Massive Lag

So I was wondering if theres a way to fix the massive lag I’m getting during the day up until and including the start of the evening , Ive already checked the ping and it turns out at 20ms.
I can’t seem to measure the pakket loss but I doubt that’s the issue (if it is/could be, how do I fix packet loss?)
Furthermore, I cant really point fingers but if this is not my fault but the server’s fault then what the hell is going on? how can an MMO of this caliber actually condone such lag ?

anyway, any help is greatly appreciated because this lag is taking away from the fun of the game really quickly and makes easy things challenging

Doing that would basically defeat the purpose of playing the game further.

Revamp of old GW1 skins

if Anet wants to make it rain real money they should just throw in popular gw1 skins , put them in the gemstore or something, cashcow deluxe inc. same for armor, throw obsidian armor skins in the gemstore (instead of krytan/profane/primeval, which to be frank are nasty looking compared to other skins from gw1 they could’ve chosen)

just for the sake of diversity in the community might as well add all elite armor to the store. resulting in massive cashrain and thusly money for hardware improval/expansions/proper updates/more staff

Discovering your Main

I started out with a thief that is still my main, in the meantime due to several updates I lost interest and made other characters → 80 warrior/guardian/elementalist/mesmer/mesmer/warrior (yeah I remade warrior and mesmer to be another race.) and ranger which I deleted not soon after.

gw1 main was a ranger and I wished I could run it on gw2 but the part where a pet is mandatory not optional made me steer away from the class.

Yes, last update had a “you are no longer kicked from instances you entered alone” Why not rework the entire thing and make it so that “Your party no longer gets kicked out of the instance when your leader leaves and it’s only the fifth time today”
7months in, this should’ve been an update that was thrown in around november.

GW2, Holy trinity, or just healing.

Their entire game is based around not having a trinity, that’s what makes this game different from others and what attracts people to play.

Secondly having a trinity (in other words a properly functioning aggro mechanic) would trivialize PvE content more than it is already trivialised

I should also add that the lack of a dedicated healer is the best thing that happened to PvP, no more building tournament teams around a healing class because there’s no other way to win.

New stealth length

in Thief

Posted by: insidiane.9570

insidiane.9570

The thing people are upset about isn’t the 4 seconds, it’s that the new rotation or rhythm is now in the middle of an autoattack chain and thieves are frustrated because it seems that this update was just put in at the last minute ( “so we’ve decided to pull this in favor of JUST adding 1 second…”) the devs post even showed some sense of carelessness in which they sat around a table at night all wanting to go home and just raised hands to get off of work rather than thinking it through.

thief isn’t broken, it’s just highly illogical to change stealth in a way that the CnD rotation falls in the middle of the autoattack chain and therefore removes any sense of rhythm because interrupting a chain for a rotation is odd.

Don’t misunderstand I’ll play my thief until I quit gw2 but this is one of the few updates on thief skills that seemed so out of place (and not to mention unexpected after the SoTG video where everyone got familiar with a proposed change which seemed better.) that Im getting worried about the future.

Particle effects-options please

Seconded this, PvE also could use this, on certain boss encounters (especially with 1 or more guardians in a party) the bosses get so cluttered with random effects that its very hard to see the attack animations of the boss and therefore making it that much harder to dodge certain skills.
While I’m at it , also the option to remove the GIANT BOSS NAMEPLATE in the middle of the screen, for instance on grawl boss I generally dodge his arrows (because they hit 9k and I have 13k health) however to do so I must turn the camera sideways because the nameplate is in the way.

Either way, particle effects may lagg more than just general character textures.

Dungeon Patch Discussion 1/28

Ok so this is basically a big whine thread. I roll a thief and ever since I accepted the fact that being a melee thief is too much work I rarely get downed and haven’t been fully killed (aside from things like jade maw beam ) since my respec.
Love the changes to fractals as disconnects are common and being able to continue a run with another person is a blessing, no more wasting 40minutes and then being unable to progress! so thanks for that. also the rally to checkpoint works well.

As for the removal of res-rushing thanks, it was obviously far from how dungeons were supposed to be played, I get how this thread has turned into a wildfire of hate and tears but every now and again I get people in a PUG party that just refuse to actually try, like for instance at Kohler, his attacks have an extremely OBVIOUS visual que: “hey guys im charging my attack get ready to dodge kk?” and people sometimes consistently refuse to dodge (there’s also people who sometimes missdodge/are channeling whatever, these aren’t included) and get torn to shreds. The dungeon encounters you’ll have to learn the hard way, AC is basically the easiest dungeon and if you don’t bother trying you die but I find AC in this example very forgiving.

