you realize the point of a game is to play it. If actually playing the game is so boring its considered a playtime sink, whats the point of playing it? If the point is to get all the skills, then whats the point if they make it so you can do it by hitting one button.
Because a good chunk of us make a new character, get out of the tutorial, and queue up and live in WvW or sPvP.
There is no point in playing the story more than once…doesn’t matter what race you play you all end up at the same point in the story.
The game was ‘boring’ the moment I hit 80, which is why I now play WvW exclusively…except when there’s Living Story events.
I have one other lvl 80. The rest, I’ve rolled every class btw, are sub 80. Varying from 20-something to my 60 Thief. I don’t have the patience to go through and redo the story all over again (they’re all human, because I like Human).
- or -
I can sink all my gold into buying the traits. …Gold I should be using to support my server in WvW.
On a side note:
You should all really think about how “great” this will be (sarcasm). What are the new players going to do when people aren’t running the events because they already had their characters level to 80 prior to this “update”.
….no one’s doing that Jormag (sp?) fight on Borlis Pass anymore; they’ve moved on.
What are they suppose to do? Dump gold into buying the Traits?
…remember they only said “events and such”. This’ll likely be stuff like the Angry Troll, Jormag (sp?), that Shadow Boss guy in the swamps, and stuff like that. And not the events that happen that count towards building up Reputation for those ‘Heart NPCs’.
And if those ‘Heart Events’ do unlock traits…the chance they’ll unlock Grandmaster Traits….only a fool would think so. Those will likely require the group events….events that are no longer bothered with on many servers.
Hurray! You just leveled. Now dump 5 gold into buying Traits, ya, we know you will likely only have 2 gold at this level. But don’t worry, we got you covered with Gems from our store. Just whip that credit card / PayPal Authorization out and we’ll get you rolling in no time.
As opposed to now where traits are a gold sink to buy the books, and then a gold sink to reset your traits because you accidentally put too many points in, or want to try a new build?
Also, do not understand the time sink thing…. you seriously want to have fewer reasons to do events and such? This will give people reason to go outside their comfort zone of Frostsound and Queensdale, to me that is a great thing.
The books are cheap. One-time buys, per character of course. Knowing Anet the new method will end up costing way more than ALL of the books combined. Assuming you don’t give a kitten about doing the same stories/events OVER AGAIN on a alt.
….I did ‘my time’ on my Engineer. Now my alts level in WvW…and only WvW.
And yes, I do want fewer reasons to do events….on my “secondary” alts, which are the only ones who are not lvl 80.
….Because I spend my time in WvW on them.
Why not just remove traits….ya know. Cause it’s so hard to build a Trait Set.
/eyeroll
Major traits will now be unlocked via traits guides, a new in-game item. Double-clicking on a trait guide will unlock its associated trait. You can find trait guides by completing specific content in the world, like story dungeons, minidungeons, WvW, personal story, specific bosses, and discovering certain areas on the world map. As excited as we are to let players earn traits with feats of bravery and cunning, we know not everyone is the exploring or adventure type—which is why we’ve included the option for you to buy trait guides from profession trainers!
You’ve just completely ruined your game. Good job on that.
Traits will now be learned by: Coin sinks (thus facilitating Gem buying). And Play-time sinks.

I would like to apologize to you for this, as all the hardcore BP Commanders transferred to Maguuma. But worry not. There are still people there who coordinate Teq runs, Temple runs, and LA runs. You just gotta be online when they do.
Look for the THCS guild. They’re one of the best BP guilds around.
Pssh, not your fault or the fault of any other player.
ArenaNet simply needs to get it that making events require other events that require a very high number of players and then add to that ridiculous abilities that require raid-like coordination for an open world boss fight isn’t exactly wise.
The same stuff I saw happen on the Knights is the same stuff I saw when World Dragons, Kazzak, Doomwalker, and most especially the AQ World mini-Bosses were attempted in that certain other game.
That company realized that players aren’t going to work together, and that most will do their own thing, unless they specifically got together for the fight. —Thus leading to a bunch of kittened of players, who then come to the forums and…‘pet kittens’ (cause I know the word is filtered :P )
…I just don’t get why ArenaNet doesn’t understand this.
You want hard event fights? Fine, put them in an instance.
OR
If you must make it a world event. Then make it so the bosses can be weakened using the game environment (ie Aetherblade Cannoneer*). This way, only a handful of players need to know what to do. But the boss will still be too powerful for said handful to take down in the time allotted.
—You still need the grunts; even though you’re the Commander.
*but not something that requires the mob to be dragged to the debuff…unless you guys are going to put in an actual Threat Table that doesn’t get whipped ever few seconds.

