1v1 is meaningless and abused by stealth and tailored 1v1 builds. In Teamfights Necro should always be first target to focus down, because he has no escapes, no stability and is therefor easily shut down. You can still play successfully if you and your team knows this and you play accordingly. Downstate is also the most useless of all classes.

As former P/P Pistolero, i’m looking for a new build to play in WvW and PvP simply for fun. If possible i want to play without much stealth, but want to be as annoying as possible to fight. I was thinking of something in the lines of Interrupts and Evades and some burst inbetween. Maybe S/P?. I haven’t played in months and i am pretty terribad rightnow, so please show me ideas that could work.

If i had to level up again, i would use a Minion build. It’s easy, powerful and you can solo everything on the way, even champion mobs with relative ease.

Weapon: Staff, 2nd Weapon set whatever you prefer
Skills: Signet of the Locust for runspeed, Shadow fiend, Bone Fiend, Elite: Flesh Golem

Traits: start with Death Magic, then Blood Magic, 3rd Traitline whatever you prefer

Easy powerhouse and you will never die.

Ok my personal view on Necro WvW since patch:

1 v 1: 30/30/10 works great vs average players in 1v1.

1 vs. 2 or more: not so much, not even vs average players because 1-2 knockdowns, fears, stuns can ruin your day.

Another downside are the available rune and foodbuff combinations. For example Melandru + Lemongrass combined with strong anti condition- or CC builds will have you running or downed in notime. In the future i can see Guardians, Eles, Warriors (yes Warriors!), maybe even Engineers as strongest counters 1v1, even before Mesmers and Thieves.

As for the threadstarter who plays a thief: Rightnow, many Thieves are still using Lyssa which you can easily bait for. Your best bet is being specced into shadow arts and to get rid of Necro Lifeforce in an attrition fight for an easy kill.

Then you haven’t played Necromancer enough if you don’t think that either CC is too good or other heals are too bad.

Sigh, I shouldn’t – but ok, i’m biting.

Sorrow, it’s more like you havn’t played the other professions enough. You seem pretty clueless and should look at other professions ability to sustain and upkeep via heal abilities. Then you should come back and conclude, how consume conditions is OP.

Btw, the Bloodfiend has been buffed and is more then viable as heal for MM builds. Talking PVE, since MM is kinda silly in PvP or WvW. But that is another matter entirely.

How are you not glad, that we are slowly moving away from the horrid bunker meta? Those immortal builds have finally been introduced to a counter, now everyone is crying about it? PvP should be about killing too, not just kiting 2-3 people forever over a node till help arrives. If the new Necro can accomplish that shift, we are on the right way.

That said about PvP, i would like everyone who is crying for Necro nerfs play a Condition Necro in WvW vs Players who use Melandru with Lemongrass. Or Play a Necro in PvE trying to compete in damage with other classes which are not capped thanks to Bleed Stacks. Ok, still crying for nerfs? No? Thought so!

Same Situation for us Kodashians, Magnetron. This morning Elona ran down all Maps as usual with 50 players and 10 golems vs handful defenders. Kinda boring to play offtimes vs. Elona masses, but what can you do.

feat. Dumbfire w. Terror, Condition Spam with Rabid / Carrion Mix.

Upside: Forced condition spam is hard to recover from. Build does NOT rely on Terror damage or gimmiky spectral wall tho! Corrupt Boon gets switched out for Epidemic vs x. It’s a lazy man spec, can’t do much wrong.

Downside: super low defense, especially vs CC chains. No stun breaker, but Deathshround fear vs 1.

Summary: Kite or die. Has not failed me once and you feel bad for well played opponents. Played vs. several profs, Lyssa or Melandru doesn’t help. Anti condition builds from eles, guardians, won’t help. Only Problem: super squishy vs. CC from 2+ players – pretty much unable to recover or escape.

After a few nights in WvW i have come to the conclusion that 1v1 is to easy now as condimancer. Vs good enemy players i sometimes got the feeling i had to apologize after stomping them.

At the same time, there were times vs 2 players where you are ragdolled around without doing hardly any damage at all.

