It does suck that you’ll have to lose progress and items. But on the flip side, at least you still have your account.

That’s the worst part for me. Given the choices I have right now,. I"ll lose items/mats/gold either way. Feb 19. represents a huge step back in the game and not only would I lose about the same amount of gold/items/etc that the thief stole, but the bulk of my progress over the last 2+ months which is var more valuable.

And for the record, ANet appears to be just letting this issue quietly die….no one’s contacted me or done anything since Gaile’s post last week……if they are not going to make things right, they could at least they could come back and tell me that “Sorry, sucks to be you” but I haven’t even gotten that.

Good job ANet I’m glad you fixed this. I would’ve also hated to lose 2 months of progression especially since it’s been less then that that I got Bifrost.

I think you must have read something wrong or perhaps not read the entire thread. They haven’t fixed anything and every day I have to wait to hear what their research will turn up is another day of progress and accumulation of tokens/gold that I’ll have to lose if I do get to restore to sometime right before 4/22. While I appreciate Gaile’s initial attempts to help, there hasn’t been any progress made that I’m aware of,.

And yeah, losing 2 full months of Laurels, XP, AP, etc, etc. really would suck. Worse, in fact, then losing the gold/mats that they thief stole.

The thing most likely is that they have a policy to always roll back the account to the point before the first unauthorized access, just in order to sto kitten ues where users gain stuff because of the hacker.

I can assure you, I’m only going to lose no matter what decision they make at this point, it’s just a matter of how much at this point. I’m not sure how I could possibly “gain” stuff because I was hacked….guess I just don’t know that even means or don’t think that way.

Either I’ll lose this weeks progress which represents a fair amount of arah/cof tokens as well as everything else I’ve earned or I’ll lose everything the thief stole……there’s no outcome in which this benefits me that I can see here.

Ok..so you have been hacked twice, and got control back from the first hack without any support assistance. I guess that is where the problem is, and you need to prove that to support so they will change your restore point date.
I was just saying it seems an odd case where they see you have been hacked two months ago, and now hacked again. Maybe they are thinking the first hacker got some information from data stored in your emails or on your computer. I am just trying to understand what is going on with your account, because as I said before, the circumstances are very unusual.

To the best of my knowledge the timeline is this:
1. In early March the first sign that my account had been compromised appears (at least according to ANet’s logs, I had no clue) – BUT nothing was stolen nor did they do anything to my account that I noticed……and I would have noticed given how much I play..
2. There may have been logins from the oversea’s IP to my account many times (or not at all, support hasn’t said) before 4/22/13…this is up in the air for me
3. The oversea’s IP address finally changes my password, takes over the account, steals everything I own late 4/22 or early 4/23.
4. I attempt to log in on 4/23, realize I can’t and put a support ticket in
5. Support sends me a link to the email address I registered the game with which allows me to reset my password
6. I have now locked the account down, linked a mobile auth., ensured I have no viruses, etc. etc. but have still lost everything they stole.

While technically I was hacked once or more starting in early March leading up to 4/22, there was no malicious activity to my account before 4/22. My point here is that I shouldn’t be punished because a thief compromised my account before I had anything worth stealing. I wished he would have compromised my account in early march, stolen what little I had and then I could have rolled back to late Feb. and all is well. Unfortunately for me, the thief waited as I made tons of progress in the game on several toons and now the amount of progress constitutes a bigger loss than the gold itself would have.

I don’t know. IF you were hacked in Feb/Mar, how can Support know you aren’t the hacker wanting assistance, or wanting to have any even more control over the account. It seems odd that your account was hacked in February or March, and you were not aware someone else had control of it. Either the compromise didn’t happen until late April, or something very odd is going on here. I am sorry, but you may have to just choose between losing the gold, or losing the progress.

Well, unless the hackers also control the email address which I registered the game – which they don’t – or can provide the credit card number which I purchased the game with – which I can, they can’t – then I’d say it’s spectacularly easy for me to prove who I am and that I’m not the hacker. Aside from the fact that I can’t imagine a hacker drawing this much attention to an account that he’s compromised. I mean, what sense would that make?

harbinger.2698

To add to this, allowing an account to be restored to a later date, after an initial compromise, would be like letting the account holder keep all the hacker’s gains up to that point.