In the maps I was on, ppl used them as a condi clear zone anyway. When the came up, we went to them and everyone spammed their condi clear aoe skills on ppl, so we all got rid of them. That was a nice group play effort
Nice team work

All three have the same mechanics.
Even if you don’t inflict conditions on crits, many players carelessly lay down combo fields around the knights, leading to most of the damage I personally take during these events.
Ah, then my suggestion would still work. As you would just run into one of the buff zones that already spawn. In order to be cleansed of conditions.

Thank you for reporting this, we realize that is is difficult to get full maps during non peak hours or that it is hard to get a full overflow to coordinate for these fights, we are currently working on easing the difficulty of the Assault Knight fights to better allow servers to participate in the Hologram Fight.
An easy fix would be to change the ‘buff zones’ for the Red Knight to also remove conditions on you.
…I haven’t faced the Green or Blue to see what they do.
It’s poor design to make a World boss mob reflect all conditions…knowing that most of us have builds that do passive (ie on Crit) conditions that do damage.

For starters, I’m not sure how many BP players go into the event. I just know that after 4hrs Friday and 1hr Sunday (crossing over into Monday). I’ve yet to see just one of the Knights downed.
And the Knights appear to be nothing more than phallic blocks. So I don’t blame people for not bothering with them.
@kokiman: Checked the daily and monthly tabs I didn’t see anything specific to the Event. Just the usual (ie Skill Interupt; Veteran Slaying, etc).
Now I might forgive this thing if not for the fact that every single Event has been nothing but: Some Fun, Platforming, Phallic Blocks.
…at least with previous events you didn’t need to complete most of the sub-achievements to get the Meta.

