As the date of launch of expansion nears new players and old returning players are increasing map totals.
This happens in every game for periods of time that are active and have new content arriving to them.
for weeks after the new content launches it should be much slower at the world boss events during most times of day.
It should be called and yes this is sort of a “balls and shaft” reference in a manner:
Scythe and Cloak [TOMB]
or even cheesier
Onyx Devils [MIRE]
Pretty lame I know but it amuses me.
So where would the server location of this guild me from a WvW sense. I am just curious?
Did it get a name and creation yet? I just started back with this game after a yearish. I forgot everything
Would join.
The name you suggest OP is also fine with me I am not bothered by a name so much. Would not join if name is deathly hollows…way over the top cliche. I know mine are to but that crosses my line
Last year, we had discussed about the PVP offering of Gw2 compared to what is happening on the MOBA scene:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/sPvP-needs-its-own-business-model/first
Now that those games are out, we see the MOBA scene growing stronger than ever.
It’s still time to keep Gw2 as it is (and not deleting features in it, plz plz plz) and offering a new game based on SPVP (simply cut all pve and wvw out of it, to have a small download, so f2p try it without wasting 60gig of download).
It should be easy enough to make a SPVP only downloadable game with specialization rotation and a means to buy those specialization at high GEM cost.
That way SPVP players could contribute to GEM store like the others with clear incentives.
Both model work, make them work together.
Put that game linkable with Gw2 game buyers optional. So, the Buy 2 Win crowd would still be happy to get their same old model, while the f2p pvp players could cater with mind like players into a fair competitive model.
Without a PVP only offering, Gw2 can’t compete in the sPvP scene like the MOBA do.
And when I say compete, I don’t talk about 10 000 spvp players.
I think about the 100 millions potential customer.
100’s of millions? While I know we have a pretty robust population world wide I am wondering who this 100’s of millions is? You cannot even get 100 million people to agree to play the same type of game let alone the same actual game.
Before the season starts, I will be updating the Necromancer PvP Guide in my signature, and making a brand new one that will explain more thoroughly and more in detail on how to survive better, and other tricks you can do on Necromancer.
But for now, YOU as the player playing Necromancer every single game you get into in PvP, you need to do your research. See what team comp the enemy team is running, and try to predict what they might be running as a build. Either power or condi, or even a hybrid. (Mostly 99% of the time classes run the meta build in ranked, so be sure to keep up to date what’s the metabuild.)
Let me give you some words of wisdom. This is how these 2 stats work in PvP.
Vitality=Very good for reducing Condition Damage
Toughness=Very good for reducing Power Damage
Plan accordingly, on what amulet you will be taking and what rune you’ll be taking. Don’t be afraid to change up your build to try and survive better against either a power comp on the other side or a condi comp on the other side. Most of the time, if there’s only 2 condi class on the other side but 3 power, pick a toughness amulet and a toughness rune. The reason? Because Necromancer has many condition cleanses on fairly low cool down. Use the abilities/amulet/rune/sigils/traits to your advantage to try and survive longer.
Remember, always and when I mean always I MEAN ALWAYS expect to be focused and be prepared to get focused every single game you step into. That’s the team strategy around Necromancer, you get focused a lot because you are squishy, but also very dangerous.
I’ve been talking about why Necromancer is weak, and because of its lack of sustain, but the biggest advantage that Necromancer has is it is the king of teamfighting. No other class has the DPS teamfighting capability of a Necromancer. Necromancer has both a ton of AoE damage and Single Target damage to do its killing, but even though it is the greatest teamfighter, you will die and explore the wonders of down state A LOT if you are not prepared to be focused.
I’ll be going more in depth about Necromancer soon, when my new guide hits the forums, if you guys are still having trouble on Necromancer, go check that out when it gets posted by me, as I can tell you right now, it will be fully in depth and thorough about what to do and what not to do on Necromancer.
Long story short, is necromancer viable this upcoming season? Absolutely. Is it an easy class to play and learn? Absolutely. Is it an easy class to survive and position on? No, not at all. Always remember, Necromancer is the king and god of teamfighting dps, but it suffers the major blow back of being taken down easily into downstate, if the one using necromancer is not prepared to take the focus.

Blah, blah, blah. You are in big trouble playing a Necromancer against people your own skill level most of the time. Yeah maybe if your Nos or someone like that who have twitch skills and experience in the 99% percentile you can do just great playing Necro but really I see no reason to play one in solo q its way too frustrating. Maybe a duo but even then its frustrating a lot of the time. So much condition hate in this game anymore. In solo queue no one will pressure off you most of the time. In solo queue you don’t have a group to coordinate chain rezzing of you. A couple of well played warriors on one side or one really and you might as well just switch to something else during warm up because they will make your life miserable I don’t care who much kiting and pre-kiting and coming to fights late that you do.
[/quote]
Do you even necro? I hear your angst I just don’t care. I am guessing most 2v1 in this game class to class get won by the 2 if all things are equal and yes that is my GUESS I have no proof.
Necro could use some specific types of love but lets be real, not gonna get it. The devs in this game have let their ego outgrow their ability to reason. We the players don’t know a thing about the game and need to be baby sat I guess.
In the end who really cares? Why did you comment? Why did I kitten?
I don’t really care if I get trolled on this.
Almost one year in on HoT. We were given mentor tags. We were givien expanded comm abilities. Still it’s like pulling teeth to get folks to even apple on events or give any kind of guidance.