I have no idea what this means….the hackers didn’t take my character and run around farming all day when I wasn’t on leaving me all sorts of goodies to enjoy when I got back on……they stole everything I had worked for for months one time (4.22.13) and that was it. I was left with nothing. In no scenario would there be a potential for “gains” for me here……I either rollback to 2/19 and lose almost the entire game’s progress for me on top of all the gold/mats or they do right be me and I roll back to ~4/20 and I lose all this week’s progress (4 arah runs, several frac runs, countless COF, dailies, etc).

No matter what happens here, I will lose something. There is no potential for me to “gain” anything.

To be clear here, the support people said my account first showed signs of being compromised in early march. This is not something they told me until well into this back and forth process, btw. However, I hadn’t played very long at that point and I’m guessing I hadn’t accumulated enough wealth for them to bother with me. (Dunno, just my theory based on what they’ve told me). There were no signs or any indication from my end that someone had access to my account so from my perspective, it wasn’t until 4/22 when they took over the account and stole everything I had that my account had been compromised.

Now that I’ve gotten a new password, applied the mobile authenticator, ensured my computer’s virus/bot free I’m just looking to get rolled back to as close to the actual theft as possible.

Feb 19th is a completely pointless and hugely destructive date for me to roll back to as I had only played a month and a half at that point and I’d be down from 3800 achievement points, 99% map complete and level 30 personal frac reward level with 3 80’s and other toons to maybe 2 toons, 1 of which is 80 and having never run fracs at all. That would represent a far worse scenario than just losing hundreds of gold from the theft and moving on.

I’m not trying to “choose” a date to rollback to, I’m simply reporting that a theft occurred on 4/22/2013 and I’d like to be rolled back to as close to that date as possible.

Update: An agent just checked and it appears you can be restored to within 2 days of the hacking. Update your ticket if you need to, so that an agent can assist you.

And please give me the ticket number so I can troubleshoot any communication issue.

That would be wonderful if you could roll me back to within a couple days within the hack which occurred 4.22.13. I know the support ticket suggests my account was compromised before that, but as of 4/21/13 I hadn’t lost anything and would love to be rolled back to that date.

My ticket number is: 130422-002265

If you can restore me, please let me know, but I do have a question about gem purchases I’ve made After the hack to try and get my account back up and in order.

In the way of an update, I’ve heard from others where this occurred and they were able to roll back to within a few days of when the account was compromised. This leads me to ask the question of whether I’ve gotten bad information and I can be restored to a much more reasonable date or whether I’m the glitch in the system and most people can be backed up in a reasonable time or this is just the new level of support ANet provides. Even if I can’t be restored to within some days from when my account was hacked I’d still like to understand the situation better.

Every time (except for this one) I’ve read about someone getting a rollback due to account compromise, the player always seemed happy with the time at which the account was rolled back. I’ve seen days mentioned as the time frame but never months.

Well, if they take another look and can roll me back to within days of my account being hacked I’d call that acceptable service and be pleased with that result despite losing a few days of progress. Like I said though, I’m having them double check but the latest word is 2/19 is the latest date they can roll me back to.

I’ve asked the support guys to take another look, make absolutely sure that there’s not a more reasonable restore point but I’m not holding my breath. If I’m the anomaly and most people can be restored to within 3-7 days of their account being compromised then I’d say it sucks to be me but at least the system will account for most people appropriately.

However, if this is more the norm rather than the exception then I think ANet needs to take some pretty aggressive steps to address what is clearly a major deficiency in their account recovery strategy….one right now that is costing me and possibly many others a bunch.

I’ve posted this sentiment elsewhere, but I’ve been directed by support to place my suggestion in this forum. So, here it is. Long story short:

Despite having a very strong password and taking all the necessary precautions I thought were appropriate, my account was hacked, they stole everything I had. I still have no idea how it happened, but suffice to say, it did.

This sort of thing apparently is somewhat common for MMO games and most companies have a strategy to handle this situation when it occurs.

When I contacted ANet support about my situation, I was told I could absolutely roll my account back to a previous date. Great, problem solved, right? Problem is, they can only roll me back to 2/19/13….losing almost 2 full months of progress.

Basically, their strategy to deal with this issue would cause me to lose almost as much gold/mats/etc. as what the thief stole, not to mention I’d lose all leveling, map completion, XP, AP, etc. progress

I love the game. It’s the best MMO I’ve ever played….except for this. Arena Net is wildly out of sync with the type of support their direct competition offers in these situations and that’s left me with a very bad taste in my mouth and makes me rethink spending my time, real money and energies into a game where I’m left virtually unprotected with no failsafe in case the worst happens.

