As someone who loves using mortars, I welcome this suggestion. An increase in range in the trait can dramatically change how WvW is played in long term sieges.

A tier is the position your server (or other servers) is/are in. The best way to understand it is to look at this site:

As you can see, in Europe there are 27 servers, and every 3 make one tier. So, Tier one consists of Vizuna, Desolation, and Elona, while Tier nine (the last tier) consists of Blacktide, Vabbi, and Fissure of Woe.

Now, if you’re talking about gear tiers, then there are cultural gears, but that has nothing to do with WvW.

Frankly speaking, solo’ing in wvw isn’t nearly as fun as running with a small group. Do yourself a favor and just find a couple of good players to run with, and you will have so many things you can do and have fun with. You can ninja towers, ambush enemies, control supply camps, etc. Running solo is risky, and you won’t be accomplishing much at the end of the day.

P.S: The best thing you can do as a solo player is defending. You just need to know how to position AC’s, and you’re set to go…

Well I haven’t been in contact with them, but FA players are really good in small numbers although they don’t run together much iirc.

We have two major wvw guilds taking a break (trying out neverwinter), and many individuals are also taking a time off, including myself. Saying we’re staying in this tier because of you is somewhat correct, but also inaccurate. There are also other factors playing in that.

Moreover, saying we’re in this tier solely because of transfers is uncalled for and incorrect because we were tiering up before we got the transfers, the transfers made it faster and played a major role in dominating the tier.

Anyways, you had fun in our bl, and we had fun in your bl. Nothing is wrong with either party, so keep having fun, and no need to call each other names.

I think we need something dynamic in WvW similar, but not the same, to the old Orbs. I believe we were promised that the orbs will be revisited in later months, and it has been several months since its removal.

it mostly depends on if you’re running solo or with a guild. If by yourself then any server mid tier should do, if with a guild then you should look for lower tiers like T8 for example. WSR are currently recruiting.

Huh? RG isn’t the only guild that can rack up badges.

8 hours of active W3 for me can easily net between 1 and 2 stacks of 250 in T1 NA.

I am thinking about 2000 badges per item on average would be a good price.

’scuse me there are 6 T1 servers and 45 non T1 servers in the game, so its not about T1.

The most fair way to compare is to use time required to obtain in FotM and WvW. For medium-low tier servers it varies, and Anet has more accurate numbers than any of us. In my case 8 hours might get me 250 or so, depending if I’m sitting on cannons/ac’s or repairing/building defenses and doing the job others refuse to do, which again shows that doing the right thing in WvW is the least rewarding.

lol at using cannons and oil. Hold on a sec, I want to stand in the thousands of AoE attacks as they rain down upon me.

In lower to Mid-Tiers, using cannons and oils is the norm. In fact stacking up and building a cannon in the middle of a siege is also the norm, and so is focus heal on the person using a cannon.

OT: Defenders always did have the advantage. The way to look at it is if we compare equal numbers of defenders and invaders. From inside keeps/towers, you will always have the advantage of choosing when to attack, having the defensive siege coverage, and the ability to retreat to safety.

However, the one exception is the breakout event. In that case invaders easily have the edge.

There’s one thing people are somewhat ignoring about AC’s, and that’s the range buff. True its not as huge as the damage buff, but that means ac’s can be positioned at MUCH safer positions now than ever.

@Caliban: you make a good point, however I just want to be the devil’s advocate here and say that some people actually enjoy defending against larger groups, and reducing HP on walls/gates might make it impossible.

Nice post and i like some ideas. I was also thinking a solution about this. A new BL , where you wont be able to freely enter ,with different rules and build around a GvG point system from siege and kills. If you cant freely enter , how you will? We can have a long discussion about this ,some suggestions are, guild members > 10 members , some guild ranking system based on the rest BL , guild registration under a specific fee(badges f.e) and many more. The new BL should have new siege rules and huge control points ,where Guilds should fight each others. I beleive that is time that Anet should look all the hardcore WvW and not only the pve side……..

All in All, my favorite suggestion was the “king of the Hills” one. It adds a new flavor to the game. I also like your suggestion about the WvW xp cap on 10 ppl hitting one player to prevent blobbling. However, I’m not too keen on the idea of having gates and walls HP reduced because it makes upgrading less important. Instead, I would suggest to decrease only T1 gates/walls HP’s so that upgrading becomes more important, as well as wiping upgrades and cutting enemy supply lines.

Not sure saying ‘X’ beat ‘Y’ and I’ve beaten ‘X’ so I also can beat ‘Y’ makes any sense, all sorts of variables come into play and are in a state of flux from hour to hour, day to day etc.

There are indeed many factors, but do those factors come to play only when you want to use them for the sake of your arguments? He simply used the same logic used by someone from your server, to show you how flawed it was.

There’s many factors that come to play, 1 is the fact that Arborstone was actually stronger than WSR and the reason they dropped was because we focused on them.

FoW always had a healthy population. The problem always was that they really get affected by early results. Its a snowball effect, if they start winning they will become beastly, and if they start losing… Well they disappear. So basically it all comes down to the first night or two.

