Just want to chime in that the exact same thing (error message included) happened to me a couple of days ago. In map chat in LA others were saying the same thing.

I opened a ticket at the time of the error and they replied that they’re looking into it but it’s the last message I’ve received.

I also don’t want to try again for fear of being charged multiple times.

Friendly Reminder Re: Trading Post bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

holotype.1643

Just want to pop in and request a fix to the Trading Post font resolution bug.

This is the issue where if you are in small resolution and open the TP, the font becomes distorted, and text becomes very hard to read.

It is because of this issue that I have played the game since beta on “Normal” resolution, which makes the UI abnormally large — making the inventory screens to large, pressing screens together, and forcing me to constantly be moving things around so I can see it all at once.

The solution is for me to play the game in small and open my options panel and switch to normal before opening the TP. This is clumsy, slow, and unnecessary.

Please, please fix this. I shouldn’t be playing for over a year now with this still in place.

Happy to Give $60 worth of Expansion Money

For the following:

  • A new region or continent to explore….
  • With a new set of maps….
  • And a new storyline running through them.
  • A new playable race or two
  • Maybe a new profession?
  • Guild Halls
  • Alliance Battle style pvp (my favorite form of pvp from GW1)

I realize that eventually we may see the above things through living story. Basically, they will be trickled out, in dribs and drabs, over time.

I guess I will buy $40-$60 worth of gems a year or two from now when that process is finished?

I have come to terms with the fact that I will never again have the “Christmas Morning” feeling that I had when Factions came out, for example, and that I will just learn to deal with living story. That’s fine. Lack of excitement is ok.

I do want to thank Anet for the following additions since launch:

  • LFG tool. (Now that I don’t need it, it’s finally in the game.)
  • Southsun Cove map (more beautiful maps like this please!)
  • SAB (totally unexpected and awesome addition to game)

Gem Price Inflation - how much is too much?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: holotype.1643

holotype.1643

The more people use gold to buy gems, the more gold they need to buy gems. The only way to stop this is for people to stop using gold to buy gems. So, if no one buys gems with gold, then everyone can buy gems with gold, but if everyone buys gems with gold, then no one can buy gems with gold.

Simple.

Oh, and working as intended. The gem thing is a cash shop created to earn income for the companies that created the game. It’s not there to give away free stuff to cheapskates. That they allow this option is a gift, not a right.

Oh, and I’m a cheapskate, and I have no problem with the way it works. Take a high-level toon and do Wurm/Shadow/Elemental/Maw/Teq/Shatterer every day if you need gold. You get at least 1 rare worth around 20 silver from each event, more if you’re lucky (Shadow gave me a Dusk), and enough other loot to more than cover the wp fees. It’s a small but steady income for just an hour a day.

I may need to re-state my OP here. I’m not referring to myself. I have all professions covered and maxed, even one extra char slot I don’t use. I have more bank expansions and bag slots than I need. I’m set. [and “I’m set” in no small part due to the fact that I was able to buy lots of gems at a comparatively low exchange rate.]

What I’m pointing to is the difference a new player will have with this game versus what I experienced back when the game started. The difference in the exchange rate is huge, and certainly this must be of concern to the developer, not to mention the new player?

Gem Price Inflation - how much is too much?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: holotype.1643

holotype.1643

Gem prices (in game gold) have risen over 300% since launch. This is a heavy burden for new players who want to buy bag/bank upgrades, character slots, transmutation crystals (fine transmutation stones were once a common reward), and other purchases that were once much easier to obtain just by playing the game.

Whether the exchange rate is being manually soft-capped over time to keep prices from skyrocketing out of control or not, the exchange rate in the game is only going to get worse and make the experience a lot less fun for newcomers who want to play the game the way I did when I started on day 1 of head-start, which i can sum up this way:

“after just paying $60 for the game, I’d like to NOT use my credit card for a while to buy gems, ok?”

Dailies - the bane of modern games

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

regardless of whether you like dailies or not, or if you like GW2’s implementation of them (vs WoW’s for example), they are surely not required.

Sometimes when I log in I don’t get all of the requirements done for the daily, and I log out without worry.

Other times, the daily gives me something to do in addition to guild activity or dungeons or farming.

