand that people should play differently. That’s not going to happen. All we can do to influence the enemies behavior by being upset about “zerging” and making accusations against other servers is to kitten them off and cause them to hit even harder and stronger than before. That’s it. No one’s going to be like “oh they’re right let’s stop zerging”. lol
I’m not discouraging you to voice your opinion, merely voicing a much rarer opinion on the forums which is a complete disagreement with all this anti-zerging discussion. It seems like from the very beginning there was this almost defacto attitude of superiority among the anti-zergers which is baffling to me. Most solo players from my perspective have just looked for kills and aren’t integrated into a team following a commander’s lead to accomplish individualized objectives in support of a zerg. They just run around, which kinda defeats the whole purpose of wvw… so in general I have a fundamental opposition to that kind of mentality. That’s not to say that we don’t have AWESOME soloers or small man groups that are integrated into team based strategies. So I’m not calling anyone else out here. No need for DR hate mail.
Actually, both me and many others have stated that we are not losing because of numbers, but because of coverage. Therefore I think your post is very unjustified.
When you see me complaining about SBI only running around in their <large number of players>, it is not because we are losing due to it. On the contrary, it’s a major reason why we do so well in prime time.
Firstly, I want to say that if you hear any pointed individual attack towards you in this post here, I apologize as you struck a nerve of areas that I’ve disagreed with in many other GW2 posts so when I respond to that it’s my general annoyance nothing specific to you.
Which is really what my post was, wasn’t it? Nothing specific to you. A comment on the general tenor of this thread not some so-called cleverly sophisticated and reasoned exegesis on the evils of SBI that you performed in some previous post. No one’s a unique snowflake and I don’t even bother to read the tags or decide who says what. I have a hard enough time keeping up with who my own guildies are. However, even this “that’s not what I was saying mine is more clever” response when pointed out how common all these arguments are (which is a very typical retort in this situation) reminds me of the Architect scene in the Matrix “this will be the sixth time [. . .] and we have become exceedingly efficient at it”.
Which gets to the thing that really rustles my jimmies… this whole problem of the people upset because they are “roamers” and they feel that WVW should cater to their individual style of play and the fact that if wvw doesn’t then it requires constant attempts to 1960s style manipulate the majority through overwhelming public demonstration and complaint.
Look we get it, us Americans like our individuality. So much so that we have developed a sociological group pathological aversion to the uncomfortable fact that we are not so unique. God help us the day that the military is actually designed to cater to people’s special little individuality. Perhaps, (and I know this sounds harsh… and probably shouldn’t be said) these people are driven to these complaints because of feelings of inferiority and when they have some individually successful one-v-one match they are psychologically and emotionally fulfilled in some way by doing this. God knows.
The bottom line is that SBI does not owe enemies anything. They don’t need to play a certain way so that little one-v-one “look at me I’m special” players have their fun. Their only functioning goal is to play so that they win and win by the biggest margins they can. To that end, they somewhat organically develop the most ideal strategies that tend to work and these strategies get refined over time. As it is, and quite OBVIOUSLY, it turns out that in large scale military style combat working together in large groups is an efficient and powerful tactic (GASP.. we just reinvented the wheel). I believe that individual skill and technique is very sophisticated in zerg style play and should not be dismissed so readily by the “roamers” that just can’t seem to master it or don’t prefer it.
I actually have done all styles in WVW depending on what the commander on the map needs from me and when. I’ve done solo. I’ve done small man. I’ve done zerg. In each case there’s a separate skill set that is required to be effective and valuable. In all cases I have noticed NO difference fighting EBay versus SBI, except that EBay did appear, as I think you indicated, the stronger opponent. (Hence why they are now ahead in the rankings… gasp…)
If you don’t prefer zerg, I suggest playing a different style pvp. If you believe you are a special unique snowflake and want everyone to acknowledge that, unfortunately no one knows or cares. I can’t even at this moment remember what your tag was. We’re all just the same decaying organic matter as everyone else. Enjoy reality.
Sorry for the long post… not really worth reading now that I think about it as I just ramble in it. LOL.
Anyways no hard feelings to you for real man, just play the game and have fun. I’m borderline insane, so don’t get too hot under the collar and take this with a grain of salt.
sigh
As a member of DR, I’d say the same arguments always happen in unbalanced servers and it does get old and probably every server here has been on the giving and receiving end of all of these silly arguments.