There is a very thin red line to OPness we have crossed. I love the added offense, yet that doesn’t help me when i’m cornered.

I think the players that stuck to necros till now, are the players that love to play games on hardmode. Therefore, what we got was not really a fix.

To sum it up, for the oldschoolers: IDKFA is no IDDQD. But it’s still cheating.

80 player Elona zerg on Kodash border, sick! Ok then they split up 40 / 40 for 2 garrison doors. Looks amazingly boring. i have to ponder how that can be possibly fun for anyone.

At least we got some kind of holiday from the masses last week. But Desolation, lol poor chaps.

Exciting, large scale battles? Big Zergs are just avoiding that. You rush over everything as fast as possible, the more players the better. It’s quite the contrary of what a RvR PvP game should offer. Think about it.

TPvP is about standing on Points with Bunker builds and group compositions that cancel out the enemy team. Small scale WvW is a lot more exciting with a lot of random elements thrown in. To bad it never got promoted more by Anet. The whole WvW game seems designed for smaller groups: be it the small supply camps, how much supply you need for siege, structure hp, former culling etc. Yet there is no mechanic that stops stacking players, since more is always more effective.

Nobody is at fault here but the people who decide the rules (ArenaNet).

Can only agree with Moon, a very lackluster week is nearing its end. Eventho Kodash is in first place since many months ago, for me personally it was the weakest WvW week in a long time: a matchup full of brainless Karmatrain Zergs from all 3 sides.

The most boring part was the almost complete lack of roamers and small teams. Anything below 10 vs 10 was a rare sight or a huge stepdown in quality compared to the players from the T1/T2 servers we faced during the last months. Maybe i just got unlucky during my playtime, but from what i’ve encounterd, i didn’t even bother with food buffs.

I hope that didn’t sound to kitteny, i just think WvW is way past its peak which is sad.

What are you guys babbling about OP? OP would be if i could win 1 vs 2 consistently. I still get ragdolled around by knockdowns, knockbacks and stuns. Instead of turning this game more into bunker wars, we got exactly what was needed – more offense.

As conditionmancer you couldn’t hold a candle vs shadow art thieves (they literally gained health while fighting you), same as D/D eles and guardians with their constant condi removal and boon spam. Only a well placed corrupt boon could even the battle in 1v1 situations. Now we got the needed coverconditions to support the one trick pony that was bleed stacking.

Only problem i see now, is necros using defensive moves like fear offensively. However so do other classes. I am sure that will balance out soon enough.

Funny thing is, for 1v1 i don’t need terror damage from fear btw. New signet of spite, corrupt boon and new torment condition added enough of an edge to stand on even footing against most player builds. Burning and terror damage are just the cherry on top.

So yeah, in the past bad players got gibbed by glass thieves, mesmers, 100b warriors, 100nades engies but rarely from necromancers. Now with the added offense, necros may get added to that list, momentarily.

If 2+ necros are a problem in group composition, just spread your condi removal moves out more instead of fire and forget and then beat the usless necro to pulp like before.

Currently the game is about nothing. Guildwars 2, the Seinfeld if MMOs.

If that’s a good thing or a bad thing is up to you.

In my humble opinion, there is a severe lack of risk vs reward and a lack of sense of accomplishments in all parts of the game, be it PvE, PvP or WvW.

GW2 is a game about nothing.

Or: A Problem concerning Risk vs. Reward

PvE:
The highend of the PvE game is RNG. There are no real feats to accomplish. Or has anyone ever asked you about your fractal level?
Suggestion: challenge PvE guilds properly. Fractals were a good start. Content with increasing difficulty works. The rewards shouldn’t be 5 silver and a yellow item, however. Reward players properly, who dedicate time and skill.

WvW:
There are many ways to play WvW. Follow a random Com with the Zerg, play competetive in a coordinated guild or roam smallscale or solo. However, nothing you do matters in the outcome of things. Point margin happens during off times. Lose a tower? get it back a few Minutes later.
Suggestion: reward skillful gameplay by dividing rewards with participating players. Get rid of the brainless blobs, nobody wants them. If 10 guys take a tower, they should be rewarded more then the 80 player zerg that rushes over everything. Also towers and keeps require a timed lockdown mode, that can be aquired once a structure is fully upgraded, even if its only 2 hours and only available once.

