Courtyard is hated by many, including myself. But if Anet were to support TDM by adding more maps and putting it in its own queue, I would actually queue up for it. Maybe instead of having unranked and ranked queues, it could have 2v2 and 3v3 queues.
Edit: Even 5v5 would be fine if all 10 participants wanted to be there and were running builds for it. The biggest problem with CY/TDM is that it is in the same queue with maps that belong to another mode. Almost everyone is in it for Conquest. Allow TDM to be by itself and maybe a community would form around it.
why is it hated?
I remember many GW players requesting this kind of game mode at launch a few years back because people wanted something like RA.
I just recently started playing again, and just found out that they included one TDM map which I am so happy to see. It was pretty reminiscent to GW1 days with Random Arenas and so I am definitely enjoying it so far.
Will there be more TDM maps in the future?
I believe its more of a nightmare now because as they change skills, they have to consider both pve and pvp.
Separating it would probably make their life much easier.
GW1 had PVP only skills, and changed around skills that acted differently in pvp than it did in pve.
It was the smartest thing they done. Not sure why they won’t do that with gw2
I have to revive this thread because I want to play and enjoy GW2 but it is so hard whenever i get motion sickness from all the zoom snapping the camera does when it collides with something as small as a rock.
Any updates if the camera collision detection will be tweaked??? I haven’t played this game in 8 months, and I logged in a week ago and realized its still there….Please please ANET, fix it :[
Guild Wars 1’s PvP is vastly superior than Guild Wars 2. ..
Why are you comparing it to WoW anyways?
Guild Wars 1’s PVP is vastly superior than GW2 . Not just the builds, but the various game modes that were available to you had more content than GW2.
I suppose they could, if ANET actually had a team working on the PvP portion of the game :]
Yes it is dead especially if they can’t fix the basic issues of the game like the camera collision. My god it is horrible seeing the camera go crazy by zooming in and out just because a few physical objects are in the way of the camera.
Its been 2 months…but the game has also been in development for about 5 years.
I haven’t played this game in around a month because the camera is horrible. I recently tried to play it again..the camera collision is still horrible, and I couldn’t play it anymore.
Sigh* ..Any idea if that will be fixed or minimized?
Does ANET know about this problem? Does this bother any of you?
Here is a very informative video about FOV that ANET needs to understand.
Kodan and Tengu
Sure its a response, but it doesn’t seem very sincere, rather some kind of excuse just so they don’t have to fix the camera other than the smoothing.
I like how Jon Peters tries to show us that they play other games like Half Life and are aware of what FOV is like, but he is also forgetting that Half Life was a game made about 10 years ago, and was made for monitors that are full screen. Play on a fullscreen monitor with 75 FOV, then try a widescreen monitor with 75 FOV, you will see a difference.
I’m personally not grateful for the response either because it is insulting. People can already hack or find ways to increase FOV like using windowed mode. Was there a performance drop? Did it effect gameplay? I don’t think so. It just makes the game less nauseating..
Anyway…what about the snap/zoom camera collision with objects in the game? That definitely needs to be fixed.
I personally stopped playing because of the lack of PvP content, and buggy camera…just waiting on these things to be fixed, then i’ll definitely start playing this game again.
Perhaps I’m the extreme minority but I’ve had no issues with the camera. Feels fine. The only thing I don’t like is the glitchy graphics when you get near walls and tight spaces, floors disappear etc.
This doesn’t bother you?
(edited by gene helo.1590)
Patiently waiting on FOV slider, increased zoom distance, and the camera collision to be fixed. The game isn’t that fun when you get a headache from it.
I really don’t understand how they think the camera is not a priority.. This has been addressed since BWE1 and we still haven’t seen any improvements at all.
Strawman argument much? When did I say that? Oh, I didn’t. I was talking about making an educated purchase choice. I can actually infer whether I will enjoy a game beforehand 95% of the time. I can’t remember when I last purchased a game I didn’t enjoy.
I don’t think you know what a strawman argument is.
You’re implying that watching X amount of videos and reading X amount of articles about a game from other people’s opinions will ultimately decide you will enjoy the game before playing it. I’m sorry but whatever you enjoy doesn’t work that way until you try it out yourself.
Their opinion isn’t yours. They are playing it, and not you. Everything can sound so great on paper, and that is why Raging Bull is disappointed with the game. Everything sounded and looked exactly what he would probably enjoy, but the execution wasn’t what he expected, and that is why hes disappointed.
