I’m never able to compete in these tournaments because of the forced time you need to play your matches on. Have you guys ever considered having tournaments where teams can schedule their matches with the other team? (there would be a default match date and time I’m case both teams couldn’t agree on set time). I’m sure I do not stand alone on this…

First of all, I’d like to preface this by saying I do not play a Ranger.
With that in mind, you may want to take my words with a grain of salt…
Warning: My arguments henceforth are probably flawed and unwarranted…
I digress…
It’s pretty clear that the majority of the community thinks that Rangers (in their current state) needs the most love in terms of buffs. (Heck, we discursively voted on it.)
Now with that in mind… the upcoming changes for Rangers:
Keen Edge This trait now classified as Survival.
Sun Spirit: Fixed a bug that caused the spirit to have a 3 second base burn when triggered by projectile.
Spirit of Nature: Reduced healing per second when summoned from 480 to 320.
Viper’s Nest: This ability is now a poison field.Trapper’s Expertise: Fixed bug where thrown traps now work placed on certain building.
Lightning Reflexes: This skill now removes immobilize.
Pet: Improved pet responsiveness and pet skills response.
Bug Fixes!
Marksmanship: Read the Wind: Longbow and Harpoon Gun projectile velocity is increased by 100%.
Skirmishing: Strider’s Defense – You have a 15% chance to block ranged attacks while in melee.
Wilderness Survival : Poison Master – Poison you apply deals 50% extra damage. Poison your pet’s first attack when they are swapped to.
Nature Magic: Survival of the fittest – Remove two conditions and gain fury when using a survival skill.
Beast Mastery: Invigorating Bond- Your pet heals in an area when executing command abilities (i.e. your F2 skill now heals in an area)

I’m no expert on Rangers, so if I’m speaking out of line… please forgive my ignorance. But those changes don’t seem… sufficient?
To be honest, they don’t even seem functional with any “meta worthy” builds. (at least in my eyes.)
Am I wrong? I’d be happy to know that I am. I would sincerely hate for Rangers to get shafted in this balance patch and stuck in the dumps yet again.

I’ve been playing this game for almost a year and half now, however, i took a lot of time off in between. I’ve only done spvp so i’m very experienced with the pvp aspect of it. I was rated top 100 at one point and am rank 4x (before rank shift).
I wish to enjoy all the other aspects of the game now (will still spvp). I’m playing from Asia, so i am looking for a guild on jq that plays in the asian/aussie timezone. I am NOT willing to transfer unless it is a paid for transfer by your guild.

I just transferred to JQ not too long ago so I’m not willing to transfer.
I’ve been playing this game for well over a year now, however, i did take a long break. All i have done was spvp. Currently ranked 40 in spvp and was top 100 in ranking before trying to form a team. I’m interested in playing wvw and pve. Here are a few quick notes about myself
I am pretty much a noob level 80 because the only thing i really know what to do in this game is pvp (and the things related to it such as builds etc). I’m looking for a guild that can help walk me through what i need to do to get involved in the pve/wvw aspect of it! I’m a very intelligent player so i WILL pick up on it quickly. I also have PLENTY of gold.

It’s an elite. It’s got a one hour cooldown. You won’t see people in upper in pvp using it over mass invis. It only lasts 10 sec. A mesmer could say the same thing a Necros elite.

– immediately lost stealth out of shadow refuge twice…no attacks or enemies near by.

You guys are kind of missing the point I was trying to make. Usually Rangers are the first class I go after when I play something else since most are glass. Obviously this guy wasn’t glass and caught me by surprise. If we dueled I’m sure I would win more than I lost but in a one off I think it would have come down to the wire.
The damage was really good. I wish the logs would show condi damage
you’re right, sorry about that. But yes, if you compare just damage, they are pretty solid. If they had better forms of condi removal and stun break….well just condi removal even, they’d be VERY viable in tpvp.

the big problem on cleansing ire is,it can be evade, if you evade his earthquake and bow f1, that booth got an HUGH animation, what helps are spider pets, they are not melee and got not hit so often from the f1 so..no cleansing ire
Your right about earthshaker, wrong about bow f1. Combustive shot doesn’t need a target. It’s an aoe skill, cleansing ire procs everytime with it. No target needed.

