FT isn’t all about the toolbelt, it has a pushback with burn (can stop ressurection or stomp on friend), an instant blind that can be used to stomp, a fire field, and blast finisher on low cooldown. People may get out of the firefield, but you can throw it on a dowened player, for instance, and put a lot of pressure. All that besides the awesome toolbet skill.

If you getting the FT just for the toolbet, you’re doing this wrong.

Why I HATE PvP in this game

Man I love the way GW2 deals with pvp. Knowing that I lost because I played worse than the other guy instead of wondering if I lost because the guy had best gear than me couldn’t be better. Another thing, when I start a new char, I can try lots of different things without spending a lot of time to get money, then buy equipment and realize that setup just doesn’t work well. I tried to play a little of WoW with some friends of mine, but the gear grinding (and monthly fee) kept me away of reaching good pvp games. I was always thinking: I need better gear; instead of thinking: I need to learn how to play this class.

I think that guys who want unbalanced battles because of gear don’t wanna learn how to play correctly, and wanna spend all their time getting better gear, and then feel good because he killed a guy who didn’t have good equipment. Something like, the guy who plays more time, win, not the more talented.

Really reminds me of Dervish.

But yea back at GW2’s launch I was hoping that Necro would have a big focus on controlling opponents.
Skills like Spectral Grap and Spectral Wall are really fun to use but usually inferior to other skills.

It sounds like the Revenant is very focused on positioning.
I think that I would greatly enjoy playing one.
Of course way too early to say how they will play in practice.

Also I will say that Demon Stance Revenants will be great Epidemic targets.
Strip their Resistance, too, while at it!

Well I’ll definitely be exploring revenant when it comes, but looking at this from a Necro perspective, I am more concerned about the new boon than the revenant’s abilities.

Yea looks Powerful.
Condi Necros (and condi Thieves? lol) are probably the least impacted condi users, though.
If everyone starts running skills that apply Resistance Necros start using more Boon stripping.
I’m more curious about how it impacts Engineers. haha!
I’m kinda out of the loop, not having played in a long time… but last I played I don’t remember Engineers really having many ways to remove boons.

Anyway, seeing how Necro has gotten most Conditions so far I would expect Necro’s specialization to get Taunt or Slow. Or both.
(Slow seems more Chronoman- err I mean Mesmer, though!)

Taunt could be hilarious when used together with Fears.
“What? You stunbroke my Fear? Well have a Taunt!”

Also something to consider is that Necros might get skills or traits that apply Resistance on them…
Fits Necromancer’s condition manipulation theme.
Synergy with skills that draw conditions from allies to yourself for example.

Being a engineer most of the time, I can say that the warrior berserker instance it’s really hard to deal with. I try to keep distance if I can when they use that. And you’re right, engineers don’t have feasible options of boon striping.

Depending on how they put this new boon in the game (across multiple classes), this can make the engineer as it is today useless, since they rely on conditions.

But I like the idea of having some boon that is a counter of conditions, instead of a skill that has no counterplay besides running until it effect ends. This may give the necromancer ability to convert boons into conditions even more power.

I am thinking in adding some life siphon for extra survivability.
I may try something like 0/30/20/20/0 or 0/30/0/20/20, in a condition build, probably with staff, scepter/dagger and a carrion amulet.

Does anyone know if it is viable?

I am currently running a terrormancer build, but I feel I could exchange some condition damage for extra survivability and be able to last longer holding a point. Don’t know if this change worth though.

I always tried to use carrion instead of rabid because I don’t like the idea of wasting direct damage in favor of using criticals just to proc some extra bleedings. Rampager I don’t like because it focus mainly in precision, so in terms of condition builds, it isn’t optimal. With power you increase both normal damage and critical damage. Adding the critical chance in the same set, people will be able to proc critical bleendings, add direct damage and also great condition damage.

Of course, you’ll be a full glass canon, since you won’t have toughness neither vitality. But for guys looking for a condition glass canon, this looks like a berseker glass canon for direct damage.

But I think it’s more like our rifle AA needs a buff. For a start, the engineer fires his rifle like a shotgun, what kind of idiot does that?