I don’t see what is so difficult to understand here..
You don’t need a crystal ball, you could’ve just watched the hundreds of youtube videos that had in-depth information about every aspect of the game. Yes, they did show the dungeons, the de’s, and the PvP. You can really only blame yourself for not taking the time to make an educated purchase choice.
Watching someone play isn’t playing the game..
You don’t watch someone speed run a game of Castlevania, and claim you beat it…do you?
Try to address your concerns in these two threads. The more vocal we are about it, the better.
One last thing, I know I whine and that I’m not bringing anything constructive to the table (I completely agree with OP with what has to be done) but we all heard in the interviews with Anet developers that they played the game for many years before it came out and still enjoy it, all this time in game, and NOONE noticed that the camera and controls are subpar?
It is interesting you bring that up. I don’t think many people notice how bad the camera is for some reason, which is the weirdest thing for me. I brought it up in a chat in GW2 yesterday, and there were several people saying that they actually have no problem with the camera, which I have no idea why. A lot of them claimed they played other MMOs, and GW1, and said the camera is no different to them in GW2.
I was actually surprised to hear this, because if anyone thinks that the camera in GW1 and GW2 are the same either has no idea what they are talking about, or truly can not see the difference at all..because they are seriously night and day when you compare the two games.
I have a Logitech G500, and it has happened to me too.
Though, its not just GW2, but it has done it with other games like Quake Live..so I’m not too sure if my mice is dying or GW2 caused my mice to bug out especially in other games..Weird :[
The thing is, it doesn’t happen in desktop, only when im gaming.
This needs to be official along with other camera issues that need to be fixed
I don’t know if I’m trippin, but I think they increased the camera distance by a bit, and actually increased FOV. I feel like I see more…

But I guess as we are just a few hundred ppl who have this problem, and the rest of 1.99 milion do not, we are just colateral damage.
You would be surprised that there is a lot more than just a few hundred people complaining. I’ve seen chats in game about people talking about how bad the camera is, I’ve seen multiple posts on reddit, and other gw2 fan sites addressing their concerns about the camera as well and all my friends who play it know it sucks.
I’m also pretty sure there is a decent amount of people out there who knows the camera design is screwed up, but aren’t the type to be vocal about it in the forums.
Arena was a mistake in WoW (Blizzard admits this), and has no place here. In short, no.
Ehh, you have no idea what you’re talking. WoW’s PvP shouldn’t be compared to GW2…
If anything you should be comparing the PvP to the first GW.
Arena PvP was an important part of GW1, and it should be as well in GW2.
Where is the fixed camera/fov slider/increased zoom distance?
Once you find the 2nd teamof scientists, and after you kill the mini-boss., the NPCs stand there and you cannot progress to the next waypoint.
Already played it 3 times. NPCs are bugged
Ugh. It is really hard to patiently wait for these camera issues to be fixed because Its difficult to enjoy the game with the frustrating camera behavior. Hasn’t this been addressed during the beta?
Is it Anet’s priority to get it fixed and implement a few things to the camera controls? Because honestly, the camera design should be priority and should have been fixed by now. If one guy was able to make the camera controls similar to Tera, then I really don’t know how a big team of developers hasn’t already fixed the camera issues by now(Sorry its just REALLY frustrating to play a game I want to play for long sessions)
Anet, please pelase please stop allowing the camera to act like a physical object in the game by snapping and zooming so close to your character when the camera runs into objects or walls in the game. It is essential for that to be corrected.

I’m pretty sure they will be if they explore the world of Cantha in an expansion.
If anything, I think there should be more skill sets per weapon, not just one. But I’m pretty sure Anet will release more skills in the future. They just want to start off with a low number of skills, and balance the game as much as they can, then they will work their way up.
Plus, there is the trait, rune, and sigil system that is actually pretty in depth with creating builds for your character.
Having so many skills can create problems balancing out pve and pvp. I remember in the first GW, there were IWAY builds that were completely OP in PVP, and it was impossible to win against that team. Then there was the annoying touch ranger in RA/TA. I mean, it was all really fun to create those unique builds..but i think its smart for Anet to start with a low number of skills now, then add on later.
Anet has made over 1200 skills for the GW, so im sure they have a lot in mind to bring into gw2, once they fix all the issues with the game.

I was actually thinking about this…
Crossbow for thieves would be great, though i don’t know what role you can play as a crossbow thief.
