Putting up another vote for anything but something as dumb as “dragonhunter”
Also, another reason I really dislike it is how inherently “anti-Sylvari” it is.
I said it before and I’ll say it again, but, what, no one would have a problem playing “Charrslayer” or “Asurawrecker” ?
“The idea of a “glamour build” has long since been gone, and I’m not quite sure there is a need to bring them back to their glory.”
Because why allow for variety when we can strengthen the one shatter build more?
Hello!
Another person here throwing in their vote for the name to be changed to Arbiter!
Not only do I think “Dragonhunter” sounds a little generic, I also feel that it’s arbitrarily “excludes” an entire race (the Sylvari) simply by the fact that the definition being given to us is technically about hunting them since they’re counted as being dragon minions.
It’d be like if they make the Thief specialization “Charr-Killer.” That’d be one awkward name to carry for all the Charr thieves.
Wow! Nice to see this thread getting some views :P
@skcamow: Here’s my build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQRAsc8dnsISjaWqGuqB1aIR1QObxhoLLpCUyOlA-TJBBABA8AAEc/hNOJAgVGAA
It’s a pretty standard phantasm build with some tweaks. Initially , I made it more for flavor since I like phantasms and Swords+Focus looks-wise, but it then turned out that it’s been working pretty well for me as a supportive spec. It pairs best if I have at least one damage dealer who’ll roam with me or in large group fights as the glamours do some really useful effects along with Time Warp and my two big Phantasms do some great damage on their own.
On top of that, I pop in every so often with my sword mainhand, especially if their focusing someone. The sword #3 is wonderful for letting everyone else burst down a pesky thief or other mesmer. In a pinch, the spec is also highly tanky and I’ve managed to hold down a point 2V1 while help arrived (though obviously, it doesn’t manage kills…sometimes).
Anyway, I do hope they rolled in the blind as baseline. One thing I did notice when going through the new traits is that nearly all my favorite traits were either within three lines or already merged! In fact, I’d wager my phantasm-y ways are only gonna be stronger!
P.S.: I also like this game for the phantasms due to being a poor gamer who has an old laptop. The Phantasms on my Mesmer and Minions on Necro allow me to play without worrying about the lag from my 7 year old machine! ^^
It proved itself well with both Feedback and Null Field, it alone has allowed me to keep a fight going forever against multiple people.
However, it really takes some precise timing. For example, I’ve went a match when I managed to multi-blind a persistant thief trying to grab Svanir and in the second blind I hit him with a Sword swap and immob’d him just for the boss to down him.
Basically, I’ve just really been able to make it work for me so I’m sad to see it cut like that :/
I can’t find it in the lists for the revamp anywhere!
Please tell me I just missed it.
It’s really become a large part of my defenses and offensive support, I can’ t believe it’s gone just like that! Has it at least been rolled into another trait?
“This isn’t a balance question. This is the fact the game was designed to work this way, and people no long need to be held back by needing x build to do content. People get to play what’s fun to them, and the speed-clear optimization meta is going to remain no matter what happens, no matter the game.”
Excuse me, but I’d like to point out that isn’t this exactly the argument?
You’re saying that “people no longer NEED to be held back by needing X build,” but it’s becoming increasingly common in-game that you do NEED to be Berserker or kicked.
It’s pretty much the reason why I’ve just given up on PVE and spend 90% of my time in PVP. At least there skilled people can make any build work and can lead to some surprises
For example, I met a hybrid (as in amulet wise) PP thief just a while ago that had a top spot on the kill board. It was mad fun since you usually never see that work, but they made it work!
I was pleasantly surprised that the sylvari twintails actually have physics.
Those would have looked really terrible without though…Huh?
Are you talking about #3? The one with the large twintails?
Doesn’t move for me
It probably has something to do with your video options, the hair on the balthazar outfit doesn’t move on my laptop because my options are set to low, but they move fine on my desktop. The animation option.
That was it, fixed when I bumped it up to medium!
Thankfully, I’m upgrading soon >_>;

“1. No skill use drains life force, only the natural degeneration and incoming damage reduce life force.”
I somehow had it in my head the whole time that Life Blast, at least, drained some LF on top of the constant drain and incoming damage. Weird, maybe it was something that I heard that stayed with me. I never stayed in DS long enough to test this, so I just didn’t notice.
“What profession were you fighting? What adrenaline increasing traits were you using in your build? What build were you using for that matter? How many hours did you spend on your warrior at level 80?”
I said I made one to try, so at most I made it to level 11 post patch. However, even without any traits it just seemed so kitten fast. I fought a mob, made half a bar, and lost it before I took a few steps away. It needed work, but this is a bit of a hack job.
I dunno, maybe they intended it for being used against bosses only?? Anet doesn’t make sense sometimes.
All said and returning to the topic at hand: Adrenaline and Death Shroud are just so incomparable. Let’s start with the fact that DS drains in use, depletes when taking damage and has a cooldown. Let’s also mention losing your utilities, Elite, and once you leave it your HP is still the same (outside of using a trait slot for DS healing) if you used it as a panic button. Also, not as easy to build up.
These warrior responses…is this what it’s like when Gods become mortal?/jk
I did make and try out a warrior for a bit and even as a Necro main who LOSES LIFE FORCE JUST BY BEING IN DEATH SHROUD AS WELL AS SKILLS DRAINING LIFE FORCE, the Adrenaline drain is horrible.