Why? Because essentially we are all random collections of people with very little difference between our demographics. In fact, so similar that we enjoy both GW2 and WVW in specific. We’d probably have a lot to talk about IRL…
Bottom line is my theory is a lot of these people that jump onto forums and complain about numbers etc. TEND TO BE newer to wvw (not all but it’s more prevalent). They get into it and get frustrated at some of the imbalance and think they’ve got this brilliant idea that X server is beating Y server due to numbers and has no skill otherwise. ETC.ETC.ETC.
DR used to be the victims of this when we were winning.
From the vast majority of DR players I play with who are serious and hardcore wvw players, I’d say that our HONEST opinions are that we feel outmatched against SBI, and consider them fairly good individually and as well as organizationally.
IoJ we have less fear of, and at least myself personally feel that we tend to outmatch them but they play the scores very well and give us a very good run for our money because they know what they are doing. I think I personally have felt that if we can hold off IoJ they will tend to back off and find somewhere else to play, while SBI tends to be more tenacious and relentless.
However, as I said before, probably much of these perceived differences are fictitious as we are largely a randomized sample of a very specific subset population.
Please for all involved ignore the trolls and accept DR’s apology if you think that they represent the entire server. We feel you guys are very decent servers and obviously SBI is kicking our tails!

You just bashed him for responding to this thread on an open forum and then in the next breath stated you will not read what he has to say on the same forum. You will only talk to him him in whispers or TS but could you not have done the same thing?
[/quote]
I feel that this is a logical fallacy of at least either inconsistent or incomplete comparison. In this case, the extremely public and vitriolic nature of whoever this Yorgy was somewhat demands to be responded to. The bottom line is can we have the responsible parties that have upset each other to please take a breather and handle their issues separately.
While I recognize that immaturity on some level will be ever present in online gaming (as will back seat commanding in wvw, I suppose), I also would like it if we could try to self-police these kinds of outbursts and disagreements when they can be a negative force for a server in a game that requires some level of cooperation. We don’t need that immaturity “poisoning the well” so to speak. This is the main thrust of his argument, I think, and it is one that is still valid regardless of this counter claim of “pot calling the kettle”. It is by far the more important issue. Please keep your spats private. The other servers don’t really care, and we don’t want to have our server represented in this way.
To Magumma (from a dr player),
Trah talk aside, since it is apparent you are moving up in tier, I’d like to be one of the first to offer congratulations on your success these past two weeks. It’s a testament to your skill individually and strategically. I’d also say thank you for helping to teach our server many things. We aspire to the culture and competency you folks display. It is no wonder you folks attracted so many players in our tier. Don’t be to hard on them. Your fun and humor around flame rams as well as your success is a very attractive pull for many. Yes you have superior numbers but you use them intelligently. We wish you success until we meet you again in battle!
To Borlis,
I dream of a matchup between us and Anvil Rock as I feel that would be a great challenge to really judge our respective strength. Sorry to hear of your transfers but it is nice to get a leg up on you this week as we want to fight for this tier!
To Devona,
Never give up! It has been awesome to listen in on teamspeak as we struggle to learn and compensate for what we have encountered. We have some awesome leadership who is willing to listen and respond in creative ways! It may seem like magumma is just mindless barbarian masses, but most of you have recognized their superior organization as well and have tirelessly worked to move our server in that direction. We are better for it!

I know this is here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Annoying-Sound-Bug/first
However, that was 4 months ago. I still experience this problem from time to time. Is there still people working on this? I hope?
haha thanks for the encouraging words. we already are losing the fair weathers and the behaviors of some folks arent helping. However I am luckily insulated because I have an amazing and active guild with great leaders and commanders who havent freaked out but I think are surprised by the shake up
I think we both agree that while we’re red to each other this can be a fun game!
by the way you borlis guys were really nice the other day in the jump puzzle… thanks!
I’m from DR.
Here are my (admittedly back seat quarterbacking) thoughts regarding our implosion after not being able to last one week against a serious challenge in the higher tier…
Take a deep breathe, friend, and let it out.
When BP first made it to this tier, we were told that this is the one that breaks servers, and it’s true. It seems each level is a little bit tougher than the one before until you make the jump from 6 to 5, then it’s a massive spike in playstyle and toughness. That momentum that propelled you up through the lower levels can give you quite the dented head when you hit the wall. You can either break and slide back down, or huddle up and figure out how to change up everything you thought you already had down pat.
