Clarification: Snowball Mayhem & Groups

in A Very Merry Wintersday

So, Anet is spending their time shoving out mediocre and repeated content twice a month instead of focusing on quality content like creating different servers for PVP games like Snowball Mayhem—one where players can join as groups and one where users can join as individuals. It’s ridiculous all these games that come out and we can’t play with our friends and family, and there hasn’t even been an attempt to remedy it.

I hate arenas in this game and I hate WvWvW, but things like Snowball Mayhem and the labyrinth PVP game during Halloween are the only PVP I really enjoy in this game and I have to play it completely alone…during the holidays.

Clock Tower instancing... wtf?

You can’t parade around in your fancy holiday-inspired town clothes. You can’t place Boxes o’Fun and play around with people while we wait for our turns. You can’t join with friends and hang out with them while waiting.

Everything that was fun was stripped from this Clock Tower. It’s depressing.

Clock Tower instancing... wtf?

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: coffeeisyum.5297

coffeeisyum.5297

It was funner last year when the whole instancing meant that we would all start together and fail because we were all jumping at the same time (though that also made it more fun). Now the waiting is stupid and pointless since we’re basically waiting to jump by ourselves since others are almost non-existent.

Can you please tell me what the point in buying town clothes is? I bought the Mad King costume, Witch’s costume, and the Christmas dress costume last year for my character and the ONLY place I had to show them off was in the pre-jumping puzzle area while we waited. All these costumes have been sitting around waiting to be worn again, and they’ll continue to sit in my bank apparently. No one will be dressed up, no one will be playing with Boxes o’Fun, we’ll just all stand around waiting to do the jumping puzzle in our boring PVP armor.

I know complaints spread like wildfire about the difficulty of the jumping puzzle last year, but to make it a PVP instance where we all wear the same boring armor and are wisps while playing sort of takes away the community fun we had last year. Why not make an easier instance for some people with the wisps?

The wisps aren’t even really the problem, but making it a PVP instance so we can’t join with FRIENDS? Why would you do this? What point is there? For a game that caters playing with others and for a game that lets you practically create your armor however you want—these things are both stripped in the puzzle.

I spent hours and days just doing the jumping puzzle with my BF because we thought it was fun and challenging to do together. But now I won’t even be touching it.

The one thing that constantly makes me fall out of GW2 is after a few interesting living stories (some much more boring than others), I fall out of GW2 because I just don’t know what to do next. Some people blame it on lack of end-game content. Maybe that’s the reason. I don’t know.

I crafted everything to 400, got some awesome gear, I do some achieves here and there but I don’t have any real drive for the game after the fun fluff is gone from certain fun events (and I’ve been “playing” since beta). But please, please, please keep bringing us some challenging content. Give me a reason to want good gear. Give me a reason to NOT want to fail at something instead of just assuming that I shouldn’t from the get-go. Give me a reason to want to communicate with other people on my server.

Overflow is not “stupid” it’s there for a reason. Just stay in the zone so you get queued and wait until you get ported to your original server.

In my day we had to wait 2 hours in queue just to get LOGGED into World of Warcraft and we liked it!

coffeeisyum.5297

Quark, how do I lose credibility? Because I like challenging content I should be some sort of masochist? lol ok.

How about let’s respect each others opinions of SAB? If you found SAB fun, then please express your opinion about the game, not the player who didn’t like it. I’m not complaining that I wasn’t able to do it. I finished it with only myself and my BF, fewer people than the recommended amount. So the difficulty was self-inflicted, but that’s beside the point. Because I like challenging content I should enjoy each death? I should cherish the tedious amount of time it takes me to jump from point A to point B? You’re missing the entire point of my post. It’s not about not being able to do it it’s about not having fun while doing it.

I didn’t “blast past” the assassins. Many people had trouble with the knock-backs so I don’t know why you’re trying to blame it on the player. It took me two swings to kill them, which was more than enough time to suffer a knock-back. I also typed out in another thread interesting combat ideas that the enemies in SAB can have to make combat more fun and engaging instead of ALL of them inflicting knock-backs on the players.

I didn’t spend enough time looking? Maybe I didn’t. I remember exploring everything in World 1 but the entire time playing World 2 the only thought I had in my head was “can I jump here? should i jump here? is it worth the risk?” And because the ENTIRE zone is nothing but jumping those thoughts can get tedious. There’s very little to explore.

I don’t think most people would have an issue with World 2 if it it were a different dungeon or mini-game or whatever. But coming from World 1, it’s not the same. This is the type of content where “learning curve” as you put it isn’t all that’s important. It doesn’t seem like a throw-back to old games anymore, it seems like a long drawn-out and boring jumping puzzle that takes over an hour to complete.

