Why does everyone hate Trahearne?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Here’s my opinion:

Arenanet attempted to weave the story together like a tapestry. Each player can only see their thread from beginning to end. Trahearne and the Player are co-stars, not something that players are used to (Take SWTOR, for example. In that one, it’s only you, you get the glory, the title, the victory, etc). In the end, the Pact Commander seems to be a close friend and ally to Trahearne, and, of course, the slayer of Zhaitan and friend of Destiny’s Edge.

Lore help (Potential story spoilers)

I’ll answer best I can:
1. Grenth and Kormir are both recent arrivals.
2. Yes, from what I can tell, the Gods used to live in Arah (Big city in Orr, Endgame Dungeon)
3. I’m not really sure. An alliance between the Dragons may be an interesting basis for an expansion though (Branded invading the Shiverpeak? Charr dealing with Destroyers?). Most likely, they just tolerate each other until one interferes.
4. The Pale Tree was planted by a human named Ronan. Ventari was, indeed, a Centaur. He and Ronan seemed to be allies tired of warring with each other. Ventari wrote the Tablet after Ronan died, I think.
5. I’m a little hazy on this as I didn’t play GW1, but from what I understand, she becomes the goddess of justice after you help her.
6. The Sylvari have all the same organs as a Human, but only because they were designed to mimic them. They cannot actually reproduce.
7. If you mean the one in Claw Island, the Plaguebearer, no. The Plaguebearer was a minion of Zhaitan.
8. After triggering the Searing in Ascalon, the Charr advanced on Kryta and Orr. They were driven back from Kryta (presumably by force of arms) but Orr was outmatched. To keep it out of enemy hands, Vizer Khilbron (misspelled?) destroyed and sunk Orr in what is known as the Cataclysm. It fell on top of Zhaitan, and when he woke up and rose to the surface, he took it with him.
9. Again, didn’t play GW1, but from what I can understand, The Flame Legion (something of a priest caste) worshipped the Titans to try and get an edge over the Humans. They eventually went renegade.

Multiple Ways to Acquire Legendaries

in Suggestions

Sorry if this has been brought up before, but I like this idea and I want to share it:

Now, I, personally, would be happy if the means to acquire Legendaries were different. But, others may get upset if they were downright changed. So, i’d suggest drawing on the element that makes it able to play through two of the same races and have different storylines: Options. Let’s take Sunrise as an example:

Prerequisite Weapon: In addition to combining four of the right kind of weapon exotic or higher, how about a one-player-only instanced area that combines elements of a jump puzzle with a series of battles. You might solve a puzzle to open a door leading to a few waves of various dragonspawn minions, leap across some floating rocks, have a showdown with a huge elemental, then reach a chest. In the chest, you would find three Legendary Artifacts. Take them and combine them with one Exotic of the kind of weapon you’d want, and you’d get either Dawn or Dusk. Assuming you get Dawn, we’ll move from there.

To get the Gift of Fortune, there would be several options. First is the current one. The Second is to find the four pieces of it scattered across Tyria and recreate them in the Forge. Third could be to climb a mountain, enter a hidden cave, and answer a series of challenging riddles. The possibilities are endless. The other gifts would be acquired in a series of appropriate means: Gift of Metal could be acquired through a hidden Deldrimor deposit deep in the Shiverpeaks. Gift of Light could be in a forgotten temple atop a mountain. The Runestones could be found in any number of ways, and the Sigil could be a drop from a hidden boss in Ascalon. The Gift of Mastery should be acquired by (obviously) proving your mastery of the game. It should involve elements from each aspect of GW2.

And that’s an example of my idea. Keep in mind that some acquisition methods would be altered to be more appropriate to the weapon. Feedback, anyone?

However, Primordus still had to make his army from scratch, and the creation of destroyers is slower (though how much slower is unknown) than branded or risen – which are more or less instantaneous (speed of making icebrood’s not entirely known, since we don’t see or read it happening outside failed attempts).

Being the first to awaken doesn’t mean much, and there’s little sign of Primordus beneath Ascalon (oddly enough), and the dwarves more or less sacrificed themselves rather than be defeated (it’s said they’re still fighting in the Depths of Tyria).

One could argue Primordus should have the biggest army, however Zhaitan had an entire nation’s worth of corpses when it woke up, and has been conscripting the fallen enemies (and possibly using the corpses of fallen risen to create the abominations – if not simply reanimating them), and unlike Primordus, both Jormag and Zhaitan didn’t have a race with an anti-you transformation spell combatting them, allowing easier spreading of minions and influence.

