I especially love that if I get busy IRL I don’t fall behind with gear. I never feel “less” than anyone else. I also love all the things we have to do in the game. It’s not only an endless fight for gear.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this. I just wanted to hear others opinions. And yes, just a flesh wound, I’m probably going to pick an enameled or electro color. Interestingly enough those are what I’ve been going back and forth with. :-D

I just recently decided to use my level 80 boost. Now though I’m torn between a couple of the dye packs. I’m not sure which one I want. Now I’m definitely not wanting anyone to tell me which to choose. I’ll make my own decision but……

Which dye pack did you choose when using your boost…..and are you happy with your choice?

Some of you have mentioned your guild using guild chat. I’ve been looking for a guild that does that. I’m much more comfortable with guild chat instead of teamspeak all the time. I don’t mind using teamspeak for running group events but just to be on it all the time while playing……shudder! Does anyone have recommendations?

My experience…….I’ve been playing GW2 for about a year and just recently bought season 2. I haven’t even played through it yet either. It’s not really necessary for any game play. Obviously it does help immensely with storyline and lore though.

LF a guild that uses guild chat more

I used to be in a guild that would pay attention to guild chat. Actually we paid attention and usually typed Hi to people when they logged on. I don’t want to always be on teamspeak or the like because it breaks my immersion in the game but the guilds I’ve been in have most if not all communication that way. If I ask one question in guild chat it’s hardly ever answered or if it is it takes forever for them to notice….usually by that time I’ve moved on.

I’d love to find a medium sized guild that pays more attention to guild chat. I understand while running fractals, dungeons, and group events teamspeak works perfectly. But I’d love a NA guild that talks more in guild chat while running around the world.

Team vs. Solo: Which Do You Prefer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

faunabay.9320

For those who don’t understand people who want to play solo in a multiplayer game……… I wouldn’t want the game to have only myself in it. That would be boring to me. I like being able to talk with people, ask questions, say hi. I like seeing others running around in the world. And yes I like grouping up to take down a world boss.

But while questing and running around leveling I like solo. I like to be able to go where I want at the pace I want without having to slow someone else down. I like not having to wonder which direction my group or partner is going. At the same time I’ll be one of the first to go help someone when they ask in chat for help. I’ll help but then go on my way solo again. ;-)

I mostly like solo but would love to find a guild or group of people who talk (type) now and again in game chat. I really don’t like to be on teamspeak or some such voice channel because it’s so………much.

I’ve been in games where I min maxed and ran high end raids. It was a lot of fun at the time but I play GW2 specifically NOT to do that anymore.

I love that you can level up just by exploring! And I specifically love there’s no gear to fall behind in if you take a month or so off. I’m much more laid back and having fun with GW2!

I haven’t done any LS content, other than my personal story, so how long would it take me to get through season 2 if I didn’t rush through? If I’m going to do it I want to take my time. Could I do season 2 and catch up with season 3 in time to finish with everyone else?

I figured I might as well add another female gamer to the list.

My human male is carefully designed blond, athletic, bronzed warrior dressed in the skimpiest heavy armor I had for him. We women can be just as bad as the men when it comes to inappropriately dressing characters.

One reason I don’t play a lot of males is I dislike the general appearance and animations for them. The Norn males are just lumbering hulks I have tried them and I just can’t stomach the way they move.

I don’t have many but all my characters are female. While I am female irl I have tried a few males but like you (and others) have said they just don’t move or look right. Now that you given me the idea I may need to try again and make myself a man candy character though. :-D

Ok I feel like such a noob!! I am semi-new……have only been playing for a little over a year but that whole time I had no idea we had a home instance. Ack! I just read something about it in the last couple of days.

I’ve done a little research and haven’t found out much about it so thought I’d ask here. My main is Asura and while my personal story took me back to the Applied Laboratory quite a few times in the earlier levels there was nothing that I noticed saying that it could be personalized.