PvP:
There is only a very small elusive crowd doing the competetive part of PvP in this game. Most GW2 players don’t even know about Tournaments, because nobody reports about them. This game has the potential for real exciting and sporty gameplay. There could be hosted shows on streaming websites like twitch.tv. Why is nothing happening here? One year after gamestart and we get a spectator mode, that’s it?
Suggestion: Add more gamemodes, but standing on points. Ok that one was easy.

The last cpl. Months i’ve played against roamers from SFR, Deso, Elona, Piken. What you just described, would never happen against the smallscale crowd there.

1 v 3 against a capable Mesmer, Ranger and Warrior i wouldn’t even get a skill off. I sometimes get wtf situations too, when people just drop around me, but that sure as hell is not the rule.

1 v 1 is mostly balanced. You win some, you lose some, how it should be.

Well i think the main reason is, that the current meta is akittens peak. The focus in WvW seems to be exclusively on CC- and bunkerbuilds, specially for smallscale encounters. Eighter you are ragdolled around in a 1 vs x, or when solo you are fighting 99% bunker rangers, eles and permastealth thieves.

Fighting as the underdog can still be fun and more then often you may surprise your opponent. At least in WvW you are not pigeonholed into pointholding and can try to kite like a champ. Range is your friend! That said, i wish i would follow my own advice more often.

Beat A Thief?

I play WvW exclusively as roaming condition necro, doing smallscale PvP. I kill plenty of Thieves every night. That said, if i played a Thief in WvW i would never ever die to a Necro. There is always time to reset the fight in your favor as thief.

There are several annoying thief builds, the most annoying part is the condition cleanse on stealth and yeah well, perma stealth and / or endless kiting eighter by you or the thief.

Your best bet against any thief build is trying to load a few bleeds and chain fear to gain the upper hand and kiting. The smart ones won’t die from that or anything else you think of trying, because in worst case a quality opponent will take note of your cooldowns will reset the fight at will. At some point, as Necro you will stand there with cooldowns and your pants down.

You have not really played WvW till you find the thief that trolls the crap out of you and there is nothing you can do about it.

That said, SFR and Deso have been my overall personal favorite opponents, eventho Kodash lost most matches against eighter of them in the past. You can’t wish for better quality enemies on the battlefields. I don’t play as much these days, but so far almost every enemy encouter has been pleasant and challenging.

That said, nobody is gonna miss Jade “Zombie” Sea in this bracket. Elona, Viz and Jade is a perfect match, to bad things are going be stirred up from next week on. Oh well. :p

What makes thief balanced in WvW?

Let’s be realistic. Every game has difficulty settings, the easiest settings usually provide more safepoints, less skills required, have regenerating health etc. In this game the easy mode is the Thief profession. As a Thief you need to use very little skills and it’s very hard to be defeated, because you can setup your battle and retreat at any time thanks to near unlimited stealth and initiative points. Alltogether you play with several advantages vs. other players. Views from Pve, Spvp or Tpvp may vary – but in WvW it is very much so.

That said, i’m glad there is a easy mode! (Because bad players need a home too!)
But even then the bads will argue, that it’s all fair and game and even post videos how they “pwn n00bs” – same as bads of every game post videos how they beat games while exploiting weaknesses of game mechanics.

The result is, your victories are short lived since nobody cares and nobody respects you. If nobody respects a Thief as opponent, then what’s the point in playing one?

As WvW player i respect challenging opponents of all classes. I play for hard fought battles, as it rewards me with enjoyment, no matter if i win or lose. Battles against Thieves are shrugged off however. It’s the well known troll profession that doesn’t add much to WvW, runs around single or in pairs for easy kills. Everyone knows this and we don’t even care by now.

TLDR: Pity the easy mode thieves instead of getting all fussed over something that’s there for a reason. At least Anet thinks so, right?