If you cant dodge hammer stun in a 1v1, no amount of stunbreakers are going to help you – you’re just bad at playing. And besides, its very common to play trap rangers with 2 traps + LR, which is what I do.
Dodge an aoe stun every 7 1/2 seconds, plus Back breaker & staggering blow? You only have two dodges, you use energy sigil and sword…your still going to eventually get stunned. Not to mention he’s cleansing your conditions everytime he uses a Burts skill (assuming he’s 30 into defense which every hammer is). I know this because I’ve played a trap ranger and a hammer warrior. Can’t even argue with this fact from a logical standpoint either. You say you run only two traps, if your last utility is a stun breaker, the cooldown on that (the fastest one avail to a ranger…traited) is 32 seconds.
just a question…. you’re a ranger right? So that means you’ve got an incredible amount of chill and/or cripple… and if you’re also a trap ranger you should have A LOT of cripple + an immob on one trap… not to mention you’re running a shortbow which gives you a slight gap opener +evade + swiftness…. so why the kitten are you in melee range?
If the warrior is using a hammer they don’t have kitten for gap closing, and if they do they gave up defensive utilities, ABUSE THE kitten out of that and make them your kitten from range…. Congrats, they can’t clear anything and cant even build adrenaline after the first stun whiff.
Your assuming the warrior is only using hammer, then yes, of course you can win. Try playing against a hambow warrior. If he’s running settlers or soldier he simply will not die. If he’s using zerk, not only is he dishing damage but has incredible sustain for a zerk due to healing signet.
Let’s go thru this one by one…
The warrior WILL clear condis because long bow burst is 100% clear, there goes most your dps. You probably will not do a very good job immobilizing him if he’s using Dogged March. Even if you do he’s got weapon swap on five second cooldown and can hit you ranged as well. Can’t do much damage with short bow ranged if the warrior is facing you (assuming your running a condition amulet which you should be with traps), which you could easily argue that the warrior actually has better dps ranged with Longbow than the shortbow on ranger. But that’s a different story. Also you assume that he can’t cripple and immobilize you (hammer 3,longbow 5).
My point: if you try and soft cc him he’ll only wipe the conditions via Longbow burst, that’s if Dogged March hasn’t gotten rid of them already. Even if he doesn’t cleanse, he still has just as good damage, arguably better damage, from range. Shortbow does not do that much damage in a one v one, most your damage are coming from traps. Assuming your good enough to even land the traps and keep him cc’d (which you can’t against a good warrior) it’s STILL a contest.
I haven’t even gotten to utilities yet, he can keep your condis off for 8 seconds via zerk stance and because you don’t have any stuns (excluding bow 5) he can run kick, bull charge and or bolas for more cc and a gap closer (more things you have to dodge) or the condi cleanse signet.
Also, remember just how much sustain a warrior has right now. Settlers or soldier + Hs = he’s immortal. And the last thing I want to hear please is poison because that condi gets removed via burst.
Also, I WANT to be wrong about this, I love rangers and want to play the class seeing as it used to be my main. But…it’s just not a contest in the current meta.

Are you intending to use this build in SPVP? Although they have nerfed the ability to perma stealth from the black powder and heart seeker combo, it is still a viable build, although for SPVP there are currently much better builds out there at the moment IMO if you want to help your team win some matches efficiently.
The need for 30 points in the SA line is a lot less important in SPVP then in WVW…PM me if you want for the build I use in SPVP currently which does quite well in tournament matches and is very challenging/fun to play…

Recruiting a couple for our starting/main lineup.
We’re not recruiting mass so don’t expect it to be a guild you join just to find ringers for pugs.
We are trying to pick up a couple more for a consistent five man roster with some backups rotating in and out.
Looking for someone willing to practice and play tpvp as a priority, not set on one class and build but willing to practice and explore different comps. Someone that’s focused on winning and upping our rank as a TEAM.
Planning on playing with the same five or six people just about everyday to be on top of the spvp world whenever they eventually implement more tournaments/ladders. We need that core!