Anyway, I was told to post this where the developers might get a chance to consider what I feel is a completely inadequate strategy and level of support to deal with these situations.

To be clear here, I write software for a living so I’m very cognizant of how to be secure and what to look for. I had a very strong mixed case alphanumeric password. It wasn’t a word or name, it was random numbers and letters. I know better than to fall for phishing scams and I have a firewall and anti-virus software installed on my computer. Even with all that, it still happened and it could happen to anyone. Just because it hasn’t doesn’t mean that it won’t.

Since this is apparently a common threat to MMO gamers and Arena Net knows this, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect them to take some precautions against this and account for this happening. In this regard, they completely failed since I would literally lose almost as much gold/mats/etc ON TOP OF the XP, AP, Map completions that I had achieved by rolling back. This seems like a huge oversight and speaking as a programmer, a relatively easy thing to fix.

Capture the person’s state each time they log out, retain the last 2 or 3 states at most and then roll back to that state when needed. I’m sure there are some considerations I’m unaware of but the basic premise is pretty simple and would have made a bad situation for me and many others not quite so terrible.

The only unacceptable thing here really is the fact that you would blame ArenaNet for your own faults.

Ok, that comment is just plain stupid. Whether or not I took all the right precautions (I can assure you I did, I’m still baffled by how it occurred), a corporation has a responsibility to their customers to provide a reasonable level of support to their customers and one that is comparable to the level of service their competitors provide if they want to stay in business long term. This sort of thing can happen to the most educated and prepared person and just because it didn’t happen to you yet doesn’t mean it won’t.

For the sake of argument, if it did manage to happen to you and you had the choice of losing hundreds of golds or to restore to an image several months in the past which would also result in losing hundreds of gold I’m sure you wouldn’t be sitting there saying, “well, it’s my own fault” after all.

So a couple days ago my account was hacked. Some thief stole around ~200 gold worth of stuff from my toons and pretty much had me questioning why continue to play this game if it’s that easy for someone to steal my account and my time.

Still, I thought that Arena Net would be able to restore my account and while I might lose a day or two of progress….perhaps even a week if I was unlucky…. that things would still work out.

Turns out that Arena Net has failed us all, however. The best they are current able to support, at least in my case, was a back up that would cause me to lose more than 2 MONTHS of progress, gold, items, etc which is almost as bad – and in some ways worse – than what the thief did.

Competing products like WoW can roll you back to within a last login/logout and the best that Arena Net can offer is to lose literally moths of progress? Am I crazy or does that seem completely unacceptable?

Say what you want but as someone who mainly plays the support guardian role I’ve seen way to many zerkers drop like flies at the slightest mistake.

I’m not saying I’m not the squishiest in the group….I prolly am. My “role” in the group is not to tank, it’s to inflict damage at a high rate. There are a few things though that mitigate the risk of me going down often, however:

1. I know the maps inside and out so I know how to play them
2. I know how to play my toon and the game in general (dodging, traiting well, etc.)
3. I run with a full support Guardian who really just removes conditions, stacks might and heals us
4. Finally, I’m a high crit build. I crit around 90% of the time. I often eat Omnonberry pies which give me a 66% chance to steal health on crit. If needed, I also have a greatsword that gives me an additional 30% chance to steal health.
(Also, on the off chance I do go down which does happen from time to time, I have the Sweet Revenge equipped so I rally during Vengeance)

Honestly, between those 4 factors, I don’t go down that much more often than the rest of my (tanky) team and my repair bill, if any, is always less than 3 silver unless we’ve just had the worst luck ever.

It really can be done, you just have to find zerker warriors who know how to play the game. Finally, I can believe that of all the builds people choose, more zerker warriors would be less informed on how to play well than others because their mentality can be just faceroll everything in site, no dodges or any consideration for healing.

Personal Reward lvl 28 Zerker warrior here…currently running w/ 35 Agony resist in full zerker jewelry……run fracs every night in the 20’s/30’s and a typical run with me, and some more warrior/guardians – fellow guild-mates – usually takes between 45-60 min including Jade Maw. Very, very rarely ever wipe and never fail. Last night, as an example we ran Snowblind, Volcanic, Cliffside and the Jade Maw and did it with no worries in about 60 minutes. Swap out Volcanic for the swamp and reduce that time by 15 minutes or so.