Do you want to test your builds? Use the Heart of the mist zone, you can freely experiment anything.
Clearly, they want you to stick with that build instead of respeccing every single minute.
Testing PVE builds don’t work too well in PVP
Yeah, this definitely needs to be implemented in the game especially with how the gameplay works. Its perfect.
and on top of that, hopefully they’re working on the camera behavior/zoom/controls/fov..
Adding boat fishing would be amazing!
I think in some places having boats on the water would be a little contrary to the aesthetics of the area, but certainly more things like the logs/fishermen out on the water in Queensdale would be nice.
I don’t know how well player boats would work though. What you may gain in the immersion of seeing someone boating rather than swimming you may lose in seeing a whole flotilla of small boats in populous areas.
Perhaps boating should only be in specific lakes, and would be of limited use. There could be an npc you can talk to, and rent out a boat for a limited time, and if there are too many players using it, it could either queue you to use a boat, or tell you to ask again.
I thought i saw a video where Anet said the amount of players would scale the amount of mobs spawned and their health too.
Yup. I realized its almost impossible to fail DE ..at least up to where I am. I’m only level 65.
in PVE? GvG is a PvP thing..
I’m pretty sure they might add that in an expansion if they explore the world of Cantha again. Kurzicks vs Luxons would be awesome in gw2
I feel like there needs to be more life on the lakes. It would be neat to see more NPCs sailing boats around the lakes and doing things.
And on top of that, it would be nice if you have the ability to use a boat, not for traveling faster, but for aesthetic purposes (i find it ridiculous seeing players swim 50 miles across a lake) and perhaps add fishing from your boat as an addition to gather more materials..
I’m already halfway to quit playing just because of the issues with camera
Movement controls (WASD) are a pita too. the character didn’t react in a linear way
to key presses which makes control movement just a pain. often times there is
no reaction at all and I have to press the key again to get my toon moving. I guess it’s
because some kind of animation-lock-out or something. sometimes my character
doesn’t move at all and I have to release key and press again to get it to move.
so annoying.“normal” behaviour in this game is like that:
press a key – wait 1/2 second – character starts to move.
release key – character still moves for 1/2 second before stopping.
and this without any lag!precise movement is impossible with that kind of behaviour!!
Jumping puzzles and vistas are a pain. I didn’t bother with them anymore.
Overall moving & fighting feels very sluggish, slow and often time unresponsive.
It’s just plain annoying and no fun at all. This already had poisoned my gameplay.
I only login occasionally to test if there were changes made in that regard.
In the current state, the game is unplayable for me.Because of a plethora of more pressing issues,
I have not much hope that this will get fixed soon.so sad.
Yeah, I’m not gonna lie. I kind of stopped playing because the camera behavior messes me up so much that its not even enjoyable anymore.
I want to keep playing, but as soon as I log in and move around…i start to get a headache. :[ …This is coming from someone that plays FPS games like Quake Live.
They had the right camera behavior in gw 1 seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfRBp5LX2Ss&feature=plcp
now look at it in gw2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWnk6CEniYw&feature=plcp
Alright, so I made these 2 videos just so Anet can get the idea of what is exactly wrong with their camera in GW2, and what they had right in the first GW. I posted this on here and on reddit, but it didn’t get much exposure. Hopefully this does since its an active topic.

Does this bug any of you? It bugs me, and should be fixed. Camera zoom in tight spaces
Posted by: gene helo.1590
Is there anyway for the camera to be kept zoomed out in tight spaces?
I don’t mind the current default distance the game has for you, although I do wish the FOV was wider, but that is another suggestion. haha.
Anyway, the suggestion is to allow an increased zoom distance for using ground targeted skills. I got this idea when I was playing one of my story missions where you have to use a trebuchet to shoot down a ship. When I had to use it, the camera distance zoomed out and I had a good view of where I am able to aim.
..now after seeing that, I thought it would make sense if it did something similar to ground targeted skills, and the amount of zoom distance would depend on how wide the range would be on that skill.
I feel like this would make the gameplay much more enjoyable.
Any thoughts?
Yes, Anet, PLEASE fix the camera issues. I don’t mind if you don’t want to have the camera zoom out more, although that would be really nice to have the game zoom out more, but at least fix the snapping and erratic camera movements, and allow players to adjust the FOV.
Anet, if you want to this to be a good e-sport game, then allowing players to have the option to change the FOV so it makes it easier for players to see what is going on in game is absolutely essential.