* Currently: A ton of passive play through AI.
* Issue: First and foremost…it requires no real skill. There is so much active AI that at times it’s hard to even see and/or hit your target. On a smaller mid point like temple…add aoe animations on top and it’s just a cluster f***. As a player it’s hard to even see what’s going in. From an esport point of view, this is very very bad. Not only is it boring to watch someone with an AI build play, but half the time you can’t even see what’s going on. Who would be attracted to that? Even playing it isn’t fun. Let’s say two minion mancers, a spirit ranger, and thief are fighting on point…thief uses thieves guild….do you think any audience is going to know what the heck is going on? Or let alone BE attracted to the game? This has to be handled.
* Suggestion: I don’t see anet ever getting rid of them but at least allow us to see what’s going on. Reduce the size of AI 50% (except for elites and clones) . This could be an issue with asura characters but that’s another topic. Ideally I would like anet to introduce new builds, more variety so that people could actually move on from the passive play. More rewarding, yet challenging manual builds. Passive builds should be easy but less rewarding. Active builds should be more challenging, yet more rewarding. This would make higher level pvp run less AI hence…would influence the less talented/proven players.
Gametypes
* Currently: Conquer only with each map having different side objectives.
* Issue: Although this gametype is not a bad gametype especially for esport, we lack variety of pvp…we get bored playing the same gametype everytime. This gametype also forces certain builds to be played (ie aoe conditions, bunkers, more aoe) which is why we have the meta we have today.
* Suggestion: Add a 1v1, 2v2, 5v5 deathmatch mode. Maybe even add side objectives within the deathmatch to make things more interesting. Capture the flag has also been discussed. What about a siege gametype?
And finally….please add in voice com feature…seeing as how team oriented and competitive this game can be, why not add in-game chat for party members? This would make solo, pug, team ques way more enjoyable. If someone is annoying simply mute him/her. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t want this simple feature to be added.

Spvp, as many know, has so much potential but is being seriously held back. Now the current state isn’t exactly hopeless or far from breaking through, but a few more additions/modifications could really push this baby through.
After a year of experience, not too much has changed with the spvp. Here are my suggestions I have to help improve, grow, and bring back players to the spvp environment.
Please give constructive criticism on these thoughts, I’m no developer, merely a competitive player with extensive background in various games.
Also please provide any other suggestions you have that may help the cause! Please no flaming/arguing.

* Currently: ranked solo, ranked team
* The Issue: The only form of competitive play we’ve had since launch (free and paid Ques weren’t much different…and I’m leaving out hotjoin). This is a serious issue. Why? Because every game really means nothing. There is nothing to play or practice for. If there is nothing to play for, why play? The drive to actually play goes down to zero. If we had something to play for, real rankings, real standings, then you can create an esport. To grow big we need leagues or ladders, not pointless “tournaments”. What happens if I have one friend I want to play with? I’m forced to do team que which would only ruin my only form of ranking (Since everyone knows solo ques really mean nothing) . I don’t understand why players are personally individually ranked based on team performance…and that team isn’t even a real team 95% of the time. If I que with one friend I’m risking ruining my only form of ranking.
* Suggestion: Keep hotjoin. Keep solo que. Make the current team que into pug que. Keep the current prizes for incentive to play for average Joes. Get rid of rankings. Add in a 1v1 gametype with ranks (be able to filter ranks by class as well), this will give a legit individual rank. Add a team que. This que will be only for 5 man premade teams. Unranked. Finally, make a team league and/or ladder for ranks on teams. Players have to register on a team/guild in order to play, that TEAM is then ranked based on win/loss/points for/points against. I’d prefer a league in which there would be 6 to 8 matches, once a week, then X number of teams advance to playoffs. Prizes are then distributed. Prizes for league should be very big. Honestly even if there aren’t prizes it’s a way to actually determine the best teams. People will begin to take things more seriously which means more teams, more practice, more team ques. Really the only reason I play spvp right now is because of the hopes of there being a future and that I’m actually progressing my pve character. I hope THAT feature does not go away.