It’s not the gear, it’s the people involved.

Can’t speak for everyone, obviously, but I’m in a guild of ~500 that used to always have 2-3 groups farming AC about every day. It’s great that there’s a small percentage of hardcore’s that like the new changes, but quite frankly I think the changes were fairly unpalatable to myself and most of the people I’ve talked to. Just my .02.

Dear A.net please make all dungeons this hard. Then give them an additional harder hard mode that has unique dungeon skills that drop from chests and more complex mechanics.

Seriously, people need to re-learn the definition of the word “beginner”. This is the beginner dungeon for people to learn on. It should not be so overtly difficult for a party of true level 35 that they constantly wipe and grind. Also, it should be pretty simple for a group of full exotic 80’s to get through and not struggle much if they have any sort of skill.

If this were true, then this would accurately reflect the qualifier of “beginner”. Not every dungeon should be created equally difficult so that every person from every level will struggle, that’s not realistic.

Right now beginner maps such as Wayfairer Foothills are much easier than Frostgorge Sound and there’s a good reason. The same should be true of Dungeons so people who are lower/mid levels have dungeons where they can farm them without it being a ridiculously frustrating grind of expense and death.

I’ll be sure to post my feedback if it’d be useful to people. If it’s as bad as you say, they either need to weaken 80s scaling or nerf the dungeon a bit or both.

Disagree on the first sentiment – a beginning level dungeon should be pretty cake for a Lvl 80 exotic toon, otherwise, what’s the point of getting the gear? I’m not saying I should 1 shot everything, but in a beginner dungeon, I should absolutely roll pretty much straight through. Which, is generally what I do in most groups so I’m ok with that.

After the patch I ran it with my Lvl 80 support spec’d Guardian with Full AC exotic armor… and two level 30 MW rings. We were all 80s, three were pugs (myself included) with the other two in a guild together. We wiped a lot. Wiped on Kholer ~6 times over two paths and skipped him on path 3. Wiped at other various bosses.

That’s odd. Our experience was that we kind of half-wiped in the spider room the first time because the hatchlings were so much more powerful than before that it surprised us, but after that, we took things slowly and made it without wiping. Which is what I would expect the full level 80 exotics ought to buy you. Not necessarily guarantee a win in a beginner dungeon, but certainly provide a huge advantage.

Again, if people want a challenge, they should not be looking for it in a beginner dungeon unless they’re beginners in the first place.

I haven’t tried it as a 35 but I plan on doing it to see how doable it is. I agree they need to work on scaling, though I think the changes indirectly helped with this by making the extra stats less important.

I’d love to see your feedback once you run that. I’m guessing if 5 people who are actually spec’d at level 35 equip themselves with no greater than Masterwork gear and similar traits that would be available it’s going to either be a wipe or a very long, frustrating experience.

Don’t get me wrong, I like AC and I can run a path in about 20 minutes even after the update, but I’m full 80 exotic. This dungeon is not a level 35 dungeon. They need to make this particular dungeon easier so that people who actually are level 35 can run a dungeon if they want to. Right now, most would be lost (and hopeless) entering AC @ level 35.

That is true. It makes no sense to make early dungeons harder than later ones. The loot in every dungeon is terrible and I sell it all.

Subtract the loot and just give me more silver.

Yeah, that brings up another point I meant to make, thank you. Do you guys generally think that once you have the tokens you need to buy the gear you’re farming that there’s really any incentive to farm dungeons or is the loot generally not worth it?

I’ve found an occasional rare on dungeon runs (maybe 1 per every 2 runs) but it’s not compelling enough to make it a nightly must have type of event. Closest I get to that is running Fractals @ level 10 or higher to get ascended rings which I think is totally worth it.

I’m going to post my dungeon philosophy and I’m genuinely curious how many agree or disagree.

I think

- Beginner dungeons should be very doable by good, not great gamers at or around the level specified. Currently, unless your a GW2 Gaming God, AC is not doable by people at the level.

- If you run with a full group of full exotic 80’s, the beginning dungeons should be fairly easy. The rewards for these dungeons should be leveled to the dungeon and there should be little incentive for higher level toons to farm these dungeons unless it’s to help someone or they’re just farming tokens.