I think we all have to struggle through this crucible to evolve. You will find the fair-weathered guilds will jump, but the die-hards will dig in and learn on the fly. Plan on sticking around at this level while you figure it out, and you will find that eventually you too will be the server that breaks the others coming up. Then set your sights on tier 4.
I’m from DR.
Here are my (admittedly back seat quarterbacking) thoughts regarding our implosion after not being able to last one week against a serious challenge in the higher tier. I’m not really sure all of this is entirely possible given the venue that we have to deal with, but take it as a sort of wish list as we go through this correction period.
1. DR needs to take a step back and evaluate the maturity level of its people top down. WvW guilds need to start working towards putting in place leaders that are personable affable people willing to be humble and level headed first, but are also willing to gkick commanders that do not abide by a code of conduct even in the heat of battle (perhaps some of our commanders should read a good little book called ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People’ :P ).
2. The WvW guilds need to kinda agree that they’re all going to maintain the same level of discipline.
3. After that, we need to stay united on this front and handle the (always present in any game) “morale killing” personalities and characters that are less mature emotionally and socially.
4. We need to have a standard of conduct that we take pride in when discoursing on the forums or in public venues. This should be guild enforced. It should be our badge of honor not that we win, but that we win with class and lose with dignity. When I see human behavior like this, I’m not so much embarrassed to be on this “server” or in this game… more… I’m embarrassed to be in this kind of entitled self-obsessed culture with everyone believing that their mommy was right when she told them they were special unique snowflakes. REMEMBER! Other guilds in top tier servers read these forums to judge the relative quality of our server. How do we look to outside serious guilds? Engaging in all of the classic petty whining and chest thumping and bad attitudes and behaviors. If you were a serious guild, would you come HERE?
5. We need to strive to win, stand our ground in loss, and make our enemy struggle for every single solitary point they earn no matter how bad the odds are and what the technical reasons are (population, organization, % adoption of voice communication, etc). When faced with a challenge, like mismatched population, we need to strive to adjust our strategy and set achievable goals as a server for the week and set out to accomplish them. Though we may lose in points, we may have internal victories from week to week like keeping the point spread down to a specific difference… or holding our BL or whatever we choose as an achievable goal.
6. Within this framework, the last and most important thing we need to do is recognize that however we restructure, it should be for the good of the community and to have FUN…kittenN… this is what we are here for. We can have fun within this context if we adjust our attitudes and as guilds demand better from our leaders and commanders. I know that many of them are capable of it, and with inter-guild meetings, I believe we can achieve it.
That’s unfortunate, because I’d sure like to know what I’m supposed to be seeing/reporting so as to help clean this mess up. It’s starting to feel like it’s gotten to the point to where the game is being affected not by the hackers but by all the paranoia. I’m not sure, just trying to find some understanding/explanation.
I hear there’s a “God Mode” hack is there any validity to this?
Sigh, so I run with a couple of guilds and it feels like every night multiple times usually when a couple of the guys in the guild die and they start yelling about hacks and people are invincible and they should’ve died to their epic attacks etc etc etc.
So I must be a bad player since I’m not able to see and recognize all of these hacks that are apparently all over the place if these guys are right… or there’s a lot of … paranoia out there. What I’m trying to find out from the more knowledgeable members of the community is… what should I be looking for to spot these things… what kinds of things are they doing besides no clip, flying, speed.
Most importantly, I would like to know how common are these different types of hacks in WVW??? Is there any way to tell or judge? I really have a dang hard time believing there’s as many hacks as these guys complain about.
I want to believe these guild members, but I’m starting to get the rather negative opinion that every time these guys die they blame it on hacks.
Don’t know why you are posting in this dated thread, troll, but when are you going to realize that your personal feelings of what is more fun or your assessment of required skill may be neither accurate or universally agreed upon?
Server and guild strats evolve naturally into what works best to win. Sociology and human nature. Stop fighting the natural order of things.
I was disappointed to find that the link to the build did not seem to work. No traits or anything were picked it was just a blank ele build.
I will second what PRO said and add that not just PRO abandoned map. We refused to defend bay, and about 3 minutes after that abandoned map. We hope you get Bay back hastily and enjoy holding it for a while.
