why do all these guilds want 21+ these days..what ever happened to being 18+ sucks to be young some times lol

Because, at the end of the day, some gamers feel more comfortable knowing they are gaming with people who have reached a certain stage in life, before they will open up and talk to them. And, in a group that’s heavily based around community like ours, talking to each other is a pretty big deal. On the flip side of the coin, some gamers don’t want to be hearing from gamers under 21, talking about issues that, to older folks, just aren’t issues at all and seem quite ridiculous, like being grounded, having too much homework, etc.

In short, we feel that younger people are better off mixing with their peers, who are going to share more common interests, and be facing the same issues in their stage of life, than trying to integrate with a group of people in their 30s, 40s, 50s and even 60s in our group.

My feeling is that if they want to make some “Big Bad” for people to kill as a one-off… fine… but don’t hand out stupidly over the top rewards for it.

Let the act of killing the Big Bad, and “being there” be the actual reward.

Otherwise we’re left with this situation where people are showing off great loot and, how did they get it? Did they do something skillful? Are they better GW2 gamers than me? Well… no… it just means they showed up at a time I couldn’t.

And that’s a POOR reason to get great loot.

And not just a reward, but a fairly substantial reward. Forget the exotics and most of the stuff, I would have loved to get a 20 slot bag and save 2 gold in the process…!

I wished Anet had a little note on game product that warns potential buyers that even though the game is sold to oceanic regions, however the monthly events occur right in the middle of oceanic sleeptime!

It’s like they don’t even realise there are different timezones in the world. I have this image of someone sitting there thinking whatever time it is in North America is a “great” time for everyone else as well, even though the later you go on a North American Sunday, some Oceanic people are already up and at work on their MONDAY.

Doing this stuff multiple times, but limiting the loot to a one-off is a great suggestion. I have said as much in another thread, myself.

Because this current environment can’t be allowed to continue. It’s totally discriminatory against people in Australia, for one example, where it’s already Monday morning if you’re doing something later on a Sunday in the US.

And, not even that, when not even people in the “right” timezone get to do it, clearly there needs to be a better way. For a game which was meant to pride itself on being customer-centric, it’s been doing all it can to annoy customers for months now.

Remember that frog NPC in Metrica which took weeks… WEEKS… to fix? Aye carumba. What sort of customer services was that?

Really annoyed at ANet right now and I’m supposed to be a fanboi…!!!

Suggestion for future "one time only events"

in Suggestions

Posted by: blur.7918

blur.7918

We never had this trouble in GW1. Whoever’s organising it in GW2 must not have played GW1, otherwise they have a perfect template to be copying events from.

Instead, we’re getting events that not even people in the right timezone can do, let alone people in other parts of the world — like Australia — which are ahead of the US time-wise. As a result, we’re in bed, or even starting our Monday at work, when this stuff is happening.

What sort of planning is that?!?

At least doing it at that time on a Saturday would mean Aussies had a shot at even being around, on our Sunday, to have a go at it — even it it was a stupid time of the day.

Just incredible, how badly this stuff has been organised…!!!

How One-Time Events SHOULD be Conducted

blur.7918

Here is how ANET should handle one time events: Fire the person who suggests it, hire someone who will work on something that everyone can take part in.

Sad to say, but you are 110% right.

Whoever is organising this stuff has no idea how to treat a global audience.

(And, it would be fair to say, never played GW1 where this stuff wasn’t an issue…!!!)

blur.7918

I completely agree with you.

It seems that whoever’s in charge of this stuff at ANet doesn’t realise large chunks of the southern hemisphere are ahead of North America, time wise.

So, ANet, when you organise something for later on a Sunday, people in Australia (for one example), are already in bed. Infact, if it’s particularly late on a Sunday, they’re already sitting at their desk, at work, on Monday.

A guildmate described the loot to me, thus: “We got a new accessory that was leagues better than anything I had on (which you can buy from a vendor but it costs 1,000 shells) and a free 20-slot bag in addition to two random (special) rares and two random (special) exotics.”

Do you think I, and other Aussies, would have liked a shot at that, ANet?

I understand the desire to do one-off events. But if you’re going to toss out good loot, why tie it to the one-off event that not everyone can get to? Still do the one-off event, and let the fact people got to do it be “the reward”. Leave the good loot to activities that EVERYONE can have a shot at. This isn’t rocket science.

And, if the loot is particularly good, make it so people can’t repeat/farm the tasks.

Simple.