It’s a complimentary feature and I bet most players appreciate the option.

What makes Gw2 a great MMO

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: holotype.1643

holotype.1643

other than WoW, GW2 is the only MMO i enjoy playing and feel is worth my time. Some of the reasons:
*Overall polish/look-and-feel
*Beauty of the gameworld, attention to detail
*Fluidity/mobility/complexity of combat
*Cooperation in PvE vs competition (tagging boss mobs, racing to ore nodes to beat the other guy, camping corpses, using the system to torment others)
*Lack of a sub fee + a complimentary gem store as opposed to basically requiring you to buy from the cash shop if you want to enjoy the game.

Did you recommend the game for your friends to give a like ? I didn’t because Is not a game worth buying anymore.

The game is larger, more functional, far less buggy, more optimized, more balanced, and offers more play options now than it did after launch.

Why would GW2 possibly be a game not worth buying “anymore” as opposed to previously?

It is of course a different story if you just don’t like the game and are not playing anymore. But that begs the questions: Why are you still trolling on the GW2 forums? Shouldn’t you be playing a superior game right now? One that you can recommend to your friends?

As far as the 1M likes, I don’t do Facebook.

The Excitement Factor of expansions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: holotype.1643

holotype.1643

Been playing since beta, all professions and crafting disciplines maxed, map completion, etc. etc. I’ve stopped playing, though.

I can appreciate that Anet is congratulating themselves for being innovative and changing the MMO paradigm for content release, but I remember when Factions was about to be released, the preview weekend, the tremendous excitement.

which brings me to why dribbled feature updates are not getting me interested in returning.

what would?

new playable races
new professions
new crafting disciplines or upgrades to current lines
new continent to explore with multiple maps. (for example, we’ve had ONE map introduced since launch, Southsun Cove. A beautiful and well-designed map imo.)

My point: there’s no reason why a new race or a new map or a new profession can’t be introduced through living story….but the “christmas morning” effect of having an expansion with a whole new world to explore, new profession to master, new race to play, new crafting disciplines to master, etc. all at one time is gone with the Living Story method.

It’s obvious that I’ll have to change my expectations going forward, but i can’t force myself to be excited.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Total Make-over Kit, Sylvari Glow [Merged]

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: holotype.1643

holotype.1643

This kit has totally destroyed my happiness. I kinda wish you guys would just STOP selling it to unsuspecting folks until you get this problem fixed. I bought the kit, adjusted the color of my glow and poof – no glow! It now is set to perma-low no mater what I do.

Filed a ticket, and no refund or nothing has happened. Bought FOUR more kits and tried to follow the advice of other forum gamers who report mixed success getting their glow back. Nothing. $50.00 later, no refunds, no answers, just more delays fixing one of the more personal issues in a game – one based on a major source of player satisfaction and account retention: identifying and bonding with your avatar.

To be honest, the first few days after losing my glow I didn’t think it would bother me as much as it has, but it grows on you. Eating away and making you more frustrated and sad each time you notice the issue. I am lucky to game with my fiance, who also plays a Sylvari. Every time it’s evening, and my partner is glowing, it makes me unhappy I am not glowing as well.

I feel ignored and dismissed as a gaming consumer =(

Totally agree that they should just lock down the kits or make them unusable for sylvari until this bug is fixed.

i’m stuck on this quest. I tried the fix up there but it didn’t work for me. I’ve ended up restarting the quest 3 times and i always get stuck at point when Zott is about to destroy the third siege weapon. I cleared up all mobs beforehand and keep using a signal flare to target the location. Nothing happens.

This is getting really frustrating, since i spent the last hours trying to get this to work. How can I finish my storyline? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My only suggestion is to try again, but this time keep this page open in your browser and literally stop once you get to the beach, alt-tab out, and re-read FunkyMonkey’s outline. Follow it EXACTLY as he says.

For example, you don’t have to do anything with the flares, just lead zott to the catas.

of course make sure the beach is 100% pine-sol clean from zombies

Also, make sure to run to the area where the team is supposed to meet (the area where the green circle will appear) and stand there BEFORE zott is through with the third cata. So, lead him to 3rd cata, command him, run to area, wait (will take some time).

This game really has just gotten started.