It just seems crazy to me. Why wouldn’t U want to give back on experiece and knowledge u’ve gained to help the next generation come in , stay exited, and help those after them?
I’ve tried for almost an entire year to at least get folk to put up those mentor’s on events while they’re active, to ask people to point out wp’s of current objective: to show map is active and to show people where things are happening currently, to no avail.
Idk if people are just scared to mentor , or just like forget u I can’t spend a second to help anyone, I got another chest to open?
It’s just seems crazy to me. With the tools anet has given us to take on some kind of role in leading and 95% of folks just look for a comm or say screw it.
tdlr: why not help someone outside yourself. Just takes a few seconds in many instances, and you help everyone including yourself???
greed is simpler for most people and the best thing you can be greedy with is your time.
You cannot make people be nice and helpful by berating them. Believe me I have tried. I have tried in ways you will never know and I promise you never want to find out. In ways that will jar you from your sleep on starless nights…
You simply cannot make most people do anything with this tactic. However you could alter your methodology.
Why not use greed against them rather than be exploited by it and offer them something for their time. After all it is their time and not your time, with which they are free to do as they please.
Hello All,
In the past we’ve seen grand ploys to garnish your hard-earned cash into the GW2 gem store. Nothing so innocent as a really fab skin, or a black lion ticket. No, no… We’ve seen straight up “gambling” (halloween raffle for Halloween 2013 skins) and “Salami Slicing” (gem to gold exchange UI update).
Now, we are faced with the next big thing in ANet’s corrupted history: Insider Trading.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with insider trading, please google it.
How did Anet perform the illegal action of insider trading? Let me draw your attention to this very post:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/ghastly-grinning-shield-skin/first#post6071210
Now, i would like to draw your attention to this post, where an ANet developer released a comment on the GW2 sub-Reddit, but ANET_AndrewM:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4g3t53/so_i_found_this/d2grweu
“This is part of some updates that I’ve been working on with the mystic forge, though we had not intended it to go out with last weeks build, as some parts of the change still need some work.
I didn’t put this in the update notes since it wasn’t meant to go live yet, but since it apparently went through, we added the Bloodbound weapons, Shadow of the Mad King weapons, and some weapons with no way to get them anymore like Scarlet’s Kiss to the mystic forge as possible rewards for combining rare weapons."
Is this just “merely coincidence”? Could it be “merely coincidence” that a small group of players just all of sudden, decided to start lowering the prices on their backstocks of Halloween 2013 weapon skins? Could it just be “merely coincidence” that the market on such items was at an all time low, in terms of demand, that affected the price?
I’ll let you answer that, but for me, the two posts are liking writing on the wall.
Since we’ve easily allowed gambling, and salami slicing to occur without much resistance from the community, i believe this too shall pass, as no one will really care, and proceed to be happy about their new Halloween 2013 skin, much like i am with my new greatsaw. However, i wonder ‘how far’ is ‘too far’?
7/26/2016 – Update: It has happened again. This time with Stabilizing Matrix. Someone over on the subreddit found it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4ur0o1/stabilizing_matrices_and_insider_trading/
So if these posts elude to changes that affect mass sell out or cornering and inflation and deflation of a specific market item AND they are being released to reddit prior to this “change” being made then how it is “insider trading”? By your wording here wouldn’t anyone that can start the internet and go to reddit read the very same post; And if that is so can they not also partake in said “insider trading” along with all the “intended” recipients of this knowledge?
edit:
next time I will check the original posting date and not waste my time… disregard.

How can we have more capes when we haven’t had any capes yet?
Do butt capes count? :P
is that another term for some sort of skirt a “hooker” wears?
Don’t capes just cause issues strange issue in most games? Like related to how people feel about capes that is.
I think the GW2 engine is probably good for quite a while. Besides, I’d rather they just expand this game, then get a GW3 with a smaller world but somewhat better looking and possible better mechanics.
You think this engine (if you want to call it that…) is “good for quite a while.”?
It was bad before they even finished the original GuildWars 2 game that release and became this. They cannot move forward with growing technology as it currently stands really. Change, grow or die. Two of those are almost always necessary together for anything to happen, one is a certainty for almost anything on some or another time-line. This engine changed and died already.
Yes, it’ll happen. But not anytime soon. We can start talking Guild Wars 3 when the last Elder Dragon is dead. Given that seems to be the overall plotline, we have four more dragons to go. When ‘Bubbles’ is dead, that’s when the next game will shine on the horizon.
Not before that.
Edit: Whether players stick around that long is another topic. . . .
Whether they stick around or not is the prerequisite (or a costant influx of new) for whether any new or additional game gets made in this story world. If they do and in sufficient numbers there is some tiny chance they are stupid enough to keep attempting to move this universe forward. At this point it would be a mistake though.
Then again… these guys are really quite arrogant in how I believe they see their work, their company, and their customers. They may have it 80% done and messed up bad right now just waiting for the right moment to screw us.
I wish they would code a Linux client for GW2. Many people have grown to despise MS and Windows more and more. I think it’s a good time for game developers in general to move to supporting native Linux games as an option.
My only tie to Windows is this game. I’ve had my fingers crossed for a Linux client since day 1
Don’t sit around waiting. That is what I was doing for month and months. Being lazy saying “oh I will wait for this or that to have a linux client…”. I stopped doing that installed a few distro’s until I found one that was more stable with my hardware and started solving my list of problems and needs. I have not touched a MS OS other than at work in 6 months. I am happier every time I sit down at my PC. My fonts are the way I want them, my colors look as I intended. I am lacking nothing that I wanted at this point at all from what I had when using Windows anything.