PS: I remember how events were handled in GW1 as well. That worked well. Why on Earth you’ve taken this severe turn away from that, I have no idea?!?

blur.7918

Isn’t the ascended armour just to provide -x% ridiculous un-removable debuff damage in the new dungeon?

To a large degree, yes. For some, they’ll want it just because it’s different. However, putting all of that aside, who at Level 80 won’t be wanting to run that new dungeon? You have to assume that more Level 80s than not, will want to run it. And, taking that as our premise, that means “most” Level 80s are now facing a gear grind that, once upon a time, was not what GW2 was supposed to be about. And we’re only 3 months in.

That’s the problem…!

Why are you catering to the gear grind crowd?

in Suggestions

Posted by: blur.7918

blur.7918

That could happen too, Nox Aeterna, yes.

But I just don’t understand why the basic premise of GW2 (namely that it wasn’t designed to be a gear grind because, without a sub, it doesn’t have to be one), has now been subverted and, within a few months of launch, there’s a new tier of armour with higher stats. I could barely believe I was reading about it.

It’s a massive mistake. And, if it continues with more armour in the future, will cause major issues among the playerbase.

Or does ANet need to see destruction and unhappiness happen firsthand in the community before they’ll believe a post like this?

Lion’s Arch Irregulars
www.lionsarch.org

Why are you catering to the gear grind crowd?

in Suggestions

Posted by: blur.7918

blur.7918

A really simple question here:

Why are you now catering to the gear grind crowd, via the new Ascended armour?

Aside from the fact that this is the whole reason I was excited about GW2, ie: the grind at Level 80 was cosmetic, not to stay competitive, do you not realise that the gear grind crowd is the most fickle crowd of people to deal with in gaming?

ie: You can cater to their every whim, but they’ll still drop you, like a hot potato, when they find “the next big thing”. Meanwhile, you will have lost all the people who were here for the game, and the lore, and not because it was just a break from WoW.

You’re going down the wrong path, bigtime, ANet :-/

The main thing to remember is that, the more desperately a guild chases you, the more it’s likely that they are greedy for the fact you’re a group of people. Guilds that are greedy for multiple people are often (not always, but often), the kind of guilds which are going for numbers over quality. be sure to watch for that in their approaches to you

It also divided perfectly into 4 6man groups for dungeons, now at this time in my life Im not looking for something quite so structured, but I have never liked the huge invite everyone till we have 500 players type guilds. I like to know everyone, and even in the 24man guild we werent all necessarily friends, some of us were downright adversaries, but we knew each other.

Quite right, which is why we have a member cap of 100.

When you divide 100 between NA, ANZ, EU, Asia, etc, like we do, you end up having 20-40 “main” people you see all the time.

I totally hear you on having a small feel where you can get to know everyone via the forum (we are waaaaaay into forum use), and a good 20-40 people in game at your time, too.

With regard to Ventrilo, you’d never be “made” to use it, but I think you’d soon find that, when doing WvWvW or running a dungeon, to not be able to at least hear instructions by voice would put you at a massive disadvantage.

And, like I said in the OP, the ability to buy these things doesn’t mean the person’s a good leader anyway.

I find the whole thing a bit flawed.

The concept of WvWvW commanders isn’t one I’m down with in general, ie: if someone pulls together 100 gold, they get a commander icon above their head, and start trying to tell everyone else what to do in WvWvW, even though gathering 100 gold isn’t /any/ indication that someone’s good at leading others. But, what the heck, I live with it.

What is really starting to annoy me, however, is commanders using their icon outside of WvWvW. Why? It seems to me that the icon is being used as a status symbol in PvE, towns, etc, where it plays absolutely no function. I, for one, would appreciate the icon being usable in WvWvW situations only. After all, that’s what it’s designed for, right?

Read up on us, we might appeal.

But, in short, you aren’t expected to show up to anything, unless you’ve “signed up” for it on our forum, eg: if someone says, “Let’s do a dungeon on Thursday night at 7pm…” and you say OK, and are one of the five people scheduled to go, yeah, people would be annoyed if you don’t show up! But presumably you wouldn’t sign up to an event if you couldn’t go.

In other areas, like the mass WvWvW sessions we do on Friday and Saturday nights (US time), anyone’s welcome to show; but no one’s expected. We get about 20-30 people on Ventrilo for those (on average).

Anyway… take a look. We also don’t care what level you are, or what gear you’re running. We find guilds that do care about that stuff to be pretty… weird.