As far as GW1, there are alot of things I miss (the entire continent of Cantha, which we may never see again, for example). But though I miss those armor sets and those cool places, I’m also interested in seeing new places, new races, new armor….and building some new nostalgia.

Guild wars 2 ruined all other mmo's

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: holotype.1643

holotype.1643

GW2 is currently the best MMO running. It contains some bold adjustments to the genre, a beautiful world, depth, and a team behind it solely committed to building ONE franchise, Guild Wars, for the past ten years.

In my opinion, the only game that comes close right now in terms of quality is WoW. Though they have been milking the cow after Wotlk launched, they are still actively playing with and deploying new systems to keep it fresh.

Neverwinter will not be able to compete, though its Foundry system that allows players to build their own dungeons has some awesome potential for a niche audience.

I’m not sold on Elder Scrolls Online yet, need to see more.

A better question is why are you farming in the first place? It won’t make you more competitive, only more “cool”. But even that is subjective. I have a feeling the wrong crowd came to GW2. The more I read topics like these, the more I’m starting to realize it.

It’s a valid form of gameplay. Some people enjoy it, find it relaxing, predictable,…generates mats, gold, and the occasional rare. I personally find it boring but there’s nothing wrong with the farmers imo

Out of the races I’ve seen so far, I’ll give what I believe to be the most probable ones chosen for the expansion, along with my guess at the % chance of seeing that race:

1. Tengu (90% certain)

2. Largos (50%)

3. Kodan (20%)

As far as my preferences, I’d like to play a more muscular version of the current Tengu, such as the Tengu from GW1, like Talon the henchman. Also, I’d LOVE to play the Wardens from Cantha. Seeing as how we may never go to Cantha, this shall remain a pipe dream.

What's your favourite Jumping Puzzle?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: holotype.1643

holotype.1643

I so wish there was a “Jumping Toolbelt” we could equip and it would give us JP-related skills.
It would lead to a lot more depth to JP’ing imo.

Example:
1. Hyper Jump – Your next jump is 33% higher and longer.
2. Grab my hand! – Shout. All allies gain stability for 5s (so they can add things that knock you off which you can counter with this)
3. Acrobatic Leap – Jump and evade attacks.
4. Cat Landing – Damage from falling damage is halved for 5s
5. Rocket jump – Use rocket boots to jump.

this is a pretty cool idea
it would make many of the current jps a little too easy, but i like the idea in principle, maybe there’s a way to incorporate it in the future.

The "Inspect Gear" Discussion.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: holotype.1643

holotype.1643

My two cents:

A big “NO” to inspecting gear. Every other MMO has that feature. If I want to inspect people, I’ll play those games.

Please try to keep GW2 different from other MMO’s; even if you’ve already started down the slippery WoW-clone slope, it’s not too late to stop.

Terrible logic.

So that’s why some people don’t want mounts or duels either? “Because WoW has it”.

Jesus, get over yourselves. And is inspect an wow-only feature now?

Most of them doesn’t want gear inspect cause of magic find. Remove magic find and 95% of community would say yes on gear inspection.

You got it backwards. Remove magic find and 95% of the community won’t ever ask for inspections again.

Magic Find has nothing to do with this discussion.

I would wager that 95% of the GW2 playerbase doesn’t want gear inspection.

A vocal 5% does, so that they can exclude others from their groups for reasons that often have literally 0% impact on how successful the group will be in completing the dungeon. Agony resistence is an exception.

I wish someone would run a poll on this so that we could see the actual number of people who want/don’t want gear inspect.

DR? (Diminished Returns)

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: holotype.1643

holotype.1643

People rarely comment when something is working properly, and usually only bring things up in a positive light if there is a discussion about it and they feel provoked to do as such.
For instance, we recently made it possible to join and reconnect in fractals. Prior to that patch there would be a new thread nearly every other day about how bad fractals were because of disconnects, and those threads would be the most popular. But since fixing it there hasn’t been a single thread about it, or any comments. It’s just the general nature of people to happily enjoy things instead of taking the time out of enjoying something to exclaim that you are enjoying something.

Robert, first off, thank you and your teammates for this amazing game. In my opinion, it’s superior to every MMO currently running.