- Higher level dungeons should yield a definite bump in loot. I should absolutely expect to get better loot in COF over CM or AC. I should expect to get a definite bump up in loot for doing COE or ARAH over COF. Right now, I feel like I have about the same chance for a nice rare or higher from all the dungeons and that is not how it should be set up.

- Stop trying to make beginning and end game dungeons feel the same for a lvl 80 toon and make the rewards worth the pain for doing them. Quite frankly COF is far easier than AC and that doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. I actually feel squishier in AC than any other dungeon right now which is plain stupid.

So, there’s a few of my main problems with the dungeon system as is right now. Thoughts?

Or consider a new strategy.

There is no way of doing the control panel without you being hit, there is no way to survive on the buttons long enough to distract them from the panel person.

The whole game is based on dodging but then punishes you for dodging by closing the door.

Not true. Entirely possible to do dredge without spy kits.

I’ve never even thought of using a spy kit and have never once failed that fractal…..Not saying it’s always easy – it’s not – but it’s definitely doable. Two people on the switches, two people kiting and the other one on the panel…….works most of the time for us.

100% agree with OP, The only thing I would add to it is that they need to improve scaling for lvl 80’s in exotic/ascended gear as some of the fights are so easy because your team is too powerful.

Again, if you are in full level 80 exotics and you go to a beginner dungeon you should be too powerful. You’re farming the wrong spot (theoretically). I don’t want to be further scaled down in AC because right now people who are true lvl 35’s in all greens are not going to make it, provided they are allowed to go with a group in the first place.

Dude, if you really manage to pull what you say you do, hats of to you but you are the extreme exception. Not only do I hear it all the time from people who from AC in my guild, I see it all over these forums. AC is a starter dungeon that most people don’t feel is worth doing till your much farther than the “min level” and most say they really only want full 80’s.

I know CM has gotten a similar rap and while you could accurately say that some of these complaints come from people who don’t take the time to learn the dungeon and how to play your character well, or even don’t know how to syngerize well with other team mates/skill sets there’s many, many good and competent players who know how to play the game but will not do AC with any fewer than 3 of the 5 being full 80’s. I know, I’m one of them. It’s just too painful otherwise.

My Opinion on AC - Good job.

As an 80 toon w/ full exotics with a party of the same lvl toons, I enjoyed it as well except for the glitch where we couldn’t get the final boss over the traps because he was stuck.

However, this is supposed to be a level 35 dungeon so it really should be easy for full level 80’s. That’s not nerfing, it’s common sense. The dungeon should be runnable by a group of 35-45’s without hours worth of death/frustration and right now that’s just not the case.

If you want a dungeon that’s more difficult, go do some higher level dungeons where if they are too easy, you have a point. With AC (and a few others) it really shouldn’t be that difficult because right now they’re off limits to anyone near the “minimum level” specified.

True Minimum level of any dungeon

harbinger.2698

It’s been my (and many in my guild I’ve talked to) that there are no dungeons a person can comfortably run until they are well beyond the minimum level specified. I know AC says you can do Exp mode at level 35, but realistically, you might be able to get away with 1 or 2 level 35-45 toons in a party (maybe), but the rest better be full 80’s w/ exotic gear or you won’t make it based solely on the OP nature of the dungeon.

Now, I’ve run AC paths dozens and dozens of times and can usually clear a path in 20-30 minutes running with ~80 level toons so we definitely understand the mechanics, how to play, what to do, etc. If I took those same 4 people and we all ran the same exact character classes but at level 35-40 each, I can pretty much guarantee either we’d fail or it’d be a very long,. frustrating grind to accomplish if that’s possible.

In other words, it’s not that we’re not good or don’t understand how to “dodge” or how to play our character or what the best strategy is in an exp path, it’s that the path itself is simply too much for anyone who’s not geared at a much higher level.

So, bottom line, are most of the “lower level” dungeon’s way to OP for the level they specify? Or are some more accurate and AC just really OP? Thoughts?

If you don’t want to step foot inside WvW, you don’t deserve map completion, it’s as simple as that. WvW maps are still maps in the game.

And I say if you don’t step inside PvP and win 5 matches you also don’t deserve map completion as well. :0. Seriously, try actually contributing to the discussion rather than just dumping your unsupported opinion in our laps as if it very existence contains some intrinsic value to the thread.