Can someone fill me in a bit? I watched a YouTube video that talked about it but it just showed some of the different things you could get. It didn’t talk about how you could get them. What do I do with it? Haha

I’m semi-new too and completely love it! I found the sticky threads in the “player helping player” forum to be extremely helpful. There are some great hints there. Plus of course the newbie videos on YouTube. :-) Really the threads helped the most though.
I don’t know which game(s) you played before but this one is different in that the focus truly is on having fun and not rushing through things. One of the things I liked doing while playing wow (I played for quite a few years) was exploring and finding all the new places. But that was discouraged because of the rush, rush to get new gear and to stay up with everyone else. GW2 rewards you for exploring! Yay!
One of thing biggest things I had to let go of though was the fear of not doing “it” right. In wow if you didn’t gear, gem or etc correctly you got huge amounts of grief. Here I feel like I can truly experiment and play however I want to. Of course I’m sure that would change if I wanted to get into the high end raids or such but for now I’m playing how I like and not worrying about what anyone else thinks. I must be doing something right though because I’ve gotten a few “nice job” comments after some group fights. Woohoo!
Anyway my biggest suggestion is to play however you want and just have fun!

Can't seem to find my "calling" in this game.

I’m like you too bacon. I also like ranged more than melee. I also tried out quite a few professions and couldn’t seem to find one that ‘fit’ at first. First I did try a Ranger because my main in wow was a Hunter. But that just didn’t feel right in GW2.
Then I tried a Mesmer. I liked her……took her to 35ish but then lost some interest. So I tried an Elementalist. Meh….. But then I tried Necromancer and found my Asura Necro stuck with me more. I use dagger and war horn with a staff as my secondary weapon. Most of the attacks are ranged and I get to have a pet to tank for me. :-D I do plan on continuing with my Mesmer once I get my Necro to 80 because I did like it. I just found the Necro more fun right off.
Anyway because we seem to have similar likes and dislikes in play style I thought I’d suggest what I’ve found to be fun. Maybe try a Necromancer and see what you think. Just my two cents though. :-) Have fun and I hope you find your “place”.

faunabay.9320

Thanks for all the encouragement! I’ve found the GW2 environment to be much more friendly than WOW and I appreciate it immensely! I like running dungeons when you’re with a fun group but it’s hell when you’ve got elitist jerks.

I am in a friendly guild but most of the regulars are running more end content that I’m too small for right now. I will check for groups who say they’re looking for fun dungeons runs. I don’t have a problem being honest and saying its my first time but didn’t want any flack because of it.

I think what it is with me is I’m loving the game so much and didn’t want to have anything ruin it. I guess I just need to get over myself and go for it! Haha

enjoy the game mentality in dungeons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

faunabay.9320

I’m a semi-new player with a question. I played WOW for quite a few years and while it was fun there was always that focus/push to build your gear to the best possible so you could be a strong player. What I enjoy most about GW2 is the focus is more on enjoying the game……playing how you want to, not a specific way to be a ‘perfect’ player. I love this!!!

But I have also read some people’s comments about getting kicked out of dungeons for not playing well enough or not doing things the way they should. I absolutely would try to contribute to the group but am a little hesitant to even try GW2 dungeons because of the nastiness that I experienced with pug dungeon and raid groups in WOW. Yes I was a member of a serious and successful raid group at one time but totally stopped LFG because of how horrible it was. And playing GW2 I do have that hold over worry that I won’t do things ‘correctly’. So anyway this is my long winded way of asking if the ‘enjoy the game’ mentality extends to dungeons in GW2? …..Or are the world bosses and spontaneous groupings that happens in game more enjoyable than the dungeons? What are your experiences and opinions?

I’m another that came over from WoW. I’d been frustrated with WoW for quite a while and looking for a game I could sink into and enjoy. After trying a few others I broke down, bought this one and haven’t been disappointed at all. I love this game!! I like the way it works for questing. I also really like all the jump puzzles and exploring the different areas and vistas. And while the starting areas are not difficult they’re also not face roll easy like WoW’s are.

I started with Ranger because my main from WoW was/is a hunter. I did like it but after reading what many people said I started a Guardian too. I only took both up to about lvl 10 then started a Norn Mesmer. I LOVE playing her!! I still only have her up to 17 but I’m having a ton of fun playing Mesmer.