* Currently: To be frank, there are none
* The Issue: Nothing to play for really
* Suggestion: The above suggestion should help teams begin to form. Add in a recruitment thread as well as looking for guild thread. Add a feature in-game for recruitment, scrims, and ringers for team ques.
Conditions
* Currently: Overtaking the current meta
* Issue: Conditions have completely taken over and it’s locking us into certain builds. This wouldn’t be too bad if it wasn’t for the fact most builds have to give up so much for condition cleansing. This is why we are limited to so little builds.
* Suggestion: Let’s brain storm here, there are a lot of ways to address this, here are a couple things to ponder about. What about scaling condition damage with toughness like power does? Or introducing a stat that reduces condition damage as toughness does power? Maybe giving every class the ability to actively remove two conditions on a 30-60 second cd? What about capping the maximum stacks? What about a new boon that acts as our current protection boon but for condition?

I’ve heard a lot of players/teams have moved on and it’s been personally difficult to find players who still are interested in actually striving to be on top of the pvp world. I’ve looked around but can’t seem to find ANY group/individuals in or out of game. I’m sure there are people in the same boat as I am out there so if your down lemme know!
Honestly rank doesn’t even matter, like I said, even strictly theory craters are welcome. I honestly strongly believe that there are ways to even change the current meta with certain unique team comps, this of course is impossible to actually test without a group.
I also have my own vent/ts and will also eventually open it to anyone who wants to hop on to have organized pugs. Anyone that’s interested pm me!

By experienced I mean in pvp. I’ve played this game since last year but took 10 months off and am starting to play again hardcore! When I did play I leveled a character to 60,entered the mists, and never left. Thanks to these new tomes of knowledge I have an 80 and 40 (who will probably very soon be 80 thru more tomes and crafting).
I would like to get into more pve/wvw/events as well. I will still continue to spvp a lot, however.
Few things about me…
- I’m currently on anvil rock but am willing to change servers.
- prefer to play on voice coms (ts/vent/etc)
- rank 30 spvp (would be higher if it weren’t for the 10 break, also I rarely hotjoin, tournament only)
- currently ranked top 200 in team pvp after a couple hours of play off a year long break if that means anything
- 26 years old
- social, enjoy joking around, laughing
- inexperienced in pve and wvw but very experienced in spvp/current meta/builds
- I’m very down to earth and everything I do or say is out of good/fun will.
- currently residing in Florida, USA. I spend a lot of time in Asia too
My thoughts on the guild I join…
- I’d like to avoid guilds with a million rules
- I can’t play with guys who get their feelings hurt easily too…especially in a video game -_- please be able to take a joke

Rank 28 here, (took about a year off so my rank isn’t nearly as high as it should be, plus when i did play i rarely did hotjoin) looking for a group of people to play actively with.
I have a buddy of mine that is a solid pvper that is new to the game that is learning with me, but i pretty much have no group/team/guild to play with right now. Looking to either put together or join any group out there. I know there isn’t much going on right now in spvp but still, i’d like to find a group of people that are down to do tpvp all the time and possibly go on to do tournaments when they come out.