Since Josh seems to be reading this forum:

World 1: Everything was fun. Everything. Even death—jumping into the middle of the flowers, or getting stuck in the weeds (which could be destroyed with fire), or falling into acid and desperately trying to get to a rock so I don’t die. The dancing spiders were silly and fun. Avoiding acid. The labyrinth in Zone 1 (the second one is fun too, i forget which zone it was in though)! My BF loved to watch me struggle from the top as I tried to get out. Every group I was in would frantically run around trying to get out of that thing, and it was funny to keep running into each other because we were going around in circles. Each zone was memorable with a healthy dose of shops to keep us excited about new weapons we could get and hidden areas that you could find if you explored. My deaths were memorable, not random.

World 2: Seriously, 2 lives? I felt like I spent more time getting sent to the lava, then the hub, then the loading screen as I re-enter the game than I did actually playing. The only thing I did enjoy was the Q-bert area, the darts, and the slippery ice. Yes, I actually did like the darts, I thought it was fun to make you slow down and if you didn’t, then your death was your own fault. The only issue people most likely had with the darts is the environment makes you rush, so the ‘slowing down’ just seems pointless and unnecessary at times. Especially with all the jumping. I love challenging jumping, but it is really unnecessary to make us jump EVERYWHERE!! How about some explorable areas we can walk around and when we DO have to jump, it’s a challenging stop for a moment and pay attention because it’s about to get serious type jump. I think having to jump anywhere and everywhere made people struggle with the whole stop and think for a moment.

The ninjas were annoying with the knock-backs and I rarely stood a chance with my stupid stick. I spent half the time just wanting to get out of those little dojos which brings another point to the environment. The little designs were neat, but the overall zone was just not memorable or exciting. It was chaotic and just various platforms which kept the group separated and struggling.

Why make ALL the enemies do stupid knock-backs? Can we have more interesting combat. Can’t the ninjas stun you for a few seconds while you frantically hope it breaks before you die? Can’t the polar bears freeze certain areas and if you don’t move fast enough you get stuck to the ground? Or if you freeze, a teammate has to come and knock you out? Just ANYTHING other than constant stupid annoying knock backs EVERYWHERE.

Zone 3 was not fun. I enjoyed the slippery ice, I thought it was fun watching people slip around and having to attempt to gain traction but everything else was boring and tedious. I completed it and nothing was memorable at all like World 1. It was just a bunch of jumping, rock, and ice with a wind pushes, portals, and enemies thrown in. Again, we do NOT need to jump anywhere and everywhere.

World 3: Haven’t tried it.

I had no idea the creator formally apologized. I was actually trying to figure out if they changed designers from World 1 to World 2 because it was just so dramatically different.

I don’t want people to think I’m complaining about a challenge. I really love challenge and it’s the reason I enjoy GW2 so much, but World 2 just wasn’t a fun challenge. It was pure work. World 1 was so much fun. I remember jumping into the middle of the flowers and thinking “okay, don’t need to do that again!” Or the leaf area and falling into the acid, I remember squealing and jumping anxiously to a rock in hopes I wouldn’t die (more often than not, I died). But World 2 was just not fun.

I will try World 3 just to see what it’s about!

I love challenging content. I have never complained about anything Anet has added to them game content-wise when others have complained about difficulty. Even the Halloween jumping puzzle, I spent all day working on it and LOVED it. I don’t care about achievements, so I am never concerned about ability to do something, just about how much fun it is to actually do.

But this? It’s ridiculous. I don’t understand why World 1 was so much fun and World 2 is so frustrating. Ninjas are knocking me off anywhere and everywhere before I even have a chance. I thought the darts were fun, because I’d forget to slow down and run right into them. THAT was fun and challenging. But the ninja knock-backs were just frustrating especially when there were no shops to upgrade our sticks so we actually stood a chance before getting knocked around.

Then Zone 3? Such poor execution. I thought the slippery ice was fun, but half the time I was randomly jumping around huge structures that barely even protruded from the rocks. Do this for about 10 minutes, then kill a few things, then randomly jump on small protruding cliffs again for another 10 minutes. This is not fun and challenging jumping. It’s just tedious jumping. And half the time I thought there were secret areas and I would risk jumping for a few minutes thinking it was a secret area only to end up at a dead-end and have to turn around in an attempt to get back. Why would you even do this to people? The environment and layout was just boring. Rocks and Ice. Rocks and more ice. The only thing I enjoyed was the Q-bert area.