Currently, my server, Borlis Pass, is unable to kill even one of the Knights.
…so thanks, Anet, you once again…ruin an event by assuming every single server has the population and coordination to take down Legendary Boss mobs.
This also means I will not be able to get past 10/15, possibly even 12/15, on the ‘This Is My City!’ achievement.
…when will you learn.
This is why I hate ‘server’-based MMOs…that feeling you need to pick a world to play with sucks. :\
Also…TC Recruitment Zerg Rush!
Nope, I saw the shout box and was like…nooooo.
I’ll find you, though, and pester you!
Also, don’t EVER get any monitor with the built-in 3D emitter…unless you don’t mind shipping a monitor back to replace a ~$120 USD emitter.
I would sit on it for awhile. ASUS’s VG278H/E has had reports of a “halo” developing in the center and spreading out.
Another thing to remember: If you’re upgrading from a CFL back-light to a LED back-light you’ll want to run on max brightness. Or you’ll likely end up with splitting headaches do to the ‘pulse width modulation’ used to give the illusion of a dimmer image.
-Basically think of how CRT’s showed up scan lines when filmed with a camera. You’ll get Vertical Scan lines with the LCD.
I would also recommend going with NVIDIA’s 3D setup. As most games that are made for 3D are specifically geared towards NVIDIA’s “3D Vision”.
Another thing to consider if you’re going 3D is the new 144Hz monitors (72Hz per frame in 3D mode). While 144Hz vs 120Hz isn’t barely noticable in 2D mode. In 3D mode the difference is 72Hz vs 60Hz. And if you are prone to headaches while watching 3D movies the higher Hz should help to avoid it.
:O
Is our lil Elly leaving the nest? Seems like just yesterday ‘she’ was running around setting fire to stuff. …they grow up so fast.
:P
Very plain and simple: Let us use ALL the environmental things from PvE, or don’t let us use any. That’s what I say. Why pick and choose? The items were made to be intentionally weak and nearly useless even in PvE. So what is the issue with them in WvW? Did some work against players that were invulnerable? If so, that’s a problem with the game code. Fix the game. Don’t just start cutting things. Or, cut ALL the things.
Well, like Golem in a Box could be used while piloting a golem…and presumably while using siege weapons…
So Anet just did a scorched earth policy and has been removing consumables. Next I foresee them removing the lifesteal food…since it works against Righteous Indignation.
(edited by illutian.7630)
It’s most likely not an exploit. The Binding Blade lasts awhile…most of us Guardians use it because it does a DoT.
It’s probably counted as an aoe pull like ‘Temporal Curtain’ (alt-fire).
So…I have these ‘Leap’ abilities…and sometimes while in retreat I’ll hit them to try and get further ahead of the enemy mass on my….um…bum. Only to forget that one of the enemy players is still targeted…behind me.
Have you ever backed into a hornets nest? XD
The only way to remove zergs is to make it one player per server per map. Humans will ALWAYS group up. And will ALWAYS go with the largest group.
The more you limit the player cap…the bigger the zerg group will be. Until, eventually, the zerg groups of each server AVOID each other because its to even a match.
Heck, even HUMANS have clipping issues
‘Outlaw Coat’ causes ANY pants including the freaking ‘Outlaw Pants’ to clip through the coat.
Human, max height, medium-ish build…IDLE ANIMATION (so I’m not nitpicking about run animations or combat poses).
Shame too, because some of the low-level armors look way better than end-game armor sets. Especially when mixed with other armor pieces.
I dislike the fact that Sekz won’t let me hug them
Y U NO LIEK ME! ;_;
You people clearly don’t understand things. Guild Wars 2 makes its money through the sales of Gems. People buy said gems mostly to get vanity things. But some buy them strictly to “power-level” their gold supply.
ArenaNet wants as many people as possible to buy gems. This is one such way.
Want that mission? Don’t have the numbers to grind Influence? That’s okay your local Guild Promoter can help. What’s that you say? Can’t afford the 10k Influence? We got you covered, just buy some gems and sell them for the gold you need.
I’d rather Commander be account-wide. It’s utterly stupid that a player has be play his/her Commander in WvW, whose probably lvl 80, instead of an alt…that may even be 80.
The only reason this doesn’t happen is because ArenaNet wants you to spend money on Gems to accelerate the purchase of additional books…..right now it’s $150 in Gems to buy a Commander book (100g?) Gems right now 1g 64s per 100. $50 USD gets you 4000; or 40 turn-ins @ 100 gems per turn in. That’s ~40g per 4000 Gems.
Don’t think they don’t know at least a handful will fund the Book with gems.
I really hope the two achievements acquired in this aren’t required for the Meta.
“Help your team, and don’t get the achievement” awesome idea!
EDIT: oh, and people are letting the ‘flag’ carrier die so they can pick up the ‘flag’ and get the Gift Bringer achievement.
How did ArenaNet NOT know this would happen. -_-’
(edited by illutian.7630)
-No search for “Commander” didn’t yield anything about different ranks, just party size options. Don’t shoot me!
As more and more people purchase ‘The Hat’. It’s becoming harder and harder to keep WvW organized.
So, why not allow additional ranks that are TEMPORARILY assigned per WvW Map.
Supreme Commander:
Voted in by majority vote of all commanders. Work out how to keep things from being biased later.
Commander:
Same as it is now.
Sub-commander:
Applied only by the Commander who’s squad you’re in.
Icons:
Same design
Supreme Commander: Gold Icon
Commander: Blue Icon
Sub-commander: Red Icon
Additional things (may or may not be on the forums all ready):
-Allow Squad Frames (ie Raid Frames)
-Commander Icons (all 3 types) displayed on World Map (doesn’t appear to be implemented)
-Alert Makers: Placed by Commanders (all 3 types), each denoted by the color (Gold, Blue, Red). Think RTS team flares used to call for help
Future Implementation:
Player-selected colors for the icons. This would be applied by the Higher-ranked Commander. That way you don’t say “Follow illutian” and have people looking for my hat, you’d just say “follow yellow”.
-This change would require the icon to be modified much like Military Ranks are modified by adding another stripe underneath the main ’ ^ ’.

All right, I want a good clean fight, understand? Nothing below the belt, everything else is okay. Ready? Let’s get it on!!!