I found I even liked some of what windows 10 was offering but have now found that I can have almost all of the things I liked in Linux instead, legally for free. You can customize WIN10 pretty good but nothing close to what I have achieved with Linux.
Yes I have GW2 playing in playonlinux with wine. I tried it both ways manually until I could make it work and then with playonlinux. I found both ways valid. I stayed using playonlinux as I am lazy I guess and put my time into learning more about linux in other ways and not with wine currently. Maybe I will go learn more about manually config’n it all later.
Playonlinux works pretty well and pretty easy. I have to tinker it a bit here and there but it runs. No it does not run perfect but it runs within 85% of what I had before with Windows on the same hardware. The hardware I use is pretty dated as well.
-Phenom Deneb quad 955 stock
-HD 7950 radeon GPU
-16 GB RAM
-SSD for all OS and apps
Playonlinux:
Install the latest version and look at a guide if you want to succeed. I don’t like linking stuff so just do the searches its easy info to find with what little actually exists.
right now I am using
-playonlinux
-gallium 9 oss drivers
-wine-staging 1.9.15 (1.9.15 stable works to but I like options in staging mode)
-install d3dx9 component from the configure menu
-install tahoma (1 and I sometimes do 2 as well)
-set your GPU mem size in the display tab of config menu
-I think it helps to have truetype fonts or something like that installed already in your distro for stuff like times new roman and other MS fonts it seems to render better in GW2 once running even with changing nothing, I have no clue why.
-there is more but just check the links for gw2 playonlinux and wine pages for complete info.
MY FPS Is jumpy sometimes but for normal stuff stays around 25-40. I did a TEQ last night with this setup and got no worse performance overall than I did with my Windows install, got gold across the board and full loot without any issue and could easily jump waves and fight without to much issue. I have not really tested WvW or PvP yet but I am going to soon.
I am also going to do experiments with the current ati drivers but I have to do some imaging backups of stuff first as I am not a Linux pro and break stuff all the time. That said I should disclaimer all this by saying;
I work in IT and have degree’s in computer science. I have messed with Linux on and off for over 10 years. I am not a pro at all but feel more satisfied when I am in a Linux distro and that might just be the smug IT biss in me talking. I like to solve problems and find answers I didn’t have before. For me doing this and making it run better is a joy. You might not get the same thing out of it and won’t be please with what I referenced above.
I find valid reasons for both OS’s to exist I am not saying one is better than the other just that I use it in this way and for those reasons. In the end it doesn’t even really matter is MS is a pack of spying biss-tards some agency we don’t even know about is probably collecting 10x’s what the NSA is. I like secrets as much as the next person but I only keep them in one place. Do what you have to but there are options.
So if you don’t want to lose me as a player change your system Arenanet. I almost didn’t come back to the game after last off season. I did, soloqueued to legend, but if you change nothing I will be gone.
This is just unaccetable and ruins every competition. Bring ranked back as soon as possible. If this doesn’t work then your system is kitten and you should change it.
Then leave. Do it quietly and it would be the worst for them if you actually are as self centered as this post makes you seem.
The silent customer that leaves is the worst for any business, but lets be real any issues are fully out in the open now and if not already fixed don’t expect it in the near future because you cry. Your 1st world problems don’t seem to trump theirs.
The $$$ is all that matters at this point. PvP isn’t great, we all know that, but the $$$, man, the $$$.
Name a company that is in business for profit in which “$$$” is not the most important factor even above the human cost? Oh and prove it.
GW 2 is fine.People who play it,on the other hand…
You have 10 people, and each person has its own view on game.
One wants this
Another laugh at him because in his opinion, what he wants is more important
Third one laugh at both of them, because he,as the second one, think what he wants is most important
So,you have people, hating and insulting each other, because everyone thinks what he want, should be priority in game…
Now,some people complain about how HoT maps are designed.Indeed, you have 4 maps, and main thing is meta event.I am sure as hell,i do not want my game time to be based on meta events,as long as i play this game.
Some people think they should add maps with “Hearts” ,and i find that ok,since that’s something they want, but they do not realize they would finish all 4 maps under 2 hours.
Some people ask for S3 story, and that’s ok too, even if they would finish it in one day.
What game needs in my opinion,is something really new.But in order to do that, they(Arena Net) need to hire someone specifically for that.
These people who works atm, props to them, they did great things, but…
In past 5 months, they add 2 type of Black Lion skins, which looks almost same, and what’s even worse, ugly. Not just in my opinion, but in opinion of many.
Soaring
Glittering
Plasma
You have 2 more,Spectral and Merciless.
Outfits they add,i really haven’t seen single person wearing Lyssa’s Regalia,Ironclad Outfit,Nature’s Oath Outfit or Slayer’s Outfit.
True, there’s some people like those outfits, but they are minority. When Lunatic Guard Outfit came out, everyone was using it,because it was really good looking outfit.
New armor sets Bladed and Leystone, wont even talk about those.
Now,as i said, game need something new and refreshing.I am sick of those one oversized shoulder sets, and 10 meters long greatswords.
I really hope and praise to God,for new expansion without new 4 meta events/jumping puzzle based maps.
What i would like to see in next expansion is new weapons,as long with new weapon skills.