They made the PvP Daily just equal to the PvE daily for time requirement. Overall, the new dailies are punishing the player, having him doing chores for little reward is not fun.

Once, dailies could be completed by just playing the game. They were a fun side effect of playing (daily). Why change a completely good thing and make it worse? What was the point? The early dailies would just as much encourage people to log on and play the game how they want, instead of being restricted by one hour of doing chores.

On every patch you have long time players shake their heads in disbelief, because it is very hard to follow the game design sometimes.

I believe conditions are actually the reason for the extreme skill lags in WvW and Boss events. They have to calculate different conditions on every player with up to 25 stacks.

Suggestion – redesign conditions:

Cut condition stacks with new max of 10 or even 5. Up the damage and / or duration, have the buildup slower for balancing. win / win.

Just to add: you join as “casual” to pvp as a team and as soon as you get behind in score, your team leaves you because… of what exactly?

I had 3 games in a row where i was the only one left vs premades and their team even told me “sorry” in chat. I wouldn’t feel better in their shoes, fact.

Should a player feel like they are punishing themselves for playing Spvp? So weird!

You have immortal bunker builds, hi Ele, Guardian, to some extend Ranger and Engies

Super compact maps that support bunker node holding and then…

Useless classes like necros, warriors…

Inbetweens, like Thieves (which are op in WvW), or Mesmers that are very powerful 1v1 and frustrating to play against, especially as someone new to the game.

What is the outlook of this game i wonder? Matches are meaningless, since nobody reports about them. You have “tournaments” that host premades vs pickup groups.

Casual “timewaster” game after all?

The truth about World vs World

I see myself in Nemesis’ Video a lot. Eventho i didn’t watch all of it, i concur with most of his findings.

Since start of the game i’m roaming WvW solo or in a small 2-3 man team in a Condition Build similar to the one of Lopez’ (excellent guide btw). I would recommend that you don’t even bother with the borderlands, as i see them as playground for the guilds / zergs with a lot of wasted space between the objectives. As solo / small scale PvP player i would recommend the Eternal Battlegrounds, since only there you may find worthwhile action.

Once you learn how to read the map and act with a little foresight, you rarely get rolled over by zergs. Sadly tho, rightnow the zergs are getting out of hand since the fail WvW patch, so your WvW gameplay experience may vary at the moment.

In my opinion, you can be extremely useful while playing on the outskirts of your servers third, flipping npcs and nearby enemy camps. I try to be useful as defensive backup on the frontline opposite of where our zerg is which equals in active scouting at the same time.

My playstyle involves a lot of smallscale PvP and you are actually useful for your server at the same time. It can be both a challenging and rewarding gaming experience as Condition Necro aside of brainless zerging in WvW. Just be aware that most of the 1v1 encounters are against a) trolling thieves b) immortal elementalists and c) lots of 1v1 specced mesmers – you can’t win em all. Good luck!

Necro is a solid class. Now, if they would manage to remove the clunkyness in gameplay, i would consider this profession as complete.

With clunkyness i mean horrid casting times, for example stuff like epidemic cast time of 1 sec on land, while underwater is has 1/2 sec. That difference is huge, try it!

Slow cast times in general are a pain once you reach a higher skillcap when it’s about reaction and counter reaction. Necro gameplay doesn’t have to be as twitchy as for example playing a warrior of thief, but simply put: far to often you end up spamming buttons and nothing happens. I am sure that turns off many players from staying with the Necro.

Everone should get full credit for kills – i’m all for that. That encourages support play and build variety. Rewards like taking a objective needs however to be split between participants. If they do not implement that rule, WvW will be empty before they even know what happened. You can only encourage mindless gameplay, which is Zerging, for so long.

Only Necros (and to some extend Engies and Thieves) can eat D/D Eles for breakfast. L2 Currupt boon and fear chain at the right time and they will not be able to recover. Same with Bunker Guardians or other boon stacking builds.

Today in SPvP i’ve seen a ton of MM Necros and they seem to do well vs average players. Maybe give it a try if 1 vs 1 is your thing.

