my favorite was the pet swap quickned rofl-stomp in spvp…
it really did need to be balanced im surprised it took so long.
Found the vegan.
ikr? what about daily gatherer, ripping out all those poor defenseless vegetables, fruits, berries…
i just had to go next door after and stomp around in my neighbors garden.
oooh, where’d you find the kittens? ima go there for tomorrows…!!
imo the ability to go invisible for any length of time in a competetive mmo just reeks of failure. you knew it was a bad idea to have stealth at launch yet you added it anyway and now you have spvp and wvw riddled with invising thieves everywhere. videos of a thief vs 2-5+ ppl hitting and going invis constantly trivialize anets claims to want this game to be an esport…i can’t believe stealthing hasn’t been taken out yet.
gw1 assassins were on the right track with shadow step type abilitys, and gw2 would be wise to adjust the stealth skills to a similar coefficient.
if you’re having trouble vs thieves in wvw/spvp i suggest rolling one up, do about 100 spvp matches till you know how they work, then they are much easier to counter.
thief has the longest learning curve of any class i’ve played so far, but you’ll know exactly how they’re thinking if you play one enough.
been doing more matches this morning, and getting higher points, top score a few times simply by going point capping taking advantage to finish ppl along the way or join winning battles…
still rarely getting over 200
ok i recently decided to try thief for spvp to gain more knowledge about them. my main is a ranger and i kitten hard in spvp constantly getting top score in hotjoin.
my problem is, thief seems to suck. i’ve done 40 matches now in a dd/sb dps build and i just can’t seem to get kills like on my ranger. ranger has better healing, more aoe from traps, more dps, toughness, and a quickened stomp. my thief seems to always be targeted, and the stealth skills allow me to escape, but im not getting kills. cluster bomb for aoe is ok and tags fairly well, but in the heat of a center brawl i just can’t last enough to get kills.
now i’ve seen thieves totally kitten face in matches constantly scorign 250+ and im just perplexed on how they do it, what is thier method? go for capping picking off stragglers on the way, stealthing out of engagments when outnumbered? sticking with the zerg and finishing off targets in the middle of melee? staying on the edge and trying not to be noticed using cluster bomb and dagger to stealth retreat, or go for the finish?
i’ve looked at a few vids, but can’t really find one with a good explanation of basic thief point scoring in spvp.
any help would be appreciated. btw, im rank 30 and have 400matches on ranger vs 40 on thief, so mabye i just need more practice.
25/30/0/015 eagle runes, bloodlust/blood on daggers, bloodlust on sb. knights amulet with rampager jewel is what i’ve used mostly.
ps. im constantly missing with skill 5 and wasting init
wvw fight should be like alliance battles were, each keep a different instanced map. teams that win a certain map X times control it and gain points for thier world. structured server groups for guilds/friends, and hotjoin option.
would have been SO much better then what we have now, which is zerg vs zerg greater numbers win. small zergs is fun, large ones i get lag. alliance battles would pretty much have been small zergs, fun for all.
gw1 really was a better game for pvp play types, balance, and class options…. )=
the ability to go INVISIBLE for any length of time in a competetive pvp game is just kitten shadow step is fine, but all stealth needs to go….which they already knew at launch.
whats funny is they wanted this game to be an esport.
i run ranger in spvp alot, and i can get kill thieves almost 100% of the time on even footing, or make them have to retreat. its only really a prob if they get the jump on me while im dealing with someone else. thats in trap/cond/toughness build, the traps and dodges, with conditions ticking between stealths make it tough for a thief to go toe to toe.
my main is a warrior however, and any half decent thief will get me pretty much on any build aside from insta-gib hb…but then its more of a question of who hits first. i find if i hit with bulls i win, if they hit first they’ll win. i’ve had a few occasions where they stand in hb and die before they kill me, but they were poor players.
so a decent ranger is definately the bigger threat. again this is mostly from spvp, but i can’t see it changing much in wvw, and my warrior i do wvw alot.
every other life steal has a cd on proc. look at sigils of blood. you have to be deluding yourself to believe onom pies were WAI…
that said R.I.P zerker warriors (for anything other than cof1 farm)
This nerf was sorely needed. Come on, a consumable that can keep you permanently invisible even during other actions or channels with no cooldown and that also instantly removed you from aggro tables? You want this in game? Really?
nope, don’t want it in game. invis skills next please, lets give thieves shadow steps instead, invisiblity is just stupid, especially when you add it to any form of pvp.
reserved for further details…
ok first step is to get to 80. as a fresh 80 you’ll be wanting your exotic gear/sigils/runes. easiest way to do this is cof1 speed runs for gold and tokens for you’re berserker armor (slot with ruby orbs). do path 1 and 2 daily with multiple runs for path1 if you can get in a speed group, you’ll have enough tokens for you’re wpn/armor and gold for jewelry pretty quick.