Great axe
Crossbow
Spear (as ground weapon)
Scythe
Actual good looking guns and rifles(Now,every gun and riffle looks almost same)
And new looking and cool armors and skins, with possibility to mix with outfits.
I would like to see new dungeons, couple of them actually, but not 3 paths, rather 3 dungeons with x paths each.
And new maps, with some actual happening on them.Underground this time,if possible.
As for events on maps,if there has to be some, please then make it better than killing roots and dragons please.Make some mobs, using actual spells, like those in pvp lobby or something…you can use your imagination, you made game like this, you can think something off.
I hear what you are saying here. It can be tough to find concensus on anything in the human race, there are a lot of us (maybe to many) and we rarely all agree on the same things.
In saying that I think the part you are talking about hiring someone to create unique content is a bit off base and part of the professional worlds problem as a whole right now.
I work in the professional world and the company I work for (very large medical company) does the same thing. They expect to little out of staff we already have and always try to hire in the next best thing. It fails most of the time. What they should do is what this company should do; Expect more out of the talent they already pay.
The companies that succeed the most either do something that is always the same people must have or they are constantly changing. I prefer the latter myself and I think that part of the issue is that not enough changes go on internally at ANET. They don’t need to fire and hire fast they need to set high standards or creativity and testing. Those two things alone could keep this game rolling for years.
Of course they need to add new talent and think in new directions, but if the existing talent is washed up as harsh as this sounds they need to find a new thing in their careers to get excited about at this company or move on and make room for those new ideas in a more organic way. That transition is much less painful and minimizes set backs over talent voids. My job is very stressful because the monster I work for doesn’t often realize this and lets greed get in the way of reason.
Then again what do I know.
By the new patch.
How bout you guys?
What complaints?
The main reason why I quitted FF14 and went over here was because Square Enix did this every patch. Nerfing everything and giving it for almost free (if continuos player) or free (for re-subscribing). I think doing it once is fine.
I haven’t used a single level up item (forgot the name), all levels are done by wandering around and shooting, burning and poisoning foes. Squeenix pushes people into engame, neglecting the joy of character development and then you got a bunch of high-level noobs (in this case newbs/noobs) in endgame.
A video game is like a good cigar. Slowly and enjoyable. Not skipping to the end.
Is the cigar less enjoyable if your nice friend gives it to you and shares with you and you pay nothing?
Well, if you aren’t among the Chosen, you get nothing.
I will not buy HoT. I guess I’m invisible and unworthy of any future consideration.
Doesn’t matter that I’ve bought gem cards worth far more than the cost of that sorry, single demographic, feature sized “expansion”.
Why won’t you buy HoT? Just curious.
Lol because THEY want everything handed to THEM on a silver platter. OP wants everything free after 3 years of having everything free. OP got what they paid for but wants more and more now. :/
OP like many other people on the planet at this point are just looking for the next thing to satisfy their craving for negative emotion, while forgetting to balance anything in their life.
My complaint is that it was not handed out on a purple platter. I demand more purple platters.
As happy as I am about the patch, I can’t help but feel after so much hard work and labor we’ve gone through, it’s now just being handed out to everyone on a silver platter. So much gold, gems, time spent and now it’s being given out for free. Thanks though?
What labor? What hard work? If you consider your time spent playing this game either of those things or some task that MUST be done, you might not be doing what I am doing and that is PLAYING a game.
If you didn’t like the time you already spent why did you keep coming back for more?
No one is here by force so it is confusing that some players see this or rather refer to it with terms generally associated with jobs.
I work hard at work, I play hard in here. You might see that as semantics but it only seems that way. If you are working here and they are not paying you then you are a slave. If you derive enjoyment from it and spend time that is pleasure.
You are welcome to speak for yourself but don’t think for one second you can decide it is work to anyone other than you. Well you and all the other people who see their hobbies as jobs.
Are you thanking them or is it a question? Make up your mind.
Windows 10 is a pos spyware. Stop asking for DX 12 , as that will be exclusive to Win 10. Im not upgrading to win 10 and a lot of people feel the same way. Its time to go with the multiple platform api. Vulcan.
About Windows 10 spying … what kind of kinky illegal stuff do you have on your PC that you are scared for them to find out?
Linus tech also reviewed what was being sent from your PC to microsoft and it was only normal data for discovering and fixing bugs and not spying, but you can have your opinion.About DX12, I know it’s unrealistic to hope for that in this game, but DX11 shouldn’t be that hard to implement into system. It’s not like they have to rewrite code from entire game.
Vulcan API … well that was released like 2 weeks ago. Probbably we can’t expect that in guild wars 2 any time in next 5 years. Would be cool for my R9 390 GPU, but lets be realistic here.I don’t realy care what API they would use in future, as long as it would bring at least some improvement + multithreading.
personal privacy is the basis by which all of our other freedoms are derived. Without personal privacy eventually the freedoms of, movement, speech, and self determination to the extent we currently have will disappear. We will be back in a tyranical state and right back where we were 400 years ago.
Democracy barely works. Freedom in the true form of freedom with responsibility is always hanging on by a thread in our current evolution of society. We have to protect it if it is to survice and allowing big business to compromise this for advertising or any other reason is a dangerous game to play.
