Collection expander is the way to go, if you have the gold. I have mine maxed out to 1,500 and the only problem I have is with empireal stars. The bloodstone dust you can get rid off by using Maudrey. Dragonite ore, I would recommend not disposing of as it used to be quite hard to come about and, only now it is a bit easier.
Refining into ingots has a danger and that is that you use obsidian shards. Obsidian shards seem quite easy to get but, when you start crafting legendaries, you learn how fast it goes away. Same thing with the karma that you need to buy them with.
So, in summary, I recommend you expand at least to 500-750, refine dragonite, use Maudrey for dust and, for now, dispose of stars.

So, basically, seems safe to say that the release may be up by 3:30pm EST.
As a guild officer, whose guild has moved across servers, I am curious to see what happens with that, the merits, upgrades and such. Other than that, the update is basically an interface revamp, which is nice, but not game changing.
Trouble, you should know by now that any thread posted by a player that implies a grievance about the game will immediately be shut down by the forum police. I agree with you in most regards except the grind. I enjoy the grind. But I would agree that the grind would be much better had the developers truly explored the possibilities of this game instead of simply scratching the surface.
The game is awesome and people want to keep playing, but… There is so much repetition people can actually enjoy. Expect even less new content now that the Chinese market is the main concern of anet.
For wvw zerg farming, use whatever that keeps you alive. Use staff and mace/focus. Staff will tag people. Mace/Focus will get you out of trouble. The key here is to keep your folks around you doing damage and downing people. And you can certainly help them do so. I personally like to help by playing a high crit dmg guardian, with perma group burn, and I use celestial. For that I use GS instead of staff. However, if farming is what you want, use the above and consider 3 in radiance so you can keep spamming virtue of justice (yes, spam as soon as F1 is open) and 4 in virtues, with absolute resolution, so you can clear party conditions. Also 3 in virtues will basically give you perma retal, considering renewed justice. Make sure to use stand your ground for all zerg fights. If you go celestial, consider 4 in honor for empowering might, as you will crit more often. Grab 2 in valor for defender’s flame, as you will block a lot. Last but not least, consider using the meditation heal. Why? Well, once you switch to you staff inside a zerg, you are exposed as you have no blocks. You will need stability and a continuous heal. Pop litany of wrath when switching to staff and have stability available. Once you tag, switch back to mace/focus, with which you basically need no extra heal.
Now, if you were to roam, the above needs to be modified. I use a similar build with GS mace/shield wwhich is great for 1v1, small fights and a bit of support. I get with that one inside of zergs too, but it takes a bit of practice and quick use of meditations.
condi ranger is viable and regen pet ranger too
GW2 is kinda in a “break” right now, so for players that did pretty much everything this is a great time to also take a break and wait for the next update, for other players this is a good time to farm gold, craft your gear and get ready for the next update.
I have my legendary, my ranger have ascended gear in every slot possible (I’m looking at you aqua breather) , I was in the winning WvW server last tournament and currently tournament too (go HoD
) and finished the meta on both in the first couple weeks, now I’m logging just to maintain the daily and do a couple world bosses and guild events on weekends, then I go play another game, and waiting for the grand opening of the LS season 2.
I am with you 100%.
Very soon, this thread will be locked and you will be asked to post in the ’Where’s new content (merged)’ thread.
We don’t need another thread about this.
Thank you for your contribution.
Hey Anet Folks, I have enjoyed playing GW2 since early access and I have amassed over 3,300 hrs doing so. I have crafted 2 legendaries and full ascended weapons and/or armor in all disciplines, leveled 10 toons to 80, completed the world twice, been part of great guilds in three different servers, beaten people silly in tPvP, won the first WvW for our server, commanded and lead a large guild, done all dungeon paths and hundreds of fractals. It has been great. However, as of late, some of my long GW2 friends and I have been lacking the fun in the game. We go by the motions, log on, chat a bit, do a dungeon run or two, some roaming, reset on Friday. But it truly sounds like people do this because they have nothing better to do, not because they particularly enjoy playing the game these days.
The recent wardrobe update was fun and all, but it was not really new content. In the almost two years since the game released, there have been lots of changes but, with the exception of EOTM, no real new content. There has been some tweaking of the pre-existing content, but nothing new, such as professions, races, maps, etc.