I have no idea how it was before (I assume from the forums that it was mainly permanent and basically never actually drained), but as it is now, it’s almost irrelevant in combat.
“Actually you lose DPS every second they are not blown up after the CD is up, especially with traiting. So optimizing them is actually making sure they die as quickly as possible after they come off CD.”
That is true, I was thinking PVP wise (since I’ve been doing a lot of that recently).
But I play casually to begin with :p
At this level, I often find people who will turn around to try to kill my minions before me. My statement above was in the mindset of immediately killing them isn’t as good as letting them get to my opponent and let them try to kill one before I blow it up in their face.
Of course, I make a lot of practice in actually watching what’s going on. Basically letting them do a few hits on their own while my opponent tries to kill them only for me to blow them up right before they die is much better than just letting them blow up as soon as their close. Obviously this changes if the enemy player is much smarter.
In PVE, I watch first that someone isn’t in the middle of using a combo field (like Fire and blasting), but yeah I usually blow them up quick there.
“I do play Minion Mancer, though I just thought Spectral Walk was better has it gives me the movement speed PLUS the teleport.”
Hmm, well maybe? But we already have Warhorn for Swiftness (which is huge now) and one of the points of MM, I feel, is to have as much of an army of minions as possible for their passive damage (hitting opponents) and their utilities. If you take out the Wurm for SW and if you follow the popular build you’ll also have CC over Blood Fiend. At that point I kinda feel you should be running the other builds.
I dunno, maybe it works for you, but in any case I feel that it’s an inherently dumb idea to remove Teleporting from the Wurm in favor of another exploding Minion.
Definitely hurts my favorite build :<
Hoping for a fix tomorrow >_>
Bump!
C’mon this is gamebreaking! It basically eliminates an entire build-style from the game!
It’d be like Mantra Mesmers having their Mantras be wiped upon……….oh.
Did anyone actually test these stuff before the patch? It’s pretty freakin’ obvious.
" It would be even better in my opinion to just remove the teleporting thing all together and substitute what with perhaps a wider blast radius."
Helllllll nooooooooooo
You obviously don’t play Minion Master if your reasoning for this is “just run Spectral Walk if you wanna teleport.” Flesh Wurm is near essential as a minion:
-Large damage with Projectile Finisher
-Stun-breaking Teleport and AoE
-Plus any benefits if you spec into MM traits
It’s only balanced by virtue of being stationary (though it needs a lower cast time).
Like the other guy said, if you just wanna blow stuff up, run Bone Minions, they’re NOT supposed to be straight DPS. Blow them up once they’re close to the enemy.
Even better if you’re good enough to watch them and let them get in some hits before they’re hit by AoE to maximize damage.
Yeah I agree with how limiting Death Shroud is. It’s definitely got a nice “direction,” but it needs some work. Not being able to heal at all (without a trait) diminishes its role as a “oh crap!” button. Also, disabling your utilities (including Signets!) is really annoying.
There’s been a lot of times where I have to decide whether to use Death Shroud to keep myself alive or use a utility that would really help at the time.
I’d really think we at least could have something like 50% healing in DS. Soooo many times I get regain from party members that goes wasted.
Ah, forgot to add that I forgot that I used the default Ascended options in that build editor^
In-game I’m in full exotics with only two Ascended gear so far (though I just hit 400 on Tailoring!), but otherwise I don’t think the stats will deviate too much. Soloing/duo-ing bosses is definitely something I’ve done often with this build.
Hm…it’s both similar and very different from my MM build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRUQRBIRdG2IDNN12VjfNs3mIaokOAOgCYyM4DgsHHAA-TBSBABOqEkjnAQYK/EU/wzHEAs2f4T1fA4EAEA4AwxHf8xHfcHf8xHf8xlC4blRA-e
It was made mostly with advice from Bhawb with some deviations:
-Full Cleric’s, geared for Healing Power on infusions
-Water runes
-Sigils of Leeching on both sets, Force on Dagger (since I switch to D/D to go up close with the AA) and Renewal on the Warhorn (I switched to range on A/W)
-Personal choice leads me to keeping Blood Fiend over Consume Conditions, so off-hand dagger is what I use for controlling my debuffs (and aggressively throwing them)
-I usually only bring out the Wurm when I’m entering battle, otherwise I tend to keep it unsummoned. I’ll switch it out in dungeons with the Locust Signet when we skip mobs.
My usual rotation is to start in A/W using the Axe skills to build up Life Force if I don’t already have it, Daze when I need it, and use Locust Swarm right before entering Death Shroud to keep getting more LF. Then I Torment→Life Transfer to AoE (if I can) which also heals my minions and dungeon partners.
Thanks to Reaper’s Might, by the time I run out of LF or get to 1/3 left, I leave Death Shroud and switch to D/D. Dagger Auto-attack buffed with Might stacks from Reaper’s Might gives a really nice damage boost. Life Siphon also does a pretty nice stack of damage at range if I need to jump back while still stay on Dagger.
So far it’s worked pretty well! Though I PuG a LOT since my times are so erratic. Of course, I’m casual enough to not care too much about using MM and no one’s complained in dungeons yet (especially since I’ve soloed a few bosses when the party’s gone down)/
Maybe not general Necros, but definitely think this looks great for Sylvari Necros! ^^
It’s a combination of Snapdragon and Orchid armor pieces with the body being the Nightmare robe chest piece.