Then the end boss! The fight was fun but why…WHY would you make the boss reset if everyone in the party happens to die? My BF and I spent more time trying to prevent us from both being dead at the same time than we did actually fighting the boss. We kept looking over at each others screen more than our own. It didn’t help that the lightning sparks were constantly knocking us off. Can you please come up with interesting combat instead of resorting to all enemies having knock-back? It seems lazy.

I think the worst part is that we only have 2 lives now. I feel like I spent more time getting sent to the lava area, then having to click the hub icon, then having to re-enter the world than I did actually playing. Every death was not about learning what I needed to do next, or challenging, or “LOL oops, didn’t see that gap!” but one step closer to having to be sent out of the zone then back in. Decreasing lives seemed like either an easy way to get people to buy the infinite coin or just a cheap way to make the content “appear” more challenging.

I don’t understand how dramatically different World 1 and World 2 are and I’m not sure if I’m going to even waste my time attempting World 3 this weekend.

It’s been a while since I’ve dedicated my time to an MMO, so I feel a little lost with crafting sometimes. I reached 400 in armorsmithing quite a while ago and have played around with it since then, but I have no idea what kind of utility having 400 in armorsmithing has.

I basically found the exotic gear I thought looked nice and had good stats and made it. Is that really the point in reaching 400 is just to be able to make exotics you want? Is there any other point that I’m missing? It seems all the ascended/legendaries are created by using the forge.

Actually, WoW did it.

My previous response can be applied to yours as well. I don’t see “day/night” actually being truly enjoyed as a day/night cycle because it’s not an accurate representation of day/night. You log on and it’s “light” but is it morning? afternoon? evening? I understand it’s a preference thing, but that’s just my representation of it. It’s more of a light/dark cycle than day/night. I really enjoy it in other MMO’s and wish it could be brought to GW2.

It doesn’t need to be synchronized to the specific hour. I think you’re missing the point I’m making about morning/afternoon/evening/night that should be reflected instead of a random light, dark, light, dark that occurs I don’t even know how often.

It’s not about sever time reflecting each hour, that would be crazy. I just mean the phases of the day that we experience roughly the same time…no matter what time zone you live in.

I didn’t mean that it should only be Americanized, just that the American servers would function with the American time-zones and the European servers have their own time-zones.

I guess I can understand for people who can only play night be able to experience night, but do those people really enjoy the day/night cycle (rather light/dark cycle) anyways? Seems like the day/night cycle can’t really be appreciated as it stands when it’s light one minute then dark the next without any real inclination of it being a day/night cycle (as in morning, afternoon, evening, night) which real-time experience would achieve.

If the actual cycle reflected more accurately the time we would actually know when it’s morning or afternoon or evening. Instead, the cycles feel like they change on a whim and is more of a “light” and “dark” cycle than a day/night cycle.

Why doesn’t the day/night cycle in the game actually sync with day/night for the American servers. It’s weird logging in on a morning and it being night, or logging in at night and it being day outside. I think it would be nice to see the day/night cycle with the actual day…it getting brighter as morning disappears into the evening and when night comes around it gets darker.

That being said, deleting the folder has nearly no downside, so if you’re desperate, give it a try. Instructions here.

Thank you so much for posting those instructions. My TP hasn’t worked for 7 months and I just assumed it was a bug that needed to be fixed. I tried this and it worked!! TP now works after 7 months of it closing the entire client when I would click it.

To the OP, did you pay for my account? Well did you? I don’t think so. Just because you done dungeons and stuff, does that mean we ALL have to play the way you do?

I, meaning ME, paid MY 60$ not yours for MY game. I want MY 60$ worth, I don’t know about you.

This about sums up the mentality of the people kittening and moaning. They want the game a certain way and because it’s not that way all hell will break lose letting everyone know how they think it should be.

I appreciate the constructive criticisms from the few people who actually did read my OP and understand the point of it. The one-time event should be looked at as an optional and extra way to play in the game. Similar to JP and mini-games. Anet is adding as much variety as they possibly can to this game and that’s why I hope one-time events will be something implemented more often (after the bugs/quality issues are fixed).

I do not see the point in taking something away from a game that is purely OPTIONAL. If you don’t want to do this, similar to mini-games, map completions, vistas, jumping puzzles, etc., then you don’t have to. But it’s something extra that people can get together as a community and do to take away from the quest grind.

After reading a few of the above posts. I do not understand why not getting loot at the end of an event will make people stop complaining. Just look at the MK jumping puzzle. I was disappointed with the loot, but had fun and was OK with that. The loot was bad because Anet apparently knew people would complain if the end-loot was good…guess what? People STILL complained.