once you’re geared out, you can buy omnomberry pies, and start running other dungeons/fractals. however you’ll find that a full zerker layout makes you very squishy, especially in content you’re not familiar with. run sorrows embrace to get the knights set, and more cof1 to get knight jewelry. then you can start exploring other dungeons and learning fractals without being a drain on your group. (or stay with full zerker and learn to like the taste of dirt until you learn how/when to dodge)
20 V, IX
30 V, VII, X (XII can replace VII or X depending on your your main wpn of choice for what your doing. ie: X, XII for cof farming since you won’t be using your rifle)
0
0
20 VI, III (or VII)
greatsword of accuracy
rifle of accuracy
mending, FGJ, Sig of Rage at all times, other two skills are situational. ill often use sig of fury or might and frenzy. shake it off, dolyaks when i have soldier runes on knight set, bolas for some boss fights etc…what you use come with experience and trial and error.
any questions feel free to send me a pm.
i mail them one by one to ppl i hate…
i go back when i want to do balanced and varied pvp.
sadly i must agree gw1 was better design. more skills combos, seems like alot more content, 8 player groups, etc etc…the list goes on, it makes me sad to think about it.
for wvw and spvp i use bulls/frenzy/bolas/HB to insta-gib pretty much anything. then its either time to rush out and switch to rifle or swap to axe/shield to take the focus until cd’s are done.
but its pretty lol to use that combo on ppl. also you have far more success with a full dps hb war as an asuran as opposed to a big fat norn.
full dps build, omnom pies, frenzy, hb, ww, use a corner.
don’t feel bad, i slavaged my brand new t3 cultural chest armor (30g) yesterday cleaning inv before i transmuted it.
i sent a bug report about how t3 cultural items are salvagable in the first place.
imo full dps is the way to go. i run gs/rifle full zerker with dps traits, runes, sigils at 48 daily constantly.
i’ve run alot of fractals and this is definately the most help to your group, being able to kill dredge, bosses, ice eles etc fast helps the most.
problem is if you’re learning you can die alot and be a burden to you’re group, or if the rest of the party isn’t up to par dps wise you’ll take agro alot.
imo go full dps with pwr/prec/toughness gear/jewelry for learning, you can slot in mending, dolyak, fgj, and last slot for bolas/frenzy/sig of your choice, whithout dying too much.
but when you’re pro you go full dps. we don’t get barriers or anything, so trying to play a tank just diminishes your role as top dps.
best fractal groups are mes/war/war/guard/guard
all my spvp toons are the shortest, skinnest, asurans i can make them…with a small head at that.
it makes a huge diff.
for example i do about twice as good on average with my asuran glass warrior, than with a large charr.
still this isn’t something i see them changing in the future.
bout 40 runs 3x/4x dailys i got fractal GS, hammer, shield, and a dagger.
dagger, gs, sheild from 4x, hammer from a 2×.
considering fractal GS is about 50x rarer than a legendary atm, im not really inclined to work towards mine.
im biased now and prefer to keep them the way they are so i remain cool and unique in a video game.
race changes, gender changes, class changes…make em expensive if need be esp class change, but race/gender should be on par with makeover kits…
…also more skinned stuffed baby sentiant creatures to wear on my back!
yea, if only they gave some kind of warning before they locked us in servers…oh wait.
the myth that b2p games have a lower quaility than sub ones is a myth and in no situation an excuse. that being said, i think they’re doing a good job, though pvp needs a hard look….which takes time to sort out the actual issues from ppl just whinning.
thing is, any full dps warrior can survive well vs 2+ mobs because of omnom pies not having a cd on thier lifesteal, 80% crit, hitting 2+ mobs, and you regen alot.
i’ve been going 20/30/0/0/20 full dps in high fractals, and the dmg is obscene. 20k on final hb hit with constant 20+ stacks of might is 4k atk. if im landing hb’s dmg is probably 3x that of shout/heal/hammer spec, makes mobs die so much quicker. sadly i just feel like im stiffing the group when i go support, and honestly the best groups are dps ones, not dieing has so much more to do with knowing what your facing than any toughness/heals.
so recently i’ve been experimenting with a shout heal/hammer build for high lvl fractals and in dungeons. it performs well, 2089 heal per shout, 3 shouts roughly every 20 sec helps not only party members, but myself…2k+ toughness you have a pretty solid meatshield/support,it maintains mob attention quite well.
yet the hammer is a slow and unimpressive weapon, it does its cc, but falls miles behind in dps which is what i’ve always built my warrior for in the past, as much dps as i can fit in, while having enough survivability not to go down. i use foods/sigils to up my power to 3.2+k, but crit rate is just over 20% with fury going….much less than the 70+ im used to.
anyway aside from the pros and cons of the two styles i can’t shake the feeling im betraying my class role, which is damage, and im curious as to what others expect of the warriors in thier group. would you think ‘sigh a hammer warrior…what a waste of space’ or would you appreciate the times the extra cc/shout heals save party members and make encounters easier. the dmg is probably about 2/3’s of what i get on dps build even less if its a fight where you can be landing hb.
discuss.