I understand that many younger people and some older ones don’t really understand this and think that this:
“if you have nothing to hid what does it matter…”
rhetoric is actually valid but it is not. that is only valid if you don’t value your freedom or the freedom of your children or anyone else that will come after us. the more one limits a persons individual freedom the closer we come to civil war or true revolution. Neither of those are necessary if we can find nonviolent solutions to maintain freedom.
this is a much larger issue than it seems on the surface and outside the scope of this forum. Just think about what you are saying and what is being risked to say it.
thankfully right now you only speak for yourself but in the end if this attitude becomes the mainstream we are all going to be worse off.
I have nothing to hide and if you want to know ask me directly do not do it behind the scenes or in subversive ways.
Yes hello David, I happen to be in said daily party that does this for low level fractals, and chances are you’re referencing us (myself and two friends) by your post.
The vast majority of posters in this thread are right. It’s an easy, albeit occasionally inaccurate way to judge player experience level at a glance and attempt to guarantee that the run will go as quickly and as smoothly as possible.
Does it always work? No. Sometimes we end up being slow anyway, due to people leaving or having the requirement and still being inexperienced. But it can have a large effect on the kind of player that does end up joining our party, and I find we’re generally faster.
Bottom line is: We are not obligated to babysit you, hold your hand, or tell you that it’s going to be okay and that your 2.3k achievement points won’t be an issue. We -could- require you to send us a picture of yourself with a shoe on your head before you joined our party and we could still kick you for not doing it. We’re going to play how we want to play.
Do you actually feel this hostile about this issue in real life? You seem to be almost upset about it and very defensive. the OP never said anything about wanting babysitting or being carried. I would hope you wouldn’t do that either as it does not help train a better player. One learns by doing and sometimes people like you with what you seem to be indicating is a higher skill in this mode of play should do runs to share that knowledge and there by increase the number of players that can help you achieve your goals.
Thankfully you are posting your intent in LFG. That seems reasonable. I disagree with the tone of your statement and agree with the content. I feel the same about the OP.
I guess you can teach or you can do and that is your choice.
Charr is your only choice.
personally I don’t like the way that toon looks. So I would say that there is no choice. You must use Asura.
Dungeons are dead. Deal with it. :/
Variety brings in business in a game like this.
To destroy a mode of play is to invite ruin.
Actually…. i am the original creator of that “old power death shroud necro build” which was first published 3 years ago.
Other people have taken my build and made a pretty guide about it which then sold to Dulfy without my knowledge or consent.
In gw2’s build system there’s only a very limited amount of trait+gear combinations that make sense. If you couple that with the huge player base in this game, it’s rather presumptuous to think you could be the only and first person to come up with a certain build. And what you most definitely can’t do is claim some kind of copyright and sulk when other people publish PvE guides that happen to use a similar trait combo.
Also, you’re clearly referring to spoj, but spoj always promoted dagger over Shroud as the best dps option, so he never had a “power death shroud build” anyway.
he can sulk all he likes. That is his right.
He cannot in any legal sense of the word copyright anything pertaining to the GuildWars 2 Franchise. Someone already owns those rights. No matter how original or unique the intellectual property he is using to come up with this never belonged to him in the first place.
Yes I made that argument and no I don’t care what you think.
I can’t stand these video’s although I do like looking over his builds to see if they can be modified to actually work for how I play. It isn’t the content of the video either it is him specifically. This isn’t an attack as that would serve no purpose. Just that I find the way he films and vocalizes his points to be off putting and gets in the way of his actual build. So I skip the video and just read the build and then think for myself.
I don’t get it, I have a full time job and maxed masteries about 2 months ago, finished new Legendary a month ago. People just seem casual, uneffective and slow.
Seems like this would depend on your job and what you do other than play this game in your free time.
You basically are free to say anything you want of course. It remains to be seen if you are telling the truth however.
Until you prove it these are just words.
http://gw2crafts.net/cooking_karma_light.html
what are you confused about? Be specific or it is hard to help.
this list is what it takes to get to 400. It changes based on AH prices if you do it slowly. this website pulls data to get those lists it is not being hand made per say.
where it says “buy vendor” you go buy that stuff or use what you have stored.
“buy recipes” that should be obvious. click the name of the recipe and it even says where to buy and for how much.
the rest should be obvious. Take a crafting booster and then craft what it tells you to craft in those amounts and check at each 50 points to see if you “critted” out of some of the recipes and save some time and money.
if you need more help than that ask specific questions.
Language is an art though, not a science.
It’s an abstraction of thought where two or more unlinked minds attempt to convey ideas between each other using an indirect medium.
I would disagree here. It is very much a science, though few treat it that way. Language, at it’s core, is the act of conveying information via symbols. One need not start a fire and point, for we’ve reached a group consensus that the rapid oxidation of a material in the exothermic chemical process of combustion can be labelled “fire”.
There is an aspect of precision attached to this, so that we can rely on the verbal or written label to correspond with a concept. Being imprecise introduces the opportunity for misinterpretation, with consequences ranging from nonexistent to disastrous.
The loss of precision, to me, isn’t the problem in and of itself. It’s a symptom of a greater issue, one of cultural laziness – an attitude of “good enough”.
To quote the good Doctor;
“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that “my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.” "
Expand that beyond the borders of the United States, to include most Western cultures. It touches upon everything, from our approach to laws and societal behaviour, to our language and personal behaviour.
Expand beyond? Most Western Cultures?
Sounds like you live in one to even generalize in such a base way… I do as well but would rather have this any day over 3rd world rule, or a nice pleasant war lord to follow.