I get how wiping while res-rushing may be anoying but think about it this way; your party died and the boss reset, you obviously were doing something wrong/ using the wrong tactics or whatever. At the point all 5 of a party die and reenter the bossroom and see it ‘gloating’ there there’s usually this moment werein people say “Okay we need to do this differently” then utility slots get swapped and a new approach is attempted. The concept of res-rushing removed the described new strategy and in general meant that 1 person was alive while other people rush back to the boss in hopes of getting there so the one survivor can die and the cycle can repeat, being with less than 5 people at an encouter causes
-less dps
-people get targeted more often because the boss has fewer to pick from
-no teammates to fall back on.

this change is for the better it just takes a different approach and some getting used to. I do wholeheartedly agree that some encounters (CoE p3 destroyer!!!) are very hard for the casual gamer and while I like learning curves to always be able to improve, some curves go up very steeply and I can understand how people get frustrated from dying over and over again (destroyer for example was only doable with res-rushing because the lava prevented normal resses)

Ill wait for the revised dungeons but I like the way the changes’ direction is aimed for

The thief and its gameplay - Your feedback [Merged]

Thief gameplay for me as a PvE oriented player is horrid, people tend to turn every thread regarding thieves in an entirely pvp related kittenstorm about how OP everything is. But over the course of the first few months that this game is live i’ve learned that thieves in PvE are generally the class that require the most attention/upkeep (you have to constantly pay attention because if you miss a visuel que you’re done for.) In short as a thief you have to bring your A-game to be as effective as any other class,

I’ve played all classes to 80 except for engineer and as a thief I can’t check my phone/respond to people talking to me IRL or anything of the sort because the moment I turn my head back to the screen I’m downed, whereas my warrior is basically an invulnerable metalmonster where I only need to keep in range, press 2 on CD and spam shouts as they become relevant.

For a proper balance in both PvE and PvP the skills should be split again just like it did in GW1 because skills that proved OP in a PvP setting and got nerfed resulted in a blow for the skill in PvE

Weaponwise PvE I came to find that most weapons are utterly useless and this leaves me with little room for creativity or preference.

Pistols in offhand are essentially useless in dungeons, aoe blind field has 0 use unless culling some trashmobs which every player skips where possible anyway. On bossfights I don’t bother to waste initiative on it. as for the dazing shot. It comes in handy during a handful of situations that need a quick tactical response (i.e. shooting a scavenger off of somebody because they can’t dodge) however once the boss is reached this skill becomes useless as well because it has 0 damage and stunning a boss takes 3-5-7 (even higher in tier2 and up fractals?)
The dual skills for pistols in offhand are decent when combined with another pistol to get some damage in or with a sword to whip out some decent damage (although this doesnt really go higher than 5-6k in balanced gear, just for reference my warrior has 12-18k on final hundred blades hit in full PVT gear. ) S/P is decent but then 4/5 would again lack in decent usefulness to actually work with consistently.

Daggers have the capability to dish out some decent damage however there is little room for creativity here as you will generally use heartseeker and backstab in damage builds or fly around with death blossom if running a condi build.
mainhand dagger combined with pistol gives a nice blind and gapcloser which have little use in PvE oriented situations where defiant basically ruins the entire use of the skill
Sword is my weapon of choice because of stable damage on the autoattack which gives some sustained damage (if I wouldnt melt whenever a boss looks at me wrong)
I combine this with a dagger to get an extra evasion along with two shadowsteps which I use whenever theyre off cooldown to have places to evade to. the CnD has less functionality in bossfights and I try to use it every now and again to get a tactical daze in.
Shortbow is probably the only weapon which I find useful enough to remain untouched in dungeons, I can blast some combo fields to be mildly supportive along with a leeching venom share build * . the autoattack bounces so thats nice for spreading poisons and the shadowstep and backjump can be utilized to get out of trouble when stuffs out to get me.
Anyway thats for the weapons, this obviously shines through to builds. The entire trait system was an agonizing change when coming from gw1 where Id get unlimited possibilities and all that I needed was creativity. For a thief in GW2 my options are extremely limited. I now use a venom share build to provide some minor heals, some might and little condition stacking, however I feel that I lack in damage using it, the big joke is basiliks venom which allows for (if coordinated well) 8-12 second stuns on bosses with a 30second cooldown.

Last thing my biggest dissapointment in a thief is how I have to sacrifice the thief’s “superior” single target damage, to get toughness and vitality to be remotely viable in higher level fractals for instance. How useful and fun to play a thief is in PVP thats exactly how terrible it is in PVE.
lack of viable build/weapon combo’s and things that make a thief “unmissable” in dungeons (I myself don’t have trouble finding groups but it pains my heart to see people on the fora saying how they cant get in parties because theyre a certain class, also seeing how people I know rerolled classes to actually play proper endgame saddens me, and makes it unmistakably clear that PvE should change, alot.) ruined my thief playexperience

elemental elite skills...

I very much agree that ele elites are rather useless, and even more so after playing 100+ hours on a warrior. I more or less live in wvw since I love that style of gameplay so much so having a useful 10th skill would be amazing.