So, hopefully that change will up the damage back up to wear it ‘should’ be

Just crashed on the Ancient Karka part because you client appears to have a memory leak.
So now I’m sitting in an Overflow that hasn’t even planted the explosives. And it doesn’t look like they’ve got enough people to plant them…so I can either stick around and hope or relog and hope the next overflow doesn’t all ready have the event done.
Thanks, Anet, thanks for this one-time event.
Sigh…thanks Anet, didn’t get to experience the event (Karka attacking after Treb is built?)….everyone eventually left the LA Overflow I was in, on Borlis Pass.
For all future events they need to lay out in exact detail what will happen…basically make a guide…that tells you everything that most people spent the last 15hrs asking in /map
*Search didn’t yield any results of this nature so…
ArenaNet should allow 3rd party programs (like Raptr) to track player achievements, much like Blizzard does with World of Warcraft.
PS: Please don’t shoot the messenger!
Lag for me started after GoM, AR, and BP vied for control over SM. Others reported issues, so I just chalked it up to server-side lag from the massive battle going on.
But I’ve had some lag issues after leaving that and leveling….
…I really hope GW2 doesn’t go the route of GW1 and have craptastic pings (GW1 rarely goes ‘green’).

Could be mesmer feedback bubble reflecting it back on you?
And reflection doesn’t reflect damage – your damage hits someone, but the same damage is applied to you as well.
So AoE-pulses count (guessing that’s what Meteor Shower would be considered)?
Question then: Do all DoTs trigger damage reflection (nearest way to describe it)?
-If people are wondering why I’m asking it’s because I can’t recall any games that would reflect DoT damage back on the attacker for 100% of the damage done (Power Word: Shield is something like 45%). So you can imagine why it’s a bit irritating to get killed by your own attack because you can’t stop it….double that with the fact there doesn’t seem to be any data on the duration the shower lasts. But it does seem to last long enough to kill me with 12k health (lvl 4 in WvW…oooh yaaaa!) plus using a Heal (GoEH).
K, this is getting ridiculous. For some reason my Elementalist took about 900+dmg/tick from some mysterious source in WvW.
I had no DoTs on me, I was not standing in anything. Nor did I have any other debuffs.
I cast Meteor Storm, Lava Font, and Flame Burst on a group assault a garrison with a ram, stepped back and promptly died from this unknown damage.
I’m aware that Retaliation reflects damage…but 900+ PER tick is kitten and can’t be that.
Where is this coming from? I can’t think of any other class-ability that would do this.
I would just play ‘em all…provided you don’t mind using Gems to open up some additional character slots.
But I seriously hate Elementalists….that Meteor Shower is freaking bullcrap. Strictly because it doesn’t have an ‘AoE Radius Indicator’ (red ring on ground), so you can clearly see that the missiles are not hitting you, yet you still take damage.
…that being said, the next Class to level is my Elementalist :P
Yea it’s pretty sad how few people are playing… I get excited every time I even only just see another player in a PvE area… why it’s the game so dead?
Because it’s free-to-play.
I bet money if WoW was free-to-play (using GW2 f2p model) you’d see maybe an active base of 2 million players TOTAL.
It’s easy to ‘stop playing’ when you don’t feel like you’re wasting your $15/mo because you didn’t login at all “this week”.
Were you running it Fullscreen or Windowed (Fullscreen)?
Try this: E:\User Data\Documents\Guild Wars 2 (or where ever your Documents folder is)
And backup the Local.dat then delete it:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/54889-reset-settings/
It should default all the game settings.
Problems With GTX 680 Or Grafic Driver ... ?