Most people consider Euro zone western as well not sure if you do.
Outside of that most of the rest of the world lives in crazy madness in law and government.
This is about the use of a word being incorrectly used. Your geographical location is not relevant really to that argument but spin up more accusations if you could please.
Ignorance is an individual issue, countries do not make you ignorant even those that try. Fight hard enough and you will find what information you are looking for. You might go to prison or die for it but what is freedom of thought worth to you?
For game-related useage, I prefer “staves,” and I say “staves”… but when someone looks confused, I then say “You know, staffs?” (Like Danikat above.) But when I think of writing music, and staff paper, I think “staffs” and not “staves.” And considering the employees of a company, I’d go with “multiple corporate staffs” instead of the alternative.
I guess, to me, “staves” relates to the physical staff, as in a weapon, walking stick, or shepherd’s tool.
Interestingly, Dictionary.com has about an even split: 6 for staffs; 5 for staves.
Does make it sound sort of dumb reading it like that. It’s ok though. The world is getting dumber everyday so this seems to fit that mold.
Blizzard usually fix their bugs in less than two weeks after an expansion releases, but even then, those bugs are very minor in comparisson to what we see in HoT.
And the reason for that is that WoW has PTR servers where everything gets smoothed out before launch.
ANet still refuses to have a constant beta type of server, to protect their story or w.e that ends up a disaster anyway.
Not relevant or valid. You cannot expect anyone to do what someone else is doing no matter how much you want it to be so. I despise Blizzard and most corporation but I don’t expect one to do the same as another even if they should.
Or I may be insane which is probable.
What would be nice as it is unrealistic to expect total fixes in less than 1 month is a little more communication about what is being done or will be done in the future from the corporation.
This is actually the one thing that most companies could do better to improve customer satisfaction. Just talk more to the people keeping your business alive. Without us they are nothing. Without consumers what purpose do they even have?
The true dissidents will still rail against logic and progress but those with patience and fortitude will understand those on the working end are just like us… human.
“We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.” – Mike Obrian
What happened to this philosophy? Literally everything in HoT is gated behind a grind.
-Want to start your story? Grind mobs/events for gliders!
-Want to get that hero point up there? Grind some more for a mushroom mastery!
-Want that other hero point? LOL got ya! Grind some more glider mastery for updraft.
-Finally made it up there? It’s a champion on a timer! Better hope someone else nearby has grinded as much as you! This is annoying to begin with, but it gets even worse. Not only do you have to grind these masteries, but it’s not even a reasonable amount of grinding. The XP requirements are astronomical.
I’ve spent 90% of this expansion painfully grinding rather than enjoying the scenery and exploring.
I know some people are defending this system and saying the entire expansion should be challenging, but you are forgetting that casuals are what mainly makes our community.
While I’ll begrudgingly continue grinding, people like my wife will not. She is the perfect example of casual. She gets on, plays around, explores a little bit, and logs off after 2 or 3 hours. She watched me play HoT and quickly decided that it’s not for her. When I asked her what the biggest turn off was, she stated “that looks like way to much work just to explore and enjoy the scenery.”
Take this for what you will, but I just want to know when the old philosophy of “We don’t make grindy games” flew out the window.
semantics can be a real downer can’t they… I neither agree nor disagree with what you are saying. I just think that one persons definition is not always another persons.
some of it seems grindy to me other parts just seemed designed poorly but grind was not the intent.
I deal with this all day long at work. I have a team that all does stuff differently… problem is we are doing tasks that have to follow a certain protocol and best practice of everything just gets worse.
It is a dirty kitten trying to please everyone all the time and in the end if you can chances are you are personally unhappy. I would still gladly take one of their jobs and design this game so you could complain about me as I bet they make a lot more than I do… /soap box crushed.
I bought the Ultimate version for my wife and for me since this has been so far the most enjoyable mmorpg we ve played.
We get to play 2 hours a day to play with 6 to 8 toons each, ascended gear was a bit of a pain for all classes but we picked one and alts would run on exotics, but this 400 hero points thing was the final straw when we read about the amount of points per toon, but also the wvw points we had were no good now.
I’m sure a whole lot of people will enjoy the new content, we just don’t have the time for this type of grind, first reason we bought the game 3 years ago.
or I was not certain what I was going to say sorry… if I remember I will edit this.
See I have zero crashes with GW2. I built an AMD setup with a 270X 4G. I’ve never had a memory crash or crashes during WB battles. So saying that, “It’s GW2” is a cop out. My previous system with 2 Crossfired 5770s and a Phenom II never had crashing issues either. There is something else going on.
same here. I never crash in this game. It lags like hell sometimes but never crash.
there are a lot of factors involved in why. People should use there event viewer more and try and analyze why they are crashing rather than speculate. Check you logs and see what it says then come with that info and let us discuss it and see if we can find specific reasons other than guessing.
I know this has been asked a billion times, all those times people say “SW cf” or “champ trains” or “dungeons”, but the thing is i did all those thing and i barely get 8g profit an hour.
How the heck do people who amass hundreds of gold do it, do they farm 6 hours everyday of the week , is the RNG gods plotting to screw me over??
I’m a man of simple pleasures and limited time, WvW is what i do 90% of the time, and 10% of the time i spend trying to get gear that isn’t complete garbage and painful to look at.