There needs to be a stop to these stop Fanboy/Obvious Anet Employee posts. It is distracting us from explaining to Arena that these sort of shenanigans are not acceptable and if they continue to do this everyone will leave for the next new shiny game, and will take all their shiny dollars with them.

So, basically people who agree with you are the mass opinion of players. The people who disagree with you must be Anet fanboy or employees? kitten LOGIC and the fact that people have different opinions from you.

People are not even reading my OP and are apparently just copy/pasting how much they hate the event from other threads. I’ve stated numerous times that there are issues in the event that need to be addressed and I realize this (D/C issues, lag). I am posting about the people who think one-time events are “unfair” because they are ONE TIME. Owyn—-Read the OP before posting. I stated very clearly in the original post that “it is important for Anet to receive feedback about the event for quality purposes.” No one is arguing that. I stated that complaining INSTEAD about the unfairness of one-time events and how they should be dropped from the game is ridiculous.

and people who were at the event and got dc multiple times? stop complaning? really? so ppl who did the event up to 4 times and got dc every single time have no right to complain?………….get ur head out of your bum. k

also ps the event did give loot tht is unattainable elsewhere. hmm the 20slot specific badge and the amulet. that is a mini Triforge pendant…..k….

WOW. Seriously people read the OP. I said that I understand people who complain from DC issues. WTF.

Also, many of us interpreted the manifesto and pre-game announcements as an indication that the game would avoid random rich drops, moving instead to a token system. This principle is not really being implemented.

What does this even mean? I’ve followed GW2 before it released and I have no idea what you’re talking about. Do you mean random rich drops that you can get doing a dungeon? Or killing a champion who’s guarding a chest?

Why is everyone complaining about The Lost Shores event? I more than understand frustration caused by lag or disconnect problems and issues with looting. Perfectly good reason to complain. Also, constructive criticism about the actual event will be helpful in assuring quality for future events. Constructive criticism = good.

But I’m hearing so much rage about one-time events and how unfair they are. Before the event was over people were raging about the event The one-time events will happen again, so what if real-life got in the way? You realize you can go do a dungeon and get the same quality of loot for the time spent in the one-time event, right?

I have work. I missed the first two events. A few of my good friends missed the Sunday one. Guess what we did that night? We got on and did fractals. No one complained. No one raged. We all missed events and we’re OK with that and excited about possible future ones.

One-time events are NOT unfair. They are NOT mandatory. They do NOT give loot that you can’t get elsewhere. They do NOT give an achievement. They are NOT responsible for your choosing real life over a game.

I enjoy the one-time events. In fact, they have brought me back to GW2 multiple times after falling out of it. They just need to be executed a little better.

Really, and people who think that they just shouldn’t happen period are stupid. Don’t play them. Go do a dungeon instead if you want the same monotony that exists in EVERY OTHER MMO. Seriously, you’ll get about the same reward for the time spent.

I think it’s funny that before even one-time events are over people are jumping on the forums flaming them. Some players just want anything to complain about, especially when it takes them out of their comfort zone from years of other-MMO playing.

I appreciate that Anet is making the game feel alive and bringing players together with these one-time events.

I decided to play with the gamma slider in graphics even though I have no idea what this does exactly, but it seemed to brighten areas up. The main problem I have is that when I minimized the screen it always reverts back. So, I have to constantly re-adjust the gamma.

I don’t know if it’s because I’m on a retina screen, but I wish the blacks would lighten up in color and stay.

You can argue that they shouldn’t feel that way, but the fact of the matter is that they do, and trying to debate how people should or shouldn’t feel isn’t going to go anywhere. I don’t see anything wrong with the devs being sensitive to that. I applaud them for it, as long as they don’t take it too far, and make the whole game too easy, and that sort of thing.

If they decided not to do content like that at all anymore, that would be terrible, but that’s not what he was saying.

I disagree. I did not like that one mini-game with the pumpkins. Something rumble? I played it once and hated it, and…I left and found something I did enjoy. I agree that maybe the Clock Tower shouldn’t have been tied to an achievement because some people may not enjoy that type of gameplay. Or there could be an “easy” mode or “hard” mode.

Just trying to say that I agreed with what Foreman said. Not that I think he should feel bad, but the lesson he took from all the frustration is the right one. Difficult is good, and its great that he plans to keep making content like that. Holiday events just aren’t the best place for it.

This I just don’t understand. I mean, I do understand that players shouldn’t be “frustrated” during holiday events…but this is a GAME. Game should invoke challenge and frustration is a by-product of challenge. There were NUMEROUS other seasonal events to do—so what’s so bad about an extra challenge for the players that want it? They didn’t even give good loot at the end!! Seriously, I deleted what I spent 5 hours trying to get. But it was 5 hours of fun I had even if it was difficult.