With the release of Wildstar next month, things may be changing for you guys. People have been reluctant to go back to WoW, but Wildstar may indeed take a lot of your players. The subscription price does not look so bad anymore, when the creators of the game are offering the players a chance to pay for their subscription by playing. They also assure people that by charging a subscription they can focus on developing new content instead of new stuff to sell in an in-game shop.
So, long story short, I believe GW2 is going to take a hit soon. The old school guys like me are already looking elsewhere, even though we all love the game. But, without new, real content, there is a very good chance we will go away. And, as you know, it is hard to get players back once they have stepped away for a while. So, regardless of 2 years not being too long, new content in the form of an expansion, as soon as possible would be my advice to you.
As a more short-term, feasible piece of advice, lately, in spite of the big wardrobe update, your 2-week update schedule has been very erratic. Need to fix that. I would suggest that you guys start giving proper heads up to players about what is coming and exactly when.

Anet fan club and under the table employees should stop commenting on the forum. If a person expresses a bit of disappointment because he/she made arrangements to play a video game, least you can do is sympathize. Anet has released patches most commonly at 9am Pacific, which is 5pm UK. He/she has a right to be disappointed, if not necessarily upset about this one.
You would also think that a serious company like anet would have the patch finished and tested long before release date. But this last minute hold up makes players nervous because they fear, and rightly so, that the update will not be a finished product and patch after patch will follow (say when you are about to cap SMC).
So, in short, sorry for the wasted day, my friend. Everyone else, start your own thread if you feel so inclined to express your condescending opinions in this forum.
And, for the record, it truly exhausts me beyond belief when people just tru to sound smart and question people’s good intentions in the forums. If you have something to contribute, do so, but do not make assumptions about others.
Instead of asking me why I care, just think about the fact that this has been already acknowledged as a problem by Anet, who fixed the issue hours into the release. Now, in order to advance the thread is to know if and how will Anet compensate players for this.
Once a bug has been fixed in the past, Anet has either taken action to compensate players or has not. In this case, my belief is that they should. I do not need more charged quartz. As I said, I have plenty I mined over the months. But I do not believe the players who took advantage of the bug should have many.
Maybe replace 9 out of each 10 for a regular quartz for those who openened gifts during the bug? I know some of that quartz may be gone by now and this is a tricky issue. But I am just don’t think Anet should completely ignore it.
Actually I did not take advantage of the bug at all. I do not know where in this thread that you have carefully read I indicated so.
Nonetheless, the point is that I believe Anet should do something about this. I proposed a couple of solutions and I do not know how hard it is to implement. I know there have been things like this such as when the elonian wine cost twice its regular price. Players who bought it during that period were refunded the gold. Now, I know that is probably simpler than the quartz situation. But not addressing it at all simply because it is tricky seems pretty unfair.
I know this sounds whiny. And it probably is. But I have a hard time seeing people being rewarded for doing nothing with something a few of us have been allocating time every day to do.
To be fair, it was any gifts, not just those obtained with glory.
100% true but my focusing in the glory is because I do not have a problem with gifts acquired in the new event via farming the event (the ugly sweaters and such). The problem I have with glory is because a lot of us were sitting on big piles of it and did not even know what to do with it until this. All of the sudden people got an insane return in their accumulated glory with the charged quartz return.
Elestian explained it very eloquently. Consequently, I do not understand why you do not see how it affects the people who mined it. The people who mined it were doing so, so they could eventually craft celestial for their characters. Celestial is supposed to be crafted by those who put the time and effort to mine it. It is pretty simple. It is not for those who opened 200+ gifts bought with glory, in a bugged event. We play with but also against each other. We dedicate a lot of time to this. And our efforts to put ourselves in an advantageous position matter to us. This is an MMO and that is what these games are all about. You put the time, you get your reward. If you do not do that, then you do not deserve to get the same results as those who do. This bug put an unfair imbalance in something that was meant to be hard to acquire.
If that proves difficult, another solution would be to award the average drop of charged quartz during the bug to those players who have been converting the quartz consistently since the beginning.
Folks at Anet, the charged quartz return from your patch after buying gifts from glory was bugged as you well know. I have religiously been crafting my daily charged quartz for months, so I would be one of those people who really tried to have celestial in the game. Now you have all these folks who never did that, sitting on nearly 100 charged quartz just from opening gifts, able to craft whatever celestial they wish, only because they were bugged for a few hours.