It’s a shame that SF who isnt outmanned has to wait and spawn the NPC champion to take towers. It’s even numbers out there late night fellas. .
It’s a shame that DR who isnt outmanned has to wait and spawn a dozen siege golems to take garrisons. lol look how many of u it took to kill us
You act like not having the outmanned buff somehow means we have the supply to gain a foothold in the map. Like somehow us not being outmanned makes it so you guys don’t have the towers maxed out with waypoints in all the keeps. Our lack of extra karma and experience from events is draining you guys of supply so you can’t just keep repairing or out-siege us. Or the lack of outmanned means when you guys see that one of your towers is under attack you won’t bring half your server over to respond to it.
You do good ONE week and suddenly you’re big man in the house. Well, I wish you and your guildies the best of luck when you get in a balanced matchup.
Such melodrama. I wasn’t there, but I’ve been seeing a lot of siege golems we’ve been making and also different strategies we’ve been testing. The truth is, it’s not about you or Henge or anything else. It’s that we’re BORED. BORED BORED BORED. We expected a challenge, but it turned out we are going to have to wait another week to get through the servers that have pop changed. So we’re trying fun things like building golem armies, portal bombing, some of our commanders are off completing pve achievements. We’re just bored bored bored. We’re not going to be like “Oh these poor guys, let’s back off and only send an equal number of people to fight them because we care about their feelings and emotions and don’t want to crush them.” That’s not the way this works and that’s not the way life works. We’re using this week as a testing ground since we have such a breather from fighting Kain and Ferg that it allows us to test strategies and play goofy things like golem armies.
I find the new system aweful. I never noticed a problem before and all the sudden I’m experiencing it and realizing how terribly it affects our strategies and tactics as an organized group who uses vent to play. Its difficult to plan when you have no idea how many are right outside your tower attacking you because the game now chooses not to bother rendering them. It negatively affects one of the most awesome aspects of gw2 wvw… the strategy. .. the tactics. ..
Don’t fix something by making it worse.
Hi fellas. I do not usually play pvp in MMOs, because I have felt that PVP in an MMO is silly and shoehorned in to try to appeal to a wider audience.
I felt keep the pvp to the likes of modern warfare type games or in my day Quake type games, since they are more logically suited to them.
However, GW2 WVW has changed my opinions and I’ve really enjoyed it.
To that end, I’ve been lurking in these forums, and I thought I would throw down some lighthearted smack talk.
To Ferg:
I and others who lurk here have noticed recently some smack about DR’s fear of entering your BL. I would just like to leave you a couple of quotes from a poster in this forum in light of Kain’s implosion with the warning: “Be careful what you wish for.”
On November 25, 2012 one Darxio was reported posting the following:
“Keep sending it at us. RED, PRO, RAVE, BSTY, GASM, GOLD, AOD TRX, NP, UOISYUHFIOSHF, whatever. Keep sending it at our borderlands.
We are united now."
On December 1, 2012 the same Darxio was reported posting the following:
“All keeps were lost when our people were not there. And I am not going through that stress again. And many others in KAIN will agree with me.
Last week I learned just how much Devona will throw at our Borderland to try and take everything. Devona literally HATES us. They would rather continue to attack us than defend their own Borderland from attackers. That’s how much their hatred is of us.
And you know what? I’m not going to deal with it anymore. Not my problem. Not my guild’s problem. You want our borderland? Fine, take it. Go make it green and pretty and whatever. Hell, why not sprinkle some red in there with LARP helping you anyway since they went to Ferg and want to break everything of ours when you’re attacking our points.
I’m not dealing with it anymore. Find somebody else defend your attack. I might attack your stuff to reset all your upgrades like you did to us nonstop though."
Wake not the sleeping giant.
Yes I came back into an overflow where it was already completed. What a horrible waste of time. I don’t see myself participating in one of these things again. I love the overflow I joined. Bunch of other people in there that the same thing happened to them all standing dejectedly staring at the dead Ancient Karka in disbelief.
I don’t mean it really SPECIFICALLY or whatever dungeon it may be. I just mean the general area over on the other side of that island! There’s a freaking wall blocking all of it, the terrain is not enjoyable or fun at all and I’m tired of the hours I’ve spent doing nothing but running around trying to find out how to get over there. I even have a story quest over on that side and I can’t get over there for the life of me.