There’s been a list of very valid complaints regarding this forced marriage between the two game play modes and the best you can offer is “because I said so”???

I’d argue that Dungeon completion, which actually are a sub-set of the PvE environment and are part of the Map itself should be included in map completion should be included before WvW which you actually have to leave PvE to do. (It’s got it’s own separate button and everything.)

Same discussion comes up about once a week. Most recognize that requiring the WvW maps in the Map Completion achievement is at least problematic if not an outright fail.

There will always be the pointless retorts of “You don’t have to do it” —--duh—-we don’t have to “do” anything, including playing the game itself. Since we obviously do want the achievement but in some cases, are unable to realistically get it, the "you don’t have to do it " argument is less than useful.

There also will be the “time it right and jump on to an empty server exactly when it resets” or some other silly work around. We can get like 95% of the acheivement without the silly workarounds……why can’t the last 5% be consistent?

Those same ole’ same ole’ replies not withstanding, the general consensus is that

- Forcing people to group, go into another set of maps and hope you’re in a group large enough to get the points you need is a ridiculous expectation when every other WP/POI/Vista/etc can be achieved more or less by your self if that’s how you choose to play the game.

- Forcing a WvW achievement into a primarily PvE achievement is akin to saying., “And for your monthly PvP achievement, you must run 3 dungeons in PvE”…….makes no more sense then what we are being asked to do now.

-That including 2 out of the 3 types of maps and calling it “map completion” is at least logically inconsistent. There are 3 basic modes of play. PvE. WvW. PvP. Either all 3 should be included to become “Meta-Map completion” or it should be “Pve Map Completion”.

The bottom line is that ANet said that we could play the game the way we wanted to and while that sounds good, they are forcing people to engage in 2 out of the 3 game play modes in order to achieve what should absolutely be limited to a single game play mode.

Let us actually play the way we want to play.

World Map Completion/WvW

Even though I’ll never understand the pairing of the PvE World Map and the WvW maps and calling that Map Completion (and not including PvP), it would be an acceptable compromise to just place the POI’s all outside the castle’s so you’re not forcing someone to pray that they find a group large enough to take over a castle/keep you need just so you can pick up a POI.

Still not a great solution, but if we’re going to be forced into WvW (which is not playing the way some of us want to play) to get Map Completion, at least make it possible to solo so it’s not a group dependent thing.

You should consider yourself lucky to have such easy access to Fury.

Maximize your Critical Chance (in PvE/WvW):

Thanks! Those are very helpful suggestion. I’ll definitely be incorporating some of your advice into my build and see how that runs. Right now I have a full Set of Melandru Sigils (Because I bought the her karma armor) which makes me a very tanky but pretty good DPS warrior. However, I’m not convinced the Melandru Sigil’s the way I want to go. I would still like to be fairly tanky but increase my crit.

Also, I’m using Superior Sigil of Air for the chance of the lighting strike on my weapon. Perhaps not my best choice or just increase my crit level and it should be fine?

“Fury” is a boon that increases crit chance by 20%. The “Fury” boon stacks in duration.

Both skills grant you access to the “Fury” boon for a period of time listed.

So, if I understand you correctly, If I were to activate both concurrently, I’d expect to have a 20% higher Crit chance for 39 1/2 seconds? Not sure if that’s an effective means of upping my crit or not. I’m trying to get my Crit as high as I possibly can. I already have 30 points into Precision. I’m obviously using 2 Skills to boost that as well getting precision on some of my gear.

Any other suggestions on how I can maximize my crit chance?

So, I have “For Great Justice” and “Signet of Rage” both equipped.

I kick off “For Great Justice” and my Crit chance goes up the 20% for 9 1/2 seconds as advertised. I then activate the Signet of Rage and my Crit chance is unaffected even though it states that my crit should go up another %20 for 30 seconds.

No one is saying they want to finish their WvW maps from start to finish in an afternoon, so I’m not sure where you’re getting this.

There are a few trolls in this thread that aren’t “getting” anything or trying to make salient points, they’re just throwing pointless “crybaby”, “it’s optional” comments or any number of pointless little snipes that don’t add anything constructive to either side of the debate. It’s usually best to give them a response that is of commensurate value to their own contributions which usually means no response is warranted at all.