Just like you have done in the past with other items, I would like to see you go into these people’s inventory, pull out the charged quartz they obtained during the bug and exchange it for the unopened gifts with their current return.
Thank
haha, sure! People logging in for a minute on a work day at 10am and find themselves stuck for 40 minutes and they have no right to kitten?
Or, you could just wait until you get home and get the achievement then. The fireworks show is occurring every 2 hours until Monday morning. If people are taking the day off from work or risking their jobs over an achievement in a game, then that’s just downright sad. There’s nothing ArenaNet can do about people making poor decisions.
lol, you must be either retired or a jobless student.
Yes, obviously. Those are the only two explanations for why I’m logged on at the moment. A few other possibilities: I’m in a different time zone than you are, I happen to have the day off, I may be self-employed, I might be on my lunch break. I’m sure I could come up with several other possible explanations for why I’m logged in at this hour (not that it’s any of your business or concern).
Oh, man, how long are you going to go down this path? People want immediate gratification. That is the way of western civilization as of 2013. People want the kitten reward and they are logging in for that. I have no problem with it. If they are sitting in the office and they take second to do that, who can blame them? And, if they do not get, who can blame them for kittening a bit about it? Why take that away from them as well?
There are always the two or three people who always take the antagonizing stand and don’t let people voice their concerns, as if they had been giving a debate topic and had to come up with arguments to contradict everyone. Are these people expecting a deluxe upgrade from anet or are they just in anet’s payroll already?
Let people vent a bit. If you do not like it, go elsewhere. Bottom-line is that this is yet another screw up from anet. Is it a big deal? No. But is it a screw up? Yes. So, let people do what people do. You can start you own thread singing the praises of sitting in front of an idling game for 40 minutes in the morning of a work day.
lol, you are a dev, right? I always knew there were some of you posting incognito in the forums.
I’m a dev because I’m not jumping on the rage train with the other impatient members of the community about a late fireworks show in a game? Yeah ok. How dare I respond in a calm, rational manner!
Public Relations and Developers are different. Public Relations rep should be the one posting while the devs work.
Yes, thank you for that. I’m well aware of the difference. The post I responded to clearly stated “devs.”
Anet’s policy thus far has been to never take the blame for any of their screw ups. They never provided timely notices for things like this. When the official word comes out, it will be something in the line of “people misunderstood – it is not our fault.”
You do know this is a game, right?

Nice waste of 45 minutes. Thanks for being professional.
45 minutes? It hasn’t even been 30 minutes yet.
fireworks just bugged. a dev or mod could come here and explain something. gg bug wars 2
Wouldn’t it be a better use of the dev’s time to work on fixing it and then posting about it?
lol, you are a dev, right? I always knew there were some of you posting incognito in the forums.
They told me that the anet fireworks guy will also be in charge of the 4th of july fireworks in dc.
Of course I did not use dusk. I know the game insideout.
And your message goes in line with the trend in these forums, where folks find the problems in everything instead of brainstorming solutions, contributing nothing to the threads people start with all good intent.
I never bought dusk. It dropped. And I never used dusk. Thus your phone comparison is complete nonsense.
And FYI. Rich economies ARE already speculating in the BLTC. Did you notice?
(edited by earvinarp.6347)
I have not thought this through and I do not know the pros and cons, and the consequences of doing it. But I have had dusk for quite a while now and, in the meantime, I have grown fond of the juggernaut. So, I am thinking about exchanging dusk for the colossus. Dusk is more valuable than the colossus in the BLTC, but, if I try to sell it and then buy the other one, I am short due to the transaction fees.
Would it be not a nice option to be able to exchange items of more value for items of less value, maybe getting some gold compensation in the process, which then could be taxed?
Please, forum fellows, tell me why this would be a terrible idea.
Oh, so we agree? That was one of my original suggestions. Did you read my entire post?
I disagree. There is a clear encouragement right now to play one character only in wvw.
Anet’s primary goal is to keep people playing and interested. Rewarding having secondary active characters makes perfect sense for them. I do not understand why people always have to look at things from the point of view of “if they did this, they would forcing us to…” No one is forcing anyone to do anything. The suggestion is to encourage players to try all facets of the game, not force anyone to do anything.
The problem with the gems is no problem, as we are already required to get gems for multiple things. That changes nothing.