Truth be told, I think Jormag’s the one who’s the “strongest” (despite Zhaitan having been called such in the Movement of the World) – he’s been the one who’s outright harrasing the most races, some of which are known for their strength (norn), killed at least one, at most four, Spirits of the Wild (something never before done), and holds the easiest method outside Kralkatorrik for corrupting creatures (mental abilities vs making, physical, or waiting on corpses).

But I digress – point is, nothing really shows Primordus is outright stronger than the others (personally, I’d argue that of the four we know enough about, he’s the third strongest – beneath Zhaitan (2nd) and Jormag (1st) – but this is personal opinion).

First of all, I’d like to add that according to Honor of the Waves Story Mode, Icebrood-ification(?) is also instantaneous. The Kodan in the cutscene was basically flash-frozen. Anyway, as for next most powerful, I want to say it’s a toss-up between Kralkatorrik and Jormag. One one hand, Kralkatorrik crystallized a whole stretch of land from the Blood Legion Homelands to the Crystal Desert, as well as every living thing on that stretch, and can only be harmed by a spear fashioned from the crystal of it’s back.

On the other hand, Jormag drove the Norn, arguably the most powerful of the 5 races, into full retreat, killed several Spirits of the Wild, and all the Norn have is a Tooth that so far, not even Eir Stegalkin has been able to so much as crack.

So, I think Primordus is a runner-up in this sense, but only time will tell. If I had to guess, however, his power is roughly the same as the Deep Sea Dragon, who fashions it’s minions in a similar way to Primordus.

Charr should have been the main enemy. Undead are boring and repetitive.

I happen to find the Risen rather interesting. They are a fresh take on a relatively old genre: the Zombie Apocalypse. That genre has spawned thousands of games, TV shows, movies, and comic books, and yet this one seems to make them stand out. I don’t know why. Maybe because they serve an evil dragon who wants to conquer Tyria, maybe because they are on a once-sunken, barnacle-encrusted island.
I don’t know. However, nobody is making you stay in Orr. You could get relatively the same rewards in Fireheart Rise or the Iron Marches. Just remember not everyone shares your opinion, just like you don’t share mine.

Yeah, the Dredge are based on Communist Russia. Not surprising, as the Hylek appear to be Aztecs and the Centaurs represent the Native American tribes of old. Games will do this kind of thing.

Logan Thackeray: "Hodor hodor hodor!"

in Lore

Posted by: bionaknight.9210

bionaknight.9210

Not to be too blunt on the point, but is it just me or is Logan the dumbest member of Destiny’s Edge? Every time he speaks I hear “Hodor!”, and I’m pretty sure this isn’t a bug.

Just to be clear, I have no issues with him as a character, he’s well built and defined, just like the others.

He’s just dumb. The others in Destiny’s Edge have flaws for sure, big flaws, and watching them argue is like watching the world’s most dysfunctional family, but pretty much every reason they failed ties back to Logan. If Logan hadn’t left, Eir’s plan would have worked (and she wouldn’t sound like Eeyore all the time) , Snaff would still be alive, the Crystal Elder Dragon would be dead or severely weakened, Zojja wouldn’t hate everyone, and Rytlock wouldn’t want to disembowel Logan on sight (probably). The others are messed up, sure, but this all goes back to what Logan’s been in denial over for the past 5 someodd years. If he started yelling “Honor!” he’d be Prince Zuko.

P.S. Not meant to be a super serious post, just having some fun.

First off, let me just say one thing: Eeyore Stegalkin XD.

Anyway, yeah, Logan did act pretty dumb back then. When hindsight is applied, anyway. Remember, he’s only human (I mean this literally, lol), and he was in love with Queen Jennah. Jennah, a Mesmer, had put a spell on his mind, if you recall, so when she became in danger (attack by Branded Ogres seems to qualify) she naturally called on her champion. It’s no different, in principle, then an athlete who backs out of the game because his girlfriend’s house is on fire. Just a much larger scale then that.

Risen Lore. Collected from personal story.

in Lore

Posted by: bionaknight.9210

bionaknight.9210

This could be true, or it might not. We know from the higher level personal story missions that Zhaitan made new undead from corpses delivered (supposedly) from all over Tyria. He clearly doesn’t “recycle” slain Risen, or even thinking about liberating Orr would be impossible. It could be that he deployed the unfortunate “Orisenals” (get it?) to the front lines, where they were defeated by the Sylvari and Krytans. It could also be he deemed them unfit for zombification, and let them be.

So, I don’t know. Your theory does sound reasonable, though.

Also a good catch on the glowly blue vines, that’s definitely Slyvari.