Posted by: illutian.7630
Ya, sounds like it’s driver corruption if you’re getting it repeatedly.
1) Get Driver Sweeper (http://phyxion.net/ it’s called Trexxy now) & Install it
2) Uninstall → Control Panel → Add or Remove Programs → All things Nvidia, doing the Graphics Driver LAST (reboot if it tells you to on ANY of the uninstalls)
3) Boot into save mode (F8 at PC startup, hit it like you mean it)
4) Run Driver Sweeper → Uninstall only Nvidia DISPLAY (leave the chipsets alone)
5) Restart PC normally, Windows will “detect new hardware” and install the ‘shipped’ version of Nvidia
6) Install either 306.23 or 306.97, I’ve had a BSoD with the 306.97; so I Acronis restored back to the system image with 306.23 (please don’t ask if I did a clean install..i will hit you :P )
-Let us know if it worked
-Also, disable EVGA’s overlay. Games don’t always play well with those things…rather they be Raptr, Xfire, or even Steam’s Overlay
AMD/ATI seems to have ‘fallen from grace’. There’s numerous ‘Stickied’ topics across various games with titles like “Attention ATI Users” or “ATI Issues”. Most of it seems to boil down to the drivers being absolute kitten.
Best bet may be to check the AMD/ATI forums to see if it’s a known issue or if people found work-arounds.
You may even need to get more RAM. Right now I’m using 6.1GB of my 12GB of RAM with ~1.7GB of that being GW2.exe.
If you feel like parting with ‘small change’ in terms of computer upgrades, you could try doubling your RAM. UNLESS! you’re using a 32-bit system, which it doesn’t look like since you’re at 65% when at 3.91GB.
Also, how much VRAM is in use while playing the game (ie pressing ‘W’ moves your character). Might be hard if you’re running single-monitor, but things like Fraps might be able to provide an in-game overlay. I’m sitting at 800MB here in Claypool facing the waypoint from the crafting stations.
But I would try getting some ‘gaming’ RAM, try for 12GB. And maybe save up for an Nvidia. It seems ATI cards run best when paired with AMD chips……wonder why that would be smirk
And I see you may look into OCing.
DO NOT USE THE STOCK FAN IF YOU ARE OCing. That fan blows…even at stock speed my i7-920 would reach near 95c when crunching movies in Handbrake. Went liquid and never looked back.
-I base my recommendation on personal experience.
They most likely don’t want to see the return of ‘The Immortals’…I’m sure you all remember the Immortal Monks running around with like 60hp @Level 20.
Doesn’t really cost that much at all. I frequently use the waypoints just cause I can’t be arsed to walk back.
No need for that. Why not have a ‘War Chest’-tab in the Crafting Window that holds all the loot you got (via auto-loot), during PVP.
This tab can only have stuff taken out of it.
This is especially important in WvW, since you only get Badges from dead players IF you loot the bag, which takes a while (~1sec) to spawn under you….which you may not notice if you’re running for your life :P
The reason not to just use AoE-looting is because, as a ranged unit, I can easily fill my backpack, and (4) 10-slot bags with loot…we’re talking mostly armor pieces, long before I actually die. At one point I even had inventory full of blue and ‘meh’ greens (minor runes).
While not ‘memorable’ it certainly was fun.
In Eternal Battlegrounds, having the enemy switch from trebbing a wall, that’s ~10% with 2 trebs wailing on it, to destroying my lone cannon…..all because the enemy infantry kept taking balls to the chin (and dying).
Also, finding out Trebs can launch cows……I love Monty Python, especially the Holy Grail.
Oh, and a lil bit of meme. Go click on a ‘Cat’, I don’t recall where that portrait was used, but I distinctly remember that cat being a meme.
PS: Tybalt doesn’t die, he’s saved by apples…cause I said so
Black Screen/Crash Issue - I just want to play my game...