I hope A-Net will hear this out. I’ve been playing this game for about a year now and from the get-go I have been playing Ranger class as a main. This past year it’s become so pointless to play a ranger that it’s just unbearably disappointing.
I’m going to bullet all of my opinions/concerns so that they are easier to read.
I would love opinions from fellow players. Feel free to call me a kitten as well. Seeing as I am probably not as experienced as a lot of you, you COULD have better reasoning than I. If that’s the case, I would love to be humbled and hear an address.
Speaking from an spvp perspective….
- The only viable builds in this past year has been the spirits build, beastmaster build, trap build.
- How many threads have been posted in the last few months about new builds/theorycrafting/ideas concerning how a ranger should be played? None, why? Because with the traits, skills, and weapon combination Rangers grant NO options.
- You guys want diverse builds and weapons being used? There are NONE
- With the recent nerfs to spirits and bm builds…what exactly would people play in this/the next meta?
- Honestly the only thing rangers HAD was spirits and bm…even if you DIDN’T nerf them….still…more diversity would be nice. Oh and traps were decent. But whats the point in condition pressure thru ranger when necro can do it way better?
- What team would want a ranger on their 5 man comp?
- Even with other game modes, what build does the ranger have that would actually be any good? None, every build rangers have is outdone by another profession
- Many people want power builds….our pure damage output is horrible and isn’t even close to being able to burst (unless you go full glass canon with longbow…which pretty much makes you worthless)
- Ranger power burst damage: Not even that high and extremely hard to land anyway if you traited for it. Even if you did…your worthless…this is why no one plays power rangers
- Ranger condition damage: Why play a trap ranger when….you can play necro?
- Rangers are FORCED into condition/toughness or condition/regen. This is because we have no solid power traits or skills. GS and LB don’t dish out damage! Well LB does but it’s slow and worthless. This is why EVERY ranger uses either shorbow, axe, sword. This is also why EVERY ranger uses a condition amulet.
- EVERY build uses the wilderness line….every single one
- a passive trait is a ranger’s best source of condition removal <—-this is a problem
Weapons:
- Many people want to use GS….nope, the changes you’ve made still make this weapon UNVIABLE. What the heck does a GS bring to the table? This weapon has even sniffed being used in competitive play
- Many people want to use LB…nope, the changes you’ve made still make this weapon UNVAIBLE. What the heck does LB bring to the table? Slow burst from range that can easily be negated. Granted for it to actually BE a burst you have to fully trait for it which again…makes you worthless in any scenario.
- Damage on shortbow sucks…I understand it’s a condition weapon. Necro’s attack 1 can stack bleeds face on…any angle, rangers have to do it from the side/behind? The other conditions on shortbow aren’t even really that good, the dps on a shortbow isn’t even that great…and it’s one of the best weapons rangers have. Isn’t that a statement?
- Axe(main and off): Axe 1…i mean really? Horrible damage so even though it reflects it’s like throwing pebbles at people (especially since NO ONE runs power builds). Axe 2 and 3 are really the only decent skills…and Axe 2 is only good if you are point blank range! Axe 5…i mean when’s the last time you saw THIS skill used in a game? It’s good to self immobilize you to take a burst, that’s what it’s good for. Yeah, can’t say i’ve EVER seen an offhand axe used in spvp.
- Sword: billions of players from the community complain about sword 1 root, i even refuse to use this stupid weapon because of that. Sword, btw, is used only for evades and added conditions…maybe even mobility with monarchs. Again…rangers forced into a certain spec (condition). And the conditions you get OUT of sword is just one decent poison attack! (not counting cripple).
Please, please, open up some new potential builds. Shortbow and Axe are just…..cmon! I’m not going to even include sword b/c most rangers only use it for evades anyway!
If you want rangers to stay a condition damage class, change the skills on LB and GS.
If you DO want people using power builds as rangers…well, your not even close to making that happen.
If you want to give us less survivability (nerf to spirts, endurance), give us some kind of dps/boons/conditions in return….Rangers have NOTHING that is actually significant enough to stand out
If you want to give us MORE survivability…well, start with active condition removal..maybe some stability outside of RAO.