Oh man, this is the funniest thing about using the rifle with engineers: shooting like a shotgun. The warrior shoots from the shoulder, and it isn’t “that fun”.

If you guys want some reality in games, you need to look for a simulator, not an RPG. Lol.

Of course, I agree, isn’t possible to throw grenades farther than shooting a rifle. Although, it’s possible to create clones, to become invisible, use lighting daggers, throw orbs from scepters, and so on. kitten engineer, don’t follow the logic of life as other professions do.

IMO shatter mesmers need a nerf

in PvP

dereck.8354

I am seeing lots of complaints asking for nerfs in engies, ele, rangers, mesmers. If all those are OP, we have a balance between at least 4 classes. Given that at least guardian and necromancer are certainly viable, and I don’t know about the state of warriors and thieves, I guess the “unbalanced” argument may not be true.

I think people tend to justify the lack of ability to learn how to counter other classes with the argument that all other classes are OP.

Play one of the classes you think is OP, and you quickly learn that this class has a lot of weaknesses and you won’t be “autoattacking” or hitting 1,2,3,4,5 and killing everyone.

how do you counter rangers in pvp

I am using rifle with bombs, nades, EG and celestial amulet, so I don’t have block or stealth.

smokefield + [Acid Bomb OR Jumpshot OR Big old Bomb] == ???

Actually now I’ve changed to TK, nades and elixir S. I was weak on defense with that setup. I keep trying to use the bomb kit, since I love how it works, but I felt like needing more defense, since with that you don’t have blocks, invul and invisibility (not without using fields). Maybe I should replace the grenades to make the bomb kit work better, but in that case I still prefer the grenades.

But the smoke bomb just will be good if the ranger is close to you, which is not always the case. But when you’re able to force the guy come close to you, of course will be a great idea. I didn’t try to use smoke field + jumpshot, but this will certainly give you stealth. Although if you deal damage, you’ll be revealed.

But yeah, these 3 skills will make you stealth, if used inside the smoke field and you don’t deal damage: acid bomb, big oil bomb, or jumpshot.

A long time ago, I used to run grenades, bomb and rocket boots. So when I needed to leave a fight, I just drop a smoke bomb and then rocket boots and was launched far from the fight and in stealth.

Where is the celestial amulet nerf?

dereck.8354

I guess this depends on the point of view. I play as engineer, and I am having a hard time against LB rangers and necromancers. But I don’t think this is a problem with those classes, I think I need to improve my game play and learn how to counter them. Even though may be impossible to do it. In the other hand, other classes may not find those encounters a problem.

The main thing about MMO RPGs is that you won’t be capable of killing all classes, if you are in the same skill level. It’s just impossible to balance that, obviously some classes will be stronger than other in 1v1 duels.

If you read all forums from MMO games, you’ll always see someone complaining from OP classes.

The main thing is: if it is so powerful, instead of complaining, put it in your build. But it isn’t that powerful. Celestial has its drawbacks too. You won’t do spike damage with it, neither will be a bunker. It’s far from being an OP amulet, where you’ll kill everyone and won’t dye.

Two options:

Option 1: Nerf celestial amulet
Option 2: Nerf engi and ele

I vote for option 1.

Man, if you think celestial is that good, use it in your build. It’s available to all classes.

SPvP: benefits of Cele+Rifle over Rabid+P/S?

in Engineer

Posted by: dereck.8354

dereck.8354

I guess the big advantage of celestial is that you get a total of 3066 stat points instead of 2232 in other amulets (in spvp). Of course this could be of no use if you waste some of this stat points. But the engineer takes advantage of all stats. With celestial you won’t do spike damage, but you’ll do sustained damage both from conditions and power. The critical chance and damage will be in the middle range too. In the defense side, you won’t be a bunker, but you’ll have good health pool and also a good armor.
And finally, the healing power will help you both with backpack regenerator and with the healing from turret and regens.

I always tried to use celestial in other classes, but I always felt like wasting something and not being good in anything. Most classes won’t take advantage of healing power, or won’t have the synergy between direct damage and condition damage.