When playing my 2 characters here’s what happens:

Ele: I forget I even have an elite. I just don’t really see a use in most situations. I normally roam with a couple friends (both play thieves now) and they pop their elite very often. I might use mine once a night if at all.

War: I use the Signet of Rage. Traited for a 48s CD and the boons last 39s. That means 9s CD for the boons and I ALWAYS pop it on CD.

Now I donno if it’s just me or what but there’s a clear difference in elites between classes. All of the mesmer elites are amazing; thieves get some great ones; warrior is a no brainer and is used right on CD; ranger’s could be better but at least they offer some utility to them; necro can blind spam in a fairly large aoe (god that’s annoying xD); Engineer’s supply crate is pretty nice (has a stun too!) though not the best; and guardian’s are a tad weak but if done well can give heals and invulnerability.

I would take any other class’s elites over the ele ones in a heart beat. We get a crap (though epic looking) GS and loose are normal skills which are better anyway; A golem that lasts 60s and really doesn’t do too much in wvw for having a 180s CD (though this is the best elite we get IMO); And the all but useless Tornado…..wow how bad that is in almost every situation. Our class is amazing but it really feels like our elites were just thrown in last minute.

This is my opinion after playing 700 hours on ele alone since launch and even more so in the betas. Our opinions may vary. Cheers~

Couldn’t agree more with this.

All our ellites are mayby not the strongest in game but they can serve very well, as long as you remember you don’t need to always, and fully use em.

Glyph of elementals is obviously very strong for soloing and PvE. Not necessarely dungeon tho. Nothing to complain there, great ellite.

Tornados problem is, you give up 20 skills to use tornado. Main thing to realise is, you don’t have to stay in it full duration, and you use it situationally, not something you always do.
Like in team/raid pvp you can use it just for few seconds on opening, or after some re-engage. Get 1 or 2 aoe knockbacks off. Or in smaller scale, interupt ressing/downing if for some reason running in staff.

Greatsword if you get behind of you group in wvw and need to catch up. Ofc this is stupid “pro” for GS, but it’s something. Or if runnign staff, you can gain some dps by using GS for a moment after you have blown your staff CDs/fields.

They not amazing but have their uses. Especially on tornado have to realise, you can always leave it early.

If we had ellite that reseted our attunument CDs, (like guardian one), I’d use that tho.

Why is it “useful” to have an elite that you only use for 10% of it’s duration? “You can always leave early” is the lamest excuse to make tornado any less bad of an elite. Also an “elite for catching up” is nonsense why would any class ever want that?

Quick question here about the thief’s dodge, it’s a different animation from other classes and it also has a different sounds. Does it actually DO anything differently than any other class or is it purely cosmetical?

Yeah she’s around “5missions later” as a spectral vision, that’s magic mumbojumbo and doesn’t pass as either dead or living in my book, but I did know she was killed by kralky later but it just struck me as odd that I also did it in dragon;s lair.

This might be a silly question to some of the more loreknowing people but it has spooked my thoughts for a while.
In the dragon’s lair mission the bonus was to kill glint right? It has been about 6andahalf years ago since I’ve done the mission but was that some sort of illusion or did the player eventually decide to not fully off Glint? In short , why is Glint not dead after Guildwars1?

Hello charr lovers,
(tl;dr: post what had you interested in the charr or what made you enjoy it further than you already did during your gameplay)

I made a char a while ago and was a bit ‘meh’ before I did it. I started in the ash legion and then there was a small dialog between Brimstone and Sicaea about your current mission. I’ll not quote the entire cinematic but there’s one sentence I’d like to post here:

Sicaea: The mission has developed a hiccup.
Brimstone: A hiccup? More like tuberculosis (…)

This simple part of the story and the way the voice acting is on brimstone in this part really had me going for the charr , I was all “Oh my word how awesome is this”
So here’s the general reason for this thread, what had you going for the charr to make you glad you chose a charr or what made you choose a charr in the first place.

Combat speed

in Suggestions

Posted by: insidiane.9570

insidiane.9570

I searched around a bit and saw a few comments in ‘mount related’ topics saying that they just don’t want to be slowed down in combat.

This is the most anoying part of my gaming experience right now, when you get hit you move extremely slow (the change is especially dreadful when running around with signet of shadows for instance and then entering combat) I play a thief and the things that spring to mind when thinking about a thief is agility and speed (and theft) right?
Especially in Orr , or in Orr related settings , the risen thralls I believe move like a steamtrain and rush at your character. Your character on the other hand feels like it’s stuck in a tar pool.

What I would like to see is combat movement speed remaining at 100% whereas currently it drops to 80%(?) it keeps the combat fast paced and more realistic, no one in a real situation would decide to move slower when dealing with a potentially fatal situation.

EDIT: I would like to add that I want to create a warrior charr , and I understand that a bigger character has slower animations but I’m dreading the percieved speed, especially when having a human thief prior to it, a big charr would give a more sluggish feel.