I imagine the next holiday and what the events will be like if they decide to take away difficulty. You know what I see? A bunch of grinding. The only other thing that wasn’t grinding is PVP, which just isn’t for some players including myself (see how no one complains about seasonal PVP because some like it, some don’t. If you don’t like it, don’t play it).

So would you rather have a jumping puzzle that takes 20 minutes to complete so you can go back to grinding a dungeon?

I didn’t HAVE to do it. It just amazes me that people are complaining about something not even permanent being “too hard.” When did games become nothing more than facerolls? I guess I can blame facebook.

Clocktower Appreciation Thread

It really bothered me to read that in the other thread. I guess the player’s moaning finally beat him down. I really thought Anet was intentionally taking the gameplay away from grind by implementing a challenging albeit time-consuming jumping puzzle. But to hear that things will be dumbed down YET AGAIN in this game just bothers me.

No, I do not want to go farm the Labyrinth. No, MK was not fun after my 10th run. No, I do not want to go run dungeon after dungeon hoping for good loot. No, I do not want to run around carving pumpkins for over 5 hours. Sure, I don’t mind doing those things (and I did) but I didn’t complain—nor did anyone else for that matter. We just did it, because that’s what an MMORPG is. It’s a grind.

And yet, The Mad King’s Clock Tower is really all I had that I found challenging and just pure fun other than the PVP style mini-games, which were pretty fun but not exactly addicting the way I found the Mad Clock Tower. But hey, people want to be able to jump up a few blocks and get an achievement so we better give it to them before they complain that GAMEZ 2 HARD!!1

Post here if you GAVE UP on the Clocktower!

@Josh

It really bothers me to hear that the jumping puzzle was a mistake and that in the future these types of things won’t be implemented. What about all the people who contently have fun and move on? The complaining is ALWAYS loudest.

The jumping puzzle was the most fun I’ve had in this game period. Mainly because while other jumping puzzles are fun, this one you could do with other players, and you were practically racing to the top and watching other people fail just as badly as you. I spent 10 hours playing this puzzle, even after beating it on my 5th hour. My boyfriend was addicted! I couldn’t even get him to run MK with me…he said he’d rather have fun than grind. He also met a lot of very funny and entertaining people.

People complain this was too hard, which just means too time-consuming. But these same people will go out and farm for HOURS and HOURS. I thought ANET was being a game changer by making a jumping puzzle—this seasonal achievement—actually challenging, but to hear it was a mistake and not the intent all along is disheartening.

It’s not a feeling of “yes I did it!” for a lot of people. It’s a feeling of “ugh that’s finally over.” This is not how you want a lot of people to feel.

Are you kidding me? If this is honestly how you feel then that is you bringing a wrong expectation to this game and wanting to complete things simply for an achievement. If you’re doing the jumping puzzle for a challenge, for something fun, to see if you can do it, etc, then you WILL be elated when you reach the end. If you’re just wanting an achievement then yes, after a few hours and finally getting it you will say “finally this is over.” But expect to do that with everything else in the game.

Anet is making this game unlike the others. If you want to farm achievement after achievement then go find another game.

Also make sure you hold down your right-mouse button which is the camera angle button. Hold this button down while you’re doing the jumping puzzle so you can follow your character better.

People miss the point that part of the difficulty is having so many people jumping at once—this is MADE to make it difficult, and if you can make the first couple of jumps most people will die and it’ll just be you and maybe one other.

So just learn where to jump, instead of finding a place to jump. Teach yourself that it’s safe to jump a little over because even though there are a bunch of people in your way you KNOW there is a block there.

Thank you! Funniest event ever: Clocktower [Merged]

It’s all about JUMPING. It’s not so much about seeing where you’re jumping as knowing how far to jump and where to land. Once you do it for a while and you get into the groove of knowing how far you need to jump.

I played Beer Brawl the other day and the other team kept cursing me out for no reason at all. I hated that team. But I moved on. I didn’t feel the need to make a thread about it.

Instead, I played more and got better.

4 hours to just do some lame kitten jumping.. Not worth the time..

I don’t know what is more shocking, the high rate of failure or the amount of time some people sat solely at this puzzle.

So, what should they be doing instead than spending all the time doing the puzzle? Please enlighten me. Should we be running dungeons? Should we be grinding in the Labyrinth? I was more than happy to spend my entire night partying with others who were attempting the jumping puzzle. I’ve completed it but I plan on going back tonight because I had so much fun.