Actually, if your referring to the blue lines on the gates in the camps, those would be Asuran. More specifically, designed by Arcanist Slizz (the NPC in the Antre of Adjournment jump puzzle, he explains that they are something of electric fences that repel undead). Additionally, to answer other questions, I am pretty sure that the Norn (and the Tengu) were set to work constructing armaments and armor, like Jeff said.

Hi, fellow Tyrians. This is a thread in which you can post your favorite lines from Guild Wars 2. It can be anything: Dialogue loop in a Town, Cutscene, Conversation, Battle Phrase, etc.

I’ll kick it off: I’d say one of the funniest lines my Norn says is when he catches fire: “FIRE BURNS!” I always wind up shouting at him: “WHAT DID YOU EXPECT, SILLY NORN!”

Feel free to jump in! Remember, it can be anything you want: funny, exciting, ironic, anything.

Why the Norn and Charr hate on the Clock Tower?

in Halloween Event

Posted by: bionaknight.9210

bionaknight.9210

Thank you for bringing this topic up, OP. As a fellow Norn, I’d like to toss in my two coppers.

I enjoyed the Clocktower even though I never beat it. I haven’t had that much fun falling to my death in years. During my times waiting to go again, I have seen many hateful things said towards the larger races of the game, Norns and Charrs. I wouldn’t call this racism as much as denial. In plenty of games, you’ll see people whining in PvP that a class is Overpowered. Reason being: they got demolished by a better player. They don’t think it was themselves, they think they’re better then that. They aren’t.
The Clockwork Tower is the same thing. People can’t bring themselves to say they were too bad to win it, so they blame the nearest thing in sight, in this case, the Charr and Norn Character Models.

As for me? Well, I gave up on the Tower and pursued the other Achievements instead, and now own all of them except for the Attend the Party one and (obviously) the Tower.

[Spoilers] ArenaNet "confirms" the fan theories about Elder Dragons?

in Lore

Posted by: bionaknight.9210

bionaknight.9210

I don’t believe that the Pale Tree is related in anyway to the Elder Dragons. the theory about the Tree being an actual Elder Dragon make little or no sense and leaves too many questions unanswered. For one, why would the Tree give Trahearne a legendary weapon (Calabog, wasn’t it?) when it knew that he could use it against the Tree after the other Dragons fell? Why give armaments to the Sylvari at all, when they could possibly rebel when they discover they were being used? Additionally, Sylvari seem much more intelligent then the Branded, Risen, Icebrood, and Destroyers. I’m sure when the tentacled minions of the Deep Sea Dragon (Tritons? Kraken monster boss fights?) arrive, they won’t be the sharpest sword in the armory either. Heck, the only exceptions I see to the Dumb Dragonspawn Principle are Morgus Lethe (of the book Destiny’s Edge) and the Mesmer from at least one of the “Cost of Victory” arcs. The odds of a whole race of intelligent Dragon Minions seems, well, unlikely at best.

In a nutshell, I’m going with the Pale Tree and Zone Green being a coincidence.

I had just gotten back from a DE to kill a giant Barracuda or something of the like in Claypool, and you guys probably know how the Addrenaline lines pop up while the level is dropping, right? Well, just as I walked past the Mayor of the town, my character said: “Urge to kill rising!” Funny, it’s how I feel whenever I speak to a Human NPC who says: “I’m rich, you know”.

Idea: Mounted Combat

in Suggestions

Posted by: bionaknight.9210

bionaknight.9210

Hey everyone, had an interesting idea: Mounted Combat! This would also see the introduction of horses to Tyria.

How would this occur, you may ask? In random zones would be special Tamed animals (Tamed Dolyak, Tamed Horse, etc) hanging around normally impassible dense forests and mountain passes. Once mounted, your weapon would switch to a special Mounted Weapon. There would be four kinds: Lance, Sword/Shield set, Rune, and Short Staff (A cross between a Scepter and a Staff, essentially). You would face mounted enemies, creatures, and monsters (think Centaurs. Centaur VS. Tyrian jousting match, anyone?). Any feedback?

Problem with ragdoll physics

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: bionaknight.9210

bionaknight.9210

Hi everyone. So, most of us know this game has ragdoll physics (basically, it means if you kill an enemy or die yourself, the body actually goes limp as it falls. Makes it much more realistic), and I’ve seen it in action. But as a Greatsword/Rifle Warrior, all my foes with the option of ragdoll physics (Oakhearts, Charr, Ogres, and a few others will either fall on their back or fall on their face. Oakhearts just fall on their face) will always fall face down. This doesn’t hamper looting or block progress, but it’s been around for, I don’t know, I guess over a month. It also is beginning to break my immersion when I see 15 dead Risen all flat on their face. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