So what am i doing wrong here??, i usually salvage everything using copper fed salvage o matic except rares and exotics, and i sell all my mats.
so 8 gold per hour and you could run half the time you suggest here of 3 hours instead of 6. If you farm 5 days a week in stead of 7, that is 120 gold a week. One month later you would already be up to…480g.
I make almost double that for a SW run. If you get bored alternate with other farms like bosses or trains or maybe a bit of dungeons if you like them.
You literally don’t have any other choice…
-SW
-dungeons
-tp flip
-farming mats for sale
-crafting for sale (this seems like it would be the worst way to me)
-trains/bosses world or other
-buy it
this is how everyone within the game is actually getting “rich”. Like most other scenarios of reality there are generally fewer rich people and most did not get rich working for it.
HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I’m aware that people who bought GW2 during the first quarter will be refunded… and what about the veteran’s – the playerbase who is supporting the game since the very beginning?
Only a character slot isn’t enough…
The refund is because people who bought it recently might have gotten information from the Anet site that misled them. Refunding them isn’t a perk. It’s Anet doing the right thing in regards to something that some had claimed was false advertising. It wasn’t. It was just ambiguous. But it was misunderstood.
Some of the people being refunded bought the game because they thought they had to. This has nothing to do with new players old players. This has to do with Anet doing the right thing.
What they are doing is trying to save face after they got called out on a scheme they tried to pass off. While it wasn’t scam it was border line and they knew what they were doing. To say they did not is to say they are not a corporation staffed by adults with big data to draw metrics from so that accountants and people dealing with monetary concerns for Anet could generate cost models. They did this knowingly then adjusted it when they got called out. They adjusted it ONLY enough to see if they could get a higher satisfaction rating on enough of the demographic to move forward with what they think will be a major success.
As the only real MMO on the market that has a decent player base other than the grand ole one I won’t mention here they will always walk the finest line they can. This is par for the course for a earth based corporation.
I will buy it… in the future when the price has gone to dirt cheap when they don’t realize the profit they are hoping for. Personally I am watching with much entertainment this story unfold between the customers and just another average business trying to milk it for all its worth
Advice to most of you: Learn more patience and wait.
It looks nice but the performance is very bad in some places.
I get over 60fps most of the time – but some areas of the new Lion’s Arch completely cripple my framerate. The Mystic Plaza drops me to 45fps and the Grand Plaza drops me to 30fps. Not sure it’s worth such a massive drop.
And the city doesn’t really feel like a lived-in city anymore – there aren’t many places with ordinary peasant housing. Just a lot of wide open spaces.
seriously? 45fps is playable very very playable. Tons of people don’t get that ever in any area of the game. They also play with success.
It seems like it’s doable, since in Tera you can make child characters. The difference is, they have long animal-like ears. In the Korean version, they can even wear skimpy armor. So it’s not like it’s not allowed.
I could make one with an Asura, but they are ugly.
Aren’t the Elin also supposed to be something like 300 years old? Yes they look young but they aren’t children according to the game.
The biggest problem I see with playable child characters is that you end up with situations where you are killing children and that would have a big impact on GW2’s ratings. Another problem is that you just doubled the amount of work required for every new armor set. Child versus adult isn’t just a simple matter of scaling, at least not if you want to do it well.
Thats the thing in games, they can make it look like a child, then say But oh she’s 300years old just cus we say so,eventhough she clearly doesnt look like it..For me its also a huge turn off though, breaks immersion greatly for me.Besides what the op is asking for is just…no,no on many levels.
What levels? I see that being said but no one that seems to want to expand on that. If you have view lets hear it? Discussions are healthy as long as both sides will actually speak their minds not hide behind vague morality arguments, which are always totally subjective and almost never debates of ethics.
You can make child like characters in other games. Never seemed to be a problem in the ones I have played. Think the main reason you wouldn’t get it here is because it’s extra work that’s probably not worthwhile. And then the complaints roll in.
I think that’s an important factor too.
You have to ask yourself : “Even if the regulations weren’t there, is it worth A-net’s resources adding these options in-game post-launch?”
As I already mentioned, I think the biggest problem (outside ethics and resources) would be that it wouldn’t “fit” the game. The story of GW2 is developing your character, watching him/her progress through the ranks to become a strong, leading character to take on some of the biggest threats in Tyria.
The story would be very different if you were a child; even if a child could succeed against such opposition, how would other important characters respond and interact with you? Could they really expect a child to make the right decisions?
Just playing the devils advocate here for the sake of a two sided discussion…
This is a fantasy world, anything within the realm of imagination is expected. That allows for almost anything. Not all world views or philosophies are the same as yours, it does not make yours less valid or theirs less valid.
I was aware of the world and death and what that meant by about 5 years old. My parents made sure of that. They awakened me as early as they possibly could so that I would be a free thinking and open minded person. They did the right thing even though I am sure many would not agree. It is my opinion that counts here and even then I would be willing to consider someones other than my own to see if there is a better way of seeing it.
I am a pacifist in real life yet I can kill in a game. It is in complete opposition. To me opposites and why they attract are the basis of the race I love, the human race.
For all of you talking about “morality” get over yourselves.
Your morality is not the only view on our planet. While I agree that they are not needed in game, children playable characters, don’t act like we live in some ethical world out here where we don’t send children to die.
Review world history both distant past recent past and our present and you will find that this is actually the reality we all live in.
I think some of you should see a real third world war zone then comment. I don’t agree with sending kids to war but it happens everyday.