(this is in general forums not warrior because i want opinions from people that don’t play warrior)
oh noes……..
wait, so when i log on i have to do stuff? grind!
theres gear that im not automatically given? treadmill!
what? you can’t use fractal relics to buy ascended amulets? im one of those that has two full bank sections full of ascended rings, was hoping for an exchange, crunch, breakdown system to be utilized… )=
its a very small stat increase over exotics, that fact that you can’t stand doing fractals or doing dailys even to earn them, kinda makes me feel you don’t deserve it.
you don’t want to ‘grind’ the ‘treadmill’ for items then don’t play video games. i mean really… you have to do stuff in game to obtain items in game or there’d be no point in logging on. having stuff for nothing doesn’t make any sense.
can i has your stuff?
So part of the patch notes include new and improved legendary effects!
I made a quick video showing the new shooting effect of The Dreamer legendary. If you have a legendary with new effects share your videos/screenshots showing the updates so everyone can see
http://youtu.be/pFEJWJ4XtCU?hd=1
Rainbow Unicorn!
Taste the rainbow, kittens!
the effect is very cool.
however, i believe the skittle catchphrase ‘taste the rainbow’ is a little outdated since the gay pride parade started using a rainbow flag…now its just too disturbing to think about.
yes, the missing fractal stat combos is completely unacceptable. not like its hard to throw in either.
make it happen devs.
thats abit extreme considering im on a 10gig monthly… =/
wait,,,you bought….2?! holy smokes, thats conclusive right there. totally not worth it.
i run 0/25/15/30/0 with full zerker, or knights depending on what im doing. shout heals, HoT from build up adrenaline, and good dps. soldier runes, fgj, sio, and frenzy usually though frenzy get swapped for the situation…ie.bolas, endure pain, on my mark, dolyak sig are the favs
edit: GS/rifle usually, but can swap GS, axe/axe for more melee, or axe/horn for mobility, lots of customisation…which is what really makes a good warrior, swaping traits and gear for what they’re doing without having to visit the retrainer.
you bring a glass war into spvp you’re good for the first game, then your just glory for ppl as soon as they realise your build. i eat glass thieves/wars etc…all the time for points, over and over….
i don’t play my war in spvp anymore, i use ranger.
greatsword or axe/axe and rifle, take the GS traits
if by fishing you mean killing more stuff underwater, count me in!
did you even read the patch notes?
30 laurels. Annoyed that I have to rework all my pieces again. For 1 single amulet.
30? So it takes a month to earn the amulet for 1 character. More grind.
are you serious?…oh wait i think you actually are.
yea, it should come free with the update along with everything else. since when did grind become akin to playing the game…
…really…

while people complain to the extreme its very important game developers realise, that under no circumstances should they cater to the casual player. instant gratification and lack of challenge will kill an mmo faster than anything.
fractals are fun because they’re hard, and get harder as you progress. how boring would they be if any crappy pug breezed through them, and you get all your fractal stuff.
i play with a yojak build, as a skirmisher/point capper, or support hammer/gs shout heal (low dps), or the HB insta-gib…all to mediocre success.
after a few matches of running away trying to survive or situationally stomping ppl i usually switch to ranger to start gettting some glory.
only good side about warrior is that if you learn spvp on it, and switch to any other class, the game gets much easier, and your are suddenly awesome.
your build is awefull and would definately warrent a kick.
you should search yojaks build for swd condition, helps the party alot, but still gives good dps, good mobility, survivability. switch out swd for axe if you want direct dmg, or if you want tankyness do a hammer shout heal build. you can also use yojaks trait setup with a gs for more dmg, or give up shout heals and go for pure dps. imo rifle is the better ranged wpn since most of the time you’ll be using it for direct dmg to bosses not for aoe.
pm me if you need any of the details for those builds.
ps. i’ve run swd/horn cond dps in 40+ fractals without issues, though i prefer GS/rifle dps, with shout heals, sacrificing gear with crit dmg for toughness as needed. (you’re generally wanted for dps)
imo the best ‘tank’ warrior is clr gear with hammer/X. you get toughness and 2k shout heals, with strong aoe CC. alternate wpn can be GS for dps, or rifle for range, or mace/shield for more blocking though hammer is already weak dps. we don’t have barriers, but the extra healing from shouts can really help you and the group.
as it is now, rangers are a must 40+. they can outrange harpies, the shortbow and pet are one of the fastest bubble breakers on shaman, toughness builds are common and with healing spring they not only survive but give health to allies, (fire seal on cliffside), the pet res ability for 40+ or boss battles etc etc…
if ppl don’t want rangers for fractals, they never played one, or had bad experiences with noob rangers in the past and think its the class, which only makes them a noob also.
you should be glad they post that, its a red flag for a bad group.