what are you talking about, you people are nuts. A 3.75 sec stun on a 7sec cd is in no world balanced; not only that but given the fact you have heavy armor, high hp, high damage output, and high mobility you shouldn’t be complaining at all. Warriors literally are the one of the most overpowered things in this game and if you don’t think so you’re lying to yourself big time.
literally one of the most op things in the game right now? Please answer me this ONE question then, WHY do you ZERO warriors at high level tpvp? Why? Please, PLEASE tell me why? It would only be LOGICAL that if they WERE OP then we would see at least one per team. Necros and rangers have been the latest…LEGITIMATE topic of discussion when it comes to OP…why is it a legit discussion? Well, the fact that EVERY SINGLE top team rolls at least one each helps the argument. Bottom line, the best teams in this game would all have one if it was OP (even then, it still could not be OP)
Also…please understand that the mace burst skill, along with the solid facts about adrenaline requirement my fellow gw2 peers have provided, is NOT a locked-on skill and has absolutely not range. What does this mean? It means it can be EASILY dodged…i mean kitten, you can dodge it without even actually dodging. If you DO get caught with it, stun break….if you don’t have any left, your teammates should be able to interrupt the 30 minute animation of 100blades. If you AND your team has downs, then well, unless your built extremely squishy, you’ll still be alive….which means that this whole process I just explained, must happen TWICE for you to actually go down. I don’t know about you, but having TWO chances at something is PLENTY in my book when it comes to player vs player in ANYTHING.
Wanna avoid being stuned for 4 seconds? Stay at 130+ range. Can’t stay at 130+ range? Get to 0 range/behind him/beside him. You’re bad with movement and you can’t seem to NOT stand RIGHT in front of him from 1-130 range? Use a stunbreak. Don’t have stunbreaks (for some kittened reason)? Ask teammate to interrupt.
it’s sooo easy to miss the mace burst skill, aegis, blocks, blinds, stealth, evades….kitten simply being smart with wasd you can avoid the shot. If he misses, it’s on CD again.
I’m not saying you can NOT be stunlocked, because any good player playing a stun lock build WILL try and juggle you…in fact they WILL juggle you if you let them/suck/or get outplayed. My point is, even if you get locked and juggled, it’s not insta-death, they have to land that sequence again to actually kill you (unless they are rolling zerker gear…which certainly is not OP b/c he will probably go down when you do). When players who think they are good but actually aren’t, fight someone with this build that is actually GOOD at it, they get juggled multiple times (keyword, multiple) and end up dying. If the warrior could literally stunlock everyclass and once the opponent get’s stunned, it’s gameover, THEN it’s OP.
Once the warrior goes thru his sequence…land it or not, the skills are on cooldown. The only one that’s most frequently available is the mace burst skill which is the hardest to land. Bulls rush, kick, stomp, shield bash, tremor, all these skills are 25-45 second cooldown. What does this mean? This means if you can succesfully negate the first stun sequence the warrior is trying to put on you, you can kitten his entire chain up. He can NOT lock/juggle you anymore. For the next half minute the only thing he’s got is a very very short, non-lockable stun skill.
I’m pretty sure i just stated like 500 ways to actually counter this build, how is it OP? In my eyes, it’s quite the opposite, to compete with the higher end class/builds, this warrior class needs some more buffs.
You think the stunlocking is OP? Why not talk about us mesmers then? You do realize we can stunlock you as well right? not only that, we can do it from 1200 range. We dont have 100 blades? we have phantasms that have fury. Signet of domination + pistol 5 = 5 seconds of stun traited. Then we can trait so that our dazes have 50% chance to stun so we can shatter….you know what, nevermind.

How does a class go from zero to hero because of ONE extra second of stun on mace and higher passive heal that not everyone even uses.
I mean how do you NOT counter one. MS/GS? He is OBVIOUSLY going to be constantly trying to set up his 100 blades. You have stun breaks….use them when he uses 100blades,dont use it when he shield bashes you and follows it up with auto attack. You guys do know that shield bash and mace auto attack will deal all of 5 damage right? Wait what? You have no stun breaks? Why are you 1v1ing a STUNto100blades warrior without stun breaks? Oh your not specced to counter a warrior because it’s tpvp? Then what are your teammates doing while the warrior is doing a 1hour dance recital in your face….rooted? No one wants to interrupt him? Then your team is bad.
Even then….EVEN THEN, you can not be “locked” and die without being able to use a single skill. There are small breaks in between for you to counter/escape. After the mace stun, it takes another almost8 seconds to use again. Let’s say you eat the 100blades, you have a 4 second window before the only cc skill he has available to him now is…well available, oh and did I mention that that stun skill he has is also the hardest to land? It doesn’t lock nor have range.
Anything that is NOT GS lacks burst and you can afford to be “locked” and still win. Tpvp? One word…Teammates.
Don’t get me wrong, stunnlock build isn’t bad, but if it were truly op why wouldn’t the top tier teams ALL be running them? In fact none to one are.
This class needs BUFFS not NERFS. If you takeaway the only potentially viable build they have, you truly are making this class worthless. Why nerf a class that’s already on the bottom of the food chain?
Note: I mained a ranger and main a mesmer right now.