Lolwut, Necros and Engies are super strong. Clunky to play, yet straight forward pain vs any class. Both classes require some skill and finesse, because there aren’t any cheesy escape mechanisms – you make mistakes, you eat dirt. I call that balanced.

Now i could write a novel about what you could do and how you could do it vs x class and build , but Lopez did that already – check out his neat conditionmancer guide somewhere on this forum or guildwars2guru.

I personally can give you only 1 tip:

Try to stay at range, always.

Learn to kite, always move, never try to facetank. As Necro, you have all the tools to beat any class, not easily, but in time you may learn how to have the upper hand.

For PvP, Corrupt Boon is so good. Like instagib in situations where it counts. I now too switched from corruption cooldown to Terror and use Corrupt Boon instead of Blood is Power. After 100s of hours of PvP/WvW you never stop learning new things, right?

Had Problems with certain Guardian builds before, now you only have to pressure them a little bit for them to spam their shouts and BOOM splat. Same for Bunker D/D Eles and certain Engineer or Warrior builds that rely on Boon uptime and Might stacking.

Not saying it’s easy. If you screw up you’re dead, but it feels like you have the upper hand as Condition Necro if you play smart. Shame that you can’t use more skills at the same time isn’t it?

The OP is absolutely right and ANET is incompetent in handling several problems of this game. Like the render issues (culling), handling hackers, balancing issues, zero commitment towards WvW so far – hell, even basic things like risk vs reward.

Doesn’t mean the game isn’t still fun, at least certain aspects of it. However, the forums got pretty quiet lately, propably because less and less people care. ANET better realize that only people who care about the game write posts like OP.

Necromancer Survivability?

In PvP, a necro has practically no escape mechanics. You have to be on your toes more then other professions like mesmer or elementalist. You are durable statwise, yes but disengaging from a battle that doesn’t go in your favour is practically not always possible.

On the other side, Elementalist and Mesmer are more forgiving to play, since they have great escape mechanics.

In PvE it doesn’t matter at all. You may spec to be unkillable on all of the professions.

Red = dead. Killing enemy players gives rewards, like badges, salvagables and even items up to exotic quality.

PvP is all about kiling other Players Yet, somehow ANET thought that WvW should have a huge portion of PvE for whatever reason. Now, many PvE players have Problems grasping the concept behind WvW, while pursuing their PvE goals. This opens Problems for both sides however, especially on maps with player limits. The PvP crowd are urging to get a capable army together with likeminded players, while a certain amount of PvE players are pursuing their own goals.

If you end up getting killed, while on your achievement hunting activities, cheer up – it doesn’t matter! GW2 is one of the most forgiving (PvP) games, it’s practically the opposite of hardcore. On death, you lose practically nothing but a negligible amount of coins and little time, since the next waypoint is never far away. It may even add some excitement to your time catching butterflies in WvW!

So, fellow Kodash players… how does it feel being used? I can’t believe we let SFR have such an easy game after what happened last week.

In case you missed it, the last weeks T1 game between SFR, VIZ and Elona was being manipulated. Only VIZ was playing fair – the both other servers SFR and Elona were manipulating the match for a big point loss, so they could have a easy match this week and stay on top of the server ranking.

Instead Kodash and Elona will propably drop several tiers, because of this manipulation and SFR will most likely get through with this. At this point i would have hoped the WvW guilds of Jade and Kodash would act accordingly, instead of letting SFR get ahead with points that much.

Seems like fairness doesn’t count for much these days, not even in gaming. Sad week for Kodash, after staying in T2 for that long, outmanned and outgunned – but now outplayed.

New Thief Trend in WvW

Let’s be realistic. Every game has difficulty settings, in this game the easy mode is the Thief profession. As a Thief it’s very hard to die and you play with several advantages vs. other players.

That said, i’m glad there is a easy mode! (Because it’s good to know where all the bads are)

But even then the bads will argue, that it’s all fair and game and even post videos how they “pwn n00bs” – same as bads of every game post videos how they beat games on the easy setting or exploit weaknesses of different game mechanics.

The result is, nobody cares and nobody respects you. If nobody respects a Thief as opponent, then what’s the point in playing one?