Alright, I like all your suggestions, but do you think you should be posting them in this thread, or even this sub-forum, or do you think it should go in the suggestion forum? All what you suggested is not in our hands but Anet’s.

That being said, at least your post has things to think about and consider, rather than just repeating the same record.

@knox: thank you for your concern, we have been burned before as well. It is bound to take time before the community stabilizes, and a couple of us are working on trying to integrate the said guilds into our community.

Let me ask you this, what do you suggest we do to solve your issues? Allow us to hear your constructive criticism instead of repeating what you think is the problem. If you actually have a solution then by all means post it, but if you want to put down another “RoS got 6 T1 guilds” then I’m afraid your post would be completely pointless and repetitive, and probably shall be reported.

I’ve said it over and over; we’ve heard your complaints and there is absolutely nothing we can do. These guilds did not break any game rule by moving because they are, like any of us, are entitled to do anything in the game as long as they don’t break the rules made by ArenaNet.

Tl;dr
If you have a complaint, send it to ArenaNet because they are the only ones that can actually do something, but don’t post it here.

Let’s just clarify one thing, VcY, FRS, and RiOT are now Surmian guilds. What would happen if we didn’t have them? I don’t know, its very possible we’d be losing this matchup, but not definitely. They are a force to be reckoned with, but that force is already part of our community, so why are you bringing this “what-if” scenario into this thread?

VcY and RiOT run around, and we call on them when we really have to, but other than that we hold on our own. They too like to do their own thing and have fun, and obviously they can’t help everywhere in the map. So saying VcY and RiOT are the only two guilds in our server is beyond sad, its pathetic.

Guys we’re trying to have fun, and we’re not exactly dominating this tier. RoF today pushed us so hard in EB, took SM from us and GH, and reached inner lowlands while pushing our side of the corner, and they are supposed to be the underdog of the matchup. And GH completely dominated us on the reset day, and that was our entire force including RiOT and VcY, so what’s stopping you from doing the same? I think one of yours already pointed out that its a morale issue.

I hope you guys get your morale back, and enjoy this matchup with us.

P.S: About FRS using spies and what not, I have no knowledge of that, and I do not approve of it. Will bring this up during the coming community meeting.

First off, you went off to insult every guild in Surmia except two that just recently joined, and also managed to insult ALL of RoF. For what? I was simply stating facts, I didn’t make assumptions nor accusations. Why would you go out of your way to insult a whole server? I’ve only seen this in Call of duty, and usually from kids I immediately mute.

Second, how did you conclude that I was whining? I am having a blast in this matchup, regardless of results. Also, you knowing of my guild or not is something that doesn’t concern me. We’ve played against GH before and we know many of them and they know us. You came recently to this tier, how do you expect to know us? And what makes you think that we expect you to know us? In fact, I don’t even understand why you wrote that in the first place. Your logic really confuses me.

Feel the Arborstone rolling ball. The first reset we had against them we almost kittenour pants from seeing their numbers. A little night capping here and there will decrease their morale, and AS is a very morale oriented server. If they win, they will just get more ppl, and if they start losing… well, you’ll see a completely different Arborstone (btw I am not trying to insult AS, just stating my observation and trying to give an advice to our old friends on FoW).

Just hang in there, the reset night for many guilds are just a weekly event, things might change during weekdays. Gl.

very challenging reset. It was really fun. At one point RoF had outmanned buff in EB and still managed to keep their entire corner + rouges as GH was focusing our corner, so kudos to both RoF and GH.

TEO can definitely get 20-30 man guild groups going

On a regular night and on reset we run with average 7-10 ppl. On special wvw guild events, we run with 20-25 ppl, but we’ve only done that twice the past 3 months and it does not really work well, since half of those are not WvW’ers. The past 10 days, we’ve had alot of inactives and so I usually ran with 4 or 5 guildmates. The weeks prior to that we topped a ‘healthy’ 12-13 man group. There’s also a few roamers that don’t really run with us and are not on comms and just like to run with the EB zerg (‘organized’ TEO mostly runs borders). So there you go.

Also, as an officer of GoA and a close friend to DEX, I can assure you none of us can get 15 at a time, except may be on a good reset.

Regarding numbers and using Teamspeak, we ask our members to use TS as much as possible and almost everyone in our guild uses it frequently, if not to talk then to at least listen. And when our guild leader takes command of the zerg we try to get everyone in the zerg on TS as well. This is a tactic that works for us and Ray was trying to tell you that it could help you, that’s all there is to it.

Now, my friend, please don’t take anything we say as an insult or brag. They were trying to give you friendly advices, but you clearly took it the wrong way.

Let’s at least finish the matchup without further arguing.

I ran with them yesterday, just to observe, and I can tell you these guys are just fun to watch. Very nice people as well, unlike many guilds who transfer from higher tiers, they are anything but elitists. They immediately hopped on our forum and introduced themselves and they constantly communicate with us, unlike some of the transfer guilds we’ve had before. Whether they improve the server or not, I am glad they became part of our Surmia family.