Right now sitting in Claypool I’m using 1.2GB, now if this is a 32bit game with Large-address Aware it should work to ~3.5GB, if not, it’s like 2GB or 2.5GB.
Only on a 64bit operating system, and its closer to 3780MB that it hits the limit at.
On a 32bit operating system its around 1800MB, but by the point it reaches 1750, its probably going to crash the next time you change area’s.
You sure it’s 64bit. 32bit address up to 4GB (minus a bit). But applications are limited to 2GB for system stability (~2GB for system, ~2GB for application). Flagging LAA allows the app to use the full ~4GB that a 32bit program can use. That’s why it’s cautioned not to do this on a 32bit system, as you’ll run the risk of eating all the system memory; leaving none for the OS.
SS#1: Have you tried setting it to ’Let the application decide"
If so:
Have you tried setting things to “Application-controlled” for ‘Manage 3D settings’ section of the control panel?
Could you also post what your Power Management settings are:
Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings
→
Change advanced power settings
→ list or screen shot EACH of the ‘+’ (expanded of course)
People think that ‘High Performance’ means everything is turned on, but even at ‘High Performance’ Dell laptops are still set to turn the HDD off after awhile.
The issue is Intel’s chip isn’t really designed for gaming beyond stuff like maybe WoW. It’s primary function is for Home Theater.
In theory, the system is suppose to switch to the dedicated video chip (Nvidia) when it detects certain conditions….like a flagged game exe, or a flagged DLL. You can see this happen if you try and run a game on a computer using Remote Desktop, you’ll get an error stating the Video Card doesn’t support DirectX.
This is why they say if you’re running a dedicated video chip to disable (in the bios) the on-board one, because the system doesn’t always switch between them. Worst of all, the two can end up fighting over processes that can run (barely) on the on-board, but runs great on the dedicated. (Same reason they say don’t install two antivirus programs, they compete and can mess you up).
But, like I said, most mass-produced systems (Dell, HP, Gateway, ASUS, etc) lock the BIOS down so they can use the same BIOS in multiple levels of computers and charge you extra for the enhancements*.
*My dad had a Dell that had HyperThreading disabled on it…..for ~$100 more he could get it turned on. What did he do? Got the BIOS of the HT-enabled series and saved ~$100. It was the exact same mobo I think it was like an 8200 and like the 8250 had the HT-enabled BIOS
I have a potential cause for the heat, after doing some testing with the umbra gpu command switch.
The graphics card is rendering everything in the scene!, there is almost practically no culling occuring apart from players on screen.
Still doesn’t explain why only a few people have it.
Is it just people running the game beyond 1920×1080?
Just did a test, ran around 1680×1050 (Fullscreen) and 1920×1080 (Fullscreen) GPU never went above 85c
Black Screen/Crash Issue - I just want to play my game...
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: illutian.7630
One thing to ask yourselves is. How much memory is the game using?
Right now sitting in Claypool I’m using 1.2GB, now if this is a 32bit game with Large-address Aware it should work to ~3.5GB, if not, it’s like 2GB or 2.5GB.
Skyrim had this issue and players came out with an EXE that would flag skyrim’s exe as LAA (Skyrim4GB was the app). Until Beth patched the skyrim EXE.
This could account for some of the crashes people are experiencing.
As for the OP’s, ya I get those sometimes too…even just sitting at the desktop. And by ‘sometimes’ I mean like maybe once a year….unless Nvidia releases an unstable Driver Set :P
And yes, this has even happened with World of Warcraft, though a driver update fixed it.
One thing you can do is if you get the ‘black screen’ just leave it, go get something to eat and see if the OS can recover.
Another thing, and I urge people to do this for ALL games, is run it Windowed. And if possible run dual monitor. I’ve played a number of games that would lock up (black screen), but the system was still responsive. I was able to at least perform a shutdown or in some chases kill the game’s process. Or in the case of a TDR, the one monitor with the game would go blank, entering into sleep mode, lose Aero. And get the Nvidia Drivers recovered from [yadda yadda].
And if you don’t have another monitor, then try enabling remote connections. If it happens you can access the computer remotely and try to shutdown that way. Most programs will crash-to-desktop if you switch to the RDP “Display Driver”.
Hmm, is it possible to go into the BIOS and disable the built-in Video Chip. Or is the BIOS locked down like most non-DIY computers?
-I know Dell locks their’s down, not sure if (looks like it from DxDiag) Asus does.
Sometimes you just go bad luck.
I had rolling BSoD with one of the recent Nvidia Driver Sets (280.96 or something; in between 280.26 and 295.73). I had that same driver set on the work machines, no issue. On my second rig, no problems. But this rig….it just didn’t like ’em. Even popped in a blank drive and did a OS+Video install, still BSoD on me.
I had issues with BF3, on my GTX 570 1.2GB it would CtD after about 40min of gameplay, regardless of settings, regardless of SP-campaign or MP. But it runs for hoooours on my GTX 670 4GB. Using the same amount of memory as it did on the 570.
Any number of things could affect game performance including Antivirus programs that monitor (aka scan) files/processes being accessed for suspicious activity. Could also be software-based Firewalls; sniffing the packets isn’t CPU-free :P