As WvW player i respect challenging opponents of all classes. I play for hard fought battles, as it rewards me with enjoyment, no matter if i win or lose. Battles against Thiefs are shrugged off however. It’s the well known troll profession that doesn’t add much to WvW, runs around single or with the D/D Ele buddy for easy kills. Everyone knows this and we don’t even care by now.

TLDR: Pity the easy mode thieves instead of getting all fussed over something that’s there for a reason.

I almost feel a bit sorry for GH.

On Eternal Battleground we don’t have any of the bigger organized guilds to fight you. If you want a challenge, you may want to switch to one of the Borderlands.

I mean, your guildraid usually is bigger then our random Zerg – is that really fun to you? I don’t get it. Whatever floats your boat i guess…

To all the other Desolation and Baruch Players, thanks for the fun and challenging fights – it has been a pleasure. I wish everyone gets a fun matchup this reset, we may meet again.

Excellent Guide for Condition Necromancers!

Gladly will recommend this guide to anyone who’s interested in Necro gameplay from hereon.

I’m playing exactly like this in WvW since Ex Force wrote his first guides on GW2Guru forum. Understanding this build made the Necro Class “click” for me. The Synergies and the build variation if: Corrution or Wells, or: Blood is Power or Corrupt Boon gives great Variety to boot.

It can be very satisfying to play the Necro Class and thanks to this “Conditionmancer” build you are a force to reckon with.

how to counter thieves

The extremely sexy people from ANET need to play WvW – hey just for fun – to see what’s up with their game:

- Thieves (just have a few 1v1s as any class – hey have fun!)
- Mesmer portals (get 20 people on your set siege, or through your keeps doors, fun stuff)
- Have your towers or keeps taken in 20 seconds with a few golems, and switch right back inbetween 5 minutes. Yo, whats’s the point of anything in Wvw?
- Run with the zerg like a headless chicken – You ALL know how you expected WvW to be and how it ended up!?What a let down!! There needs to be cooldowns on how often a objective can be taken, which is much easier to balance then how many players run through the map together.

Make the game EPIC, Anet – we trust in you!!! Discuss details anytime with the commanders making the lackluster Maps and gameplay fun for the players on ALL Servers!

WvW focus: What would you trade in for due bug fixes?

Plague Form = press 2 and shut down everyone in 700 range
Epidemic = Heavy Attrition on a whole enemy raid
High HP / Toughness = be nearly unkillable

Necro is a extremely fun classs to play PvE and WvW, you are constantly casting and moving, it’s very very fun to play this class despite a few shortcomings:

- Weak 1v1 vs several classes ’ who cares, play smart: do your job " attrition!"
- Cast times are not instant, why is nobody complaining about this? CC chain and you can’t do anything forever? Consume Conditions, Blood is Power, Epidemic – if these were instant, there would be no problem, whatsoever.
- Minions are for PVE leveling only. Minions would be awesome, except in PVP they don’t work and are easily shut down.
- Build Variety is gimmiky. Sure, those power builds with wells are gonna have fun for a few minutes, but how are they useful for the team? There is NO way around a heavy conditions build as it is extremely powerful if well played.

Suggested Bugfixes:
- Long Thread about suggested Bugfixes for Necros, look at it. Act accordingly!
- No 1 Trident Underwater skill goes through walls and can reach trough walls etc. OP / needs to be fixed (low priority)

If anyone from ANET likes to chat, feel free to get in contact to anyone of the well known posters from GW2 Guru or this Forum. Game is awesone, great job on art and presentation, however the gameplay has room for improvement. Not all players are whiners, most like this game and want to help improve the experience.

Elona Reach / Piken Square / Kodash

To be honest, who cares? This matchup is another balancing tool fail. I predict Elona to be ahead at least 2-3 times the score of the follow ups.

This week is already over. Maybe we get proper matchups next weekend. To those who stand against the red endless zerg waves of Elona – good luck and try to have some fun anyway (or play Alts, lol).

The funny and really entertaining bit however is, how arrogant some Elona players are on the german forum section. It’s like a football match 11 vs 5 and the full 11 are bragging how they pwn.