To your point: people rarely praise things when they are working fine because they expect it to work fine in the first place, especially if it’s an Anet product.

A person pays $60K for an awesome new car. Powerful engine, rich corinthian leather inside, Ricardo Montalban sitting in the back seat.
…but the windshield wipers and AC don’t work.

New car owner takes it back to the dealer, only for the dealer to say: “Geez, you complain and complain about this broken stuff but where’s the praise?” It’s a ridiculous and insulting comment.

The unfixed, unattended-to bugs that have been in this game since beta, the lack of a groupfinder tool for dungeons, the punishing. group-destroying issues with Fractals that have only now been addressed and should have launched with Fractals…these things are maddening.

Jumping Puzzles as Norn and Charr

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

WoW is a more complicated game with many more systems than GW2, yet they manage to get their cameras spot on. Why can’t you?

Do you even understand the words you are typing? How, in any form, is WoW “a more complicated game with many more systems than GW2”? This comment shows a total lack of understanding of both games, not to mention the systems required to make them.

An awful lot of the camera issues with jumping puzzles could be solved with two simple changes to the cameras. More zoom and 1st person view. Those two things would reduce headaches for nearly every odd angle and tight space in a JP. 1st person lets you look around without the camera pushing through your characters head and zoom allows you to pull back to see around corners and up steep grades. Why don’t you just do that?

You do not have to journey far. Go to the first page of this forum post and read each of Josh’s replies regarding the camera. Your question: “Why don’t you just do that?” shows that you have simply not read his comments.

Hi GW2 Community,

after I tried to complete this Story Quest for 2 Days now, i found a Workaround for myself, so the Regroup Bug won´t appear. It might help you too.

- Start Mission and continue, until you are told to meet your party at the Coast.
- Your party tells you to lead Zott to the remaining Siege Weapons, but don´t do it yet.
- Clear the Coast from every Risen first, until there is no one left.
- Now lead Zott to the Siege Weapons.
- After you led him to the third one, run to the point, where you should regroup with your party, don´t wait until Zott has finished his job.
- The Regroup Bug shouldn´t appear now and you see a short movie clip, after that you can complete your mission normally.

I finished Ship of the Line a few minutes ago. It worked for me, but I might work for you too.

This works.

Thank you SO MUCH

I’ve played the game for months now in the “normal” setting (overlapping panes, scrolling, oversized UI and all) because of this issue with garbled text in the BLTC.

Umm, ok, how do get unstuck?

You type /stuck and get a message that says your position has been logged.
You then pay a fee to transport to the waypoint of your choice.

Anet likes to keep their content a little more close to their chest before release than some other studios. It preserves the excitement, surprise, and delight of the content. As opposed to 95% of your release content being broadcast on youtube via the PTR.

It’s a different style of development, and it comes with the drawback of releasing content that is not thoroughly tested. I am ok with the tradeoff, but I really wish that Anet would literally double their current effort on fixing bugs and glitches…

I have a warrior that cannot progress right now because the Ships of the Line story mission is bugged. I’ve just given up on his story.

I have been eating bugs, and reporting the same ones over and over since beta.

What do you like about the new updates?

Regarding Orr:

-I’ve noticed some of the annoying cc (the pull-back skill for example) is not being used by risen mobs.
-The mobs are larger, so they are easier to see.
-Some new walking animations for the caster risen.
-I’ve only run through one area that had a noticibly reduced density of risen. Many other areas that have a comically high number of risen have been untouched.
-Not noticing any change in drop volume or quality (though I may not be paying enough attention)

My feelings: A small change, and I’ll take it. Just removing the annoying cc’s was nice.

Map Completion and WvW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

aside from the lag issues in WvW (this affects me too, and is one of the reasons I don’t enjoy WvW much), I strongly feel that map completion for WvW should be restricted to Eternal Battlegrounds and the home Borderlands only.

Requiring players to repeat the same mirrored map 2 more times is boring and frustrating. It offers no sense of exploration or accomplishment. Also, if you are on a weakly populated server or one that doesn’t do well in WvW, good luck getting some of those POI’s/vistas. It’s a system that punishes people just for picking a server.

I’ve gotten 100% world completion already but fully support removing opposing borderlands maps from the requirement, or just changing the WvW reqs in general for map completion.