The issue with rewarding people for playing multiple characters would in no way affect people who want to play only one. And it does make perfect sense for anet to do it from a financial point of view. It also makes sense as it allows players to fully enjoy the game they worked so hard in developing. And, in addition, they are already rewarding multiple character players a bit. I just want more.
In addition, the title I entered may be wrong, as the content of my proposal is about playing multiple characters, not necessarily all professions.
Actually, if you play the slots they give you, overtime, buying the gems with gold for the extra characters is extremely easy. This does not come anywhere close to forcing players to buy anything. I have never bought anything other than the original game and I have been able to get gems consistently without much effort other than following the story.
Since day one, I was interested in playing all eight professions as the game feels differently with each. Over time, I leveled up all but 2, who are now nearing 80. I even completed the whole story with three of them. Playing all professions has been a rewarding experience in terms of enjoyment and gaining knowledge of any foe I may encounter in wvw and pvp. In that sense, it pays off. However, as far as rewards go, it hardly pays off to play more than one character. I do not believe anet is encouraging people to do so with their reward system. You see many players out there, who have been around for a long time, who basically use one hero at all times. It is especially noticeable now in wvw, where xp and leveling are character specific. My highest wvw character is 11, while I have the other 7 between 1 and 8 or so. Had I been playing only one guy, I’d be way higher. This is clealy discouraging me from running wvw with anyone but one character, albeit I believe it makes sense to bring different guys in different instances. It also happens to be harder to gear up you main characters if you are trying to gear all of them a the same time. In addition, I have been in legendary path for a while and am very close to completion, and I feel there is hardly anything playing 8 professions has contributed to attaining this goal.
So, while I do not request anything dramatic to happen, I believe anet should reward players who play more than one hero consistently. Maybe allow them to move wvw xp. Maybe give them a better chance of finding magic when several characters are used consistently over the course of a week or so. Maybe make dailies character specific. I know dungeons rewards are character specific and that is a plus. But even that is not encouraging players to use their alternates to their full extent.
I believe it is indeed in anet’s interest that people play more than one guy. It only makes sense that they start rewarding multiple character players consistently for it. After all, I love running my mesmer or my elementalist instead of having the guardian or ranger all the time. But I am not being encouraged to do so.
Thanks
I am also missing that last 1-2%. WvW rotation is probably the way to go. I do runs with strong guilds and can capture one or 2 pois here and there. But eternal battlegrounds will be a high task to complete. Advice is, always get the available pois, WP and vistas on any character when they are available. Skill points is not so crucial.
But I do agree WvW points should contribute to world completion. Keep in mind that legendary path is the main motivation for many players. I believe that makes people more eager to compete and organize in WvW.

This has happened to me, playing with English speaking players. I am Spanish-English bilingual. I do not understand why them being/speaking Spanish has anything to do with it. fotm veterans are like kittens. They like it the way they like it. And they will not accept playing it any other way. They do not have patience for players who are learning and do not care about dropping, if that saves them 5 minutes.
The forum just transformed the abbreviation of national socialist into kittens. That is either censorship overkill or wishful thinking.

I got a Dusk drop not long ago. So, considering it was selling for 700 gold, yeah, you are much better off being lucky. You will not accumulate 700 gold by just playing standard style.
Yes you will, it will just take a while.
Haha, no you will not. I have played since day 1 and, if you are working towards a goal, say crafting or acquiring exo gear or legendary, you simply will not. You must get lucky, such as with a drop or in the mystic forge. That is, unless you are wearing greens in all your character, minor runes and sigils and save every single coin you collect.

GW2 evolves the more you play it. Also the different professions have markedly different playing styles. Once you get to 80, you will see that your priorities change and that the game feels completely different. I do suggest having at least one of each profession with heavy/medium/light armor. Elementalist may have the highest learning curve but it is extremely dynamic and fun to play (double dagger).
As far as experienced players helping beginners, I have a guild dedicated to that and, the good thing about it, is that you never feel you are wasting your time. Say that someone wants to level a lower level character. You can also take one of yours along and both level up at the same time. So, there is not much waste. You also accumulate guild influence by doing stuff with beginners in your guild.
Very we thought out game. If anything, be wary of trolls and people who want to provoke you, as anet are very trigger happy in the suspension department, this being a non-subscription game.