Be careful evoking “morality” wars have been fought and millions dead over that word in this earth we live in. While in this game guild wars 2 it is all about war for the most part. Games emulate life.
I still don’t want to see it in game but I would ask that some of you teach your children why not to send kids to die not just rail against it to them as “BAD”. Educate and maybe it all ends one day.

I have 5k matches under my belt…
My main suggestion for improving Practice mode is blocking access to it from people with 5k match experience.
If the goal is to improve its role as “place where newbies can learn the basics of PvP”, it doesn’t matter what the rewards are as long as you let Legendary Champions come in and farm said newbies.
Seems like if only “noobs” enter and no veterans are there to help or force learning then no one will learn or rather learning would be a snails pace.
Here is a point to consider…
your opinion is not the only valid one.
Most of the time in chat when you see people calling others bad it IS meant as an insult or a slight. If you meant it as encouragement or constructive commenting you should go about it in a more positive way that fosters a learning environment if one is meant to learn not to be “bad”.
I wish people would move into the 21st century and stop getting so offended over “swear” words. And it’s really a minority of people that are offended but that’s still far too many.
Maybe they could while they are moving here learn how not to be such intolerant kittens…
Just because you want something doesn’t mean you get it. If you don;t like someones creed, color, religion, way of life, culture etc you have that right. You do not have the right to disparage them or other groups simply because you are exercising freedom.
Freedom is only free if people are responsible inside of the group social reality.
What one does in private is not of concern.
If you act intolerant in life expect to be treated like the worst among us.
I learned these lessons not always acting as I should as a boy and hardship came. Then I learned to deal with others in a way that we have to if we are ever to stop fighting and acting like animals.
To those that can’t deal with it learn and that is both sides.
Most people need thicker skin while also at the same time those that cause that need should smile more
Human:
Female: Hootie McBoob
Male: Tony DanzaI don’t think you can use Hootie McBoob.
I named my necro “I Touched Your Mom” and anet made me change it.
-Chris
That name clearly violates their policy. It was going to be a forced change the second you logged in.
While I have no issue with you using that name there are a lot of players that let their children play (I do have issue with that depending on their age but do parents even bother checking what their kids do online anymore?) and they don’t really need to see that do they?
Personally I am against all naming that is not actually a proper name. Using names like
“I am sawdust”
“The best Char”
“not a name in anyway”
sort of rob this game of what little immersion it has.
is keeping me from enjoying the game…
This is brutal. EVERYTHING is taken. I’m one of those rare breeds who, admittedly, is rather OCD about charcter creation. I’ll spend hours getting my appearance just right, but even more important to me is my character’s name.
If I’m not in love with my character’s name, I get such a bad taste in my mouth when I go to level, and I inevitably become severely disheartened and lose interest. That toon will never see 80. :[
When I find a name I love, on the other hand, it’s pretty much guaranteed that I’ll steamroll the game all the way to max level and keep right on going. Totally immersed and fulfilled by every minute of the experience.
I can’t be the only person that feels this way. It just sucks. :[
It does suck not getting the name you want.
This is a common problem with all MMO"s I have ever played if they are older than 1 year or so depending on popularity.
In the long run I stopped worrying so much about it and just found new names I liked and used those. I have even put pieces of names on a wall and thrown darts before to select new character names.
proxy won’t make it better it will in almost all cases make it worse.
You say IMHO but nothing about the way this is written is humble.
I disagree with these suggestions and would rather not see the teams waste time developing this.
There is so much wrong with this game right now and so many bugs that they need to seriously think about actually getting it back to a better state before anything else… of course ANET doesn’t think that way and apparently you think like they do so I guess these will probably end up in game over you know, actually fixes.
I think the title to this thread should be changed to:
“Narcissist necro viable for solo ranked?”
My statement here adds about as much value as anyone’s here. what was the point of this thread anyway?
if there is a claim why not test the claim in reality before chest pumping it one way or the other.
get an arena going and get together and prove or disprove what you are saying on both sides. Short of that this is just hot dead air.
Have a necrotic day:)
People don’t like hearing this but you are wrong.
You are not wrong because you have your own opinion you are wrong because you think it is also everyone’s.
Give it a rest.
There are people including myself that have gotten hardly any as drops since the launch of this game.
I have gotten exactly 1 yes that is right 1.
I have played this game since it was in beta.
RNG was favoring you now it is just acting like it does for everyone else mostly. Deal with it.
Your rage is irrelevant. Your friends are just as small a subset of data as my data is yet what your is valid?
I hardly get crap for drops in this game and if that is the reason you play this game it has been like this from day one. The RNG is just a poor excuse of a lazy company, like most of their content.
You can do as you please. It IS your time and money not ours.
I like to learn a little about the standard of min/max in the games I play. It by no means forces me into anything and I just play with little stress as this is a way for me to be entertained no aggravated.
Play for yourself it is the very reason you are here is it not?
There was no reason to be insulting to get your opinion out and yes that is all it is.
You have no more “proof” of any of this than he does. There are just as many that say the opposite and anet will not be releasing the real story. It is there business and they must feel that information like that needs to stay privileged.
I would ask that you provide some evidence that he is wrong at least or maybe lay off the insulting behavior and just speak your mind. If that is all that is in there then maybe just don’t say anything.
The low blow is your reaction to someones opinion whether they are right or wrong in your mind.
As it stands it sure looks like based on actually logging in and looking at these populations like they manually set the status at their end period. That means that we have no way of knowing anything.