I’ve been playing with the celestial rifle lately and I simply love it. So much synergy between defense and attack. I don’t feel like a paper, or a bunker which can’t do damage anymore. LOL.

I am using rifle with bombs, nades, EG and celestial amulet, so I don’t have block or stealth. But the EG autoatack with its weakness is great against this LB rangers. Their damage really go down with weakness, and they’re forced to engage close combat, which isn’t a good option for them either.

If you want a need cheap I win build, I suggest you choosing another class (maybe warrior). LOL. I believe engineer is one of the hardest class to master, since you have a lot of options in your hand, and need a lot of practice until you learn how to use them in the right time.

But besides that, some builds have more synergy than others, and you may some on this site: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Category:All_Engineer_Builds

Wofineer also made a good tutorial which has some builds: http://www.wolfineer.com/

I am personally using a celestial rifle with 3 kits (nades, bomb and EG).

engineer or mesmer in solo pve and and pvp?

dereck.8354

I’ll talk more about pvp, since I only play pvp in GW2:

Although a mesmer can be a pain in the kitten , and hard to kill if well played, for conquest pvp, I guess they lack some point holding capabilities. You’ll be able to 1v1 assault a point, but not hold it. And also, you’ll suffer in group battles, since mesmers lack AOE damage. I’ve played mesmer for sometime, and it’s fun, specially when you learn how to trick your enemy (you always see someone complaining about mesmers on the posts). But at the end, even if you build a more defensive mesmer, it’s a squishy class, and I don’t like having to wait for the right opportunity to engage a battle.

Engineers, they can hold a point, since we have a lot of cc, and also good survivability. Also, you can setup a good roamer, bunker, or balanced player. Another thing, grenades and bombs are strong AOE attacks, besides turrets and other things. It’s really a versatile profession.

I try to play other professions sometimes, but I always get back to the engineer. Nothing funnier than blow up people with the big oil bomb, or send them flying off a point with rifle #4. Engineers have a lot of CC and also a lot of synergy between blast finishers and fields.

Not needed but…

I would quit gaming if I didn’t have these,

Logitech g600
and
Razer Nostromo

Keybind how you want, over 31 buttons and ways to multiply that up. I love the directional pad, game how gaming was meant to be done, forget WASD. I have dodge, jump and ‘shift’ keyed to the mouse so I can easily trigger my toolbelts and maintain mobility. I highly suggest this setup to anyone gaming. It takes a bit to get used to but once you’ve got it its great. Been working this setup for 14 years across many games. If you want to look at this more closely I’d be happy to share my setup and experiences.

Best investment I’ve made other then a quality gaming chair

I am more like an spvp guy. There I use celestial which I find great with engineer. I think engineer has a great balance between power and condition, since you deal good direct damage and also has a lot of conditions. Another thing, we benefit from healing power with backpack regenerator, and of course better heals and regenerations. Vitality and toughness is always welcome.

This is my style of course, since I try to balance better attack and defense, and not to be a glass canon, or a bunker. I know that wvw may be different, but at least in my case (spvp) celestial is performing better than carrion. I tried rabid too, and didn’t like it. The toughness is good, but you deal little direct damage, which is a waste. With power your normal attacks and your critical will be stronger.

I play solo arena a lot, and maybe that’s why a balanced build tend to be better, since you never know what group you’ll find. And I guess people tend to like more being “glass canons” and dealing a lot of damage, than investing on defense.

I agree with the idea that heals lose effectiveness the more hp you have. Although, if you see things from another point of view, having 6k more hps means that you start the battle with “one extra heal”. So, having extra hit points helps a lot, both against conditions and against direct dmg. In the other side, toughness helps only against direct damage, which is good too. In the end I believe some balance between both may be a great idea.

It’s possible to use shift+ something as key binding. I use QERF and a button in my mouse as keys for skills 12345. The skills from 6 to elite, i use as shift+ QERF. For instance, the heal is shift+F. The elite is shift+ mouse button. The F1 through F4 abilities I’ve binded as 1,2,3,4.