In my opinion the validity of your question stands only if a specific example is presented. Some cases that you consider to be trolling might not be trolling. Specific cases of trolling can be reported as “harassment” (for example, a person is following you around on every map you go to and is attempting to kill off enemies before you get to them so your question would take longer). Some specific trolling examples can be worthy of a discussion (example: in a moba if you go afk and do nothing trough out the whole match, just taking up space you can be reported for that. I imagine if a person was doing so specifically in spvp, moving his character from time to time so he wouldn’t be logged off, but just standing in the base, so that his team would feel like they are one guy short) it’s not a reportable offense, but there we could have an actual discussion should it be or not. So the validity of your post completely depends on in depth examples that you can provide
You misunderstood the thread, which is understandable considering all the distractions. Nonetheless, this has truly run its course. Thanks for contributing.
How do you close a thread?
It makes perfect sense that you feel that way. After all, we all, eventually, will leave Guild Wars 2 behind. Still, at the end of the day, many of us will have dedicated more hours to this game than to anything else in months, maybe years.
Anet will not be concerned about losing players as long as new people are coming in. And they still are. You see them in Queensdale, Wayfarer Hills, Metrica… getting crushed by lvl 8 NPCs.
It will all come down to the kind of effort we see from the developers to keep people hooked, how good the updates are and the expansions they release. As long as they are selling copies, that will not be a priority. But, if Living Story is to be an example, many more people will be out soon.
The trolling has to do with concluding an event many players are working hard trying to keep alive. Then some players, with dedication (it cannot be done by accident), work on finishing the event and ruining it for the rest, even when everybody is nicely asking them to stop. It also has to do with dropping wrong consumables and spamming banners in dense farming areas.
so you were exploiting an event and the dude decided to finish it? So he played the game as it was intended and you’re mad with him?
Haha, thank you for your rhetoric. It was about 40 of us farming an event and 2 or 3 finishing it, when we were asking them not to (mind you, these folks also use the same event for farming for themselves too). It also involved dropping banners and consumables that directly affected those people were intending to use. But, yes, you are correct. I hope you feel as wise and vindicated as you probably deserve.
Still, be aware that there is no such thing as a way to play the game. That is what Anet tells us and how they make their money.
still remember that for exploits you get banned and such bugs get fixed. I think I know the event you’re talking about and I hope it will be fixed so it wouldn’t spawn a never ending number of enemies. You have no right to complain about a dude that actually finished the event as it was intended. Trolling or not, there’s nothing in the rules against him and there’s something in the rules against you.
This is my example. The original intent of the thread had no example. It was a general question. While I do agree this one case is likely not a suspension worthy situation, there are other in which trolling can be so, such as hindering pvp play. So, the validity of my concern and question stands. It is your choice to play devil’s advocate and you have a winning argument. The reality is that mmos are live entities and the players mold it, just like real life. Hindering an event people have decided to play in a certain way is just not what you should be doing, albeit you can do it.

Katreyn, you are correct. Making a video or taking some shots would probably be the only option. But I doubt they would carefully review any of these things at Anet. If someone drops an insult, it is very easy to track and relatively easy to quantify. Hindering game play for other involves someone reviewing a lot of things, and it will not be done. While Anet does have a rule book they stick to it for so called justice, they mainly stick to it to save themselves time and effort. It also completely obliterates any possible legal action against them. After all, we know swearing in this Country is the devil, right?
Anyway, that is off topic. I have to assume there is no such way to report a troll that would not involve an elaborate plan. So, yes, agreeing with you all, ignoring them and blocking them as much as possible is the way to go.
See you in a couple of days. Hit me up for some dungeon action.
I do not want to turn this thread into a venting or unsolicited advice thread. I know the game. I have 4300+ achievement points and I am a gw1 veteran. I am also over 30 years old and, trust me, I knew I was not using clear judgement when I insulted these people. Albeit anet was too trigger happy, I am deserving of the suspension and gladly taking a break. Matter of fact, I just got the phone number of a very nice Russian girl in a coffee shop. I would not have been there had I been playing. So, I am not looking for pity or people reminding me what I did wrong.
My question is basically whether anyone knows of trolls getting banned for disruptive game play. Is there a precedent to that? That is all.

The trolling was in game play, not communication. Thus the blocking does not really apply here. Obviously avoiding cursing and raging is easier said than done, but I get it – I am not arguing that.