But what a lot of people have to realize is that for some maps, it is really, truly, impossible to take some of the green keeps on Eternal Battlegrounds. I’ve been waiting about a month and checking the map at least once a day.

Completing an achievement should be fun and it should be challenging. It shouldn’t be nigh-impossible.

Exactly this. I would love to hear a rational response from either Anet or anyone for that matter on how it makes any sense whatsoever to include WvW maps into the PvE map completion achievement.

Either Map completion should be ALL maps (PvP, WvW and PvE) or it should just be PvE.

So you don’t like the ’it’s optional, dont do it’ statement eh?

The problem lies in that you ‘do’ want to do it… you just want it to be easier and or more catered to ‘you’. Cry babies cry.

Read it again.

You’re feeding the trolls, stop that!

Said that World Completion (a PvE achievement) should logically be limited to PvE play. …..And, unlike the non-WvW maps, to complete them you have to rely on the efforts of others (PvP), not yourself.

It’s not an “I want it, make it easy for me” argument. It’s a “this doesn’t make any kitten sense” argument.

Exactly this. There’s no rhyme or reason. Difficult (or near impossible on some servers) or not, there’s not a lick of sense to be found in the pairing the WvW maps and PvE maps and calling the two disparate worlds “Map Completion”.

The drop rate of rares and exotics is disturbingly low. I don’t remember the last time I got an exotic drop. Most the exotics I ever gotten were from map completions.

This has been my experience as well. I’ve never gotten an exotic drop in all the dungeon runs, PvE or FOTM. Don’t expect one often, but as much as I play doing the dng/fotm runs, it’s getting to be unreasonable that I haven’t found at least 1 item.

2. World completion is optional, if you have issues with the way it’s set up, then don’t do it.

and

Achievements are optional.

If you feel like discovering the entire world isn’t your cup of tea, then don’t do it. It’s as simple as that.

Playing the game at all is optional so I’m unclear what the point of this statement is. The topic at hand is evaluating the Map Complete achievement and whether the requirements for getting that achievement consistent and make sense. Many posit that the WvW requirement for what is primarily a PvE achievement makes little to no sense and in some cases, depending on the server you’re on, creates an inflated level of difficulty that shouldn’t exist.

No, we don’t “have” to do this (or much else in life but die), but if they are going to present us with an achievement like this, especially one that’s tied to certain end game rewards, then have it make sense. Right now, it really doesn’t.

I completely agree about this objection…… I have no problem that map complete would include every bit of the PvE world, but to include the WvW – thereby forcing you to play that aspect of the game for at least a time – seems contrived. PvP has it’s own reward system, WvW should be the same and stay separate from PvE rewards and map completes.

Overall, the game is not rewarding, beyond the awesome gameplay of course, in my experience.

This has been my experience as well. I’ve run for ~300 hours on just my warrior and have farmed Lvl 80 dungeons in EXP mode and FOTM all the time and I’ve never once found an item worth more than 50 silver. I get that it’s random and that it’s all about farming and patience and I don’t expect an exotic or even rare every run, but quite frankly the absence of finding a single item worth even 1 gold ever in 300 hours is pretty mind boggling and very frustrating.

On the actual note, some people are just more blessed by RNG more than others. I know one of my guildies get enough ascended rings from Fractal dailies to npc them for hoarding her bank space, gets couple of random exotics every other dungeon runs with only source of MF being the consumables (26%), while I have only ever gotten 2 ascended rings from about the same amount of Fractal runs and I’m usually happy if I get even a green from regular dungeon runs.

See, I get the random nature of how this works, but over enough time, I would think truly random odds would prove to yield a relatively similar experience, over time.. However, 300 hours into it and again, I still have to find a single item worth 1 gold which makes me the only person I know in my guild (500 members) that hasn’t found at least something.

“Even 1 gold?”

Individual items that are worth over a gold are quite rare.

The claim of “1 gold between Cof 1, 2 and Hotw1” is bizarre and hopefully correctable. Are you making sure to pick up every silver drop?

I believe so. I get all the tokens everyone else gets. I have autoloot on. I check both the boss and the chests……AFAIK, I’m doing the same as everyone else.

Peach Tarts are more or less useless for dungeons. If you don’t have Omnoms, use Raspberry Peach bars for the gold find.

Ok. I’ll check that out. Thanks for the advice.
